  • Annie
I hear you on the Christmas stuff. I've told my aunt I'm buying for the 8 year old and that's it this year. My sis in Dallas want's an Arkansas Razorback sweatshirt. They're expensive at 32 dollars a piece. Told her that they'd get kicked out of Dallas if she wore it.
Christmas stresses me out every year.
Good luck with Hella B's hair cut.

    Laura
I have a neti pot. Think I'll use it tonight. I've been outside raking leaves. I need to do like Michelle and wear a mask.
  • Hi chicks,

Well the good - cousins came over tonight for steak fajitas and we had a really nice evening together, I found DH's birth registration so now he can go on Monday and get his drivers license changed. The bad - still haven't found my Ipod, I can't seem to get my ID at work stable enough to change the password so I can get in and Napster (my music) got sold to Rhapsody and my 23 remaining song credits somehow disappeared into the fog. The ugly - had a monsterous blow out fight with DH last night - I think we both have been a little "tense" shall we say. But all is well. Also on the ugly is we broke down an bought a lamp harp so we could have a working light upstairs. It's the finest quality China-made harp that Walmart sells so DH had to do alot of shoving. At one point he got the shade on and it was rather crooked, sort of Charlie Brown Christmas Tree looking. Lord knows what else he did but it's straight now and didn't keel over when I turned the light on. Tomorrow we are going to my cousin's town to see the (don't blink) 4 car welcome Santa to Cable Wisconsin parade. He said they really stretch the cars out far to make the parade seem longer. I saw on the website that the townspeople are invited to dress up and march along so I proudly showed them my Polar Bear hat (they tried not to laugh) and I said I'd put a poinsettia on it and if I could find my battery powered set of 10 colored twinkle lights I'd add that too and march right along the "parade floats". Things are different here, I tell yah. Last week DH and I went out for dinner on Friday night in our town and I asked him to drive the 2 streets of downtown so I could see what stores they had. Little did we know the streets were lined with people waiting for the Santa parade. I couldn't help it, we were driving slow and parade like down the people lined street and I just had to start giving them the "queen's wave" with my mittened hand. Several people actually waved back. If I had been brave (or foolish) I could have popped out of the sun roof and really given them a wave. I think we finally got the place clean enough where we can bring one box at a time in to sort through, minimize the mess and make it easier on both of us. I'm sure DH was wondering (as I sometimes did) where was the nap time we thought was part of retirement because we sure weren't getting any

I'm glad you all are on the same page as me with the Christmas gifts. We went to family gift certificate swaps which I thought was just dumb. Now I simply just don't have the money nor do I have the places to shop that I once did. I asked my Mom if I could have the paraffin wax spa that I bought her 6 years ago that she never cracked open. Said it could be my gift and I'd be happy to have it since my other one just died after only 1 use. I like your suggestion of just a nice meal and family gathering. Or a 10 dollar dirty Santa gift exchange game for the laughs.

Annie - I am so scared for you attempting to trim Hella's butt hairs. OMG - talk about asking for a beating I hope that goes well. I guess a muzzle is out of the question. Sounds like this is best done under sedation like when they clean their teeth. Lil Monkey was 3 pounds when born? wow - that is unreal. I'm glad that despite a tough beginning he is gaining ground and doing so well. How cool that he knows your voice and equally cool that DD's BF DD is looking for a Nannie to love her too - I think she picked the right one. I hope your heart stays full of love and goodness - cuz that's how it should be

Laura - that's an interesting point about the gift giving and denying the truth. I think there's alot of truth in that statement. WoW. I had tried to make similar suggestions to my extended family about switching up the gifts but they didn't take the hint either so you aren't alone. I'm glad you got to see your former manager again - hopefully her enjoying herself gives you something to look forward to yourself one day. How was that book The Stupidest Angel? That was a great idea to make Angel cookies as your contribution to the get together. And a chance to use those cutters. Ever go through the stack and find you have one particularly nice one for a holiday that just passed and you missed your chance I bought a bunch of mini cutters to try and recreate those flower arrangements made out of fruit. Good idea but I think up here they would not trust little tulip shaped watermelon cutouts on a stick

Ceejay - how long did it take you to get the hang of the neti pot? I bought one last year in desperation from a southern sinus season but never actually used it. I wonder why we never remember to wear the mask when we are working outside - only after we are in the house suffering afterwards. When you say weather system is there more cold coming into the area? I guess they lucked out in Memphis last week - it snowed but didn't stick. Coming kind of early this year.

