Susan: All you can say about them is EXQUISITE!!!!! If I were the judge, my first place would have been Port of Cassis. That was my favorite, but they are all just gorgeous in so many different ways. I especially love the ones with lots of color.
Jean: Now you see why Fortune is so spoiled! You should see that face when his little tongue is hanging out it is just adorable. Jack owes me a present! Socks are finished and in the washer!!!!!! :carrot: Now let's see, what should I buy, more yarn, maybe or I know a new HANDBAG!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D |
Susan -- Thank you for sharing the quilt website with us. I am going to forward it on to my "sister." They are absolutely beautiful! Even though I don't quilt I can appreciate the hours of work and talent they represent.
"Gma" -- Jack should know better than to bet with you on a knitting project. You haven't had a new handbag for awhile, I vote for that! |

Good morning ladies. I have no idea how early Kelly will bring the dog this morning. We have to pick them up at 2 pm for the airport so I imagine it will be around 8-9 or so as I imagine she is in a rush to get things done today. So, I got up early to straighten things up and get going.
Here are my sister's socks, but they need some fine tuning to make them pretty. I had to use my Iphone as I don't have a photo program at the moment that is compatible with this computer. I sure miss my old one. I am just going to get her a gift card to Target to go along with it as I know she likes Target and that way I can be sure there is a particular store out there that may not be here. I bought her a handbag, but when it arrived it was way too big and I laid it aside to send it back, but kept forgetting so it is mine now. I may change it out and use it and make it my "sock" gift from Jack. I am not much of a straw bag gal, but this has great bright colors and I need something springy to get me out of the winter gloom around here lately. You gals have a great Saturday. I am going to get these socks washed and blocked and ready to go. Faye Other than the dog coming and the kids leaving on their vacation, not much going on at our house. I was teasing Jack last night about finishing the socks but he wasn't taking the bait. He was pretty tired last night as he had a bad night sleeping the night before. Anytime he goes to bed at 9 on a Friday night you know he is tired. |
Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is playing hide 'n seek while the wind is blowing big time. :fr: Bob said the house creaked and groaned during the night, but I managed to sleep through it. He hears the paper being put in the door at 4:30 am; I never do. Bob's at a telecast workshop for church this morning. Not his idea of a fun morning but the pastor caught him in a weak moment. I'm going to the grocery store in a few minutes, and then return library books.
"Gma" -- Thanks for sharing the pictures; they came through just fine. The socks are really pretty; this is probably a stupid question but did you have to change colors each time or is that just the way the yarn "works?" The handbag (love the bright colors) doesn't look that big in the picture, did you order it online or find it in a store? It will be interesting to see if Fortune shares his new loveseat spot with Marty. ;) I am dressed but need to put on my face :) and head out. Have a GREAT weekend! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Sunny Saturday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is a bright sunshiney day with a temp of 47 here in the Heartland. And all is well. Not much going on in this little burg this day. Ragg Mopp is asleep on the couch and Beanie is out back. Will is out there putting stakes in the ground around our garden plot. He will then hang chicken wire around on them to make a fence to keep the dogs and rabbits out. And here I sit with not much to say. We do have plans to BBQ outdoors this day and that is definitely going to hasten Spring along.:p I mentioned doing a stir fry and Will quickly said "Lets BBQ." He has to be careful and not eat too many veggies ~ he might decide he really likes them. :o I will make a big salad to eat with the steak along with a baked potato. I have chives to snip and some sour cream left from the crock pot meat dish I made during the week. I checked in with the eagles before I went to bed last night and the wind was sure blowing and that tree was swaying a bit. SUSAN What absolutely delightfuly artful wonderful quilts. Thanks so much for sharing that web site. There are some real talented folks out there and I couldn't decide just which was my favorite for there was so much eye candy there. I did a lot of my oooos and aaaahs and would you look at that. Reminded me a lot of a friend of ours in Texas that has hung many of her prize winning works around the town in different shops and even in the dentists office. Such a neat thing to do. While out there years back I was at the dentists office and looking at the wall in the waiting room and realizing I was looking at one of our friends works. What fun. Those white on white ones are very elegant for bed coverings. My sis made one and tatted and knotted all over it in a nice pattern and it was absolutely the most gorgeous piece of work. White on white. I made one once with a herd of elephants on it and it was a hoot. But that was before I started cutting glass. Now they have quilt patters to make with glass. DONNA FAYE What a darling picture of your little one. I have seen some really neat bags ladies are toting about these days. They have gotten huge and the pendilum will swing back and we will all be totting little envelope bags about. I still stick with my Dooney Bourke all weather leather bag which is always in style.:p Those sox are very nice and I thank you for sharing them. So your gonna be dog setting. I am sure you are very appreciated for that service for it is a bit of a trauma for a dog to be put in a kennel. JEAN Sound sleeper are you. I am also. I wouldn't like to be awake with every sound around here. Once I get to sleep I want to stay there.:D And when I wake up I want to ease into the world nice and easy. Perhaps Bob will learn something useful at that meeting. One can always hope that is the case. Have a lovely Saturday my Magnolia friends. |
The sun was out for quite awhile and has disappeared again. :( The wind is still blowing pretty hard. I noticed the eagle finally turned around so the wind isn't ruffling his/her feathers. He/she was tucking pieces of the nest closer to its body.
