Steel Magnolias #22
I am going to post this first one quickly so in case you are online you have a place to post. I was typing and getting ready to post and our power went out.
|
Bummer, I lost a whole post and have to start over so I imagine this one will be shorter. We are going to be very hot today at around 90 and with all this water around the humidity is going to be brutal. One of the corp of engineers said the Mississippi is normally 3/4 mile across, and it is currently 3 miles across!!! It is supposed to crest tonight sometime and stay that way for at least 10 days before making its way back down so I imagine Jack will be working this way for awhile.
Susan: I sure hope Glory is on the upswing. Does she have asthma or COPD issues like you do? That was some meal you were able to avoid most of. I imagine the cake alone could have put a lb on you if you ate a whole piece. Everything did sound delicious though. Jean: Hope you, Bob and the kids had a great time together yesterday. I do wish the two kids lived close together so that we could get together as a family more often than once a year, but is isn't to be so we enjoy it when he can. Alicia called me last night to wish me a Happy Mother's Day. She had been in Indianapolis all weekend doing a mini marathon. She is such a sweetheart to think of me because Jay had already called me as did Kelly earlier in the day. Kelly bought me a gift card to Knitpicks so I will have fun picking out some new yarn when I get that. She had them email it so me, but it hasn't gotten here so far. If it isn't in my email by this evening I will let her know so she can contact them. I am sure she did it yesterday and they probably weren't processing anything yesterday. They don't do immediate stuff at that site. Maggie: I imagine the doggys are all up and at em this morning. Fortune is driving me nuts. He wants to go out constantly, won't lay still, etc and I know it is because he doesn't understand why his routine is messed up, but it is taking its toll on me, especially when Jack is sleeping because he is barking, which he never does. He went out this morning and refused to come back in and I was in night clothes, but had to trudge out there and haul him indoors. Not much else going on. Should finish that sock today as I am about 1/3 of the way done with the toe now and it goes pretty fast. Hope you gals all have a great start to your week. I am going to go and get some canteloupe and a piece of lowfat frozen french toast and have breakfast. Have a good one! Faye |
Marvelous Monday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
What a georgeous day here in the Heartland. It is 75 now and I would like it to stay there but the talking heads say it will get hotter. I am a very happy camper this day. I showed a loss of another pound. Yep I am down a pound even after yesterdays celebration (which wasn't really that out of line). I am just 4 pounds away from being able to move a weight chunk over on my scale. Right now it sits on the 250 mark and after the loss of 4 more it will be sitting on the 200 mark. And the next time it gets moved over will be to the 150 mark. :carrot: Now I get to start a new week with a load of brand new 49 points to spend as needed. We finished up the fresh pineapple yesterday but still have a few strawberries. Need to get to the store and load up on fruit again. WW sure did me a favor when they made most of the fruits points change. We have 3 collage graduation parties to attend this week. I am really going to have to have my will power working and just concentrate on having a good time and stay away from the food. I have not yet planned this days food but have a bit of time left before I have to think about that. DONNA FAYE Our electricity was acting funny last night while we were at church and Will didn't miss a beat while preaching. Off and on several times. It wasn't quite as dramatic as one time in MN there was a huge clap of thunder hit and the lights went out and it was pitch black dark in the building while Will was making an inportant statement. Quite dramatic. It was still light outside last evening so we could still see. I sure hope that Jack can keep getting to work and not get stuck there and can't get home. Better to be stuck at home. The mighty Mississippi is spreading out quite far. We have bottled up our waterways and they want to be free. The doggies are gone somewhere with Will. I seem to remember his saying last evening he was going to the nursery to see about some plants he wants. Going to get that sock done this day are ya? I need to finish up a building and I don't have the gumption to do that today. I have other things I need to do this day and need to get to them. JEAN, GAIL, SUSAN I know all of you gals are doing well this day and in to something. Have a wonderful start to a new weight loss week y'all. |
Good Morning, Flowers! It was pretty dark outside early this morning so I thought sure we would get some rain sometime. The sun has come out so it's quite humid and warm at 76 degrees. I went to the church office this morning; my part would go so much faster if people would use assigned envelopes and write checks rather than cash. I finally got smart and put check envelopes together and cash envelopes together so that helps speed the process a little. On my way up the street I saw an elderly man sitting at the end of his driveway; today is recycle day and his bag was sitting beside him. He waved at me and I stopped to help him up. He kept saying he was fine but I hung on to him and walked him back to the garage. I just phoned his wife to make sure he was ok; she said he has a skinned up elbow (through his jacket) and a scraped knee. He was pretty wobbly but determined to get in the house by himself.
We had a little black furry visitor on the deck this morning. Ernie was meowing softly where he usually has a "get off my deck" howl. I talked to the half grown kitten and it came right up to the screen and went nose-to-nose with Ernie. I'm sure if I would have opened the door it would have come inside. The cat hater has his live trap set next door so I hope the cat doesn't go that direction. :( "Gma" -- I can't imagine all the flooding. I see it on the news and am in awe. I hope your electricity has settled down  and no more outages. I'm sure you will get your sock done and on its way soon. Fortune reminds me of having a determined 2 year old! ;) Maggie -- :congrat: on losing another pound on your way down the scale! We often grill more meat than we will eat at one time. Bob had to refill our grill gas tank and he said the price is almost three times what it was last year. Our car gas just dropped 10 cents this morning! :cheer: I need to check of leftovers for lunch and get a start on that before Bob gets home. Hope you all have a marvelous Monday! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Back To Yack
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
It is now 93 degrees here in the Heartland at 2:55 in the afternoon as I type. Of course our air conditioner is on and the ceiling fans whirring. We just got back from picking up the dogs from their groomer giving them a bath. They both smell so good now. Just now for it doesn't take long for them to wear out that nice smell.:( We stopped by and got our coffee and a wonderful blueberry muffin. It is so nice that we have learend to split things.:p You gals are gonna love this. Will told me today that a new Cabri by Whirlpool washer and dryer are being delivered tomorrow. He got a deal of about a $100 off the set. Awhile back we had discussed that we needed a new set of our own. The church currently owns the ones we now use for they were left here by a former preacher. If we have our own when we do leave here one day we can take them with us and rehook the old ones up. Meanwhile we will just put the older ones in the "storage" room which is downstairs also. Will does the laundry so he should have the set he wants. I don't think it plays music but it has lots of neat bells and whistles and sensors that let you wash small loads so it saves on water. I certainly don't mind at all doing laundry but don't do stairs well and he doesn't mind doing it. There just isn't anyplace upstairs for them to be used. :( It would be too much to have the house replumbed and make one of these bedrooms upstairs into a laundry room. I would like that but it won't happen. I got my Williams Sonoma Outdoor Kitchen catalogue today and they have some grill pans of perferated stainless steel I want to get. Probably have to wait until I get to put some money on my debit card next month. I tried to tell Will he could give me that $100 he saved on the W&D and I could use it on my stainless grill pans. He just shot me a look. ;) JEAN What a nice thing you did for your neighbor man and then make a follow up call. :cp: Neighbors need to look out for each other and you are a good one to have. I imagine charcoal bricketts are more spendy this year also. I think we are still using last years but in our smoker bbq-er we can use wood which is helpful. Will trimmed the apple tree and we have plenty of that wood to last this summer anyway. But in our Webber we do need charcoal. The price of gas stayed the same here and also in Texas. SUSAN & GAIL Have a great afternoon. |
Hi everyone!