Shad - I'm sorry to hear you are fighting the rolling high seas on your own wood floor. Does sound like some ear related thing. Hope you are feeling better after a day of resting up. That vertigo thing is the pits. Haven't seen you post yet so hoping it's because you are busy taking care of yourself.

Michelle - ouch on the sore body parts. Hope the pain subsides quickly and the procedure starts doing what it intended. That's nice of DMIL to offer to help with the wrappings and glad you aren't shy about accepting some help. Hope both you and DH are on the mend - busy time to be feeling poorly. Do you sometimes have issues with your back with the icy weather? I had a weak spot on a nerve - would always seem to slide and pop that stinker - to the point I almost got stiff legged on ice trying to be extra careful - was wondering if you had that too - or do you just have sturdy ice pick boots like Laura?

Mel - glad to hear Mrs. Claus is stoked up with lots of goodies to treat the kindly woman who oversees all her little charges in the building Did you get the tree finished? I imagine this gets to be a busy time for you - not like you ever get a down time - seems the holidays get people more worked up than ever, especially if they get sort of abandoned by their family. I'm hoping you can shut the lights off, lock the door and enjoy some soft Christmas music while enjoying the tree lights all by yourself. Or maybe with your number 1 elf - Miss Jen. We don't have much snow to spare but if it will make you feel more festive, I will box some up for you and fast ship it. However, "fast" up north takes a bit of a different kind of connotation - you might find yourself with good wishes and a soggy brown square - but the intent was heartfelt - yah hey dere -

I do admit. I don't want to think about Christmas just around the corner. Too much wizzing through my brain the last 2 months - it's screaming for some down time. Given shipping here - I'd better do some quick thinking or it will be gift cards from me too and Mom never really gets a chance to spend them anywhere

Also it is VERY late -almost 1:30am and I keep promising myself each night I will get to bed by 11 - the time just flies here. Goodnight ladies...
  • Quick check in this morning..got lots to do..

OMG Happy...you should be writing a book about all this move, job, boxes of mixed parts, cousins, family...I didn't really want to laugh but had to while reading your post.

Laura and Ceejay...yes Christmas is just stressful. End of story..

Hella B's haircut went extremely well...Curtis held her down and I clipped away..unfortunately could only do half of her body as the blanket was in the way..so bottom half down...needless to say she looks very similar to a lion...hahahahaha.

Hello to all you lovely worldlies out there..A big get well for Shaddie!!

  • I checked the weather map a few minutes ago. And the system I'm talking about has snow in it. Not that it means snow for us in Arkansas. The temperature here is 47 this morning. We have had too much rain and flooding is in the back of my mind.

    Happy
I found the neti pot a bit awkward. The ent higly recomends it. Think I was using it at the wrong part of the day. Glad you got to enjoy time with your cousin. I had chicken fajita's last night.

    Mel
What a cute graffic! I love Charlie Brown. Tell the office workers that Santa Claus is coming soon and they will be on the naughty list if they are not careful.

    Annie
Good job on cutting Hella B's hair. At least you had some good help.

    Laura
How did the book club meeting go? Did your angel cookies make a big hit?
    ____
Told my aunt that I would not be spending the night when I talked to her last night. Swept the driveway and raked half the yard. I wanted to be outside. Also did 45 minutes of Yoga.
  • Sorry - didn't post yesterday but I was feeling better. Just trying to catch up with an old friend and also having a down day.
The dizziness passed as it does. Not much idea what may have caused that however looking back, it was a very bad food day on Thursday and I suspect that and a lack of fluid may have been a big influence on things. Anyway all better now and running around madly trying to get a few things accomplished today since it is back to work tomorrow. Before it gets too warm today, I want to put some straw mulch on the rose garden and feed it with fertiliser or that should actually be the other way around, feed and then mulch. Get rid of the new crop of weeds in there too might be an idea.

