April One

GOOD EVENING MAGNOLIAS

It was such a lovely day we left at noon and didn't get back until just after four. Went for a nice drive to our favorite jerky place and picked up some plus some cheese and sausages. The dogs rode along without a fuss. I took half the jerkey and weighed it out in one ounce 2P+ servings and placed them in a small baggies. Gave the rest to Will and he can eat it as he wishes and I will know exactly what I am putting in my choppers. I like to eat it with a freshly pealed orange as a good snack. I have been checking on the eagles off and on all day and still no babies have hatched. Maybe during the night but I will just have to find that out tomorrow. There are certainly a lot of folks watching those eagles. I am so glad Baseball season is upon us. My Dodgers won their first game last evening against that team I won't say but it is spelled Giants. That is my most unfavorite team. Arch enemies with the true blue Dodger fans.;) We love watching the boys of summer. I have been to a lot of games in my lifetime especially since Will was a Nationally Certified Umpire. He umped insturctional leagues not the big guys like are in the "bigs." We did coach a young teens team for a few years which was a real joy. We took a young team that hadn't won more than 3 games a whole season ever and turned them into champions. After that year we lost most of the players for they had gotten too old and started over with the newbies. Well we made champions out of the newbies also. It was such a neat thing working with them. Will never did once raise his voice at any of the boys. He quietly taught them the basics and when they asked him a rule he would say, "Look it up." They would high tail it to the dougout where I was sitting and ask me what rule number such and such was. I handed him the rule book and said, "Look it up." The kid would sit down next to me and read the rule and with a big smile on his face would run out to where Will was and tell him that he looked it up and what it said.

DONNA FAYE Yep meat prices are getting very high and will get higher as the talking heads say. Thanks for that recipe ~ looks yummy. I wear mostly plain blouses just different colors also. My jewelry is all real that I wear. That is why I will be wearing that jacket thingie to get my hair cut in. :p It will be my hair cut outfit.

JEAN Isn't it fun to watch those Eagles. Maybe we will wake up to a baby in the nest. I keep taking pictures of the 3 eggs when they rearange them and still no baby.:p I like those pictures that show the mom or pops feet in them. They sure are knarley looking. Hope your tooth isn't giving you fits. I'll be making more of my own yogurt now that Wall*Mart no longer carries it. I liked buying the WW brand because besides being good I always had coupons. I imagine more and more folks will be using their coupons now that food proces are going up. I don't know if you have to take off your glasses here now or not. When I got my last license they would have taken my pictue with my shades on. But I took them off.

SUSAN & Gail Have a lovely eveing.

Maggie -- I still can't get into the eagle site and it is making me    !!! :tantrum: I didn't have time to call the tech guy when I got home this afternoon so will have to first thing on Monday. When I was in the grocery store today, an older lady was looking at the coffee and remarked that she guessed she would stop drinking coffee. The price was $10.99! I just bought some for $6.99 a week ago and thought that was bad. Our gas jumped another 10 cents to $3.55 today. My tooth is not a bit sore now, nor was it ever. That was my argument for not pulling it because it didn't hurt. But now that there seems to be a serious infection that makes it a different predicament.

It's that time of night -- heading off to watch the news and then bed. Hope you all have a good nights sleep!

gma22 04-02-2011 07:45 AM

Good morning to you all. Jack has his eye appt in a few hours then a trip to Target to get some things I can't get at the commissary. Tomorrow we will brave the commissary and get groceries for another couple weeks and on Monday get me a new ID card. Mine expires tomorrow and though it it valid until midnight on Sunday, I hope I don't get any grief about it, nor on Monday when we go through the gate. You used to be able to go through a base gate anywhere as long as you had a sticker on your windshield, but those days are long gone with what the country has been through in the last decade. Everything is closed up pretty tight.

Maggie: Hope you enjoyed your trip. Don't you leave in the next week or so for Texas? Cubbies lost yesterday, mainly because the pitcher had one bad inning and gave up a grand slam. There are 161 more games though. I read an article this morning where a mob of Dodger fans beat up three Giant's fans in the Dodger parking lot after the game, so badly one guy is in critical condition. Too much booze and too many big mouths is my opinion on it.

Jean: Our gas jumped too and Jack says he figures by Dec it will be around $4.25. I read an article a couple days ago that gas is 8 pounds a gallon in Brittain, which makes it around $14 a gallon! It is absolutely ridiculous for gas prices to be like this. They just stick it to people because they can.

