Red - Don't give up! I am so proud of you for not smoking - even though you took a pause, you didn't take the habit up again - that's the best part!
di - WTG on all of your challenges! Hope you have a great time in CA! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++ My offical WI was today and I was actually down 1.8 lbs. I guess I did well enough the rest of the week to make up for Memorial day. Challenges are done for the day! We got a new Wii game - "Walk It Out". The kids and I played this morning - it was great fun! I polished off my 10 minutes in no time. When I finished, it showed the stats and showed that I had walked 1 mile! :carrot: I followed it up by a few sets of dumbell curls for my arms. I always hate to exercise, but I forget how much better I feel when I do! Hope you all have a great day! Water Challenge Drink 80 oz of water per day - 0 passes 3/21 and Exercise Challenge - starting slow! At least 10 minutes of exercise 6 days a week - 0 passes 2/21 |
Got through yesterday pretty well. Clear on all challenges and really made an effort to focus on the feel good challenge and what it meant. It's hard to qualify but I think I did it. It's a balance of doing things for a sense of accomplishment and doing things that will simply give me that feeling of gentleness and understanding toward my efforts and needs. Now, that's what it's all about, eh?
NO SMOKING CHALLENGE Round 2 DAY 2 COMPLETED 1 pause taken FEEL GOOD CHALLENGE 15 DAYS COMPLETED NO ALCOHOL CHALLENGE 5 DAYS COMPLETED 3 pauses taken ************** diyana -- I was thinking you had left for vacation already. Good to see you in here. Have a great time as I know you will. I'm jealous. I'll miss you! tex -- Thanks. That's sweet of you. Yes, the smoking is no longer something I want to do. However, I am gaining weight and that part is making me unhappy. But I don't think the tradeoff is at all worth it. Of course it isn't. Feeling and being unhealthy just to lose weight. No, what's the point? That is great with your weight loss. Wow. Good for you! :cp: |
Red & Diyana~ thanks for the congrats on my weight loss. I hope the scale keeps going on the right direction.
Diyana~ Enjoy your vacay, we will miss you. Very busy day today, no time to exercise, and trying very hard to stay OP. |
Tex - Congrats on the weight loss! That's wonderful!! I have a Wii Fit, and really enjoy it when I'm not able to go to Zumba classes.
Red - I like your description of your feel good challenge. I leave early tomorrow (Wednesday) morning for vacation. I'm not taking a computer...but I'll try and post from time to time, even if I have to use my phone....which is kind of tedious. GirlieYorkie - Hope you were able to stay OP yesterday. *********************** I enjoyed two Zumba classes and a strength training class last night. But by the time I got home, I was tired, sore and hungry...so no time to start packing. I'm going to try and get it done quickly tonight, so I can get to a couple Zumba classes. I don't know if I'll have time to post tomorrow morning before I head to the airport. But I'm going to continue my challenges through to completion...then probably wait until I get back on 6/21 to start new ones. Though I'm going to work hard to keep my eating OP and get LOTS of activity in while I'm on vacation. Diyana~ how nice of you to post before leaving for your vacay.
I will really miss your posts, they sure motivate me to get "moving". We understand if you won't be able to post, I know that is is tedious to post from a phone. I have no doubt that you will get all the activity you need, and that you'll try to stay OP, but hey, have fun. I'm still trying to workout how to stay on 18 daily points, but I'm using my weekly points and it's helping some. |

My weight is going back up and it's no wonder. Not smoking is having a very bad effect in that area. In fact, so much so, that yesterday I made the conscious decision to smoke instead of continue to stuff my face with food. I suppose it's a rebound reflex or something but I have been eating way too much and truly can't seem to stop. So, even though I was glad to be unaddicted and all I just couldn't let this weight gain continue. I know it's stupid but right now I need to feel good about my weight and seeing it go back up after I lost it is devastating. I don't really want to smoke but I needed to have something other than food to stick in my mouth....yeah, well, that's sad but so be it. Now, to try to get the confidence back that says, "I can lose weight without smoking." Right now, I need the crutch. It's as simple as that. I feel like a failure but gaining the weight back made me feel like a bigger one...no pun intended.