Annie - I so agree about the commercialism of Christmas. We as a family gave up buying for anyone except the immediate descendants a long time ago. We used to get together with a barbeque breakfast, but that's even gone down the tubes somewhat since we are now so scattered across the land. My friend Chris has a family thing going and there is a lot of them. They put the names in a hat and draw out a name each. Then you buy the gift for that person and it can't cost more than $50 or $75. Everyone gets at least one present and they enjoy their day together.

Happy - I wondered when the explosion would come. It had to happen. Apart from divorce, moving house is the most stressful thing people can do. All that aggro has to have an outlet somewhere. Lets hope it has paved the way for an easier ride into the future. Hope you have sorted the cheque by now. Strange thing having to sign on to get it. Maybe they are hoping you forgot your password and will never be able to claim it.

Ceejay - yoga should bring in a bit of peace and calm to your life. Hope you enjoy the weight watchers.

Laura - families are strange things with moving dynamics. I agree that you should probably just suggest you each buy yourself something. Gift cards can be so anonymous I find. Better than getting 15 toasters but not much.

Mel - You had to buy the kids return ticket. What were they thinking? Scratch that, who WAS thinking. Maybe the mother just wants the child support money without supporting the child??

Okay - gotta run. Washing machine just finished. The hose is doing well in the garden, got to sweep the floors - because the damn cat has been there again shedding more fur and then it will be time for gym, garden centre for potting mix and a couple of big pots, then a round of trying to fertilise and revitalise the pot plants before the sun decides to fry everything.

  • MORNING ALL

SILENCE IS GOLDEN THIS WEEKEND SO FAR.
I DID EVERYTHING I WANTED TO DO AND THEN SOME.
I EVEN HAD TIME TO GET INTO THE KITCHEN AND REARRANGE ALL THE TJ STUFF IN THE CUPBOARD BY DATES.
STILL WATCHING MOVIES AND JUST HANGING AROUND THE APARTMENT.
    HAPPY SUNDAY/MONDAY

SHAD.....IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR.
SENDING A HUG YOUR WAY AND SOME LOVE
GLAD YOU HAD TIME TO SPEND WITH A FRIEND AND CATCH UP.
HOPE YOU'RE FEELING BETTER ALL AROUND TODAY.
NOT SURE IF YOLU READ THE POST BEFORE THE LAST ONE BUT.....
WE CAN PUT OFF THE CALL TILL YOU COME HOME AND/OR THE JOB IS OVER WITH.
THEN WE CAN BIOTCH ABOUT ALL THAT WAS NUTSO OVER THE HOLIDAYS AND THE JOBS!!
IT'S YOUR CHOICE. ALL IS WELL OVER HERE.
AS FOR THE KIDS....RICHIE PAYS ONE WAY AND THE EX PAYS THE OTHER.
SINCE THE KIDS WANTED TO COME SHE SAID SHE'D PAY FOR THE RETURN FLIGHT
BEING THE GRANDFATHER WAS DRIVING THEM UP.
NOW SHE HAS CHANGED HER MIND AT THE LAST MINUTE AND JEN WAS LUCKY TO EVEN FIND 2 SEATS TOGETHER AT THIS LATE DATE. BUT IT'S DONE NOW.
HOPE YOUR WEEK WILL BE A GOOD ONe.
  • Good Morning/evening all...

Glad to see you resurface in better condition SHADDIE....That is about the only thing I don't like about pets, as much as I love them, their hair in/on everything just annoys this OCD cleaner. lol

MELLIE....sounds like you are having a peaceful weekend...good for you. Never guess what...I just found two more tubs of VHS tapes...it will be a while before they ship as I have too much on the agenda today.