Had one of those tough nights sleeping. I slept soundly until around 2 then gave it up and came downstairs and watched tv until around 5 and then went back to sleep in the chair only to be woken up by a crash. Jack had knocked the long shelf that is above our bed off and everything that was on it. So, I am a bit woozy this morning, but it will get better.

Time to get the day started and get things going. Have a great Saturday all. Faye

Good Morning, Flowers! The sun was shining brightly but the clouds are moving in so now it's kind of hazy. We have a chance of rain today. I have a load of laundry washing and need to vacuum. It is definitely getting closer to spring, with the sun shining in the large front window all the individual cat hairs show up big time. :dizzy:

"Gma" -- It's a good thing the military bases have tight security but I'm sure the "bad" guys could get in if they really wanted to. It's the "good" guys who have to put up with the policy changes in the end. I hope you don't have a problem getting your ID. Yesterday an older lady was looking at coffee in the grocery store and said she said she wouldn't be drinking coffee any more. It has gone up to $10.99! :yikes: I just bought some a couple of weeks ago and it was $7.99 on sale for $6.99. I just wonder where, when, or if this will ever stop. There is a limit as to what people can spend when they aren't getting raises in pay. Bob said he thought he'd keep working. I hope nothing on the shelf got broken or that Jack got conked on the head when the shelf fell. I hope you get a nap this afternoon. ;)

My washer is done so need to start another load. Hope you all have a super Saturday and do something you want to do for you! :D

Sunny Saturday

GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS

I have been checkin' in on the Eagles periodically and got some cute pictures of one of the hatchlings. :cp: Now the sight is off line for I don't know how long. I figured they were having difficulty because the focus was in and out for awhile. So far 6,869,495 have been watching those birds. Quite a happening. We are getting our plans set for leaving Monday. It is really going to be a short trip for we are coming back on Wednesday. ;) Prices are going up on lots of products now but the fast food prices are competing with each other and it is almost cheaper (maybe is cheaper) to eat there than to cook at home now. I am going to crock pot a roast tomorrow and make sandwiches to take along our trip with leftovers. Not much else happening around here this day.

DONNA FAYE Yep one used to be able to drive on base with just a car sticker. Now you better have an ID and have business on the base. When I was still in high school I used to get on the base my father worked at by driving his car with a sticker on it. The MPs always told him when he went to work Monday that they saw me down at the Admirals beach on the base such and such a time. One of my best friends was the Admiral's daughter and we would go swimming at that beach. Nothing was a secret from my father. Those MP's always sniched me off.:p

JEAN I will keep my fingers :crossed: that you can get on the eagles site soon. Maybe it just went off in your area sooner than in my area for it is off here now. It doesn't say when it expects to be back on.:( Lots of folks are sad like we are that we can't watch them. Can't they clear up that infection without taking the tooth out since you are feeling no pain?

Time for me to think about getting some lunch around here.

Jean 04-02-2011 09:16 PM

Maggie -- I have been watching the eagles off and on all afternoon. I really appreciate your pictures and have forwarded some on to others who can't get into the site. This tooth of mine has at least a 31 year history . . . 2 root canals because it had 3 roots and a crown. My current dentist said she could push on the gum and it would drain starting in Feb., '08. As long as it didn't hurt I didn't want it pulled but now there is a major infection, that could travel to my heart and cause more problems. The other thing would be if the infection would eat away at the jaw bone I would really have trouble then. After searching the internet, there is a periodontist in Sioux City and also one in Ft. Dodge. The website talks about CTs and x-rays I've never heard of plus a lot of wait time in between the different parts of the process. None of it sounds overly exciting to me. :stars: Maybe since the eagle's eggs were laid a few days apart the last one will hatch after you get back from your trip.

gma22 04-03-2011 04:13 AM

{{{Yawn}}} Good morning to you ladies. I got up to go to the bathroom and Fortune jumped off the bed wanting to go out so I came downstairs and decided to stay up when I couldn't go back to sleep. I didn't go to bed until near 11 as Jack sat up and watched the UConn/Kentucky game and yahoo sent that crummy coach Calipari back home. He is not my favorite person having been the coach at Memphis U year before last, lying to everyone about talking to Kentucky, then saying he wasn't leaving when he had already signed a contract with Kentucky, then the worst, he actually moved out of town in the middle of the night!!!! On top of that, he is a cheat and has been in questionable practices at each school he coached at so not a fan of is!

Today is commissary day and I am out of everything so it will be a long shopping session and poor Jack dragging it all into the condo, then I get to put it all away, ugh!

