  • Hello all. They say it takes 21 days to change a habit. I am going to take that a step further. Even though I am not Catholic, I am going to use this season to try and cleanse myself of 2 of my bigger issues. I am going to give up candy and soda for Lent. In hopes, of course, that I won't pick them up again. And still take steps to clean up other unhealthy habits.

Anyone else want in? Just post here. Check in for support, brainstorming, butt kicking, compulsive use of emoticons (once I have my list again ), and random neural firings!!

Good luck to all on their journey to good health!
  • Yes, I will join you. My Catholic friend is giving up meat. I am giving up bread & sweets (I guess I can throw diet sodas in there, too-----only water for me!).
  • Glad to have you. Anyone else is welcome any time Here's to day two. I want to stick with this and make permanent healthy changes. Woo hoo.
  • I'll be giving up pizza and pepsi! I've been doing fairly well losing weight recently, and the main food culprit for preventing a faster loss has been my pizza habit (once a week).

No more until after Easter! Will be interesting to see if my weight loss starts to move more quickly.

Also I guess I'll have to specify that instead of pizza, I will opt for a healthier alternative, not a plate of fettuccine alfredo.
  • I like the clarification! I too have a tendency to substitute one unhealthy food for another! Good luck.
  • Working partial 3rd shifts tonight and tomorrow night. This is when my challenge becomes...challenging. I really want sugar right now. My mind starts thinking of non candy sugar group food porn which would satisfy. Guess God really does watch out for little children and thee foolish. We had a winter storm, and I didn't have time to stop and get anything, since everyone forgot how to drive in snow!!!

How's everyone doing on their challenges?
  • Hello all. Well, avoided my target foods again tonight. Did have some food porn. Made me feel yucky, and threw a bunch of it out. Since I seem to be in the 3rd shift pick up/lack of sleep thing for the long haul, any suggestions on foods that help energize but don't leave feelings of uck???

Hope your challenges are going well
  • Good morning all. How is the Lent challenge going? I have been doing well overall. Soda is turning out to be the easiest. Though I was really craving some while out for brunch yesterday. Candy . . . I have not had any, but have done a little substituting. Will keep plugging away at the healthy lifestyle!

    Have a good day all
  • Keep it up guys!
  • FORTY DAYS!!! lol
  • I'm a bit late but have decided today to give up chocolate (all forms- white, dark, milk, chocolate coated, things with chocolate chips in and hot chocolate!) for lent. Chocolate is my big downfall atm and leads to binges in the evenings so there we go
  • Welcome. Doesn't matter when you start, as long as you get going in the right direction.

I am actually going to add a few things to my challenge. I realized I don't want to take baby steps this time around, so am going to throw in a few more healthy steps, and (sorry Nike) JUST DO IT!

Keep up the good work all.
  • OK. So, as of this moment, now, today - these are the things I am adding in to my Lent challenge, to establish healthier habits:

    1) daily exercise. OK. I am a slacker
    2) Get daily serving of fruit/veg
    3) No deep fried or fast foods

Hope everyone else is doing ok. No, I hope you are doing GREAT Moment by moment, day by day, create the healthy happier you!

  • I've given up red meat this lent!

    Good luck everyone.
  • So. How is everyone doing on their challenges? I am doing surprisingly well, though 30 some days to go. I find my taste buds are already resetting, and I want things less sweet. And smaller portions as well. As Martha says, it's a good thing!

Good luck all, and keep up the effort