Hey to all the rest of you worldlies....

Making homemade chili, cornbread, loaf of bread in the breadmaker and trying to decide on a dessert. Taking it all to my baby boys for linner...(lunch/dinner) 3ish...his GF works till 2pm. It is about an hour drive but will be well worth it. Taking Curtis's truck and packing it full of BBs boxes of stuff. Yeah!

Spent the afternoon with sissy and the baby yesterday...got to change his poopie diaper...haha, but it was ok. Changed his little bitty clothes, wrapped him up in his swaddle and loved and kissed on him for all of us worldlies....he is so sweet...

Hope everyone has a marvelous, energetic, good feeling, rockin' day!!!!!

    Loves and hugs
  • Annie
Love to hear the stories about baby Jake. So glad he's home and doing well.

    Shad
Glad you are feeling better this morning also.

    Mel
Good for you in arranging your food from TJ's by dates. I learned the hard way on that a few weeks back about keeping the dates rotated.

    -------

I came back home yesterday and glad I did. It's raining this morning but so far a light continuous rain. And from the looks of the radar will do so all day.
Had a good time at eating with my uncles. I did chose wisely and had one plate of portioned food.
Bought a couple of sweat shirts at Belks yesterday. I want some fur lined boots for this winter.
I have the winter blah's. I can't get in the mood to do anything. I asked my neighbor to come clean house this week. I at least need to pick things up today.
  • Good morning from the Wisconsin Northwoods,

Wish I had a camera to snap a shot outside the windows. Maybe I will ask Santa for one. It's so pretty out here and I never thought I'd say that about the S word. Last night it started snowing softly as we were headed up to the cousins' town for the Santa parade. It started snowing more heavy as we headed north. When we got to town there was at least 2 inches on the ground and it was coming down just like a movie. Unlike the heavy wet stuff I am used to, it's dry up here so we get "powder" - the kind you can clean with a broom. I was bundled up in my down coat and polar bear hat and mittens and was warm except for the fact that I have no boots yet. It seems that my feet have grown since I last needed boots and all my old ones are either too tight or rub against my foot and hurt. I ordered a nice pair from Lands End but took the advice of the reviews who said they run big and ordered one size down like they recommended. Big mistake. My toe hits the front of the boot so I'll have to exchange and reorder. I wish they'd make boots in half sizes so they fit better. I also bought a pair of work boots/army boot style Timberlands that are somewhere in the garage. I might try nosing through some boxes today after I get a pot of soup on - I forgot I went shopping on Wednesday and bought some fresh meat which is probably spoiled by now - can't afford to be doing that

Picked up my cousin's last night and we headed into town for the parade. It was just like a picture - the town decorated about 10 light posts with lighted decorations, it was snowing just perfectly and we all waited in anticipation for the parade to start. It was just like they said - about 5 cars going really slowly, paced far apart with tree branches and Christmas lights. One car had a trailer with a lighted manger scene on it. And the last car and highlight was the town's one firetruck all lit up with Santa on it. It was really cute and homey! So much nicer than than the de-personalization that you get in the city. Everyone clapped as cheered as each car went by. Then we went to a local bar for yum yum pizza - yay to be back in the land of good pizza again DH and Cousin S played a couple of games of billiards and we cheered them on. We then went to one more bar (because bar hopping is apparently what you do in the Northwoods on the weekend). I played video games with my cousin's son and we wrapped it up just in time for me to get to Walgreen's 10 minutes before they closed so I could get some Coca Cola that was on sale. Came home and we got about 4 inches of fluffy white stuff all over. DH shovelled a bit and is finishing up with the plowing today. Because this is so light, it looks like frosting on all the pine trees looking out of every window in this house. Like I said, I wish I could take a picture but I know it would not begin to capture the beauty. Our lawn is criss-crossed with animal tracks - mostly deer, but everyone wants their turn at the corn. We put up a suet cake but the birds, while many here, don't seem to want to eat it which confuses us. DH tossed the turkey and a chicken carcass out in the back of the property and said those have been hauled off. I am not quite to my cousin's level of tossing all food scraps outside. Their fox even eats left over spaghetti!