Jack had his eye appt yesterday and all went well except for the wait because she got behind. We really like her so when the other optometrist left between last year and this and she was the head honcho and she took our records, we decided to stay put and glad we did. Dr Redding is a really nice young gal and a good eye doctor. I got a deal on his contacts online too so all in all it was a pretty good day for Jack and his eyes!

Maggie: I imagine there are a lot of people disappointed with not being able to see the hatchlings and stuff is the camera situation is not cleared up. You and Will have a safe trip to Texas and back and have a good time.

Jean: I think I would get the infection cleared up and say just pulled the darn thing and have it done with. It sounds like all the work she did on it was for naught and that the tooth little by little decayed anyway so I would bet it is to the point where it can't be saved. Since everything fell onto the bed, nothing got broken on the shelf, but I haven't put it back up yet. I will get that done today and I have clothes to put away upstairs too.

I think I am going to go back to bed. Have a lovely Sunday all. Faye

Jean 04-03-2011 11:20 PM

Good Evening, Flowers! We just got home after leaving about 9 this morning. We went to church with Beth, out for brunch, and then headed to Sioux Falls to pick up Maddy and Kolby who spent the weekend up there. We ate supper at Jason's and headed back to SC, then home. It's been a long day and lots of miles on the road. It was terribly windy so not a nice day to be outside.

"Gma" -- I hope you were able to get through the commissary trip in a timely manner. I know how much you hate going there. Glad Jack had a good eye exam. Bob goes tomorrow and wants me to help him pick out frames. He is thinking of going back to contacts and then get reading glasses. The bifocal part of his current glasses aren't adjusted right for using the computer and he bought cheater glasses at WM to use instead. I plan to call the dentist tomorrow. I found, online, a periodontist in Fort Dodge and two in Sioux City. Both places are about an hour away driving time. The FD one has worked on a lady who lives here, and she really liked him. Baby eagle #2 hatched today. The web cam came back on yesterday afternoon.

Maggie -- Have a fun trip!

Tomorrow is church first, help Bob pick out new glass frames, and a meeting in the afternoon. I am tired and heading to bed. Have a marvelous Monday! :D

Jean -- from Iowa!

gma22 04-04-2011 07:37 AM

Good morning to you all. We are going to be heading out to the base in about half an hour to get my new ID card. I hope I don't look too sleepy in the picture!

The commissary was very busy yesterday and we had to stand in line to check out. It was kind of nuts, but Jack told me to go out to the car he would get checked out and unloaded so I did. Nothing much I could do anyway. We came home and hauled it all in and put it away, had a bite of lunch and watched the Cubs lose at the end of the game. The bullpen did us in.

Jean: Has Bob considered bifocal contacts? They are more expensive but Jack and I both love ours and it took nothing to get used to them. You don't notice the difference at all except you can see everything close up and far away. I am at the top for bifocals though so if my close up vision gets any worse they won't be able to give me anything stronger. I have worn glasses since I was 10 and have pretty bad distance vision. My Kelly is up in Vancouver for the next week or so on business so I imagine she is freezing to death while we are baking here at the moment. I have to wait until the end of the month to have the ac fixed and it was pretty warm here yesterday and will be cooler today I think.

Well gals, I need to finish beautifying myself then get going out to the base. Have a good start to your week. Faye

Jean 04-04-2011 06:31 PM

Good Afternoon, Flowers! I have been gone most of the day and now I am home alone. Bob is at practice and then has a meeting at church so I have no clue when I will see him again. We had a "big" money day at church; a lot of people pay their pledges once a month, there was a special World Day of Prayer offering, the friendship offering from communion, and the rest of the odds 'n ends that people will give to at the beginning of the month. Of course it didn't balance the first time so made me late getting started. I had a meeting this afternoon then met Bob thinking he wanted help picking out new glass frames. He decided to use his old ones and go back to wearing contacts. I don't think he will like keeping track of reading glasses so we'll see.

"Gma" -- Bob has some astigmatism so I don't know if bifocal contacts would work for him. I didn't like them but I wear hard lenses. They would tend to spin and be in the wrong place when I really need to see up close. How did the ID picture taking go? A good thing to cross off your list.

Maggie -- Hope you are having a fun trip!

Susan -- How was the retreat?

Gail -- Where are you?

Gloria -- Haven't heard from you for a long time!

Tomorrow morning is my time to work in the gift shop and I need to call the dentist to visit with her a bit more about my "prize" tooth. I hope you all enjoy a nice evening. For once there are several choices on tv to watch! :D

Jean -- from Iowa!
