 Well, the temps warmed up enuff for us to get to the dentists; and all went OK, except they say I have a small cavity and want me to go back at the beginning of February ... drats! We'll see if the car starts in these -35+ C temps they are predicting -- may have to delay that appt if it gets there. I just heard some crackling noises; this always happens when the temps get down low (in the -20's C again) ...
:brr: Yeppers, the furnance is working hard tonight ... ;) hope you are all keeping warm out there; made a pot of homemade south-western type of beef soup with beans and corn, etc. Lots leftover for tomorrow and put some in the freezer too. Oh, soup is just perfect for these cold temps. We had lovely :sunny: today; and there's a really nice full moon out there tonight. Have a wonderful Wednesday ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Donna: I was whining about it going from -20 to 0 and back down to -10, but your temps remind me to be grateful for what I have! I remember the year I lived in Quebec City, it stay below -40 for over 2 weeks, and that was during Carnivale. We were all outside half the time with winter games, parades etc. I hope things will stay about this temp (-10) for a while, I like it cold and wintery, but not arctic!
|
So? Did any other Canadians join the X-Weighted challenge? I've had a horrible start, I haven't had time to do anything and I'm still eating junk... someone kick my butt! Ug. I have to do this.. I cannot fail!!!!!
We've had record snowfalls here... the roads are sssooo bad. A lot of previously two lane roads are down to one lane because there's just to much snow on the sides of the roads. I'm talking main city streets, it is causing such a mess! |

I'm on an old PC and for certain reasons have to be careful what I do and where I go, etc -- long story; ho-hum ... ;) I could rant a bit, but I won't becuz a newer PC is on it's way ... sooner than later, I hope. It's coming all the way from down south. The temps here went down to -30 C last night; chilly ... :brr: But DONNA still has us all beat in that department. I still don't like these temps though; and they expect it to get worse by the weekend ... :yikes: The :sunny: came out to play today and warmed us up to -16 C ... yeah! :carrot: Just stayed home and did vacuuming and stuff around here today; it's supposed to be a bit warmer tomorrow, so we'll see. Bundle up good and keep warm out there ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Well we are still sitting pretty at -45°C today. I'm ready for it to warm up. Even with the cold temps I was feeling well enough, I've had 3 nights of great sleep. I managed to roll out of bed this morning, warm up the van and be at the gym for 6am. It was a good workout for my first time back in weeks. I did 100 crunches too!! Eating is going good except for the Pepsi I grabbed this morning and have been sipping on already.
I've taken up knitting and been quilting a bit. I watched the show Heavy and I enjoyed it. Everyone in my house is healthy for now. I still have to go to work in this cold weather and I'm the only one here this week. I hope everyone is well and on track. |
Drop the pepsi Donna! You'll just negate all the crunching you did! Eek!
I'm sorry no one else made it for the challenge... I'm wondering if I've set myself to steep of a goal. It's harder to lose weight for me now :( Maybe I've just gotten lazy but 130 is looking kind of unrealistic. I have a stocky body type... wide hips and broad shoulders (thanks Dad....). I guess we'll see :( I heard the east coast is going to get hit with another snow storm! I feel really bad for you guys out there and for Donna up there. We've warmed up which is nice but now the deep snow is soft and vehicles just sink into it. Everyone is outside enjoying the sun while it's here... it won't last. |
 HI FOLKS ~ I don't mind the snow; becuz even if it is -10 to -15 C here, that hardens the snow up. It makes it dryer here and more bearable too. Those who have to clear the snow, complain about it; but not those that do that for a living -- they love the snow, so you can't please everyone, I'm afraid. We had -32 C here last night, but lovely :sunny: all day today and that warmed us up. It will be a cold one again tonight and possibly tomorrow, then it is supposed to slowly climb back to nicer temps again .. yeah (well, like I mentioned above).
AUNTY ~ why not see how you feel at 145, then 140 lbs; I know that I felt good at that weight -- oh, to be there now! I wish ... I guess the most important thing is how do you feel? Do you feel comfortable? Can you do everything you want to? Plus, are you healthy? Those are the questions I ask myself ... I still have a long way to go yet though; but you must be gettiing very close! DONNA ~ glad to hear that you and your family are doing better; don't envy those temps though. That was brave to go out so early to the gym in these temps. Bundle up and keep warm ... I have been reading a lot of books lately. We had ham and potato-veggie scallop for dinner tonight. I had a small salad with mine too (for another veggie). Hope all our Canucks are having a wonderful weekend ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Hi Everyone.