NO SMOKING CHALLENGE Round 2 DAY 4 COMPLETED 2 pauses taken FEEL GOOD CHALLENGE 18 DAYS COMPLETED NO ALCOHOL CHALLENGE 8 DAYS COMPLETED 3 pauses taken ************** tex -- Good for you!! :bravo: Do you feel better? |
Red~ sorry to hear about the weight going back up. I know that the transition from a smoker to non smoker is especially difficult when one is trying to lose weight. What it's all about is: it is a habit! But isn't that what our thread is all about? ~ To break the habit that is keeping us from achieving our goals. So, we need to continue with our challenges and hope to end up on the upper hand and be "in control".:crossed:
|
Well, I'm solid on pauses on two challenges and they may fall but I'll see. Don't know if I will ever be able to lose the weight. I think it's the food I eat. I need to learn how to eat to burn fat. What I'm doing is just living off the food I eat and never tapping into my fat stores it seems. Wish I knew how but also know that it is something my mud-mired brain doesn't want to do. Gotta find a way..... :(
NO SMOKING CHALLENGE Round 2 DAY 4 COMPLETED 3 pauses taken FEEL GOOD CHALLENGE 19 DAYS COMPLETED NO ALCOHOL CHALLENGE 9 DAYS COMPLETED 3 pauses taken ************** girlie, thanks for the support. The problem is not the smoking really. It's the eating. |
Hey Red, we all know that the only scientifically proven method for losing weight involves burning more calories than you take in, but like you said it is something that "your brain doesn't want to do".
I'm sure you know too, that smoking, as well as comfort/mindless eating is a habit. What we need to do is learn/adapt new habits. Easier said than done~ I know! That's why we are where we are right now. We learn everyday, also by our mistakes, but we need to move on- if we want to achieve our goals. You can do it. Listen to your body, stop eating when you're full/satisfied or not hungry. How about some meditation/relaxation techniques?:dust: This is day 20 for staying OP challenge, official weigh in tomorrow. |
I think I will give this challenge a try. I hope I understand it. I want to stick to my calorie limit of no more than 1500 calories. I probably should drop to 1400 but I'm gong to start at something I SHOULD be able to succeed at but often don't. So I'm calling this is a level 2 for me.
|
Maryea~ :welcome:, good luck on your challenge. :crossed:We are happy to have you here with us.
|
Well, I kind of automatically reached for the cigs again yesterday even though earlier I had been thinking I would get through the day without smoking. Anyhow, I'm not committed to this right now, so I'm not going to talk about it or start a new challenge. Commitment is the most important prerequisite to starting a new challenge in my opinion. If our hearts aren't in it, there's little chance of completing one.
