Wow, I read an article this morning where the stores and restaurants in Tunica has lost 80% of their revenue because of the casinos being closed. I guess besides the tourists and such who go to the casinos, their are about 8-10 thousand employees that are not coming into stores and such. Most business have cut hours and laid off workers. I know that before the casinos were built 15 years or so ago, Tunica county was the poorest county in the nation.
I got everything I wanted to do done, but boy my feet hurt when I got home, more from the soles of my sandals than anything else. The swelling I have had in my feet have dried my feet out so badly. I try to keep up with it and use this great peppermint cream Gold Bond foot cream, but I didn't do it yesterday and I paid for it.
Today is pot roast, carrots and potato day since it is going to be nice and cool. Instead of pan drippings, I used ff beef broth and make a nice gravy with it.
I had to chuckle at a post of facebook of a gal I met on a knitting page there recently. We have hit it off so I messaged her my recipe for the sopapilla cheesecake. I told her beware that once people got a taste of it, there would be none left. She said she made it for Mother's Day and it was phenomenal and she gave it to a friend who made it and got the same compliments so I guess sort of like an email you send to someone and then they send and on and on, my dessert is going to carry on around the country!
Well, not my dessert, have to give credit to some lady in the little local newspaper where my bil's mom lives. It would put 2 lbs on you looking at it though and you could only cut the calories so far with this or it would change how it would taste.Woohoo my yarn and stuff should be here next week sometime. I am about 1/3 done with my dil's scarf so should get it done about the time I get in my new stash. I ended up getting 12 skeins of yarn and a book on knitting with colors. Thank you Kelly!!! I bought this gorgeous handpainted yarn for the boys for their socks for Christmas called Tree Fort. I am pairing it with a forest green color. It has dark greens and a tan and some lighter greens, just beautiful. You will get a giggle out of me. I am such a lamebrain. I looked at the pattern I printed off for the cup cozys to see how much yarn it took and it had the chart laid out at the bottom to follow to make the pattern on the cozy. You do 4 rounds of stockinette stitch, then the pattern then 4 rounds of stockinette stitch at the bottom. So, it is 29 rows, which means I could probably make multiple cozys out of one skein and it would be a quick knit. I looked at it and said to myself "wait a minute they put the chart on backwards!" Well duh, Donna, most people are right handed so, no it isn't backwards YOU ARE!
No wonder I have never done work that used a chart. It always confused me and now I know why, I have to read it backwards because I am left handed! Sheesh!Jean: Hope your legs are feeling better. That is probably part of my problem yesterday is walking all over Walmarts, then Krogers, etc. I used to do cross stitch until it was difficult to see the stitches and I gave it up. Knitting is much more enjoyable to me that needlework was I think, though I did love doing it. I made the most adorable little pillow for Kelly when she was around 4-5. The back was this beautiful burgundy color with little pink and white flowers in it and the front side had a cross stitched fairy on it with a poem and a little pocket sewn on in the fabric from the back. It was a tooth fairy pillow. We never once lost money or teeth. The fairy always knew right where to go.
We had the same issue here except it was a man who left his baby in the backseat. He was actually an asst pastor at a church. When he discovered his mistake it was about 2 hours later and the baby was already dead because of the heat in the car. Poor man is in prison right now convicted of the same thing as the Iowa woman and having to live with what happened on top of that. He too was not used to taking the baby to day care. We had a funny incident happen years ago way back when Jay was about 2. One of the sweetest couples in the world, they were the youth directors at our church in California, had this adorable baby boy. They showed up to church on Sunday without him. They get out of the car, I saw someone walk up to them, say something then they got into this ferocious argument in the church parking lot. Well, the baby was back at their apartment and they were screaming at each other, "I thought you put him in the car, no it was you who said you were going to do it, etc" back and forth and they went tearing out of the parking lot. That was before carseats and he was sitting in his little carrier waiting for them when they got back home all smiles.
Gail: I think once I get my projects done with my current stash, I will order some of that dishie yarn and make some dishcloths. I am about ready for some and frankly they cost an arm and a leg if they aren't cheap quality. Why buy crappy ones that all apart the first time they are washed and I wash my a lot because of germs and odors and such even though I don't wash dishes anymore. Glad your trip to WM went ok. I was thinking of you when I went yesterday. My eye dr and my nail tech are both in Walmart so while I was in there I did some people watching just to see how people were dressed and such. I think if people actually paid attention to other people they would be shocked. I was. I rarely pay any attention to anyone when I am shopping just want to get it done, but after your injuries and trip, I decided to look at people more. Whooeee I got an eyeful that's for sure and it was in the daytime around 11 am. I hate to think how they go in there late at night. I saw pj's slippers, barely covering the body clothing, ripped clothing showing body parts they shouldn't, and on and on.