I'm new to the forum and this is my first real winter in Canada. I hadn't been doing to well but last week I decided if I dont get this wintery Blah feeling out of my system then I would be doomed. So I quit smoking, decided to lose weight and start indoor exercising. Now I need support to keep it all going. |
I went to my monthly ladies night, there is usually drinking, eating and game playing and whatever else we can dream up.
Last night I had 1 mushroom and 4 crackers with a bit of baba ganoush. It was at the end of the night after I'd had about 3 glasses of wine but still I feel like I succeeded! |
I planned my first meal this morning. It took me hours of wandering around the kitchen calculating and deciding but I finally did it. I measured EVERYTHING and followed preparation instructions (instead of the usual cook by feel) and I ate it and I felt full. I actually thought I could have ate a tiny bit less and still be satisfied. I had:
2 eggs scrambled with a 1/2 tsp Soy Margarine 1 serving of cream of wheat with 3 tsp sugar, 1 tsp margarine and 2 tbsp half & half Like I said in retrospect I woulda been satisfied with only one egg i think. Yay me! Baby steps. |
:welcome: SHAY ~ nice to have you join the rest of us CANUCKS here on our thread; and hope you are adjusting to our winters. It is a bit colder this year; and there has been a bit more snow than usual in some places, but it usually varies each year.
Sounds like you got a plan there; you are right -- baby steps. Try one thing at a time and see how it goes. Your BF sounded good. I often do that; have one egg, I mean; sometimes, I may add an extra white if I am really hungry. Today for lunch, I had an egg salad sandwich using 2 whites and one yolk (I gave the other yolk to our dear FIDO; our doggy buddy). DONNA ~ your ladies night sounds like a lot of fun! You did good girl; sometimes, it's the social events and celebrations that cause us the biggest problems but practice makes perfect, right? Keep it up ... :) The temps were a bit warmer today; came up to -13 C but I can feel that it is cooling off a bit now. Time to go check dinner; having baked steak & veggies in a mushroom sauce. Have a terrific Tuesday ... Rosebud :flow2: |
So I braved the snow and went out to a girlfriends and luckily i did because she introduced me to this stuff called Benefibre. Its Inulin fiber that dissolves clear and is tasteless. Well I had been having a problem with the smaller portions and trying to get a proper amount of fiber in each day and so I ate my portion and then drank the Benefibre in a glass of lemon water and I was full. Killing two birds with one stone, getting my water in and my fiber. lol
|
Welcome Shay. Sounds like you are off to a great start.
Yes, it's all about baby steps. I didn't do great today with the eating, we ate out and i had too many treats today. I continue to work on my inside out. We it mentioned here by someone. Well I find it's helping. I'm on the 13th podcast but a bunch of them weren't working for me. I saved my day by having only a tuna wrap for dinner and there is no pop in the house. I got my new exercise ball from Sears and I blew it up today and did a few crunches and pushups with it. Baby steps. Off to the gym in the morning. |
SHAY ~ I answered your post in the OBSTACLES FORUM about the bloating, gas, etc symptoms you were having. You didn't mention there that you were taking that BENEFIBER stuff; you know, that could have been the real cause of your stomach problems. Some people find they have lots of similar symptoms when they first take that stuff. Go off that for now and see if you feel better. If you real the label, you may find that those are some of the side effects of taking fiber ... ;)
DONNA ~ that's the right strategy; just keep going on the next snack, meal, or day -- it will even out over the week and month. Warmer temps here for now; enjoying them whilst we can as they are expecting the cold to return next week. Now I see why bears hybernate ... we had some more fluffy ***** but I actually love it! Eating going well this week; yeah! Have a great Thursday and keep warm ... Rosebud :flow2: |
The odd thing is that I can take Metamucil but oh gosh why would I lol. That stuff tastes horrible LOL. That's why I was so psyched about the Benefibre. I feel a bit better today.