Maggie -- I was thinking about grilling something for supper but not sure the grill would stay lit in this wind. Bob could do it in the garage and leave the door open. Grilling is a sure sign of warmer weather around here. I learned something today! :cheer: I've never heard of Dooney Bourke :o so looked for them online. It looks like they have a nice selection of handbags. I don't like the great big ones because everything seems to get jumbled together. Mine isn't too big with divided sections and pockets so I can keep it reasonably organized. When Bob came home all he said was that this lay leader "job" could turn into a full time job if he wanted it to. When he agreed to do it, the pastor didn't tell him all the details (it's new so maybe he didn't know either) so he kind of feel like he's been "had." The powers to be want the church lay leaders to be very active on most of the church committees and church functions. Bob ushers, sings, and keeps the organ glitches fixed as well as attending three of the committee meetings now. |
Eagle Update
EAGLE REPORT
JEAN I checked in on the eagles and at @ 12:50 there was a changing of the guard and the one sitting on the nest now I believe is the female for it is a bit larger bird than the other one. The three eggs are still being rotated around. I love to check in periodically. I have noticed they change regularly and last night the male kept swaking until the female came back to relieve him. He made a quick scoot out of that nest before she got situated.:p |
Something To Ponder
GOOD LATE EVENING MAGNOLIAS
Just kinda checking in before I finish my evening chores before turning in. Here is something for you to ponder: Headlines say: "The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis nearly 4 inches." Have a wonderful Day that the Lord hath made tomorrow. Don't forget to set your clocks forward an hour. Nighters ~ |
Good morning to you all! It is fairly pleasant out this morning and I turned the furnace back off. I am hoping we are done with it for the season, but it looks like we may have a big problem with the ac. Jack turned it on and the fan is rattling big time so we will have to get someone in here and look at it before the weather gets really warm. The thing is really old so I am hoping we don't have to replace it because there is no money to do that. It is always something that's for sure.
Jean: I am a big purse kind of gal, but my bags need to have organizational pockets and such to keep things where I need them. This straw one won't be used a lot as it is summery and I am not a huge fan of straw. They don't hold up well, but since I was stuck with it and none of the rest of my family carries big bags I have to sacrifice myself.....;) We are gonna have to haul the grill out and start grilling. It had been cold so I bought stuff to make chili so I may make that today even though it isn't cold outside. I do like a good bowl of chili and for me that would be anytime of year. As for the socks, it is not stupid question, I get it all the time, but no, I didn't have to use several colors, it is a self striping yarn. Kelly was funny yesterday when she brought the dog. The socks I made her were in a bag of stuff she left in the car when she went with us to Indiana. She took them out and rubbed them on her face and just oohed and aaahed about the color. I imagine they will get worn to work when she gets back into town. Maggie: It is one of the bags I don't own because I think they are way too expensive for canvas bags just because they have that DB all over them. They are very pretty bags, but I am not going to spend $200 for a canvas bag ever. I hate Coach bags. I have yet to find one I think is attractive. I have a black Barr and Barr bag that Jack calls my doctor bag because that is what it looks like the old fashioned doctor's bag. It is one of my favorites to carry. Whenever I look at the eagles they seem to be sleeping. My kids and company are probably on their way to Miami this morning or will be shortly. They flew into W Palm Beach because the tickets to Miami were $100 more expensive apiece and they had 5 tickets. Kelly said they rented a van for $100 and instead of $1000, it only will cost them $200 for the van coming and going. She said the hotel for last night and next Sunday was a lot cheaper in W Palm Beach than in Miami too. Thomas was his laid back self when I asked him if he was excited, he just said, "yah." Well gals I am going to go. Have a wonderful Sunday all. Faye |
Sunny Cold Sunday
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