Now, on a bright note (pat on the back) I AM feeling much more committed to the not drinking. I stayed home from a gig by friends that was a longtime reunion. It would have entailed drinking. And today I am debating whether to go to the racetrack, which will again involved drinking. I have no pauses left and I am only nine days into the challenge. Beer consumption is a killer as far as fat loss goes. I am smoking because I'm not burning fat. If I'm smoking...and I don't really want to be....then how stupid is it to be drinking. No, my priority has to be eating well and that means not drinking. Like my bodybuilder friends who drink, they can abstain before contests to get ripped because they know they will allow themselves the brew later. I certainly can do this. There are certain occasions where it is very hard not to drink, where people are insulted if you don't or where you really want the buzz, like at a rock gig. Thus, I feel it is better to simply not go. I got to the gym yesterday as well and did well, I think. Even did something new, incline walking on the treadmill. Really worked up a sweat and yet it wasn't hard on my knees. Afterward, I also made a huge salad with mostly vegetables like I used to. When I was down to 68 kg I was eating them a lot. They are a slight pain to make but really fill me up and feel healthy. NO SMOKING CHALLENGE ....FALLEN.... FEEL GOOD CHALLENGE 19 DAYS COMPLETED NO ALCOHOL CHALLENGE 9 DAYS COMPLETED 3 pauses taken ************** girlie -- Yes, it's about less calories in than out but I'm finding and being told by the bodybuilders and wives of the bodybuilders that WHAT you eat is crucial. If you don't have the quality food to fuel workouts you will automatically and perhaps unknowingly cut down on the workout and thus reduce the results of your efforts. The body thinks on its own. This is what we have to realize. If the body doesn't get what it needs as far as nutrients are concerned it WILL find a way. And when you have the ultimate survivor genes like I apparently do, will power doesn't have a chance. :^: Only working hand in hand with the body through SMARTS can lead to success. I haven't been too smart. Time to start. So, this sounds like fodder for another challenge. SMART EATING Challenge. Hmmm....a bit of stealth is in store here.... maryea, welcome to our humble thread. :welcome2: Best of luck!! :goodluck: |
Red~ Sorry to hear about the no smoking challenge, anyway, I went through the same process and had to go trough so many times trying to quit the habit. So it will come when you are truly ready, I guess you'll just have to keep trying, eh?
WTG, for to the gym and working up a sweat! Good luck on your stealth.:crossed: ****************************************** Official WI day~ I'm down 2.8 pounds. I can't believe it! I did not even exercise this week. OK, I did some housework, and was out shopping twice. I was also eating way, way, beyond my daily points and tapping into my weekly and activity points. I also ate out when I was out shopping, so I'm esctatic that I have lost so much. I better not get cocky, they might sneak back on me! In summary: I have been doing WW online for 3 weeks and have lost a total of 6 pounds, so I'm within the healthy weight loss range. This is 21 day of my challenge and I call it as completed, so I'll start round 2 tomorrow. I've read that whatever you do daily for 3 months turns into a habit, however, everyone seems to turn away from such a long term challenge. 21 day challenge seems more doable, and yet somehow we still fail to do it, so it is in itself a real good challenge. I better start working on doing some form of exercise if I want to continue to lose weight. There's a bit of stealth in store here as well....... |
It's still Sunday night but I'm calling the day for today. Really did well on both challenges. Feel Good I planned and almost did to the letter. The No Alcohol I almost canned because someone was calling to see where I was after I had promised to show up today (which would have meant lots of drinks!) and I didn't go. I almost went because I felt bad about not going but I gave some excuse and decided to think about ME for a change.
Instead I got to the gym again and worked out hard. More walking on an incline (50 min!) then a bit of bicycling (5K), chest and back weight training and even upped the bench to reps at 60 kg. But best of all, I am doing my stealth!! I was thinking to myself, just what is it that is so hard about eating right? I do so many much harder things and yet I can't stop my hand from going to my mouth. Oh, come on, I thought, you CAN do this. Just decide to and do it!! More tomorrow! :cloud9: FEEL GOOD CHALLENGE 20 DAYS COMPLETED NO ALCOHOL CHALLENGE 10 DAYS COMPLETED 3 pauses taken ************** girlie -- Way to go on the weight loss!!! :cp: :encore: :cp: And completing your challenge!! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: I guess they go hand in hand, eh? I am jealous. How do you do it? Stay OP for three weeks. My God, I am on a roll if I can do three days, no exaggeration. Maybe the fact that I don't really have a plan is a problem... :^: Is 2.8 lbs for just one week?! http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...cinghearts.gif That often happens it seems, you stop exercising and the body relaxes and drops some weight. BUT, it doesn't mean the exercising was a problem. It's the pause AFTER the exercise that is the charm. Yes, getting "cocky" was my problem too. I mean, look at my no alcohol challenge. I am only 10 days into it now but THREE pauses are gone!! And when I drink it's not just one or two pints. Oh, no. It's a night out. So, you can see why I'm determined to see this through for another 11 days, even if it means and meant missing on out on some fun times and turning people down who were expecting me to show up. You too, good luck on the stealth!! :goodluck: http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...nbutterfly.gif |
Hi everyone!