There is still rumblings but I was able to sleep and so its amazing what proper rest can do. So today, my plans are to take it easy yet again. I have 2 errands to run this morning then I'm going to lay back down for a while. I'm not even going to stress myself that its day 3 and I havent exercised or counted points. I have to remember its a journey and not a marathon. So I just have to settle into it for the long haul. |
Hi Shay  Nice to meet ya. I agree the stomach problems are probably caused by the sudden increase in fiber. You may want to start by drinking only a little, let your body get used to that then slowly increase it.
Rose - Are you guys getting another storm? I heard yesterday that the east coast was going to get pounded again by the same storm that hit the US. Donna - How do you like the exercise ball? Have you used it again? I've had a small victory... after being stuck at 150-152 I've managed to make it back into the 140's... 148 :) Yay me. |
AUNTY ~ :congrat: on moving down into the 140's; that's a major accomplishment, in my books!
Yes, we had a ***** storm during the night last night with northern winds gusting through. It had all stopped by morning with about 4-6inches falling I guess; but we had lovely :sunny: all day today so it warmed up a bit. Since dusk, the temps have fallen back down to -20 C so I am going to put my fireplace stove on again tonight; it really helps to warm up the far end of our livingroom and it looks nice, too ... ;) Just did stuff around home today whilst DH ran errands for me, as we didn't have much to do this week. Hope you all have a FAB FRIDAY NIGHT, and a wonderful weekend too ... keep warm, eh? Rosebud ... :flow2: |
Hi,
I was sick last night. I ate something and didnt read the label. It taught me I cant assume anything about food labels any more. I'm was tired of it all and just decided to low carb it. That way I know I'm limiting my intake and I did it all day and felt great. My mind was clearer and my tummy definately felt like it had a rest. I can do this. |
SHAY ~ hope you are feeling better this weekend; and glad you found a plan that works for you too ...
Our temps have really fallen lately and it's supposed to go down into the -33C area tonight. Thank goodness for loads of :sunny: during the daytime this week; I hope it continues to keep us warm at least part of the day. Just having a lazy, hazy relaxin' day today; that's what Sundays are great for right ... right! Hope all our Canucks are keeping warm out there; time to go read more of my book ... :D |
Remember me? I'm the one who basically fell off the face of the forum for the last month. Feel free to virtually slap me :)
But I am back with a vengeance. I joined WW this past week on wednesday night and so far doing really well. I really like the new program and I have been weighing and measuring faithfully. I've been hungry off and on a few times but that was my fault. I forgot to take enough fruit for snacks at work and such. Today my bff next door and I went for a walk downtown for about 30 mins. It was quite chilly and the sidewalks were slippery so we didn't go longer than that. But at least we got out for a bit and got some fresh air. I am on the countdown at work now. 1 month left. When I took the job it was for 1 year to cover a sick leave and she is coming back starting tomorrow morning on a gradual return to work plan for a month. So I am done sometime around the end of Feb. I am happy and not happy about it. I don't really like being there but I also don't want to be on EI at all. I hate being home on EI. I know I've paid into it for years but still, I would rather be working. So hopefully I will find something fairly soon. Hopefully no more snow this week. We have just had one after the other here down east. I am fed up with it. One decent week would be nice instead of just a few days and then another weather bomb LOL Guess thats it for me. I am going to change my ticker to represent me starting at WW this past week. I'll update each wednesday with the new, hopefully lower, number. Everyone have a good start to your week! Alannah |
Thanks Rosebud :o I was there once before and I slipped up and gained 5 pounds back. But now I'm ready to go again!!!