Just got back from eating out Chinese after chruch services. I, of course, checked the eagles and got there just in time to see the nesting one calling for her replacement and then leave the nest. A minute later the other one, I think it was the male, arrived. I captured another picture of the empty nest and all three eggs are still in it. I'll check back in an hour or two and maybe get to see the changing of the guard again. A friend of mine has been watching a hummingbird nest and the eggs just hatched yesterday. I asked her to send me that link. I don't sit and watch them but check in periodically and then get some neat photos of them coming or leaving or such. DONNA FAYE My DB bag is all black leather with tan trim and a long shoulder strap and a handle and only has the logo in one place above the front buckle. I have had it for so many years I don't think they even make it anymore. I believe Will paid $250 for it way back then. Well ~ he made big bucks being a "child behavior specialist for the state of CA" and could afford it then.:p It is laid out nice inside with compartments and even a place for my gun.:D Yep it is a real nice bag. I'll send you some of the pictures that I captured of the eagles. Howdy to all other Magnolias  |
Good Afternoon, Flowers! It's another cloudy cold day in my neighborhood. We played bells for 2nd service so felt like the day was half gone by the time we got home again. I've read the papers and Bob beat me at 3/3 games of gin rummy. I should do some more laundry but feel like a nap is in order.
"Gma" -- I don't remember what they are called :dunno: and I have seen two different styles: one is long and can be "shaped" while the other is more of a rectangle box shape. There are many different sized pockets and it's designed to fit in the bottom of an open handbag that doesn't have pockets. I didn't realize there were so many different brands of handbags. Since we are rural it's usually in Penneys, Sears, or Younkers that I am able shop. Maggie -- We haven't had Chinese food in a long time. That sounds good. :T I just checked on the eagle; he/she is awake but not doing anything. Susan -- What are you up to this weekend? :bubbles: I do need to get something done this afternoon. Enjoy the rest of your day! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Good morning to you all. It is trying to rain here. Well, it is raining, but not much. We are at Mississippi flood level and there is a concern that by tomorrow it will go over it's banks. Flood level is 33 feet and it is at 32.5. They said it will probably reach 34 by Wednesday. All that melting snow up north is coming down through the tributaries into the river. I imagine Tom Lee park downtown will be under water at least partially by tomorrow sometime since it sits right next to the river.
Jean: I have seen those little organizers that go inside bags, do you like them? I often wondered if women liked them or thought they were a nuisance. Bummer you lost all three games. I am a gin rummy player though have only played on my Iphone ap with a bear called "Bubbles." She stinks cause I beat her all the time. I don't know all the ins and outs of playing that game, especially the "knock" part where you still have like 2 pairs in your hand without the third card but can go out. Jack is not a gin rummy player, but loves cribbage. I try not to play cards and such with him as he is a shark! He has mellowed in his old age, but when he was younger he absolutely could not stand to lose and got ugly when he did. I had to put him in his place a few times and then told him no one would be playing with him anymore until he grew up! That was way back in his 20's though. Maggie: We had Chinese on Saturday, but mine wasn't very good this time. Jack always gets shrimp fried rice and egg roll and never changes what he eats at that place. I wander around the menu so to speak. I saw on facebook that Kelly said they are in Nassau about an hour ago. Hope their weather is better than ours here. Marty is doing fine here. I am so glad he feels comfortable at our house. My only concern is him eating. I keep an eye on his bowl, but it doesn't look like he is eating much. Because of his heart condition he is on strict food regiments and can't have canned food at all because of the sodium. He won't eat the low sodium stuff much, but they keep trying to get him to eat it. She has kept him on what he normally eats and just tries to get him to eat some of the low sodium stuff. If worse comes to worse and I see no emptying of his food bowl, I will add a little something about a tsp of something and stir it around and see if he will chow down then. That way he isn't harmed but he is eating. I guess I should get out of here. I need to shower and dress and put away clothes from the basket upstairs and make the bed and unload the dishwasher and such. I have to return the rental car this afternoon and Jack will pick my up from the rental place. I sure wish I had known we could have had the car back in a day as I wouldn't have rented it for a whole week. I originally did it for 3 days but found it cost more for 3 days then if I took it for a whole week so I took it for a whole week. It wouldn't be bad in cost if it weren't for the zingers they add at the tax line. Sheesh, they add charges for everything but your underwear! :^: I got the car for something like $125 for the week, but with the tax and all the other things they tack on, it ended up being $229! We have been perusing Las Vegas stuff about possibly vacationing there again next year and I looked at the same rental company and in Vegas they charge you per day for their car licensing!!!!! I think it is $1.25 a day for the car license fee. It is just ridiculous, but Jack says that states do that so they can stick it to tourists and get tax money without the residents of the state being up in arms about their taxes being raised. You gals have a great Monday. I am off to do chores then sit and knit. I have my girlfriends sock up to the decreases at the heel and onto the foot. Faye |