Red - Feeling much better - just a shot of exhaustion! I'm sorry about the no smoking challenge! Glad you are sticking with the no alcohol - I imagine to give both those up at once is tough. I think you nailed it with the types of food we eat. I think if I fed my body 1500 cals it would rather have it in lean meat, fruits, and veggies instead of cake, candy, and chips. girlie - WTG on the WL! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++ I have been having a great few days challenge wise - it's just been tough to get to a computer! I have been doing my exercise - most times exceeding my 10 min goal, and getting 80+ oz of water in. It has all started to become second nature now. Today is my built in skip day for exercise, so I am resting and taking it easy. Tomorrow is my weigh in day, so hopefully I will post a loss! Water Challenge Drink 80 oz of water per day - 0 passes 9/21 and Exercise Challenge - starting slow! At least 10 minutes of exercise 6 days a week - 0 passes 7/21 |
tex, good to hear you're feeling better! Good luck on your challenge!
I'm feeling bummed that my weight is up again this morning. I know it means nothing because I was great yesterday but I DO need to see the numbers falling. I always do. I don't know why they're so important to me. Well, of course they are. I mean, if they don't fall, it means I'm still stuck in the same old place, spinning my wheels amid a lot of hard work, never figuring out just how to get out of the mud! |
Well, it's still fairly early Monday night here but I am going to call the challenges (including the stealth) and report that all were done and the Feel Good Challenge is finished! Hurrah! :spin:
I was doing really well but then started pigging on these sweet things I bought. Damage is done but all along I kept thinking, how stupid to be undoing all that hard work in the gym. And I did stop...BEFORE...the beasties were all gone. Lesson! Do NOT bring the stuff home with me. Do NOT buy it! I did get to the gym and there did everything I had planned. The eating too was planned and I did that except for that little side trip. At the gym I really pushed. Did the 5K incline walking, which was a killer in parts (I made up a new workout) when I was walking at 3.5 mph with a 10% incline, and the 10K on the bike and then arm/shoulder weight training and abs. Then I walked the 50 min. home. This morning I had done the walk in the opposite direction. So, of course, I am hungry but am abstaining as best I can. i will probably get woken up by the screaming tonight from the second floor when the Japan-Cameroon World Cup match is on. Ugh. I don't mind the soccer game but don't want to be woken up by the cold b1tch upstairs who never says hello but screams at soccer games....maybe she has a lot of money down... ;) FEEL GOOD CHALLENGE 21 DAYS COMPLETED CHALLENGE DONE!!!! :cp: :encore: :cp: NO ALCOHOL CHALLENGE 11 DAYS COMPLETED 3 pauses taken Rainy season has started here.... :rain: |
Red~ :cheer2:Congrats on completing the feeling good challenge:congrat:
You're doing pretty good at the gym as well. Good for you. I'm sorry about the needle of your scale going in the wrong direction. It does happen to all of us, of course we want the needle to continously go the right direction, unfortunately it doesn't always behave like we want it to:mad::mad: Yes, I did lose 2.8 pounds in just a week, I got on the scale several times- couldn't believe it. On another scale, it showed a loss of 3 pounds, however I opted to play safe and record 2.8 to make allowance for the next WI. Tex~ I'm glad you're feeling better. Good luck on your WI.:crossed: ****************************** I was supposed to start round 2 of my challenge today, but we had unexpected guests, so I didn't track my food- way, way, too much to track:o I probably used all my weekly allowance:( so, I decided to just wait till tomorrow to start round 2 of staying OP- level 3. Hmmmm- what did I say about getting cocky? Somebody need to kick my butt now!:kickbutt: |
Hi! I'd love to join in on this challenge.
My goal: exercise for at least 20 minutes everyday for 21 days. (Exercise can be anything except walking) |
Mikan~ :welcome: and good luck on your challenge.:crossed:

Tuesday morning. Didn't get any work done last night so have to do it all now. Haven't weighed yet. Still drinking the morning jumpstart coffee.
