Finally Friendly Friday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is a foggy day here in the Heartland in the 40's so a bit chilly. Today I am going to make a recipe out of my new cookbook which is called "Crock-Pot Fake-Baked Beans" which makes a 3/4 cup serving for 4 P+. Along with it I will serve some of that good ham that is resting in the freezer and some veggie and fruit. Sounds like a plan doesn't it. I'll opt for the shorter cooking time since I will be here which is 3-4 hours on high. I can put it in the pot and have it turned on by 2 oclock and it will be ready for a nice dinner.:D I think the next recipe out of that book I try will be the "Cheeseburger Mashed Potato Parfaits." 4p+ a serving. The recipe makes 4 servings but is easy to cut down to 2 servings. I am going to do my walk-about when I finish here. I am adding more laps as I go with this. I do it best when the dogs are outside for little Beanie loves to frolick along with me and get rignt in front of me and I certainly don't want to step on him and trip and hurt him in the process.:( He is such a little ball of energy and so cute at it. DONNA FAYE Hope all is well with Jacks exam. See you when you get back. :p JEAN Yep those huge water drops do distort the camera lens. I probably won't get any good pictures this day. You know, my favorite picture, so far of all of the chicks, is that one where the first one that hatched had his little chin resting on one of the eggs that was not yet hatched. That one I named "baby oh so full." We didn't have any room in the kitchen for our freezer so have it on one wall of the dining room. Along that same wall is also a glass front book case with the rotisserie sitting on the top of it. Inside the case are the things that go with the rotisserie and other appliances and table cloths and napkins and such. There is still room for our large oval oak table to be in that room which we have the leaves out and will sit 6 comfortably as it sits. There are two nice windows in that room for which I am looking for curtins to go over the blinds. Plus, as I have said, we want a ceiling fan in that room. Yikes, I do go on. Too hip gotta go now. Type at y'all later. |
We are back home safe and sound. Jack's procedure went fine. He found one tiny polyp and removed it, but because Jack did have a polyp he has to go back in 5 years instead of 10. He had a rough time with the laxative though. It worked very very harshly on him and he had multiple accidents, poor thing and was still going when we left the house at 6:30 am and that was 15 hours out. I usually stop around 7-8 hours after taking my first dose. Now he has to deal for a bit with the gas. They pump air into your colon to see properly so you have gas for awhile. He is also very tired because he was up all night with the stuff so he will rest today and the weekend.
I am really tired too since everytime he turned on the light or raced to the bathroom he woke me up. We finally came downstairs and got into the recliners together. I am going to take a nap and do some laundry and that is it. It is warm and humid today and is supposed to be near 90 tomorrow which should be fun. I wanted to clean house, but not with 90 degree temps and the ac not being able to turn it on. I will talk to you gals tomorrow. Have a wonderful day and weekend. Faye |
Back To Yack
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
I have all the points+ information in my Hungry Girl cookbooks now. What is neat is on her website she has them all figured out and listed which made it quick and easy to get the information. Just thought you might like this recipe I got out of the new Hungry Girl book. CROCK-POT FAKE BAKED BEANS Place in crock-pot: one 15-oz can black beans, drained and rinsed one 15-oz can pinto beans, drained and rinsed one 15-oz can kidney beans, drained and rinsed 3 cups chopped onion 2 cups chopped bell pepper 1 apple ~ pealed, cored and chopped Mix together then pour over the above and mix in: 6 oz tomato paste ¼ cup molasses 2T vinegar 1T mustard 1 tsp garlic, chopped ½ tsp salt Cook on high 3-4 hours or Cook on low 7-8 hours Makes 10 servings of ¾ cup each Points Plus = 4 DONNA FAYE Glad to see you made it home safely and Jack only had one polyp. It would be better to have none but one is good. Those meds treat folks so differently and the way it treated him is sad. Rest easy and we will see what you have to say tomorrow. :p |
Maggie -- The sun has come out and not a cloud in sight! Your dinner menu sounds good and thank you for sharing the recipe. We are having steak and salad per Bob's request. :T He will grill so that is easy. I just checked on the eagles and the adult was feeding two "greedy" little ones. I'm assuming the third one was asleep or else not hungry.
"Gma" -- I'm glad Jack is hopefully catching up on some sleep. It's good they found the polyp now. I am surprised that he doesn't have to go back for 5 years. Here they want a recheck in 3 years. Bob's turn is next spring. Neither one of us had any trouble with the prep but mine was different and they don't use that one any more. I hope you were able to get a nap this afternoon! |
Good morning gals! We are having some hot hot weather this weekend and with the ac on the fritz it is pretty steamy at our house. The main problem is I have no idea what it will cost to fix the darn thing and though we are pretty sure what it is and won't be a total replacement, which we absolutely cannot afford, I do need to have enough money to have it worked on. I can't see any sense having the guy come out and give us an estimate than it be more expensive than I can afford and have to pay for a service call and then have him come back out again. We will just suck it up until the end of the month and then have him come out. We just have to get through this hot weekend, which is unusual even for us in this part of the year. By Monday I think the temps are supposed to be back to normal. Today is going to be 88 and the humidity is already awful here. We slept downstairs in the recliners with our big fans going, the ceiling fan going and the door open after the temp got below 80. Jack hates the door being open, but the coolness of outside comes right in. The house is decent at the moment, but I expect in an hour or so the temps will start to rise fairly quickly as it never got below around 77 last night.