DH and I decided to take a break this weekend from boxes and cleaning which was nice. I am still going to make some soup, got some laundry to do and I did my big time house clean before my cousin's came over Friday night so I am caught up. Want to do my Christmas cards this weekend which means today and I am kind of at a standstill on what Christmas gifts to buy - few as they will be. I'm thinking I might try the local shops and get something Northwoods for my family instead of the usual standby - Kohls (sorry Michelle ) Better get a hustling as it's already December 4th. DH really wants to put Christmas lights up - for the first time in about 30 years so I'm thinking I should get out there and find them.

Ceejay - I see by the weather they are talking about flooding rains out your way - hopefully you are more north than the stalled weather system. Get those rain boots ready! Will this mean more of a hassle at work? Good for you for chosing well with the food at the uncle's. Keep up the good work.

Annie - I'm glad that between you and Curtis you were able to work on Hella without your arms looking like a collander today Love the part about changing the baby UNTIL you get to the diaper part. Ick, yuck poo :P Is he getting used to being held all the time or will he lay down in his crib and sleep nicely? I will never forget one girl at work - very well endowed - who took a crying baby in her arms and it instantly quieted down. She said babies liked her because it was like laying on a warm waterbed (her jugs) Guess there is some truth to being warm and cuddled! Hope DS likes his dinner - I'm sure he will appreciate it.

Mel - loved today's choice of graphic. Did Mother Hubbard get her cupboards in order? Good idea on using up the food - now come help me, will you? So are you planning festivities for the seniors or are they are their own? Free Christmas movies and popcorn all the month of December - oh wait, if they are like my Mom - scratch the popcorn. Hope you have a quiet day with the Hallmark channel.

Shad - glad you are feeling better today - boy you sure have been a busy one! I keep forgetting while we are slowing down in the cold here, you are ramping up things as the warmth approaches. Can you send me over a bag of potting mix? I did move one indoor plant from down south that survived and it sure could use a bag of some new soil but not much call for garden stuff up this way this time of year. All the store space has been taken up with cold weather gear or Christmas stuff. Can't even get some from outside as that is hard frozen chunks I guess this is your last week of work before vacation? Gearing up to finish everything or just winding down as you were working part time days as it slowed? Be careful with the food - the fluids sound like a reasonable explaination for the dizziness, don't want to be flying with excess fluids or you're really have a problem.

Hello to the rest of the Worldlies - hope you are enjoying your weekend. I think it's high time I got off the computer and got a little more productive. Later chicks
  • Morning all
Another day, another dollar and now only 9 days to go before the NZ trip. Yeehaa. Guess I need to find something for friends and family to take over.

Mel - yeah, got the message - thought I had put some words to that effect as well but maybe not. Over here you just book two tickets and then decide where you want to sit (about a couple of weeks out). Anyway, I am glad Jen found something to take them back home.

Annie - dinner sounds so nice. Guess I will have to put an order in for when I come over - let me think about that for a month or two. It's good to see you so happy.

Ceejay - well I remember the winter blahs - used to get them in NZ with incessant grey days and cold. Here I love the winter and get brassed off with the summer. One of these days I need to buy a house in NZ for the summer and come back to Aus for the winter. Oh yeah right and I should also win the lotto.

Happy - wish you had a camera too. Can you not borrow (bludgeon or steal) one of the DH's for the purpose. You describe it so nicely. Sounds like you are having fun in the North. Suggest you don't eat too much of that pizza. Much as I love it, it isn't all that good for your hips!!! You bar runner you. Here we call those 'pub crawls' Used to be a sport for the younguns. How many pubs can you get to, have a drink in, and move on in one night. How many before you can no longer stand and have to crawl.