Shay - I hope you get better and stay better girl. It's no fun being sick. Hi equinetcan.. glad to see you back  I bought a new pair of jeans... SIZE 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had to post in the NSV area... I haven't been a 10 in years :D |
I had some sort of carb panic attack today LOL. I was out and didnt pack a lunch or snack and the ppl I was visiting had NOTHING but crap in their fridge and cabinet AND to top it all off they had chocolate cake in the cabinet hiding it from me so I wouldnt feel tempted. I'm like dudes that cake doesnt tempt me as much as all the other stuff around here sausage rolls and graham wafers and pop corn and chocolate chips and 10K boxes of friggin crackers. I caved and ate 1 cracker, 2 chocolate chips and a bite of grilled cheese sandwich. I had to leave FAST! Now i'm home and I feel so much better. I hate ppl who have a house full of junk food. LOL
|
 HI ALANNAH ~ glad you found your way back here again; hope you have lots of success with your new WW plan too ... :)
AUNTY ~ that's a fab NSV for sure; been too many years since I wore a size 10 -- but yes I did, when I was in my twenties ... ;) SHAY ~ yes, we know what you mean: love the people, but hate the houseful of junkies ... I know that's what you meant! Good for you for getting out of there; don't blame you one bit ... :D Well, so glad that it did not get as cold as they had predicted; still cold enuff at around -23C and the :sunny: was out full force all day again today and should be all week, as the temps warm up for more ***** ... isn't that always the way; but hey, I'll take it! We went up town and got our weekly shopping done; needed lots of veggies and salad stuff; got some good deals on lean meats too. So I got a lot of walking in today; and soon I will put my sore feeties up with a nice hot cuppa tea and do some more reading. Have a great week everyone ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Hi guys!
There are some Canadians after all. I only saw a thread about Village on a diet here so far. I just signed up and started to check out this place. |
:welcome: JOSEY ~ glad you found us over here; yes, we have a Canadian thread as there are quite a few Canucks on this site as you'll see as you peruse around. They don't all post here every day, but they come by now & then.
Yes, we are in the cold, cold north for sure; but we've been blessed with warmer temps for the last two days; well, warmer than last week, that is ... but we were also blessed with a mini-snow storm today too (on and off); the winds from the south were quite strong though -- can hear them through our furnace vent. :) We really can't complain becuz we had full :sunny: for several days in a row here; and the temps are much nicer than was predicted, so we are happy canucks these days. Just stayed home and did laundry and other regular stuff whilst DH did the errands for me: he loves to do that; gives him something extra to do in the winter besides moving snow around from one place to another (I kid you not) ... Have a Fantabulous Friday and keep warm ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Hey guys,
Weighed in tonight instead of yesterday due to our big snowstorm. I was down 3.4 lbs for my first week at WW. We got about 25cm or so and that makes the 4th big storm in as many weeks here. I know its winter and all but I really am getting tired of the storms lol Glad tomorrow is Friday! Alannah |
Great to hear there are more of us :-)
I just started WW again too. Very excited and very hopeful. I have lost weight with WW before and now I am back. We had pretty good weather the last couple of days. It is time for spring (haha!) |
How are you guys doing with Tim tempting on every corner? They just announced Roll Up The Rim is starting Feb 21. Uh oh.
|
Josey - I work right across the street from one (for the time being anyway). So I get to look at Timmies all day LOL. I only let myself have a "real" coffee with cream and sugar once a week. If I really want coffee the rest of the week I get milk and I add my own splenda (I keep packets in my purse and my lunchbag). Otherwise I like Earl Grey tea so I get an XL black and they use 2 bags when you get XL and I find I can add more water later at work and its plenty strong for me. So I get 2 XL for the price of 1 LOL.
But it is a temptation, I know. The food doesn't bother me for the most part - not yet anyway. I stay away from that pretty easily. Not doing anything special this weekend. Housework today and some walking later. We have another dumping of snow coming tonight to the tune of up to 30 cm. This makes 5 big storms in less than 5 weeks. I am about snowed out. I hate February and this is why. I am not a snow person but I deal cause I live east. Not much choice :) Dog sitting last night and today. So my Chancey has her little buddy with her for company. I say little buddy cause Chancey is 85 lbs black lab and Alex is a 5lb poodle. They love each other though. Alex pretty much thinks Chancey is his mom or at least big sister. Hope you all have a good weekend! Must go get some stuff done and figure out my points for today. Alannah |
Roll Up The Rim! The first sign of spring:carrot:
This is my first post,I am doing WW but thinking about switching to WW online. The meetings are doing nothing for me but I love the etools. my laptop died yesterday and hubby's computer is upstairs so I will make my decision once I know if my laptop can be fixed. I find I get very obsessed with weigh in if I am going to meetings.I would prefer to focus on eating healthy and getting past emotional eating. I think WW is a great plan and the only thing I have ever been able to stick to long term. Have a great day fellow Canadians. |

Originally Posted by dsquires: I am doing WW too. However I still use an old points system. I didn't want to learn all the new rules and it worked well before. I am only working with a formula to calculate points, an old food guide book and an iphone app (iWatchr). That app is soooo handy. I have it with me all the time and it is super quick. I also was able to set up custom calculations for the old points system. I never went to a meeting in my life. I always figured it would be just weird to have people weigh you and ask how you feel etc. ;-) I did very well on my own, so I never missed it. In 2002 I lost over 44 pounds in 6 months. Now I am back!!! |
Hello I am also in Canada I didn't realize we had a thread. I live in Ontario.