I think my life has turned into a soap opera. I had a very nice weekend, spending Saturday with my oldest daughter and my grandson. I had a great time at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival up until about 12:45pm because...I FAINTED! :dizzy: Standing in line waiting my turn in the ladies room at the fair. I have never passed out before. It was so strange coming to with 3 EMTs and my friend hovering over me! And yes I saw my family doctor today who said it was sugar spike thing. Not only did I faint but I hit my face when I went down and I have the most purple shiner of all time. I look like someone beat me up. My glasses cut the bridge of my nose. And where I hit my face at the brow that is cut too. I have bruises and scrapes on my hands. Once I came to I was feeling much better. Before it happened I was feeling terribly nauseous and I honestly thought it was from smelling all that fried food the fairs always cook. I didn't realize that another symptom was extreme tiredness and let me tell you I was yawning like I needed a nap badly. Plus my blood pressure is high. Anyway, I had an EKG this morning and I'm fine. I go to get bloodwork done tomorrow morning. I have to make an appointment at a cardiac office to wear a heart monitor. And my blood pressure medicine is being increased to something stronger. :o I'm okay but I don't look okay. Donna Faye, I thought about you yesterday...before I passed out. You would've loved all the vendors there selling yarn. What is so great was buying yarn from private sheep and alpaca farmers who spin their own yarn. I saw some gorgeous stuff! And yes, I bought some!! ;) And I've thought of you constantly because of all the flooding that you are experiencing now. I'm so glad where you live you will not be flooded out of your home. Y'all just be careful. Maggie, roses! That is so nice! I love the WW program with the free fruit. I surely did not get overweight by eating too much fruit! Congratulations on another pound gone...forever! :D I love those milestones. It felt really good to be able to tell my family doctor this morning how much weight I've lost since he last saw me last year. Susan, I'm sorry to hear that your friend, Glory is so sick. I'll keep her in my prayers. You are a good friend. We all need friends that can stand in for our relatives when something goes wrong. I know I'm surely grateful for my friend yesterday being there for me! Jean, bless your heart! I know the man that you helped was grateful for you being there. I'm grateful that my FIL's neighbor was outside to hear his call for help when he fell. I'm okay...but my face feels weird. My eye is so swollen all I want to do is close it and I'm ending up typing with one eye open. I need to go put an ice pack on it again. Y'all take care... |
It is 91 degrees right now and has set a record . . . the weather channel said so. I am NOT ready for this hot weather this soon! I would like some spring weather days. I'm glad the computer is on the east side of the house because it is a bit cooler in here. No, I don't have the air on because I know it will cool down as soon as the sun goes down.
Maggie -- I have the Whirlpool Cabrio washer and dryer. I still like to think I am smarter than it is! We certainly couldn't tell any difference in our water and electric bills either. I would love to have the laundry room upstairs by the bedrooms; that makes sense to me! I'd probably never set foot in the basement if that were the case. Gail -- I imagine you look like you have been in a fight. :yikes: I feel so badly for you but glad that there is a simple explanation as to why you fainted. It's good that you are having a follow-up with your own doctor. Ernie and I took a nap this afternoon. I haven't been sleeping as well as I normally do and I guess that caught up with me today. I'm still yawning. Bob is at practice so I need to do some picking up and decide on something for supper. Grilling hamburgers sounds like a good plan! |
Back For A Bit
GOOD LATE AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
You all probably know how much Will loves baseball. He has worked in it for years and hasn't done any since moving here. However, the gentleman that is head of First Calll where Will is a volunteer to arrange rooms and food for indigent folks was talking to him today when they were down at the phone place getting new phones for the volunteers to carry. Anyway he volunteers with the kids and asked Will if he had any experience ~ does he! Well he is going down to help the guy this evening since he is the only one doing it and Will feels sorry for him since he doesn't know much about the game. I can just see where this is going. JEAN So we will have twins in W&D. Our basement is actually a floor below the main floor. Since this is tornado alley (used to be anyway) they built a lot of houses this way. Most of the rooms down there have wall to wall carpeting. I think the one Will uses for his reloading room has pergo flooring. But we don't get any flooding down there at all. The rec room which is below the main room up here is pergo also. It is just like a two storey house with one floor underground. Three bedrooms down there and three up here. Instead of a kitchen & dining room down there is a large laundry room. Two bathrooms down there also. I just never go down there.:p I told Will he could rig up one of those electric chair things on the railing that I could sit in and go up and down stairs and he said, "What ever for? There is nothing for you to go down there for." I go down the stairs to the basement at the chruch where the kitchen and dining room is but I am down there for a period of time before I have to go back up. If I did laundry here it would be just too many trips up and down the stairs for my leg. So that's that. GAIL What a scare that must have been for you to go through. Now that you are getting all checked out with your doctor they can regulate your system and get you back to exact. It is interesting how our systems can alert us to a problem that needs to be taken care of. I bet you look cute with that shiner. Other than that episode I am glad you had a good time and bought some things that caught your eye at the festival. It is fun to go back to the doc when you have lost weight. I like the way the eyebrows go up when they see the change in numbers. You take care now and no more falling down ya hear! Steady as you go. I need to go get something for Will to eat before he heads out to the ball field. Yack at y'all later. |
Good morning to you all! Well I guest the river crested last night so we shall see how long it takes to recede now. They are saying at least another 2 weeks for it to be back to normal levels. I guess we shall see, that's all we can do. I saw a couple of recent pictures of one of the casinos an the entrance has the water up to about a foot from the top of those huge doors they always have. Some of them just have flooded parking lots, but a couple have some major problems looks like.
I picked out some gorgeous yarn yesterday and am adding a bit to it and will purchase in the next day or so. I also bought a book on learning to colorwork because that might be interesting to do sometime. I haven't done any intricate colorworking just stripes and I did a hat once. Gail: Oh sweety, I am soooooo sorry. I know you must feel just awful. I have a friend who lives in Maryland and knits, that's the way we met online actually, and she always goes to that fair and is always so excited about it each year. My problem I think would be controlling myself! :lol:I was bored stiff yesterday because my yarn didn't come. I just don't want to start a new project because I need to get Alicia's started and finished before her birthday. I found a cute free pattern for coffee cup cozys for like Starbucks cups and such. I picked out some beautiful yarn to make several of those then I can give them as gifts and such. The pattern is 3d and very easy. I hope the bruises fade fast as does all your cuts and scratches and you feel better. Jean: It is hotter than blue blazes here too and so humid you can hardly breath. My floors are actually sticky from humidity and I can do nothing about that. I am just thankful they aren't under water. My heart just goes out to all the people whose homes are under water right now and are leaving in shelters for maybe weeks. I think maybe next year we will replace my washer before it goes belly up. It is almost 12 years old and probably ready to go soon. I will get a bigger wash tub I think since there is plenty of room in the laundry room for a bigger washer. I think we will be having spaghetti tonight. I made Jack's favorite meat loaf, scalloped potato and baked beans for dinner, using things like egg beaters, ff milk, etc to cut the points a lot and cut down on ketchup with is high in sugar and such. It made the kitchen hot, but I turned on the exhaust fan and put a fan in the kitchen and it wasn't too bad. I know, seems like you jumped right from winter to summer! Did you see Arnold and Maria have separated? Wow, big surprise on that one, he being a Republican and she a very liberal democrat. I am surprised it too so long. Maggie: Jack would love to do little league again I think, but with his knees like they are, umpiring, which he likes isn't in the cards anymore and his schedule now is so goofy that it is impossible. Hope you have a good day today. Well short and sweet, but Jack just steped in the door and I want to talk to him a bit before he goes to bed. Faye |
Good morning...happy Tuesday!