Okay - better get on and see where I was up to with the Master Data manual. I'd like to finish it this week. Project manager came round to ask how many days I would need in January to bring my doco up to date. I just looked at him and asked him what he thought I had been doing since we finished at Moolarben. Then we had to put our current position on to the progress spreadsheet, PM shot up to around 60% ready - mainly because all my doco is at 90%. Never take it to 100%. There is always something which can be done to improve it.

    See ya
  • Happy
I don't like the snow but if I didn't have to maneuver in it myself it might be different. I'm sure the scenes are most beautiful. would be a great Christmas card. It's rained all day and most of last night. I haven't set foot outside the house.

    Shad
I agree--never take anything to 100%. My boss will alway's want to change something.

    ------
Still have the blah'salmost feel emotional at times and this is not good for one who is an emotional eater.

Glad that there were only 2 alarms this week end.

    ------
The rain is still coming down. And from the looks of the weather map their is snow coming in on either Tuesday or Wednesday. I hope it's Wednesday so I can stay inside on Thursday.
Cleaned and put the office back in it's original furniture position last night and will pick up the living room tonight. I want to put out a few Christmas decorations.
I don't have as much energy as I once did. And it's still another 2 weeks before my next b12 injection. I may increase my b12 vitamin to 1000mcg to see if this will help.
  • Morning all.

Shad - Glad you're feeling better. Counting down the days to your holiday - I would be too! Right now I'm counting down to the days of my boss's holiday, haha. Tomorrow is her last day in the office, and then she'll be gone for the next week and a half. Whoo!

Happy - Your weekend sounded nice - glad you and DH "cleared the air" so to speak and gave yourselves the weekend off. The snow sounds gorgeous - and dealing with nice light powdery snow sounds beter than the heavy wet stuff. No camera!?!? I'm shocked! Definitely something to put on the top of your list!

Mel - Glad your weekend was uneventful. Too bad you guys had to end up paying for the return flight, but the way I see it, it might turn out to be one of those situations where you'd pay anything to get them gone after two weeks (or whatever the duration of their stay), LOL. Love, love, love the graphics, espec. Snoopy & Woodstock!!!

Ceejay - Hope you're not flooded too much down there. Good job on the portion control and the yoga.

Annie - Glad the haircut went well and there were no casualties. How was linner w/ BB? More vhs? Wow. BF and I have never been ones to buy movies, so we have very little of that sitting around.

    Hi Michelle!

Let's see. My weekend. Friday night I made the cookie dough. Saturday I went to a Zumba class, then rolled, cut and baked the sugar cookies. Eh. Not my favorite cookies, and let's just say there are many things I'm better at baking, lol. They were edible, and I sprinkled them w/ red and green sugar.

I walked doggy, then ran some errands (including buy the ornament for the exchange). Book club and the ornament exchange was fun. I bought my ornament at Hobby Lobby and they were 50% off. Selection was alright - they already showed a lot of empty space in the ornament aisle, and it was only December 3rd! Anyway, I spent a while choosing, but I ended up getting a cute toad on a toadstool and that went over welll. He kind of grew on me and I wished they had two of them so I could buy one for myself, but they only had the one... I also bought a little gingerbread man for myself. Anyways, the exchange went well and we've decided to do it again next year.

Sunday was lazy, though I got in another longish dog walk. I read the paper, drank tea, did some sewing, and I watched most of one Hallmark movie, followed by most of "The Hangover" on TBS. Of course, there was a lot of dubbing of the f word, but it was rather entertaining (and quite a contrast to the Hallmark movie, LOL).

Food got a bit off the rails Saturday night and Sunday, but the scale stayed the same, so that was nice. Back to faithful tracking today.

Speaking of food, I need to do some grocery & other shopping tonight, so no exercise class. I have six classes to take and four weeks left to take them, so no biggie.

Okay, back to it. Need to get my performance (self-) appraisal finished and submitted (we now have software to enter it into instead of the MS Word forms.) I also have a 360 review to do for a colleague. Aaargh.
