Wonderful Wednesday Aka: Humpday
:comp: GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
They say we will get up to 108 this day and I don't doubt it a bit for it is already :flame: here. I have my chores done and my shower in am not planning anything for this day yet. My knee hurts so I do think the humidity is up and that makes my knee feel that way. Othere than that I feel great.:p I am thinking of having a bowl of that cut up fruit for my lunch. I will get a crockpot meal going when I finish posting. Blue Cheese-Stuffed Chicken Breasts for 5P+ which is on page 155 in the WW Slow Good, Super Slow-Cooker Cookbook. Say that 10 times fast. That way I won't be heating up the kitchen. I will put off making those chocolate cookies for another day which is cooler. Beanie came in from the back yard and into my office and dropped a rock at my feet the size between a golf ball and tennis ball. I picked it up and then gave him a "good boy treat." He plays with the oddest things. This is actually a hard dirt clod probably from the garden area. DONNA FAYE I am happy for you that your pains are lessening. Just takes a bit of time to get over a trauma such as you were in. Don't push yourself getting those slippers shipped for with this weather I am sure I won't be wearing them for awhile. :o Not that I won't try them on when they get here. ;) Did you ever get a little glass Fortune for that dog house? I love that commercial where that dog is in his dog-house and wouldn't even go in the house when it was pouring down rain because he is on guard for a cat burgler. Sounds like you will be very busy this coming weekend. It is great that you are using her pool now. JEAN They say we aren't supposed to get cooler for a long time yet. This is gonna be a long hot summer for sure. Will has been keeping sure the garden gets enough water. I have zuchini to cut up and get in the dryer today. We have to have the water turned off by noon or get a heavy fine but he gets it done before then. Right now he is braving the heat and working on that cabinet. GAIL Good to see you back! Sorry you have been sick. Sunday I had a touch of what has been going around and missed morning services but was well by noon. It came on me quick and left quickly.:p OOO a new leader ~ that will be interesting for you will have to "learn" her. Hopefully she will have a good personality that you can deal with. Chances are you will like here real well. The humidity isn't real high here so being outside isn't as oppressing as it is when there is high humidity such as what they have in TN ~ been there and been in that. I can deal with cookies in the house. They aren't one of my red light foods. My main most redlightfood is Cheetoes. I will eat the whole big bag so when we do buy them we get the little 4 P+ bags and I eat the whole bag that way and don't blow it. Just spend the 4P+ and that is that. We have to learn to deal with our enemies and you do well with giving things away or feeding your garbage disposal. SUSAN Hope your day is going well with you and you are staying cool. |
I'm home once again! Bob traded pickups so was home programming his new one when I got home from WM, which by the way didn't have everything on my list. :tantrum: We are leaving in a couple hours for Ian's game in Sioux Falls. Jason called this morning and said it was supposed to be a bit cooler up there today. The game is at 7:15 so the sun will be on its way down.
Gail -- I hate that spur of the moment stomach virus; I'm glad you are feeling better! I hope your FIL and dad didn't catch it from you. It was nice you could spend yesterday with your daughter and grandson. I hope your new WW leader will be a keeper. I sure wouldn't want to move to AZ in the summertime! We don't have a local Fed Ex office so have no clue where the dummy would have gone yesterday. He couldn't have been very far! There has been reports on tv about floods and the excessive rain damaging crops so to expect food prices to keep going up. :( Maggie -- Your fruit salad sounds cool and refreshing. :T That is a good idea and I could probably make it with no trouble. :o Ernie just got up from one of his many naps so I passed along your scratch between the ears to him. He wants the window open and doesn't understand it will be HOT air blowing in. Guess he wants to count birds and there aren't any out there right now. "Gma" -- I know you will enjoy your swim later today. I made a roast in the crockpot yesterday and it turned out hmm, hmm good! :T Maybe Fortune doesn't like it that you pay attention to Marty, and just needs a little extra. I'm glad your soreness is better. I've heard that seatbelts can cause pain big time. We have the same house # as the house where the carseat was supposed to go. If you have a Shopko near you, my friend who lost the 100+#s, bought capris and tops there as she lost the weight. She really likes that store but it is on her side of town in Sioux City, which is opposite the mall, K Mart, Target etc. I know how much you are looking forward to a Jackson visit. Grandchildren seem to grow up so much faster than our own kids did. :twirly: Would you believe the Fed Ex truck was just in my driveway? I didn't even bother to answer the door -- let him figure it out for himself! |
Taking A Break
:comp: GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
