Good Morning, Flowers! It's another cloudy gloomy day in my neighborhood. We are right on the edge of the storm moving in so we could either get nothing, a little bit, or a lot. I really don't think the weathermen know either! :dunno: I haven't talked to Beth this morning, but Kolby has type A and B flu with a 104.6 temp at the doctor's office yesterday. It is full blown at school; I didn't know that it has to run its course if you don't get on meds within so many hours of coming down with the fever. Kolby was lucky in that he got the prescription.
Maggie -- :congrat: on the GREAT 3# loss! :cp: You're doing something right so keep doing it! The # soup sounds good; it's definitely still soup weather here too. I need to keep sorting and pitching so I can have some empty drawers too. "Gma" -- I hope the dealership can find what is wrong with the transmission as the turn signal is an easy fix. You and Susan talk about "green" and flowers coming up while Maggie and I sit in snow. Not fair!! Is Thomas on spring break now? I've forgotten where you said they were cruising to, but that sounds like fun. I have the never ending pile of ironing waiting for me, so I'd better get a move on. My kitchen counters are clean and the dishwasher is doing its job. :goodvibes: Have a terrific Tuesday! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |

Yeah! Just heard from the dealership and there is a seal in transmission that has to be replaced. It is covered under powertrain warranty which is 5 yr and 60000 miles so no deductible. We went and had them replace bulb though so Jack wouldn't have to get down on knees and with sore back so we came out of it about 60$ ahead! :carrot:
Jean: Poor Kolby! I am sure Beth is stressed out with him being sick too poor thing. Thomas spring break is next week and they are going to St Thomas and that route this time. I am sure he will enjoy it. I hope his Pops enjoys it too and doesn't have too much trouble walking. I know they get him a wheelchair, but just walking around the ship can be a long walk since most of the newer ships are like 2-3 football fields long. I am starting a second pair of quick socks as my sister's birthday is April 10 but we are going to see her on the 19th over in Arkansas since Larry is going to fly in to see his mom over their daughter's college spring break which is same as T's. Unfortunately since we will have Marty we can't spend the weekend over there, but will get up real early on Sat and drive over and spend the day and drive back. It is only about 4 hours. I haven't seen her since Christmas of 2009 so am looking forward to seeing them and Larry's mom is like a second mother to Jack since he used to hitch hike with Larry when they were first in the military together from Memphis to his house on the weekends. They are good people and I always thought of her as my aunt because her mother was my step grandmother and the only one I ever knew since my biological grandmother died before I was born. Oh and the socks are something new. I am going to make her a pair of pedicure socks. (here is a picture of the pattern) She gets pedicures all the time and I thought they would be neat for cooler months to go get her pedicures in. Have a good one gals |
Titilating Tuesday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is snowing as I type. Started sometime during the night. The dentist office called yesterday and said they may have to cancel our cleaning appointment today depending if the emplyoees can get in to work or not. Some live way out in the countryside. The appointment is at one ~ so we shall see. I went ahead and did my hair down in a pixie style and not swept up in the back because it always gets messed up in that dental chair anyway. This way I will be ready for my cleaning if they are.:p I hope it isn't cancelled for I do so look forward to going. Ragg Mopp doesn't like going out in this weather like Beany does. I hear the screen door open and shut and know "there went Beanie." Guess we need a "doggy door" on that entrance since he would go and come back in when he wants. As it is he can just go ~ then knock to get one of us to let him back in. He stays out for long periods of time. He is such a little charmer. I just munched on a 2 p+ blueberry ceral bar to go with my morning coffee and it was yummy. Now I will need to brush my teeth again. :p I think after the dentist we will go to I-Hop. DONNA FAYE There is certainly no hurry on your knitting sox for me. I already spent my months allowance for this month and will order the yarn later and have it shipped