Moody Monday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is a sunny 34 degree day here so far in the Heartland and still ~ no wind. We ended going out for dinner last evening after church and went to Applebees. I had one of their new WW meals for 8 points. 10 skewered grilled shrimp over white rice and a salad of baby spinach leaves with little bits of pineapple and other fruit as a dressing. Quite tasty and I will have it again if they still have it on the menu. They change menus quite often and as they change so do the WW meals. Will ate one of their ga-zillian points burgers which looked so good.:p I will have to look it up on Dotties site to figure the points for WW doesn't have A-Bees in their booklet. The dogs are at the groomer and it sure is quiet in the neighborhood today. I have a piece of steak thawed which I need to find a recipe to use it in today. Maybe a salad with steak fingers would be good. I showed a "maintain" at weigh in this morning. I was due for I have a history of losing a couple weeks then show a maintain so this one isn't going to throw me off track for sure. A maintain shouldn't but sometimes it does mess with ones head when you know you have had a good week. I know ~ A maintain is so much better than a gain. I'll just keep on keepin' on.:o Will didn't fare so well for he showed a bit of a gain. Gotta be that wonderful burger he had! ;) DONNA FAYE They sure did get your car fixed quickly. They must have gotten right on it. Poor little Marty. Some pets just know what they want and don't understand that it is not always good for them and turn up their noses on what is good for them. I think folks are like that also.:p Aren't we. "Eat this, it is good for you." Yep I can hear that in the back of my head. But I love veggies and my mom never had to tell me to eat them. My brothers didn't care for them though. I am the only fat one in my family ~ I have my great aunties genes. I wish she hadn't given them to me. :p Those are my Texas genes. JEAN, SUSAN & GAIL  I think I will go check on the eagles and see if anything is happening. Type at y'all later |
Good Afternoon, Flowers! After a gloomy morning with a few snow flakes the sun has come out of hiding. It isn't much warmer but the sun makes it look warmer. I went to church early because the treasurer was gone yesterday so the money was locked in the church office rather than at the bank, where we have to wait until 8 to pick it up. The secretary did her magic to make it all come out right so my part was easy. :cp: I need to address a couple of church birthday cards and run an errand this afternoon.
"Gma" -- I don't have one of those purse organizers but a friend of mine does and she really likes it. I don't know how to play gin rummy where you knock when you have a pair. We play 3 of a kind or a run in the same suit of 3+ cards. If someone gins they get the other one's points that they can't lay down plus 20. First one to 100 wins the game. I hope you can get Marty to eat. :crossed: It seems like any tourist area will add a tax to anything and everything. Maggie -- I was surprised that Applebee's is not in the WW dining out book. There are a lot of restaurants that are listed which are no where near us. :( I would be happy with a maintain these days. This week has been "so - so" and better than last week. The eagles just had a changing of the guard -- "she" squawked for quite a while and then left the nest before "he" showed up. He wasn't smiling! Susan -- We missed your bright and shining face this weekend! Hope you are having a :swim: :exercise: kind of day. I need to get my cards out in the mailbox before the mailman comes. Enjoy the rest of your day! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Good afternoon, ladies! A lovely spring day. Trees and flowers are blooming and it won't be long before the grass needs cut.
I went to applique bee this morning. We have such fun. I maintained at WW on Saturday. My leader asked me to think about being a receptionist. They are in need of some. I still have 1.6 before I'm back at goal so I'll have time to think about it. Jean, I never have been much of a card player other than Canasta and Solitair's many variations. I love to play Maj Jong. Faye, I once had one of those purse organizers and I liked it a lot. I'd buy another if I could find them. I've down sized purses until I hardly carry more than my wallet, phone, and emergency inhaler most days. Those rental car fees are ridiculous! I know the socks will be done in no time. I asked my friend today if she ever finished the socks I had helped her with and she told me she put the toes on the wrong end so tore the sock all out. I have no idea what that even means. Tomorrow is a long day of both jobs. Have a good evening. |