I have been up since 5am and out the door at 6am to go get the bloodwork done. It's about 8:45am and I've eaten breakfast, read the newspaper, and most of my household chores are done for the day. Too bad I don't feel comfortable about going out in public; I would go to the mall. Not going outside this house only to walk to the end of the driveway to fetch the mail. I admit I'm vain (sp?) but I really don't want to scare small children! Anyway, if I stay home I don't spend money. So I'll knit. I'll read. I'll try to find a new recipe for dinner tonight--(1) that Wayne will eat and (2) one that I have the ingredients on hand. I'm thinking fish as I have some frozen flounder filets and Wayne likes that. Donna Faye, on our news last night the newscaster said it would probably take 2-3 weeks for the water to go down?! Is that right?! I feel so sorry for everyone that lives within the flooded areas of the Mississippi. I want to learn intarsia and fair isle and I've tried on my own and it doesn't look very nice so I'm hoping the owner of my local yarn shop will hold a class on how to do one of those. I feel intimidated by it...which I know will go away because I can remember feeling intimidated about learning how to knit a sock and now I can do that so I know eventually I'll be able to knit intarsia and fair isle. Knitting keeps me calm. Since I finished the baby blanket I wanted to just knit something simple and also use the KnitPicks Harmony needles I bought. I'm knitting a dish cloth! A simple dishcloth. And the needles are wonderful!!! I didn't buy the whole set of Harmony needles; I only bought a pair of size 8s. I highly recommend them. Do you have any of those? The points are sharp and the yarn sliiiiiiiides just right! I love your gift idea for the to go coffee cups. I have a pattern for those cozies I found somewhere on-line. You know what? NOW would be a great time to knit Christmas presents!! About the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival--yes, you would be able to control yourself at some point because there is so much yarn! And a lot of the yarn prices are very very expensive especially for large projects. By going on Sunday, I did get a marked down price on some DK weight yarn that is so lovely--earth tones varigated throughout with a tweed like look to it--two hanks, 200 yards each, for a total of $20. It will be enough for some mittens and a hat for sure. I also bought 650 yards (fingering weight) of Silk Road from Kipparoo Farms--that is a beautiful pink-rose-purplish gray. That came with "Sheep Tracks Shawl" pattern. That was $42. And last but not least I bought some fingering weight yarn from one of my favorite vendors and that is Miss Babs. I bought two hanks in "Coventry" which is a tonal light creamy green and I plan on using that for a shawl. Total for that yarn is $48. I had to call it a day because well....if you could see how much yarn I already have. Donna, I donate yarn to the American Cancer Federation once a year because there is no way I'm going to be able to knit all that yarn up. BUT...my oldest daughter did say at some point she's going to learn how to kniw...and perhaps she will then "go shopping" at my house. I would love to sit and knit with you! Maggie, oh yes, I remember how much Will loves baseball. He will be a wonderful volunteer and teacher. It's wonderful how much volunteering he does. He seems so busy! And I know he's a great preacher--remember you sent me a tape of one of his sermons waaaaaay back when! I am so scared that they will find I am diabetic from all the testing they are doing on me right now. Because whenever I tell someone what happened to me the first thing they ask is am I diabetic! And I know if THAT is true then I know it is a Godsend that I find out. Its just that I've gotten my act together in the past year where food and exercise is concerned. Jean, bless your heart...91 degrees! I wouldn't be ready for that kind of heat either. All I can say is try to stay cool. One side of my house is also cooler. We were so excited when this house was built--all those huge windows over the three sliding glass doors in the living room....but the heat that comes through and yes, we have the glass tinted and I keep the drapes closed on the doors in the summer. This week we're only getting to around 70-74 degrees for the high and that is perfect...in my opinion. Susan, I'm thinking of you and hoping your friend is feeling better. Dr. Oz is on tv and I need to go watch him! Take care everyone--I'll peek back inside later. |
Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining and NO wind for a nice change of pace around here. The weatherman says 93 for today. :flame: I may have to break down and turn on the air. I'm glad the flannel sheets are off the bed!
Since it has turned HOT, I need to dig out Bob's short sleeved shirts for work. He headed up to the cabin today to do some painting. His secretary is gone and the farmers are in the field, so there really isn't anything for him to do but watch the clock go around at the office. "Gma" -- There was a map of the Mississippi River flooding on the front page of the newspaper today. Memphis was on there and so was Vicksburg, MS, where another of my WW cyber friends live, but she's not close to the flooded area. I did see the news about Arnold and Maria this morning; I've always thought she looked anorexic. :twirly: I was surprised to learn that Meredith Vieira is leaving the Today Show since she hasn't been there all that long. The coffee cup cozy sounds like a cute, fast gift to make. Gail -- I'm like you and probably wouldn't go out with the scrapes and bruising so evident. Some people might assume you had been in an accident or beaten up. :o I can hear the geese honking; they have babies and are very protective parents. The neighbors across the street, on the lake, have a hunting dog that barks at everything; I imagine the geese are close by. What are Harmony knitting needles? :dunno: Maggie -- I'll bet Will enjoys working with the baseball kids. :cheer: If the other guy isn't into the game he will really appreciate Will's help and expertise. I have a load of towels to fold and another load ready for the dryer so need to keep moving. Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday and enjoy! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |

Good morning, ladies! It's 65 degrees right now.