to you.;) If you also need my leg measurements I will email them to you also. But we can deal with all that later. My goodness there are lots of places on line to get yarn. That will certainly be nice for you to see your sister. Pedicure sox ~ what a neat idea and the recepient will like that. I like those to wear with my sandals. JEAN Our snow isn't as heavy as they said it would be and it is not a blizzard either. My "Peal a Pound Soup" has cabbage, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, etc ~ and lots of spices and is zero points+. It is tasty also.:o If I want I can always add some one point+ meatballs that I keep a supply of in the freezer. It is a cozy way to eat my veggies for sure.:p I eat ocasionally in the warmer months if I have some in my freezer but mostly in the cold months. When our garden is ripe I prefer to have my veggies raw or just lighly steamed or baked, depending what it is. Here I am talking about eating the bounty out of our garden and it isn't even planted yet. I do so want it to be spring. I guess after we get back from our little vacation we can get to going on setting up the garden area in earnest. SUSAN & GAIL Where art thou these days. I miss your chatter. To hip gotta go. I have some things I need to get done before we head out to the dentist. Will gets his teeth cleaned today also. We go every 6 months. Have a great day all y'all. |
"Gma" -- You really lucked out on the car repair! :cheer: Beth said Kolby's temp is hanging at 100-101, so no school tomorrow either. He has to be 24 hours w/o a fever in order to go back. The pedicure socks are cute!
Maggie -- I hope you were able to get into the dentist to get your pearly whites cleaned. ;) Like I said, Faye and Susan talk about seeing green and flowers coming up while you and I are sitting in snow. Not fair! |
Back To Yack
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
JEAN Both of us got good checkups and got our teeth cleaned. So we go again in September for another checkup & cleaning. The snow isn't at all as they predicted and they are saying we will be hammered tonight. I did see some of the bulb flowers peeking up about 2 inches in the bed by the front door. ;) So that is a start of spring growth there. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day this day. |
Good morning ladies. I took the trash out about 4 am and it is wet, but balmy. It is supposed to be sunny today and warmer. It rained pretty much all day yesterday.
Well, Jack has arthritis in his hand and nothing can be done about it pretty much. He gave him a better brace to wear and a shot of cortizone, which Jack said really hurt. He told Jack from time to time he would have to have a shot of cortizone when the pain gets really bad, but he doesn't like to prescribe it or other stuff long term. He goes tomorrow to get his knee MRI'd. Dr thinks it looks like the other one, but is leaning towards injecting a gel into the knee for cushioning instead of surgery. I would bet that the gel procedure is more expensive and since his knee was OJI, the city wouldn't cover it only surgery. He then goes back to the dr next Wed to talk about what the dr wants to do. His appt was 12:30, we were there at 11:45 because they wanted us there at 12:00 and the doctor does surgery on Tuesdays and was running late. Jack got out around 3:15! When he went back into the dr's office I went out in the car and sat and listened to the radio and knitted. Jack says I can't get both socks for my sister done before we leave next week and I am totally up for the challenge. He is positive I won't get them done, but the first one, which I started at the doctor's office I am now at the heel decreases so pretty much only have the foot to knit and then cast off and sew a big toe hole. Hah! I will show him! Jean: I hope Kolby is moving back into the normal temp range and is feeling better. Once something starts in a school it seems to catch on like wild fire. Maggie: Whenever you want to buy the yarn is ok with me. Like I said, I have some projects ahead of you so no hurry since you aren't in a hurry either. Everyone else, have a great day. I am going back to knitting then after Jack goes to work, go back to sleep in the recliner. I didn't get into bed until midnight and got up at 3 am so am a bit dopey feeling this morning. Faye |