I got my chicken in the pot. I haven't made this in so long I forgot how good it is. After you get all the ingredients rounded up it is a snap to do. If anyone doesn't have that book and wants the recipe I can type it here for you. The recipe is for 4 servings and I cut it in half this day. It takes a bit more time then just tossing everything in the crock-pot but believe me it is worth it. I will serve it tonight with some of my rice mixture and a grean salad and fruit. I just noticed it is now 3 o'clock and I have not yet eaten this day. Just been drinkin' my coffee and being busy. :o JEAN A new truck! Is Bob an impulse buyer or has he been planning on this? What kind did he get? I like trucks. Poor cat just doesn't understand does he. Have fun at the game and I do hope it is cooler for you there. I need to go get what I was going to have for lunch in me. Type at y'all later. |
Maggie -- It actually wasn't too bad at the game since there was a breeze. The temperature was 90 when we got to the ball field but the humidity was lower. Ian had two nice hits and caught a fly ball, but his team lost. It's coach pitch and they only play 6 innings. He's got some really little (younger?) boys on his team this year. The other team was bigger and acted like they had played together longer. :dunno: Sioux Falls has 2 seasons a summer and this is the 2nd one. Did you use the Schwanz chicken breast for your recipe? No, Bob is not an impulse buyer, but he has been looking since there are great, no interest deals right now. He bought a full 4 door GMC Sierra. The only thing it didn't have was bun warmers and he will have them installed when he gets back from Canada. The salesman is a kid who was in Jason's class and Bob told him that would be my birthday present! The poor kid knew my car was new last summer and he thought Bob meant the pickup was for me.
I am heading off to bed! |

Good morning ladies. Well, I had to put salve in Marty's eyes, let them out to go to the bathroom, take some meat out of the freezer for dinner, so thought I would just sit here and post.
I finished an ebook last night called Carribbean Moon about a serial killer on a cruise ship. Dumb, huh? It was a good read though and had a gotcha kind of ending that the author left hanging open. I have another book by the same guy so maybe it will continue the story. The main character is a homicide police detective from of all places Lansing Michigan! Tonight is Burn Notice night and we are going to Kelly's swimming this afternoon. It is a nice way for Jack to relax after working in the sun. He is a bit whiny about the water though. He likes swimming in mid 90 degree bath water! Thomas has tried to tell him and I have tried to tell him to either get down in the water or get out, but don't stand half in and half out for 20 minutes as you never get used to it. Their pool seems to be around 88 at the moment, which is a nice refreshing swim. It is cool to get into, but once you are in it is perfect. I told him last time that he makes himself cold by not getting under the water because his bottom half warms to the water but the top half doesn't and stays chilled. Frankly, he is a baby about it so I give up and just swim and enjoy myself. Jean: Jack has been looking at the new 2012 Taurus. He is all jazzed because Ford has made some big changes to the Sync system that he likes. Our car is only 2 years old of course, but we plan on buying a new car the year before he retires. Poor Ian, I know one team has to lose, but it is always tough when it is your kid or grandkid. I saw a video clip yesterday of this little kid at a Giants game. He was about 7 it looked like. Well, a foul ball was hit up to where he was and the jerk woman in front of him reached out and basically took it away from him. She was all giddy and showing it around and this little fellow had this scowl on his face and his arms crossed over his chest pleading his case to his dad who you could read his lips saying, "she caught it son," or something to that effect. Well, to add insult to injury this woman kept her "look what I caught" act going and kept looking back at the boy and smiling, etc. It really irked me. I guess it irked the announcers of the game too, because they sent two balls over to the boys, he had a brother or friend sitting next to him. We don't have a Shopko but they have one online. Unfortunately, they don't carry my size. it is ok though, I have an online store that is decent priced and I am going to order 5 shirts and a couple more capri pants tomorrow. I found a cool place where they make the clothing to your measurements and they have some cute seersucker, which is my favorite fabric for summer pants and capris, but they want $69 for a pr of capris and that is ridiculous even if they do make them for you. I will just stick to this place. Maggie: They said there is a heat "dome" over the whole mid part of the country and it isn't moving. Thanks, but Jack would never eat it. He is not a big fan of chicken and would never eat blue cheese. Hope you enjoyed it. Gail: Hope your tummy is back to normal now. I had a bought of a little something yesterday afternoon. I still don't know why, but I am fine now. I don't like Crystal Light because it tastes so watered down. I have tried several flavors but never found one that didn't taste that way. My sister loves the stuff and drinks it all the time. I guess I better get going. I think I will put away dishes and then read or knit for awhile. Here is a picture Jay posted of my dil with her birthday presents. I guess she liked them! Her birthday is actually today but she got everything yesterday. Have a good Thursday everybody. Keep cool! Faye |
Good Morning, Flowers! It is raining as I type, we need it. It's supposed to be in the 80s today so I hope the weatherman was right. Ernie is sitting in the open window counting the birds coming and going. I think they are happy it is raining too.