Maggie: Their instructions had Jack taking 2 ducolax at 3 pm then we had to buy a bottle of Miralax and mix it with a half gallon of Gatorade. He had to drink 8 oz every 15 minutes starting at 5 pm. Nothing started happening until around 8 then he had a time of it. He had several accidents and a couple in his sleep even. I never had that trouble and I went through the process three times. He is right as rain now and he took a good long nap yesterday and slept off the meds they give to put you to sleep. Jean: They recommend 5 years if any issues that aren't serious, 10 years if no issues at all. I haven't had one yet as frankly with going through all the stuff I did, I have to work up to another round of laxatives and such. I am just thankful Tricare pays for it because I found out a lot of insurance companies won't pay for it. Jack was in and out less than an hour, well the procedure and such was only about 15 minutes and then around 15 to make sure the gassiness was passing properly and such, but then the doctor was late rolling in. He was a real character, young, had on cowboy boots, jeans, a scruffy black non shaven face. Jack said he was very personable though. Well, Jack is back so I need to go. Have a good day all! Faye |
Good Morning, Flowers! It's a foggy damp morning in my corner of the world. I've been searching for something "springy" to wear to the birthday party this afternoon but finally gave up. I can find the top but not the slacks to match. GRRRR! I know they are here somewhere!
"Gma" -- Boy it is hot in your corner of the world! :flame: I hope you are able to stay comfortable with the fans. I remember years ago it was 90+ degrees and our air conditioner was blowing warm air; it was on a weekend of course. It had a freon leak so was easy for the repairman to fix. I hope your's is an easy fix too. It's interesting to see how other areas do things -- the last part of our prep was to be done by 4 pm. Neither one of us had to get up during the night. I feel for Jack, and glad he is back to 100% now. I think I have 4 more years before I have to go back for #2. The "needs a shave look" must be the in thing as I've seen lots of guys like that. All the doctors are getting younger! ;) I need to put my face on and clear off the kitchen island . . . again before lunch. Have a great day and remember to smile! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Sunny Saturday
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
What a lovely sunny day in the high 80's here in the Heartland. Will got the fencing around the garden plot and Beanie was so upset because he couldn't get in there. Good. Don't need a dog digging up our plants. Our blackberry plants look good and maybe this year we can get some berries. I have a couple of boneless pork chops out to thaw which I will bake with some Au Gratin potatoes for dinnner. We have some delicious green grapes that will go good along with a green salad and green beans. I didn't eat lunch until around 2 o'clock so we can have dinner late. AH ~ feels like spring is here. The folks who tore our lawn up when they did the roof have delivered Will a nice truckload of good looking soil which will go on the garden. I got a kick out of what happened a few minutes ago when I checked on the eagles. The mom called for relief and when dad got there he just stood back and looked at the sleeping chicks. When one raised it's head ~ dad got some meat to feed it. Poor little thing was still sleepy and was having food shoved at it. DONNA FAYE I certainly hope that you can get your air fixed without having to shell out big bucks. It is so nice here today we have windows open and loving the fresh air. JEAN You will find those slacks when you are looking for something else I imagine.:p Have fun at that birthday party. Too hip gotta go ~ Type at y'all later  |
Good morning to you ladies. It is already heating up here this morning or maybe I should say it stayed warm over night and is jumping on the back of the upper 70's and running! It is supposed to be mid 80's today but down to upper 60's tomorrow. I think there are a wide path of tornadic storms coming at all of us and should reach here between today and Tuesday sometime.
I will be glad for cooler temps so I can get some housework done. I haven't done anything this weekend. Except play games on the computer, read and listen to music. Too hot to do anything else. I am surprised the humidity has already started up for the year though. Today is my son and dil's anniversary and the sister I made the striped socks for birthday. My son took my dil to Chicago for their anniversary to a concert. From the Facebook post, sounds like they had a good time. Maggie: I read an article yesterday in the SBT. Let me preface it by saying, when I worked at the law firm in SB, the office building we were in downtown had a terrible time with pigeons pooing all over the roof and stuff and as nasty as it is, the stuff is like acid and will destroy buildings I guess. Anyway, they put some kind of sound machine up there to keep them off the roof, and low and behold, they moved next door to the county/city building. Well, in the article it talked about a family of raptors, (in this case a hawk) taking up resident, but someone had filmed the male recently and he is missing a foot on his right leg. It went on to say how bad this was because their claws are how they get food. They said it could have happened from a rat trap or someone trying to trap and injure the bird or another trap it got into. Another thing it caused was that the female is not laying eggs, how those two things are connected they did not say. :) I just hope it doesn't cause the poor bird problems. Jean: Did you find your pants? I need to clean out closets and pitch again. I also have to find a new solution for my shoes. My big shoe bag that I hung in the extra bedroom closet broke and there are shoes and handbags everywhere because when it broke it knocked off a bunch of bags I had hanging on the door to the closet. What a mess, thank goodness no one goes in there and Thomas could care less when he stays here. I just finished a decent book on my Iphone. It was called "Diary of a Fat Girl" but had not one thing to do about her weight except she would mention it on and off when she referred to her clothes or whatever. I thought it would be funny as people who reviewed it said it was, but overall it wasn't, but that didn't make it a good read. I guess I am used to Evanovich's humor and hers is laugh out loud funny. Maybe because her character Grandma Mazur is my mother! I think I could write a novel and use my mom as a character and it would be a total hoot. She was one crazy lady for sure. Well you gals have a real nice Sunday. Jack and I are going to just wait the heat out until tomorrow. Faye |
Good morning ladies! Going to be in the 60s today and the sun is shinning. 80s tomorrow.