Good Morning, Flowers! Another gloomy windy day in my neighborhood. :spin: Bob had to use the snow blower this morning because the snow is wet and heavy; we must not have gotten 2" because the plows haven't been by here. I have lunch bunch this noon and bell practice at 5. In between I need to make a couple errand stops and keep working on the ironing pile. I get mad at myself for letting it pile up -- I'll be glad when Bob is back in short sleeved shirts because they don't take as long. :cp:
"Gma" -- You were up early today! I hope the cortizone shot will help Jack's hand. Bob's dad used to get them in his shoulder and always said it helped a lot. It will be interesting to see what they want to do about his knee. I feel for you both for the long wait at the doctor's office. Kolby's temp was still slightly up last night, but I haven't checked with them this morning. Beth put a couple pictures of him on Facebook and he is a bedraggled sad looking little boy. She said the flu "test" really hurts so she knew just how he felt. Good luck with the sock project! You can do it! :cheer: I need to pick up the kitchen and figure out something to wear this noon. Have a wonderful Wednesday . . . the week is on the downside! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Happy Humpday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is a bright :sunny: day today but in the 30’s. I am back from having blood drawn to check my thyroid since the doc changed my meds to a lower dose last month. We shall see for they have to call in a new prescription for me since I am out of pills because she didn't give me any refills on the order last time. They will call it into Wall*Mart and next prescription they can call it into my mail order place. I sure like the nurse that draws the blood for I can't even feel the needle slide in. I have a wonderful easy to get to vein which helps in the process. We stopped at Mc D's for breakfast and we hadn't been there in a very long time. It was a treat ~ I like their breakfast burritos which are 8P+ each but worth it. We usually always have stopped at a Mc D's on the way out of town when we travel somewhere. That's the happenings this morning. It is chilly out but all our snow that was in the yard has all melted. We are supposed to get some :rain: soon ~ we do need the moisture. I am going to do something with that pork tenderloin this day for dinner. This is Wednesday so we have bible study tonight. My right eye has been itching for a couple days and it is doing just that ~ itching. Will’s did that a couple weeks ago for a few days so I guess it may be something in the air. But it only got one eye which is a good thing. I try my best to keep my fingers out of it. I did wash it out with some eye moistener drops and that helped for a little while. It’s an allergy of some sort. I got up too early today. I don’t know why in the world I had such an early appointment this morning. :stars: I just got three coupons in the mail from Heinz for WW products with a nice thank you saying they enjoy hearing from their customers and hope I will continue. The food saver folks also sent me a clever little food saver bag opener with a magnet on the back so I can keep it handy on the freezer door to zip open a bag. It also has their 800 number on it and their .com address so ~ what a neat little advertisement goodie that works for something. DONNA FAYE Jack doesn’t realize just how fast you can knit and have those fingers flying. Did the doc give Jack a prescription for his hand for arthritis? Or just the shot. What an awful place to get arthritis. No place is good but especially in ones hands. The doc told me I could only have 10 for I think of those shots in my back and no more so there is a limit of how many shots a person is allowed, at least back then there was a limit. Will was told recently he could only have 3 in his knee so I guess it just depends on the dosage and such as to where it is in your body. JEAN I am so glad that we wear mostly wash and wear which looks great now days for they have improved the fabric so much. We have a perfectly good ironing board and iron but neither of us hardly ever uses it. I have a small board I use when I sew and a small steam iron used for sewing but that is for that and traveling. We always take along a small travel steam iron when we travel ~ just in case. You know how things get rumpled when you travel and we always want to look nice when we attend chruch "out there." It is so good that little boys temp is down some which shows he is on the down side of it all. Poor little guy I really feel for him. Kids are so pitiful when they are sick. I think if I was a peditrition I would be crying all the time.:( Everyone have a lovely afternoon. Type at y'all later. |
Good afternoon, ladies! Only 50 degrees today.