Yesterday was applique bee at Bella and then I went to Glory's. She's a little better but not much. Today is work, the Y, quilt guild and Glory. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all had Skyp so we could see each other and talk - and knit together! Faye, I see the MS River crested 1 foot lower than the big flood back in '37. What a mess that will be. It's funny because I got my annual flood insurance premium yesterday. Paid it today. I was thinking the MS was much wider at Memphis. The James River is 5 miles + through here. My scarf is coming along. We quilters also have a quilted version of the cozy for coffee cups. I made up a pattern for one for water bottles years ago. People love them because it keeps your desk or table dry. Jean, you sure are hot! We're way below normal temperatures. My laundry room is on the second floor and I absolutely love it. No more toting clothes downstairs and up, just a few things from downstairs that I can carry in one hand. People who don't want to pay for insurance shouldn't expect handouts when disaster strikes. Responsible ownership means protecting your holdings. The people here are carrying on because FEMA isn't going to pay for those without insurance to rebuild and repair. Gail, I have a sunroom. that is all windows on 3 sides and then 3 skylights in the roof. Sounded like a good thing at the time. It was so hot. I had all the windows and skylights replaced with thermal panes that have an R factor for the tropics. It's now a nice and cool room year round. We have several farms in Gloucester that have alpacas and llamas and sell wool rovings for spinning and finished yarn. It is so soft and beautiful and so, so expensive! 2 years ago I went to Mathews Market Days with 2 of my friends and we were walking along and suddenly Shelly wasn't there. We started retracing where we had walked and found her laying on the ground with an EMT over her. Low blood sugar made her faint. Now we make sure she eats before we go somewhere and regularly if we are out all day. I don't think I'd leave the house bruised either. Maggie, Will is such a keeper. If you don't mind telling me, what happened to your leg? It's okay if you don't want to talk about it. We don't have basements here because of the high water level. I fell in love with a McKenna Ryan (designer) quilt that is going to be a block of the month (each month we get another block) quilt at Bella. I've attached a picture below. Perfect for this area. I just love the colors. Have a great day! |
Titilating Tuesday
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
It is 76 degrees and fixin’ to be 92 by 5 pm this day. Will went to Wal*Mart to get Beanie a wading pool. They were sold out. Yesterday they had three huge stacks of them. The new washer and dryer are being delivered today as I type and Will asked me if I wanted to take a quick look at them before they got taken downstairs. I laughed. He has decided to not get involved with that coach after all. The man wants his own son to be the pitcher and that kid can’t pitch. The kid that can is in the field. He has his favorites on bases where they don’t need to be etc. Nope, It won’t work out for he doesn’t want to learn just wants help in controlling the kids and do it his way. He is going to have a rude awaking one day when he doesn’t even know the rules and is playing another team. I don’t have a clue what I am going to make for dinner but will find something suitable to my program in the freezer for sure. I am getting mighty low on fresh fruit and need to make up a shopping list. DONNA FAYE Water, water everywhere. The mighty Mississippi has its own mind for sure. All this talk about knitting makes me want to get my hands in it. I do think this coming winter would be a good time for me to make myself an ecru throw of an Arian pattern. JEAN I imagine you will be having trips to the cabin soon. Nice that Bob can get there and do some painting. Thanks for the heads up on that smoothie recipe. It will be easy to cut down from 4 servings to two. GAIL You will be purple then green & yellow before you get pink again. :p I think I would go out and about and let folks think what they will. But if you feel better staying in then do so for if you don’t have anything out there you need ~ why go. I do hope you aren’t diabetic. That’s a whole new thing that takes getting used to. SUSAN OK the story about my leg. About 10 years ago while living in TN I started a walking program and worked up to 2 miles a day. One morning I awoke with excruciating pain in my left leg that would not let up no matter what I tried. I was taken to emergency and when we got there and were entering the parking space the pain left and my left foot no longer could be lifted up. They put me throigh all the tests they could think of. I suffered a slipped disk in my back which left me with some nerve damage in that leg. I can push my foot down but not lift it up. I was diagnosed with a slipped lumbar disk that caused me to have “drop foot.” I wear a brace that keeps my foot up so I can walk. So I do best when I walk on even terrain. I do stairs one at a time. The therapist told me I could do things that flowed but not that do stop ~ start. I can do up stuff but not down stuff. So Will was given the choice of hiring a cleaning person or do it himself. That is why he does the mopping and vacuuming. I pretty much know what I can and can’t do now. I am so thankful when that foot dropped the pain stopped. Some folks that have this still have the pain. And those with diabetes can’t wear the brace. I am sure glad those young men who are doing the delivery like dogs for ours are very friendly and think they came to play with them. Well Magnolias I am off to see what mischif I can get into this day. Everyone have a lovely day. |
Susan -- I do hope Glory gets to feeling better soon! You are such a good friend to check on her and help with whatever she might need. The Weather Bug says it is 95 degrees here while my thermometer says it is 103! :yikes: I'm sure it's not that hot because it never agrees with what the tv says. I did break down and turn the air on because I've been sorting clothes upstairs and it's much warmer up here. FEMA provided mobile homes (if one could call them that as they were pretty ratty looking) for the Iowa flood victims. Some people are still living in them which is sad but they have no insurance, no money and no where else to go. The quilt is beautiful! I would love to see it in person.
Maggie -- That's too bad about Will and the baseball program. The coach will have to learn the hard way. Unfortunately, playing favorites is the way it goes sometimes. It's the kid who warms the bench who could be having fun just playing the game. I had to  at Will buying Beanie a wading pool! The little yappy, but cute, neighbor's dog has disappeared. The mom was out looking for her Sunday night. They let her run the neighborhood and I told her way last winter something would happen to her because she was running in and out of driveways with the snow piled high and she is white. I told her to check with the cat hater because the live trap is set again. I just hope she isn't a splat up on the highway. |
Good morning. Still purple. Looks black-purple on my eye lid. I don't like this. And I'll be the first to admit I'm a tad nervous as to why I fainted because...
Maggie, that is the FIRST thing people ask me, "are you diabetic?" And I've thought of that and I'm sure the tests that are being run on me will find that out if I am. I hear what you are saying--let people think what they want for surely they will do that anyway and that old saying "what other people are saying (thinking) about me is none of my business" has a whole lot of truth in that. And yeah...I know trying not to go out in public is a clear case of vanity on my part. I'll get over this and I know I'll be laughing about this in the near future. Actually, I laugh and joke about it now but that's in the privacy of my own home! I do go out...when I have to: doctor's office and LabCorp. And I do plan on going to the grocery store on Friday morning EARLY when there are not as many people out and I'll make like a celebrity and wear my sunglasses inside the store. Anyway... Well for goodness sakes...I don't blame Will for stepping away from helping out. I just see nothing but frustration and annoyance dealing with that man that wanted help. Those kids need to learn the sport and it's clear they are not going to learn it! And as for controlling those kids, Will is not a babysitter. Furthermore, playing baseball is an activity those kids would want to play. How about learning discipline from playing the sport. Doesn't say much about the man that is running that team...into the ground before they even get started. Knitting a blanket is a winter-type thing and that sounds beautiful to knit! Jean, Harmony needles are sold by KnitPicks. They are not only beautiful because of all the colors running through the needle but they are so smooth the yarn just glides off (but under control) wonderfully. They are not expensive. Go to www.knitpicks.com and you can see them there. Do you knit also? Susan, I agree with you--Virginia has a lot of sheep and alpaca farms where they spin their own yarn. I've thought how cool that would be to make a road trip throughout Virginia going to all those farms! Of course, it would probably bankrupt me because that yarn is expensive but the colorways! I know you understand what I mean because you're a quilter and I imagine you get light-headed just looking at beautiful material and patterns! Hey! Maybe THAT is what caused me to faint!!?! I just got light-headed being around so much yarn!!! Yep! THAT's my story and I'm stickin' to it! ;) :D :dizzy: Donna Faye, you may be typing while I'm typing. If you are...I'll catch ya' later. Just stay dry. I hear the Mississippi has crested and now it will start receding. Just keep on knittin'! Are you a member of ravelry.com? Not a lot of mischief I can get into being inside this house. The worst thing I think can happen is I could lose a stitch while knitting....and I really hate it when that happens! |
Good morning everybody! Another hot day ahead hear, near 90 and sunny so at least it isn't depressingly cloudy and rainy, though that is coming again in a couple days. We are hanging in there though they are now saying it may be awhile before the river goes back down to normal levels, which means Jack will keep working these horrendous hours. Poor guy came home this morning saying the trouble had started keeping up with stuff out there last night so his knees were killing him from being in and out and in and out of the truck a lot, lots of walking etc. He has been upstairs for about an hour so I am sure he is sound asleep. I told him not to even get up until around today as we are having rice and salmon and it is a quick fix.
