quitting smoking AND losing weight forum

Could anyone tell me if there is a group for members trying to quit smoking while also trying to lose weight?

Me!! Smoke free since Monday. I'm using the patch for now. I am so glad there are others who are quitting and trying to lose weight.

My friends tell me to pick one or the other...but I'm an overachiever :)

I've been considering quitting smoking for a few days now, though I don't want it to interfere with my weight loss.. I might just go crazy if I have to cut back on food AND smokes, lol. I'm not aware of a group dedicated to it, but I'd like to know if there is.

I don't think there's a group, but we can start one! :D

I'm interested in joining such a group. I quit a little over two months ago, and totally fell off the diet wagon. Working on getting rid of the 15 pounds I packed on after quitting.

I'm back on plan with my food/exercise this week. I just keep reminding my self how much better my workouts are as a non-smoker.

I just re-quit about a month ago, at the same time that I started my period and started calorie counting again. Definitely had a few bad days, but got through it. Drank TONS of water at the time. Let's keep each other strong!!

I'm on the patch and my cravings still suck! They aren't as bad as quitting cold turkey (which was pure h.e.l.l. for me) but it still sucks.

Once I quit for 5 months then started back up again. Oh how I wish I would have kept that up.

I found that between smoking and being out of shape I can't do cardio as much. I started out with 30 mins and work my way up in 5 min increments. Lizzybeth81 is right, and I know it'll get better with time :)

Let's keep up the good work and keep moving forward! :carrot:

I too have considered quitting smoking, but there is still a part of me that is afraid that I will replace it with snacking. Any suggestions out there?

Hey wagfam! I'm in the Twin Cities area too

For me, a hard candy (in moderation), gum, chewing on a straw, lots of water, vitamin C (some OJ or vitamins), deep breathing, telling yourself that your craves actually only last up to 5 mins, stress balls, venting to a friend or loved one, etc all really help me.

Take a survey and get good information on quitting smoking and not gaining weight! I did and am very happy. Google; quit smoking and lose weight. Lots of good information on how to avoid the pitfalls after you quit, like bloating, weight gain, constipation, etc.