"Gma" -- I know you are looking forward to another swim in the pool. I just don't understand why your association can't keep your pool going. :dunno: For whatever it is worth, Bob's adjuster has had several Ford Tauruses as his company car. He doesn't like them because they are so low to the ground, hard to get in and out of, and not a smooth ride. Our neighbor just bought one, as a 2nd car, after driving a van. Whenever they go anywhere out of town, they take the van because they are up higher and can see better. Bob had one of the bigger ones about 12/13 years ago and we really like it at the time. I had to  at your dil trying on her birthday gifts! I'd say she liked them! I am off to make brownies for Bob to take to Canada. Their fishing guide really enjoys anything homemade, so I send a treat of some sort every year. Have a terrific Thursday and enjoy! :D Jean -- from :rain: Iowa! |
Titilating Thursday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
I won't even talk about the weather but just say it is :flame:. I had a wonderful nights sleep. Wonder if the neighbors dogs are even home for I didn't hear one bark from them all evening or night or this morning. :cp: Our two dogs sure slept good also because of that. :p My coffee is good and hot and all is well. I am going to grill a couple small steaks for dinner this day and that won't heat up the kitchen. I'll figure what else to serve with it by the time dinner time rolls around. I won't be doing any baking this day unless it is in my bread machine. I thought I was getting some new recipes from my WW leader and they were ones I had sent to her that she was sending out to all the members. I guess no one else is sending recipes her way. She also sent out that research on the onion bloom I did. :p Anyway I am just wondering why no one else is sending her "stuff." I think I will have a smoothie for lunch. A power packed meal replacement one. Yep that sounds like a plan. Anyone want to join me? DONNA FAYE Your dear husband is missing out on a lot of good food since he doesn't like most things. But on the other hand it must be nice to only like a few things and that keeps it uncomplicated. ;) It makes it easier for you, for you don't have to have lots of seasonings and flavorings in your cupboard. Yep meal time for you is much simplier than for folks that like more things. Yep that heat dome is not moving. It is waiting for a storm to knock it off its place. :p Like I said the winter is supposed to be colder because of this long hot summer. We takes it as it comes. Which reminds me I need to get my berber jacket to the cleaners for I may need to wear it this winter. I left it hanging on the hook by the back door so I wouldn't forget to take it and there it hangs. JEAN OH what a neat truck. Now tell me what color is it? I love red trucks. Ford's red is good but Chevy makes the best red and black but I don't like Chevy trucks. Ford makes the best yellow and Cadalac the best cream. Earnie is dreaming of bird for a meal. :o Losing some games helps kids build character. Life isn't all about winning all the time now is it. There is always one team that is better than another. We had so much fun pumping up that team we had in MN that had never won more than a game or two in a a season and they took the championship that first year we worked with them. Then we lost 7 of the best players (due to age) and got some new young ones in and we won the championship again that year. It has a lot to do with the coaches of those little teams how they do. We never yelled at the boys ~ just taught them how to play and play well they did. Good morning to you GAIL & SUSAN hope your day is going well with you. Time to see what mischef I can get into this day. Type at y'all later. |
Maggie -- Not bragging, but the sun is not shining and it's a comfortable 72 degrees right now. We were outside talking to the neighbor and the mosquitoes are terrible! :dizzy: I'd love to have a smoothie with you! What kind did you make? :T Bob's pickup is called white diamond; put it next to a white vehicle and it is a different shade of white -- pretty. Ian is just concerned that he plays well right now. Jason helps coach and works with him at home. He is more competitive in swimming; Amanda was a swimmer in high school and college so guess that comes naturally for him. Both he and Zowie get swimming lessons through their daycare.