I went to water aerobics this morning and this afternoon I'll be sewing my blocks for my bee next month. Maggie, don't you do the new program? There is no 0 point soup anymore. All vegetables and fruits have to be counted when combined so even the WW Garden Vegetable soup is now 1 point per cup. I think that is better because people ate more than 1 cup at a time and still counted 0 and those calories do add up. Actually, WW says that is the way the recipe calculator is supposed to work. Only in uncombined, naked state are fruits and vegetables 0 points. I'm sorry you are having more snow! The garden center is getting ready to open here. I can't wait to put in my summer flowers. Jean, you are getting to be quite the accountant! It's balancing every time for you now. And more snow for you! I'm sending warm thoughts your way. Faye, hooray for a covered car repair! I love those socks. What a nice idea. Toeless socks and fingerless gloves - what a combination. Not good for Jean and Maggie, though. I've got arthritis in that thumb I dislocated and one finger. Not a good feeling. Poor Jack. My boss gets those gel shots in his knees. He needs replacements but they can only do it once and he's too young. He's gotten along good with having them periodically. I try to avoid surgery at all costs. Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. Since giving up sweets isn't that hard for me, I have decided to give up red meat and coffee and to put all my change at the end of the day in a container for the special collection we have the 3rd Thursday of the month for our food pantry (that's in addition to my regular donation). Well, quilting is calling - have a great day. |
Good Recipe
GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
After having that yummy breakfast from McD's I decided to dig up a recipe of my own and thought I would share it with y'all since I updated the points value. BREAKFAST BURITTOS SERVES: 4 Pico de gallo: 1 1/2 cups chopped tomato (about 1 large) 1/2 cup chopped green onions 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon black pepper Dash of crushed red pepper Burritos: 1/4 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 4 eggs, lightly beaten Dash of ground red pepper Cooking spray 1/4 cup chopped onion 1 (2-ounce) can diced green chilis 4 (6-inch) corn tortillas 1/2 cup (2 ounces) shredded colby-Jack cheese Preparation 1. To prepare pico de gallo, combine first 7 ingredients in a small bowl. 2. To prepare the burritos, combine chopped fresh oregano and the next 4 ingredients (through the ground red pepper) in a small bowl, stirring well with a whisk. 3. Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Coat the pan with cooking spray. Add egg mixture, 1/4 cup onion, and green chilis to the pan. Cook for 3 minutes or until eggs are set, stirring frequently. Remove pan from heat; stir egg mixture well. 4. Heat the corn tortillas according to package directions. Maggie -- I hope your eye is feeling better tonight. It's strange that only one eye is affected if you are allergic to something. I've been looking for corn beef that comes in a can like Spam. I finally emailed both local grocery store headquarters asking why it is no longer available. One store manager called and said that in December there was a recall because of bad meat (not Hormel) coming in from South America. The company decided to pull the cans rather than take a chance, and that it would be back on the shelves eventually. I was surprised I heard back from a real live person. :twirly: Kolby is feeling lots better today; I sent a text to his dad who stayed home with him today. Will said Kolby came close to beating him in a game of chess. Thank you for sharing the burrito recipe with us. Bob would ask where I hid the sausage.
Susan -- Do you put your quilt blocks with others to make a whole quilt? I have forgotten what you did last year. You are all set for Lent! My mom kiddingly gave up smoking (she didn't smoke in the first place) and I always think of that each year. :) We have coin folders for an extra Lenten offering as well as a special Easter offering in addition to the regular one. I'm going to head for bed and read for awhile. I don't know why but I'm extra tired tonight. |
Good Morning, Flowers! It's another gloomy morning with fog in my neighborhood. The weatherman promised sunshine this afternoon so he'd better be right! :crossed: These continuous gloomy days are the pits. I've got WW at noon be it good, bad, or ugly. This hasn't been a good week. I have a few piles to sort through and need to keep working on my "to do" list. I was going to start a new thread but thought it would end up being a duplicate so passed.
I need to get dressed and get moving. Have a nice day and remember to smile! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Good morning, ladies! Rain but 67 degrees and the daffodils and narcissus are blooming. Spring is here!
I have both jobs today so this will be short. Jean, my bee is swapping blocks for 11 months and we get 11 blocks each month so there will be enough for a quilt when we are done swapping. Have a great day! |