I am going to say I have lost 10 lbs, it is actually more than that, but because of the heat my feet and legs are swelling again retaining water so when that rights itself I will show another loss I imagine. One thing, we sure don't eat out, there is no time so that isn't a worry though we try to stay as close as we can to program friendly foods. Jack and I are trying as hard as we can to cut out heavy desserts of all kinds. The most we have is either Skinny Cow or WW ice cream treats for dessert in the evening. Gail: Hey, I don't blame you! In this day and age, people think if you have a black eye that somebody beat you up. Yes, they will think what they will, but frankly if it makes you uncomfortable, then stay home until most or all of it is gone. It is sort of like the Lucy episode where Ricky accidently hits her in the eye with a book. Fred and Ethel wouldn't believe them until they told them a juicy story about what happened. That's what folks are like, they want juicy gossip about people. I have seen some absolutely gorgeous hand dyed fingering yarn for $75 a hank so I know the stuff can be really expensive. I keep most of my yarn buying purchases in the mid range. I don't buy the cheap stuff like coats and clarks, but unless it is very, very special, I wouldn't buy the really expensive stuff either. I mean, $75 for a pair of socks, You may not be diabetic, but you could be hypoglycemic, they don't always go along together. I have more problems when my hormones bottom out. I have blood tests all the time for glucose as my mom, brother, sister, nephew are all diabetic. I have great blood sugar levels so I know that when my knees start shaking and such my hormones are on a rampage and the best thing to do is just sit and try to calmly rest until it passes, which it does. My daughter started buying me stuff from Knitpicks for mother's day several years ago so I have a full set of the harmony circs plus she bought me a whole set of the nickel circs and she bought me a whole set of the nickel dpn's. I have all the dpn bamboo needles too, but I do so much better with the nickel. The stitches just slide right off. I think people who knit very loosely should use the bamboo though. I love the Knitpicks products. I haven't bought one yet I didn't like. Kelly bought me the Options circ binder case, which I love as it holds a whole set of circ needles and cables, which I love. She bought me a ball winder for mother's day last year, but I found out you have to have a swift for the thing to work well and I just don't want to fork out nearly $60 for one. Maggie: Will should be here, I doubt wading pools are very popular at the moment so there should be bunches! I am concerned now with our water supply and mosquitos. All this water is going to start a bumper crop of mosquitos, which means the possibility of West Nile again. It is always something. Susan: That quilt is gorgeous and you are right, perfect for your area. I think the big concern is still the rivers up north dumping more water into the MS, which could mean the river rising even more in a week or so. They just don't know and any heavy rains up north will cause problems too. Jean: I have to just say hi to you today. Fortune is barking to go out and won't stop so I have to get out of here before he wakes up Jack. Faye |
Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining after a couple of rain showers. Lots of thunder during the night which woke me up. We set another heat record at 96 yesterday. Today is much cooler, like spring should be, and is supposed to stay that way for the next few days. I've been to get my nails done, have a load in the dryer, and have lunch bunch at noon.
Gail -- I do know how to knit and purl so I can make anything that is square or rectangular. ;) I just can't follow a pattern and have never taken the time to read a "how to do it" book. That's the way I crochet too. :o We have llamas up here and they are becoming more frequent on farms. We even have an alligator farm, but it is on the "qt." The farmer gets rid of his dead pigs by feeding them to the alligators. When the alligators get so big he sells them to a company for shoes, purses, and whatever else they make. Knitpicks sounds like a fun place to shop. "Gma" -- :congrat: on losing 10+#s! :cp: I'm so glad you don't have to worry about the flood water but it is too bad Jack is having to deal with it. I got an email, and Bob said a farmer had also mentioned this, about spraying Listerine to get rid of yard bugs and mosquitoes. We're definitely going to try that at the lake this summer. I need to change clothes and get ready to leave for lunch. Hope you all are busy having a wonderful Wednesday! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Wonderful Wednesday
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
It is raining. Of all things it is raining here in the Heartland. The show and tell event at the local museum was cut short because of it. Will said about 400 kids 3rd through 5th or 6th grade got to go through before it was closed down because of the rain. There were a lot of hands on old time way of doing things which was neat. Old corn shuckers, top makers, doll makers, bow stringers etc. and Will a saddle maker. One boy asked Will where his gun was because he had a holster there he had made and Will told him in was in a safe place. The kid asked Will why he didn't bring it and Will told him because of kids like him. The kid laughed and said he sounded just like his dad. The kids really liked learning, kind of, the 8 strand braiding. A lot of the old timers had to make their own belts and suspenders. They "tried" to learn anyway. One of the teachers is going to have Will fix an expensive purse she has. :p We are said to get some really rain this day. We sure need it. Our garden will love it as long as we don't get any hail. They are having cake and ice cream after bible study this evening and I think I will just drink my coffee. That is my plan for I do want to go to the party for the grads tonight.:p DONNA FAYE That is a chunk to lose! :bravo: you are shrinking. Feels good to go in the right direction doesn't it. The news isn't good for the flooding around your town. Other waters are due to be there. Yep the mosquitoes eggs can last up to 7 years waiting for the river water to rise. You definitely will have a bumper crop of the little critters. Spray with Listerine ~ at least they will have fresh breath. :p But seriously do put some in a sprayer. You sure have a lot of knitting needles. I haven't knitted in so long I didn't realize the wonderful progress in making them existed. I had better upgrade my needles before winter time comes around.:o Of all places Will found a wading pool at the dollar store. JEAN Will loves his new washer and dryer. Have fun with the lunch bunch today. What are you having to eat this day? I bet that farmer sells a lot of his alligators to Texas where they make some beautiful boots. Alligator tans up so nicely. We are all going to go around this summer smelling like mouth wash. :cp: GAIL Sweetie don't be worrying about what it may be until the test results are all in. Then you can deal with it face to face and get it corrected. I got the results from my tests yesterday and I am a couple points low in the sodium departmant. Sodium of all things. I do try to not eat a lot of salt and take a bp pill with a diretic included in it. Aren't we supposed to cut back on salt? But why when a person goes to the hospital do they they hook them up to a sodium drip? Me thinks maybe the salt isn't the culprit after all. I will talk this out with my doc when I go on the 19th ~ next Monday. SUSAN Howdy to you also this day. I need to think about getting some lunch. It is just a tad after 1 o'clock and I am getting a bit hungry. :hun: Type at y'all later. |

It's Thursday morning. The sun is shining and birds are chirping. It's a happy day! I need to go to the grocery store and I have to toughen up and go. Wayne would have gone for me last evening but he's so tired when he comes home from work that I hated asking him. I'm going to just put my eye glasses on with the matching detachable sunglasses that came with them. I know I'm making way too much of this. *sigh* I can do this! I know there is a life lesson in all this.