Susan and Gail -- What are you doing today? :twirly: |
Back For A Bit
:comp:GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
I hear thunder right over us so maybe it will rain. :cp: JEAN I bet that truck is so nice looking. The smothie ~ I made an Orange Julious which is yummy and filling. Here is the recipe if you want to try it. ORANGE JULIOUS a la Maggie Combine all of the ingredients in a blender set on high speed for exactly one minute: 1/2 cup Orange Juice 1/2 cup water 1 eggs worth of Egg Beaters 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 2 T Splenda measures like sugar 1 heaping half cup of ice It costs a whopping 2P+ 7.3 Prot; 13.5 Carb; 0.2 Fat; 0.2 Fib If you want it to cost more points use a real egg and sugar. :p Since the thunder is just overhead I need to turn this computer off. Type at y'all later. |
Good morning to you all! We had a nice fat rain storm here last evening thunder and all so it is even more sticky if that is possible. We went swimming yesterday and in the 100 degree heat it was just lovely. I got some nice exercize and we visited with Kelly's friend who is taking care of the pool, plants, cat and such while she is gone. We only have weekend duty for that this weekend. Come to find out, her husband was one of Jack's students in electronics school here in Memphis before Jack retired. Small world.
I am doing the serious happy dance. :carrot::dance: I got my new scale and weighed myself and have lost another 10 lbs so I am only 8 lbs from my first goal of losing 55 for vacation and I still have 8 weeks until vacation so it looks good. We thought the old scale was messed up because it gave me such a big loss, but guess not as the new scale is weighing me the same. I am thrilled with Jack. He looks spectacular and only has about 15 lbs still to go. He wears a uniform to work so he doesn't have control on getting new pant sizes quickly so he had a pair of 42's he had to wear this morning. He could pull them off his hips with his belt on!!! He told me last night he is never ever putting that much weight on again. His cardiologist will be thrilled that's for sure. Jean: One of Kelly's friends from high school is one of my Facebook friends and just got back from Florida. She says the mosquitos there were horrendous. She says she has at least 22 bites on her arms and legs and such. We haven't noticed mosquitos being bad, but then our weather has been pretty dry here so not a lot of standing water and such. Kelly's house always has bad mosquitos and even they aren't having bad ones so far this year. Sounds like a beautiful truck. Jack and I saw this pink job on the road yesterday. It had one of those expensive paint jobs where the color looks like it changes as you drive past so it was like orchid, then pink and a light purple, etc. Only blacks paint their cars kooky colors like that and spend the big bucks here on paint jobs and those spinner wheel rims. Dumb way to waste money IMO. Our rental car is a Ford Focus and it actually has great leg room and seat room. It does sit low, but I think that is because we are used to an SUV. Looks like we are going to have it for a couple more weeks though as the guy is just starting to order parts and they are coming from Ford so they take longer. He is also being very thorough, which we appreciate. Gail and Susan: Hope your day is bright and sunny, but not hot and humid! Everyone have a grand weekend. We have a date night and are going to see the new HP movie. We are eating dinner at home first so only having a small snack at the theater as a treat. Faye |
Good morning everyone! I'm not going to talk about the weather right now. We all know it's HOT. Nuff said.
Donna! TEN POUNDS GONE?! Bless your heart! Good job! :carrot: :D  I knew you were going to get a fantastic reading when that scale arrived! I know you were dancing! Did you sing?! I would be...and I can't sing. And some people would question whether or not I can dance! But I would! TEN POUNDS!!! Wonderful! Sounds like you had a very nice time swimming and talking with an old student of Jack's. Last night on the news they had a photo of a new breed of mosquito that is new to the US. It is frightening!! I hope that is not the kind of mosquito in Florida. It's black with white spots! Scarey looking. I've been wondering about the Ford Focus....do y'all like driving it? Would you buy it? I'm going to be trading my car in when the news ones come out in our area. I don't know what I want though. All I know it has to have heated seats! And it cannot be the color red! I like burgundy but not red. Have fun on your date night! Wayne and I have a date night every now and then and that's fun. I hear the movie is great! Maggie, thanks for the recipe you sent but Wayne will not eat it. The "fanciest" casserole or recipe Wayne will eat is my mac and cheese. Wayne eats very simply. Probably why he doesn't have a weight problem...or weight issues that get out of hand. I don't care for bleu cheese either. There's not many foods I don't like but anchovies, liver, and bleu cheese are the few that come to mind that I don't like. When it's hot like this I don't even drag out my crock pot. We order pizza and go out to eat! Last night was pizza and tonight we're going to Applebee's. Jean, a new vehicle! We have been looking for a new vehicle. At first we were going to trade in Wayne's Dodge Ram truck and now I think we're going to trade in my car (Dodge Impala). You're right--there aren't very many good deals out there and if there are the 2011's have been picked over. I told Wayne to just wait until we see a full line up of the 2012's. And by then, we may change our minds again about which vehicle to trade it. I say we do a "full sweep"! Susan, I meant to say something earlier. I'm a member of AARP and I have never checked out their website. I need to do that! I love their magazine and bulletin they send us. |
Good Morning, Flowers! It's warming up and going to be in the 90s again today. Yesterday was a nice break. I have been awake since 4 when Bob got up to leave for Canada. Poor Ernie came upstairs with his eyes half open as if to say, "it's still my bedtime!" I tried to go back to bed but ended up reading then got up at 6 which is my regular time. I have lots of little projects I could work on today. I also might brave the heat and check out a shoe store that had a coupon in the paper. It's Ridiculous Days here, which is kind of silly considering we don't have many stores to shop in any more. There is no place to shop for kids except WM and that used to be a big drawing card for downtown when we had Penneys as well as a kids clothing store.