I saw that botox thing and there was such an uproar about her being on GMA and telling people that social services are getting into the act. I find children's pageant shows dispicable. JonBenet Ramsey was a huge pageant little girl and look what happened to her. You would have thought that would have made people sit up and think twice about parading their little girls out on stage like Playboy bunnies or runway models or something. I mean the things they do to those girls, wax their eyebrows and bodies, dye their hair, give them things to wear over their teeth to make them look perfect, makeup up the wazoo, dressing so short they almost show their panties and on and on. On top of that, 99% of these girls are total little brats from being pampered and given in to by their parents. It is disgusting.Maggie: I agree if you do something with your hands you can't eat unless you put it down. Knitting is definitely not a one handed craft. We rarely take Fortune anywhere with us if we have to leave him in the car. We have trouble with them stealing dogs here. They get into the car take the dog and sell them to laboratories. They do that with lost dogs or strays too. I guess they have some no questions asked places which is revolting.
Susan: I never could find any info on what went on here. I looked at the police site but didn't find anything relating to the police logs. You used to be able to go to the air shows for free, but they charge you now so Jack and I quit going. Besides, you seen them once they pretty much do the same thing over and over again, but the Blue Angels are pretty amazing that's for sure.
Well, gals, it is 4:30 so am going to catch a few winks before Jack gets home. I imagine I will start cleaning the downstairs today while he is asleep except for the vacuuming, which I can do tonight. Tomorrow is shot with commissary day, but then Monday I can work on the upstairs in the evening or wait until Wed I guess.
Have a great Saturday all! Faye

I'm sure he is happy too. Your pot roast dinner sounds good; I think we are having chicken on the grill. Bob is off running errands and buying more bird/squirrel food. He is going to try and fix a section of grout in my kitchen floor as it is cracked and a little chunk is missing. I try not to go to WM on weekends or late afternoon because of the excess people there. I did pick up some VBS items yesterday and there were no checkouts open on the north end where I always park. I got in line and an employee asked me to move to the self service check out; I just looked at her and said, "thanks, but I prefer not to work for WM for free." She looked at me like I had two heads and walked away.
from Iowa!
s girlfriend.
I am still snoozing away at that time. That's too bad about all those folks losing their jobs because of the flooding. Not to wonder why the welfare rolls have swelled so big. Take good care of your feet this evening. They are the only two you have and you don't get anymore so treat them good.
I don't know why I was tired because I didn't do anything except laundry, sort some more clothes for the SOS store, and ironed a few things.
We just got the flowers planted and pots put out! Bob can hardly contain himself when the WM clerks ask him to go to the self checkouts.
Several of the teachers have had double charges or stolen #s from shopping in bigger cities.
It would be wonderful if someone could figure out, for sure, what causes the pain when you walk. I hope the commissary run goes smoothly for you today.
Don't let it get you down to have to use a cart. My goodness girlfriend ~ that is what those carts are for ~ to give a help to the shoppers who need a little or a lot. I am so thankful they have them for I too use them on occasion. Once a real good looking elderly gentleman asked me if I wanted to race.
Hope you find all you need at the commissary. We get new debit cards just about every few months now. And have been sent cards from the bank with new numbers way before the others had expired. Keeping trouble away. The trouble I was just having with my debit card was on a not very old card but I have a new one now.
The tornado was probably 100+ miles away; it did some damage to a few farm buildings but nothing to people.
Jack and figured if I can lose 2 1/2 lbs per week between now and next year's vacation I should be in good shape as far as walking and all that, which is my main concern for the cruise at this point. If as the time is close, and I have lost what I feel should put me at a fairly healthy weight again, not at goal, but certainly much much better than now and I am finding the muscle cramps still don't go away with walking, I may consider just renting a scooter to take on the cruise for the week to do excursions and such so I can enjoy the trip. Hopefully, as the weight comes off the cramping will go away. It is a wait and see at this point.
on losing 6#s! Whatever you are doing is working so keep on doing it! Going on a cruise will be good motivation to stay on program. What brand of candles did you buy? The flavor sounds delicious. We grilled Schwans' boneless, skinless chicken breasts and they were very moist. We're eating leftovers for lunch today. Tonight we are going out to eat with the group that Bob sings with. The pastor's wife sings with them and they go out to eat when someone moves away. I missed going with the bell choir because we were in Sioux Falls. I hope you get your chores done that are on your list today.
I can see you now on that cruise looking good. I wish you the best down the road to thin. We can do this thing! Yep we do have the gumption to do it. I would love to have chickens in the yard. Fresh eggs are the best so I have to rely on Egglands. But a chicken in the yard would be fun. When we move to Texas we will have chickens and grow our own beef. That time is getting closer ~ We are looking at a couple of years. I think we will get Texas plates on the Jeep sooner than we move there though.