Donna Faye, congratulations on that chunk of weight that you lost and you will NEVER find again! :) Fantastic! Good job! :bubbles: .....oh WOW! You have a LOT OF STUFF from KnitPicks! I love that website so much! I can spend hours window shopping! When I was at the fair I bought only the size 8 circ tips plus two cables. Yesterday I put in an order for the tips I usually use and another cable. I thought about just buying the whole set because one can never have too many knitting needles ;) , but I was strong and did not buy any yarn. I have a lotta yarn! And my yarn, knitting books, and patterns I've found on the internet are all very well organized. No one in my family is impressed but I bet you would be! :D Jean, most of the stuff I knit is just a flat piece! I can knit socks, hats, and mittens. I am prone to have anxiety attacks so when I'm feeling stressed I will knit on a scarf, a shawl, or a baby blanket or even a dish cloth. Knitting, for me, is about the process; not necessarily the finished object but don't take that wrong I do finish (eventually) my projects! The repetitiveness of knitting calms me down. You NEED to go to the knitpicks website! Now! Maggie, even though it rained it sounds like the event was a success. And the time the children could enjoy I'm sure they learned a lot from Will and the other crafts artisans. I'm not worrying that much about the possibility of having diabetes and I feel the same way as you do--if the doctor finds something wrong in those blood tests then its a good thing and I can deal with it. God is good and He made me a strong woman! :) I love chicken salad! Actually, there isn't much I don't like but I really do like chicken salad and I'm going to jot down the ingredients and buy what I don't have on hand when I drive out to Walmart in a few minutes. Susan, I meant to tell you that quilt you posted the photo of is gorgeous. I hope you had a nice evening and maybe you'll pop in today. Well Magnolias, I'm going to deal with my vanity and head out to Walmart. IF anyone stares at me....I'll just...I'll just tell them, "No...I'm not Angelina Jolie!" (Not that I'm a huge fan of her's because I'm not; she's just the first celebrity name that came to mind.) |
Good morning ladies! It is sticky and warm this morning but thank goodness we are going to have a cooling trend this weekend. Jack went upstairs just a bit ago and is probably already asleep.
Whooeee we had something go on here last night. I sat up and watched the Cubs game on tv and they had a rain delay of about an hour so I sat and paid bills while I waited for it to come back on. The game didn't finish until near 11 pm. I have been sleeping in the recliner, just feels right for the time being and had the back door open since it had cooled down. I had just dozed off and I heard something that woke me up. I thought it was Fortune and he knocked something off so I turned on a light and called him and he came to me, so he was ok. I got up and went through the downstairs to see what had fallen but there was nothing out of place. I decided to go ahead and unload this dishwasher before going back to sleep and finished that and he wanted out. I let him out and was watching him and he had just gone pee when he whipped his head around to the gate and went back to it. I called him back, then I heard a "whoop" like police cars give sometimes on their sirens so I put on a sweater as I was in a nightgown and went out and peered through the slats in the gate. There was a police car parked in front of the garage across from our garage and I saw 4 cops walking into the neighbors house. His garage side door was open, the light was on and there was light on in the house and the gate was open. I kept watching as they peeked in the garage and turned their flashlights on and walked onto Tim's deck. They were in the house about a minute and came back out, down the walk and then the four of them had their flashlights trained on the ground like they were looking for something. One of the cops shined his light right in my eyes so I got "caught" so I opened the gate and walked out and asked if everything was ok. There were at least 7 police cars and about 14-16 cops out there!!! He walked up to me and ask if I had called the police about a shooting!!! I said no, he asked if I heard gunshots and I first said, no then said, I was sorry that I forgot I had heard something about 5 minutes previous that I thought was my dog knocking something off. He asked me how many shots I heard, and I told him I heard one of whatever it was. They stayed out there walking the grounds for at least an hour and I couldn't go back to sleep so I sat up and knitted. I don't know if they found anything, but I just minded my own business and stayed inside after that. Angelina: Ooops, sorry that is Gail, right? I bet you did great at the store. No body would look twice at you in this town, I bet! You gotta look at it this way, at least you weren't one of those Walmart shoppers like they have the email pictures that are going around where you are wearing a short skirt, no undies and bend over, or are a guy in full drag outfit, etc. About the only things I have yet to do are cabling, intarsia, colorwook stuff and lace knitting. Cabling would be a snap I think but the other I am buying a book to see what to do and maybe sometime down the road I will attempt it. When you want to spend the money, invest in the knitpicks options set. It comes with different lengths of cable, I think size 4-10 of cable needles, the "keys" to tighten them and even these buttons that you can screw on the ends and make them straight needles. They have been paid for a dozen times over for me. I straight knit with circs and haven't used straight needles in several years when I am straight knitting. Maggie: I looked at your recipe and thought wow you could make this into an asian chicken salad too but substituting the cajun spice for 5 spice powder and celery for sliced water chestnuts and instead of tomato you could use any number of chinese style veggies. Thanks a lot for the recipe. That's too bad about the kids not all getting to do everything at the museum. I have to say, I cringe everytime I hear "rain" up north now! They told Jack they plan on wrapping the extended hours and such up by a week from tomorrow so he should be home next weekend and then start back to his regular schedule on the 23 if everything goes as planned. Jean: The only way to learn to follow a pattern is by knitting. The more you knit the more you understand. I finally learned how to count rows, to count stitches, to tell a knit stitch from a purl one, etc and it took time to get the hang of all that. You would find it a snap in short order I think, but then you seem to tire of projects fairly quickly from what you have said about all the things started and not finished craftwise at your house. I have beaten my own record I think. I have both fingerless gloves done and have 5 patterns of the scarf finished. I want to go back to my socks though they do take longer. This has been a whiz bang pattern to do and is going really quickly so I will have her gift done fairly soon with plenty of time to make her a cup cozy too. I will post a pic of the set as soon as the scarf is finished. I guess I better go and try and get some rest while Jack is sleeping. I have had about 3 hours of sleep. I am being very low key about my weight loss as I seem to always screw myself up if I talk about it too much. This overnight stuff has helped with that though as I am "sugar" free pretty much and are past the hunger pangs stage too. You gals have a great day today. I am out of here to snooze with the puppy dog. Faye :) |
Good Morning, Flowers! It is cloudy this morning and we had more rain during the night. My orioles are fighting over the hummingbird feeder while their orange one hangs close by. We've got lots of yellow finches right now so I'm hoping they all stick around for the summer. Sometimes we are just a stopping point on their journey further north. :(
Maggie -- It's too bad the rain ended the museum event early. Thanks for sharing your recipe; I'm sure it is delicious. :T I'm glad Will is enjoying his new appliances. Gail -- Unless you go to a small grocery store and see the same employees each time, I doubt anyone will give you a second look. One could drop dead in our WM and the clerks would just step over you and keep on going . . . if there was even one close by. I have so many unfinished projects that I would lose my happy home if I start anything new before I finish an old one. Any time I buy new shoes or new clothes Bob asks what I'm getting rid of. "Gma " -- That kind of excitement you could do without! I wonder if you will ever find out what really happened. One of our lunch bunch ladies was telling that her daughter woke up in the middle of the night hearing someone walking around in her house. She is divorced with two children so is very careful about locking doors and ground windows at night. She checked on the kids who were both asleep in bed, and then went downstairs. She met a drunk who-know-what coming up the basement stairs saying he was looking for the people who lived down there! He wanted her to call someone to give him a ride and she called the police. He said that was ok since they all have cars. It didn't give her name, but I had read about the incident in the local paper. Scary! If I make a mistake when I'm knitting I make a bigger mess trying to tear it out and get the stitches back in order. :hyper: It sounds like you have been knitting up a storm! I'm making a quick run to the grocery store and then work on more clothes sorting. This afternoon I will help set tables for the dessert meeting tonight. I need to get moving! Have a terrific Thursday! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Thankful Thursday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is currently in the high 50's with a chance of showers this afternoon. We can use the showers. We had a visitor last night that wanted to spend the night. The young teen next door was home alone. His dogs that were in the backyard started barking up a storm and he looked out around 10 pm. He called the police because he saw a prowler all dressed in black with a hoodie in his back yard. He also called his parents that were in a neighboring town visiting. We first became aware somehting was up was when we noticed there were a couple patrole cars driving down our alley real slow and shining their lights in our yard. We are the only ones on this block that have a chain link fence out back. All the other houses have tall wooden fences that face the alley. Anyway there was a knock on our front door and there stood a patrol man and our neighbor boy who was visibaly shaking. We were aprised of the situation and asked if he could stay at our house until his folks got home. DUH ~ of course he could. When it came time for us to go to bed we sent him downstairs to sleep on the couch that makes into a bed there. Ragg Mopp went downstairs with him and Beanie stayed with us. I was sound asleep still when he left this morning around 5 am. His mom did not disturb him but just let him sleep the night here when they got home around 1 am. She called him (Will let him take his cell phone with him downstairs) in time for breakfast and school this morning. The kid is 13 but a very young 13 ~ not very mature yet. He is a worker though. Will hires him to pick up trash that the wind blows into our yard and he picks up every little bit. That burgler is the sign of the times getting rough everywhere. Things will get worse before they get better. I saw in Texas someone has stollen a couple thousand dollars worth of gas. This is Will's day to work at the museum so I will be home alone this afternoon. I need to figure out what I am going to cook this day. But, you know me, I will firgure out something to have all ready for when he gets home this evening. Right now he is out in the garden checking things out. Beanie and Ragg Mopp are asleep in the hallway where I can see them. And all is well. Life is good.:p Will just came in and said he has a couple errands to run and will be taking the dogs along since they have been itching to take a ride and it has been too hot for the little guys to be left in the vehicle while he is in the store. But today is cool enough they won't toast. I am serioisly thinking about letting all this glorious red in my hair grow out and see what my natural color is now. I think it is gray in the top and sides and dark in the back. I am toying with the thought of dying it a glorious shade of gray and see how that looks with my skin tones. DONNA FAYE Something is always happening in your neighborhood. I thought of you when we were seeing all the action around here which is rare. That was a hoot your being caught peeking. Nabed by the light. Sure can change that recipe around. I would also use some sesame seeds in it along with the rice and some soy sauce. Oh yes, I will have to try that for sure. GAIL How did your outing go? Bet no one even tripped about your face. That is a good chosen therapy for you ~ the knitting. Not pressureing yourself to get it "done." Just doing it is a good thing and you make some neat things. I had a friend in MT that instead of fabric or yarn she bought lace. She made some neat crafty things using lace. Lots of folks had sweatshirts decorated by lace that she made. She made me a heart shaped pillow filled with potporie (sp) that was about 5 inches across that was gorgeous and smelled divine. I still have it in a langerie drawer. She called it therapy. My glass works is therapy for me. When I am doing glass I don't eat. :p I started this therapy when I was still working and a co-worker guy that was a parole officer said one day ~ "Lets go cut some glass for we both need some therapy." We went to a class together and I still cut glass. JEAN What are you up to this day out in the farm land country. Well, you see I did say something to you today already. I am back now to comment on your comment that you sneeked in here. That is scarey that a drunk got into her house ~ once I had a knock on the door when we lived elsewhere and when I opened it there was a guy on his knees that fell into my house. I told him to leave for this was not his house. He said "Oh I thought my wife locked me out again." He wouldn't get up nor would he budge so I just called the cops that came and removed him out of my doorway. It is worse if they can walk like what happened to that lady. SUSAN Working on that gorgeious quilt are you. ♪ Every picture tells a story, don't it. ♪Rod Stewart ~ I think sang that.♪ Everyone have a lovely day this beautiful day that it is. Type at y'all later. |
Donna Faye, bless your heart! What a scare! However, the police responded quickly! As you were describing the whole thing, I pictured you so well in my head (and I don't even know what you look like! :) ) peering through the slats of the gate. Yes, I went to Walmart and no one paid any attention to me or if they did I didn't see because I wasn't looking at anyone else! I zipped through the store in record time; I just wanted to buy my stuff and get home. I've seen those photos of People of Walmart. My youngest daughter almost submitted a photo of her husband--he went there in his pj bottoms, slippers, and a raggedy coat. Even wearing that, he didn't seem as strange as some I have seen shopping there! Not that he looked all that great but... :o
Hey Jean, you can always knit a dishcloth! Easy. Flat. 9 inches square. Portable. :D AND....you can tell everyone you're going "green". |
Two of you snuck in here while I was typing!
Jean, well...that may be a requirement for people who work at Walmart--just keep movin'! That's about right--same way at my Walmart too. Maggie, everything went well at Walmart. My good friend here let her natural color of hair grow out and she looks beautiful. It's white and silver. Gorgeous. And liberating, she said. She no longer has to worry about coloring her roots anymore. I've told Wayne that when I turn gray (I only have a few strands at my temples) I'm just going to let it come! Right now I still get highlights in my hair...more for added body than anything else. Before I knitted I did counted cross-stitch--same thing--therapy! I've always done something to keep my hands busy. And you're right, can't eat if your hands are working something. And sadly, you're right, burglary is on the rise in neighborhoods now. Every once in awhile I will get a recorded alert phone call from our local police department advising us to be aware. |
Good evening, ladies. Still cool in the 60s with rain for the next 4 days.
Haven't done anything but go to work today and tomorrow I have water aerobics. I'm really missing my weight training and they say it will be another 3 weeks before the remodel is complete and we can get back to normal. Glory is getting better and I won't have to go to her unless she calls for me to do something. It has been a long illness and she'll be a while longer getting back to her old self. Gail, I'd have put a sign on my chest and back saying "Hit in the eye by a metorite!" We have a nice Walmart where I go. Clean, well organized and helpful employees. I buy no produce there because Kroger's is cheaper and lasts longer and they have better variety. I love knitted dishclothes. They are nice to tuck in as an "extra" in gifts, too. Maggie, I feel for that young man. I'd have been scared, too. I quilt because I can't eat at the same time. I don't even like to have things to drink near me. Jean, only a couple of weeks until Memorial Day and then I guess you'll be spending more time at the lake. Won't that be fun! Faye, pull up the police log for Memphis and see what it was about. It is public record. I don't know that I'd know what a shot sounded like. Well, I'm going to turn on the tv for a change and watch Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. Have a great evening. |
Good morning! Not a whole lot goin' on 'round here right now. I'm still in my nightgown and drinking coffee (and typing but not at the same time!).
Not sure what I have planned for today. I need to empty out the walk-in closet and organize it. It gets into such a mess at times things start to pile up into the middle of the floor. This is a chore I keep putting off. Susan, if you ever need a knitted dish cloth or two...or three...just holler and I'll gladly mail you some! Whenever I'm inbetween projects and I don't know what I want to knit dish cloths are my "go to" until I can make up my mind! Anyone wanting a knitted dish cloth send me a message and if you don't have my email address I'll give it to you then you can email your home address and I'll gladly put a couple in the mail to you! Seriously. I just saw something on the news this morning that is disturbing: a mother injecting botox into her 8-year-old daughter! Evidently, this is a common practice among mothers of little girls who enter pageants! Wouldn't this be child abuse? Sometimes...a lot of times I think the world has gone absolutely positively nuts. |
Good morning to you all. Ugh, it is raining here again. We did expect several days of rain and sure enough. It did cool it off a lot and it was kind of weird. I was sleeping and heard some big thunder and lightening strikes so got up and went to the door and looked out. It was raining hard next door and not at our house! I must have stood there 5 minutes before it started moving into our yard. It was really weird.