Maggie -- Thanks for sharing the recipe. :T I do wonder about the raw egg though, since ice cream recipes all say to cook them. That sounds like scrambled egg ice cream. "Gma" -- :congrat: on the wonderful loss! I will do the happy dance with you! I didn't realize that Jack had taught electronics. Perhaps you have mentioned it and I spaced it off which is very possible. I know you are looking forward to seeing HP; enjoy your date night! I want to see Julia Roberts' new movie, Larry Crowne. I hope it's better than her last one! Gail -- I don't like to cook period, but especially when it is hot. Bob does quite a bit of grilling during the warmer months; we eat plain and simple too. I get tired of car shopping! We drive through car lots in every town around then always buy local. Bob keeps wanting to get a trailer to haul his tractor to tractor rides so needs a heavier pickup. Enjoy your supper at Applebee's! :T Guess I'll get dressed and pick up the kitchen next. Have a fantastic Friday, stay cool, and enjoy! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Jean, car shopping! I am so sick of that too! DRIVES me crazy! I tell Wayne to go out there and look since he loves to car shop and when he sees something that knocks his socks off to come get me and then I'll look. Or do the deal and bring it home! He knows what colors I like. He knows what options I like. He knows me! I don't mind being surprised! I also agree with you about Julia Roberts. Her last two movies I didn't care for but I would like to see the newest one, Larry Crowne. I think she will do better in this one since Tom Hanks is in it and directing it. At least I hope so. Because if this hot weather keeps up I see a movie in my future! Before Walmart and Kohl's were built in my town, we didn't have any stores where you could buy anything to wear. It feels nice not having to go out to the mall everytime I need something. Not that I don't like the mall....you know what I mean! :)

Finally Friday
:comp: GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
Yep it is going to be another hot day in the Heartland. I have my work all done early and get to do some reading this day. Will bought me a book from the library that folks take there for them to sell. This book cost a whole dollar and originally sold for $15.95 and was printed in 2003 and in brand new condition. It will be an interesting read I do believe. The name is Combat Fat, the complete plan for permanent weight loss by Andrew Flach, ACE with Rose Marie Alfieri, Stewart Smith, James Villepigue and M. Laurel Cutlip, Rd, LN ~ with a preface by F. Xavier Pi-Sunyer, MD. It is based on the official surgeon general and CDC guidelines. I imagine the book goes hand in hand with the WW program. I'll know better about that when I have read it. I will quit with the sending of recipes since none of you want to try them for one reason or another. That's OK though ~ to each his own. No harm, no foul. Foul ~ isn't that chicken and duck and trukey? DONNA FAYE Yes do your happy dance for that is wonderful about your weight loss. :cp: Wasn't it you that said you didn't like the flavored waters because they were not strong enough? If so let me tell ya ~ we have a pur water filter system on our faucet in the kitchen that takes the flavor bottles which are very small and very concentrated and you can push the little button for how many drops of the concentrate you want in the water. So you control how weak or strong you want your drink to be. Right now there is berry in there but I also have a lemon one. It is sugar free, no calories and no dyes. JEAN That is a hoot about Earnie. Did he nap later like a good kitty. Hope Bob is successful during his trip. Does he catch walleye? Yum. GAIL I am sure you will buy a nice vehicle after the new ones come out. They are getting so neat with all the goodies they put in them now. SUSAN Doing OK are ya? |
Maggie -- Let us know if you learn anything you didn't already know from your new book. ;) Ernie was up on my bed as soon as I made it, and has been sleeping most of the day. He really wanted the window open earlier, but it has turned very humid again. It's only 82, but the sun is hiding and we've had a few sprinkles every once in awhile. I think the guys fish for northerns, but it could be walleye. A fish is a fish to me! :o My favorite is the little perch we used to catch off the dock at my parents' cabin in MN. They went right into the frying pan for lunch! :T