Does anyone else in Canada have issues with seasonal depression? That is my biggest weight loss issue at the moment but I know it will eventually pass as it does every year but dealing with it in the mean time is a pain. I can also relate to the Timmies addiction although it is something which I seem to have overcome at this point. This may be because I no longer work of commute past one on a daily basis. For anyone familiar with Toronto all I can say is "darn you Finch station Timmies!!!" *vigorous shaking of fist* This particular location is a direct cause of my 15lbs weight gain when I started working in Toronto so Timmies is my nemesis. The last time I went to one I had 3 Tim Bits and that was in October. |

When I eat because of SAD it doesn't have to be junk, anything at all wil do except fruit and veg. lol.I just read that st.johns wort helps but it is contraindicated with a lot of meds including antidepressants. I don't take any meds so I think I will try it.I also have a light box which helps considerably. Hello to everybody else, have a great day. I have my food planned out and today I am trying 3 meals and a small bedtime snack and I will see if that keeps me satisfied, eating between meals is where I get in trouble. Sorry I don't remember any names yet.I love the new ww program,it really encourages healthy eating.I am so glad to hear of your success working the program on your own, that makes me feel more confident I can do it to. My issues go deeper than just counting points, I am a pro at that, I have been doing it on and off since points were first introduced. Now I am concentrating more on the emotional/depression eating. WW is just a tool to keep track of calorie intake, they don't discuss the emotional eating enough. Sorry for the book, I seem to be wordy today. Debbie::) |
:welcome: VEELA & DEBBIE ~ nice to have you both join our Canadian thread too! Yes, we have a TIMMIE'S here for sure ... I don't have a problem with it as mostly I just have coffee. Rarely, we used to have a raisin-bran muffin with coffee for breakfast; but that usually only happened once a year.
ALANNAH ~ :congrat: on the weightloss; that is so rewarding to go to the meeting and find that you lost some!!! HI JOSEY ... SAD ~ I hate the lack of light too, so we close up our curtains at night and put on our lights right away during the winter. Whenever it is :sunny: we open our curtains wide and I make sure to sit in the direct sun for about an hour at least. I will read in my rocking chair by the big livingroom picture window to warm myself with the light. We were blessed with sun all last week and now we have a bit of ***** on and off, but not too much really. The temps are a bit colder tonight but our Winter Carnval is on and we need the night temps to keep our lake cold for the festivities. We had roast beef and piles of veggies for dinner tonight; got lots leftover for tomorrow too. Have been reading a lot of historical romances (finished one on the weekend) to while away my winter. Hope you all have a wonderful week coming up ... Rosebud :flow2: |
Hi Everyone... nice to see some new faces.
Josey - I switched my Tims obsession to tea instead of sweetened coffee. I love the honey lemon and I take my tea black so that helps. Tim bits are a good substitue for doughnuts but they have a fair amount of fat and calories also so I have 2 at the most if I must have something. The Tims website lists nutritional info for these also so I try to stick with the "better" ones. Veela - I also suffer from SAD as well as depression year round. Winter is the worst time of year. Have you ever tried one of those sun lights? I find mine really helps me |
Rosebud, have you read the outlander series by Diana Gabaldon? The first one came out 20 years ago and the 7th one just last year and is now in paperback. I have acquired 6 of the 7 . I bought the last one full price and picked up the rest at value village and a second hand book shop, looks like I will have to pay full price for the one I am missing. If you like a good thick historical romance you will probably enjoy this author.I read the first few years ago but I am enjoying reading them again even though I don't usually reread books.
Hello all, A nice bright sunny day here after all the snow yest. I will go for a walk a little later when the side walks are cleared and sanded, I live near a main road so they are usually pretty good, just getting out of my subdivision is the tricky part. Have a great day everyone:) |