Today is my eye appt and getting contacts for the year, then I am going to treat myself to getting my nails done, I have to pick up the dogs meds and go to the grocery store. Go to the department store and pick up some more Donna Karan fragance is squeezed out the last bit to wear today. Tonight is Subway night since I have so much running around to do. Gail: Knitpicks has a new cotton yarn called "dishie" they spun specifically for dishcloths. I have thought about getting some and making my own dishcloths but didn't know if they were absorbent or not. They also have some cute free dishcloth patterns there. My put off chore at the moment is filing. I have a huge stack of filing to put away and I keep putting it off, partially because of the way we have the file cabinet. I can only get into it from one side and not in front as it is against a wall. I should have known better I was a file clerk manager for a law firm for 6 years!!! Maggie: I was a bit embarrassed being caught in the act so to speak. I felt like one of those people who is always spying on their neighbors! Poor kid it must have scared him to death. I told my niece that Fortune didn't even bark when the cops were making a ruckus so anyone breaking into the house would get licked to death instead of bitten. :) Fortune is my little pacifist! Jean: Jack said Monday may be his last night now. The river is receding about 6-8 inches a day and they hope it will be back where it is supposed to be by Monday at least for the plant. Jack ate a quick bowl of cereal and he said, "I am goin' to bed." I bet he was asleep when it head hit the pillow. Oh my gosh, wonder how the guy got in? Knowing me, I would be too mad to think about being afraid. Bob is like Jack he notices if I wear something he thinks he hasn't seen before. Speaking of that, might be a nice time for a new bag. I haven't bought one in a real long time. I just wish the swelling in my feet would go down completely. It has gone down a lot since quitting the Norvasc, but the heat has kept some of the swelling. I still can't get on a lot of my sandals and it is sandal weather. Well gals, I need to clean up Jack's breakfast dishes get some makeup on and my hair done and eat a bit of breakfast myself before heading out this morning. I don't know what I am going to see out and about since I haven't been past our grocery store since this all started. Have a great weekend all!! We have the dreaded commissary this weekend if it is even open. I don't know if they got flooded or not. I am going to have to call and find out. Faye |
Good Morning, Flowers! The wind is still blowing and we had rain again during the night. The temperature has dropped a lot -- wind chill is 34  and the furnace just came on! This weather is nuts! I'm tired today! I kept waking up during the night with sore legs from spending time on the cement floor at church yesterday. I need to return church keys this morning and run a couple errands.
Maggie -- It was nice of you to come to aid of your neighbor boy. I felt sorry for him after reading about the prowler in his yard. He was smart to call the police to investigate. I am surprised his parents didn't come right home when called though. It's good that you and Will make sure it is cool enough to leave the dogs in the car. I often see them locked in at WM's lot with just a window cracked and it's HOT. Dumb people! Gail -- What kind of yarn do you use for a dish cloth? That's a good idea! I used to do counted cross stitch but now it's too hard to see at night. I personally think those child beauty pagents are ridiculous! :hyper: Susan -- Enjoy your :swim: today. I hope the weight room gets finished sooner than they anticipate. I'm glad Glory is feeling better. Being sick is so hard on any body. It's hard to believe Memorial Day is just around the corner and the month of May will have flown by. "Gma" -- It sounds like you have a busy day of errands planned. Enjoy getting your nails done -- what color are they? I looked at purses when we were in Sioux Falls but didn't see anything I liked. I like pockets on the outside, not too big nor too little, and a zipper in the middle so everything doesn't fall out if it tips over. ;) I hope your swelling goes down; I can tell it's more humid because my rings get tight towards evening. I need to get dressed, put my house back together, and get going. I feel like I spent most of the day at church yesterday; being hostess is hard work! Have a fantastic Friday and enjoy! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
FINALLY FRIENDLY FRIDAY ~ The 13th
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
Burr it is chilly here today on Friday the 13th. 48 degrees, cooudy and windy. I can hear it blowing and it is blowing hard. I think this house leaks because it makes my eyes itchey. OH my ~ the heater come on because it is is now switched over from air. Couple days we use the air then now the heater. Today I am just not having any gumption to do anything but get warm. :p I have lunch and dinner planned out so that is done. Our fridge ice maker is acting up so the fix it man is due any minute to check it out. Got to have ice. The fridge man was here and there is nothing wrong with the fridge. Has to do with the valve downstairs that is a bit corroded which can be replaced by a plumber - or Will. The water flow to the ice maker was being restricetd thus little ice was being made. DONNA FAYE You wouldn't know how to act living here for it is so quiet at night.;) Not much excitement out here on the planes. I didn't think it rained like that except out in CA. It is weird when it happens though. You are getting some treats today ~ enjoy! JEAN You are tired today and I have the blahs which I think is due to the change in weather. Standing on concrete floors can really do a number on a persons legs. for you last night. You know, I wouldn't leave a kid in a hot car so why leave a dog that way eigher. GAIL I would love some of your dishcloths. I think you have my address ~ if not let me know. Have you thought anymore about getting a puppy? I am not a fan of those folks that parade their little children like that. Let a child be a child for they grow up so fast anyway. And to inject that into her daughters body ~ outrageous to put it mildly. Those folks certainly have a different mind set than the main stream of society. SUSAN That's too bad that the remodeling won't be ready for awhile. I know that must really mess with your regular routine. Do you have any weights at home that you can be using in the meantime to kinda compensate? All y'all have a wonderful Friday the 13th and stay safe. |
Good evening, ladies! Raining and 64 degrees. In fact, it's rain for the next 5 days. I find it depressing.
There is supposed to be an air show at Langley today, tomorrow and Sunday. They did get some in today. I hope it clears long enough for them to get through the next 2 days. I am fortunate in that I can sit upstairs in my bedroom and see a lot of it right out my window. I did my water aerobics this morning, then went to Walmart to pick up a few items. Gail, I'd love some dishcloths. I'll PM you my address. Thanks! That mother injecting Botox into her child needs to have the child taken away from her. Maggie, it's quiet where I live, too. I love it. I do have 5 pound weights at home but at the Y I lift 65 pounds and the 5 pounders are like a feather. I can go to the Y in Hampton, Williamsburg, or Newport News, but they are crowded with the men from our Y. Jean, I hope your legs are feeling better. Faye, ever find anything out about what happened the other night? I know Fortune will be glad to have Jack back on schedule! Have a good evening. |
Gail -- I would have to have a dish cloth! Then I could make my own and use your's for a pattern. ;) I'll send you my address.
Maggie -- The wind is still blowing strong and the wind chill is 38 right now. This evening we stopped to look at a pick up and the salesman (who is Jason's age and was in the same graduating class) came out and asked if we'd had a nice summer . . . all two days of it! :lol3: I hope your ice maker is fixed asap. We don't have one; I guess because there wasn't one when we moved in and I thought I could make my own. There was an Iowa mom who left her baby in the car and forgot about her. The husband normally took the baby to daycare but for some reason couldn't that day. The mom was some top executive and had work things on her mind never giving the baby a second thought. She found the baby at the end of her work day dead in the car seat. She was convicted of child endangerment and some degree of manslaughter but was put on probation rather than in jail. It was a sad, sad story. Susan -- What fun to be able to watch the air show in the comfort of your bedroom. :) I also find gloomy, rainy, windy days depressing. Sunshine makes such a huge difference even if the temperture is cooler. So far today my legs have not ached. I'm keeping my :crossed: for bedtime. I think I will take Tylenol before I go to bed as a precaution. The furnace just came on again; I was looking forward to some days without the furnace or air conditioner running. Have a nice weekend! |