I'm so glad its Sunday and I have a day to not work. I signed up for the WW 5K and am working on increasing my pace. I don't want to be the last one to finish. I maintained yesterday and with being at retreat, that's what I had planned for so I am happy. Faye, today is my Dad's birthday, too. He'd have been 95. I hope it cools off in Memphis until you can get your ac fixed. Have a great day! |
Good Afternoon, Flowers! When I left for church this morning, at 7:20, it was just cloudy and quite warm. After we practiced I went back to the car to get my water bottle and the sun was shining! When we left church at 9:45 it was very foggy and the wind has come up again. Talk about crazy weather! :dizzy: Last night we drove home in rain, hail, and strong winds that switched from the south to the north part way home. That was a little unnerving! Once we got home the wind quit all of a sudden and it got deathly quiet. A tornado went through a small town southwest of us causing major damage but no deaths were reported. Bob has had several phone calls relating to farm damage south of us. He was going to stop by the office to check policy coverages, return phone calls, and go take pictures. I've got laundry to do.
Maggie -- It was very warm and humid here early yesterday afternoon when we left. When we got to Sioux Falls it was 20 degrees cooler and actually cold. Back home again it was very warm. I'm wondering if this will be the weather pattern for the summer months. :spin: The Des Moines Register has another article about the eagles today; it tells about the video set up and shows a picture of the camera by the nest. It looks pretty close -- too close to the nest for anyone to go near it. "Gma" -- I gave up looking for my slacks when I didn't find them right away. I thought I had hung them with the top (that would be a novel idea!) but I didn't so will have to search a bit more. Last year we had a black bird that had no foot. He would use the leg w/o the foot to balance when he would eat. We haven't seen him this year. We also have a squirrel who is going bald and he looks plain silly. I feel sorry for him. Susan -- :congrat: on the maintain! You did very well considering you were gone for the retreat. Good luck training for the WW 5K. I wouldn't mind doing it but would like to do it with someone else. Since it is the laundry lady's day off (ha ha) I guess I should get it started. I know I have the never ending pile of ironing I could work on. Enjoy the rest of the day! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Sunny Warm Sunday
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
It is a nice sunny 68 degree day here in the Heartland. I remembered I have an outfit of cream colored pair of linnen pants and a jacket that matches. So I wore that with a lime green shell underneath. The jacket is light weight and one of those that has a tie on the left shoulder and a tie on the right middle side to close it if you want. It also has one button in the front middle to just keep it casually closed and just let the tie strings dangle. Hard to explain but it is fashionable and neat looking for I get lots of compliments on it. It all fit me much looser than the last time I wore it and was still in a cleaners bag. If I plan on shrinking some more I need to wear it more often to get some use out of it. The jacket is loose so can be worn a long time and, well, I may be able to take the pants up a bit. I have worn it with a black shell and black pants for a totally different look. I need to look some more in that closet for other outfits for summer. I do need a new pair of black pants and a few new white blouses. Mine are getting just too sloppy looking and will make good garden work shirts. I found a nice sun hat I want to get to wear when I go out walking this year. I saw it in a magazine and looked the company up on line and can order it with no shipping. Sounds like a deal to me and it is only 13 dollars. Yikes ~ I just looked at my calendar and realize that I have an appointment to have a mameogram on Monday at 10:30 am. Duh, that's tomorrow. DONNA FAYE I sure hope you don't have a tornado hit your area. A lot of birds loose their feet when they walk in strong chemicals. What ever it was that the govt made CA use to fertilize the lawns at work ate lots of black birds feet. What they used to use didn't hurt the birds at all but it was outlawed by some dummies in govt that didn't know what they were talking about. JEAN I am glad that tornado didn't get any closer to you. Yep, that is the calm before the storm you experienced. The eagles are in wind today so strong that tree is swaying. Not a good picture taking day for the babies are all plasterd close to the nest. I thought about you when I found my linnen outfit in the back of my closet in it's cleaners bag.:p SUSAN :cp: :bravo: On your plan to maintain and you did. It is always the hardest it seems to do that when you are at a long several days function. We will be rooting for you on that WW 5K ~ you go girl. Surely you won't be last. Type at y'all later. Have a lovely afternoon and evening this day. |