I have never been good at planning and calculating every little thing I eat. In fact, when I do do it I end up eating more than I would have because I'm focusing on food. That said, obviously I'm not eating little enough to lose anyhow. I keep saying it but don't do it. I HAVE to just plan ahead with what I think will allow me to lose weight and then stick to it. I really hate doing this though, really hate it. How can losing weight be so incredibly hard? What bothers me more is, how can people like bodybuilders do it? They must not be human. There we're not talking simple weight loss, but near starvation, at least where fat levels are concerned. Oh, well, just get on with it..... As you can tell, I am NOT happy. At least no one was screaming upstairs at the soccer match. I heard them in early and was dreading it but then there was silence so they must have gone out to watch it somewhere. And Japan won. Whoopee. :^: Sorry, I just can't get into national sports. ************** girlie -- Butt kick time! :kickbutt: :lol3: Oh, heck, you can celebrate a little. I don't remember but were you NOT losing weight in your weigh-ins or what? Was the near 3 lbs more of a whoosh effect? If not, I am more depressed at my lack of progress...and jealous. ;) Mikan -- Welcome! :welcome3: |
Challenges are done for the day. The exercise must be paying off because I logged a 6.2 lb loss for the week. At first, I thought the batteries wer bad, so I replaced them, but the scale still showed the same.
I guess all this water and exercise are doing a body good! Water Challenge Drink 80 oz of water per day - 0 passes 10/21 and Exercise Challenge - starting slow! At least 10 minutes of exercise 6 days a week - 0 passes 8/21 |

Oh man I just finished a 21 dayer!!! It was so AWESOME!! I think I might do another one soon, with it culimating on my birthday. So that means I'd have to start on June 16th. Hmmmmm.....
|
tik, are you doing this on another thread or in secret? Join us here!
|
I coudn't find this thread yesterday for some reason. So posting for yesterday and today.
yesterday I did fine. Stayed within my 1500 calories. 0/21 today though I blew it - 2040 calories! So do I call this a pause day? Let me know if this is wrong and I'll change it. 1 pause/21 |
Starting my challenge today. I can see on the scale that I need to stay OP.
I guess it's more like fluid retention~ I like to think so anyway! Too early to call it a day, but it is so exciting that there are so many posts, and I don't want to miss anyone. ****************************** Red~ thanks, I needed the :kickbutt:, actually I also needed these::frypan::rollpin:~~. I'm not good at planning either, I just kind of wing it. Ok, I just kinda make better choices. I love these Swedish white bread which has a sweet taste (2.5 points) and I switched to a Danish cardboard tasting crap which is 1 point, etc. I'd rather have volume than taste, otherwise I feel so deprived. However, I've also cut my portions e.g, I make 2 toasts, place them both on my plate if I feel full after the first toast, I chuck the other one~ you get the picture. Tex~ :congrat: on such an amazing WI. WTG~ You rock.:dancer::dancer: Tik~ please to meet you, I hope you come back and join us. Maryea~ it's good you found your way back to our thread. You're right, you have to call it a pause day, or restart since you're in the very early stage of the challenge. Actually it's your call, or maybe the sheriff :drill: can make a comment~ Red? |
Good morning everyone. I don't know what my first challenge will be yet, but I am hoping there is room for me to come back :?: I have succeeded, failed, and now need every tool possible to get back on track!
|
:welcome: Jollygirl. It's been a long time, I remember the doggies. Sorry to hear that you gained the weight back, but it happens to all of us, sometimes even to the very accomplished "maintainers". I'm sure there is room for everyone. I'm not the sheriff as you know, but I know that Red won't mind me saying so.
Good luck, you've done it before, so you know what works for you. |
Yo, got through another day and I've done GOOD! You bet!
Weight was down 200 grams. Big deal! But, I felt leaner somehow. Whatever. Got to keep it up. Been seeing a lot of very good-looking people in the gym and that is an incentive, because I know I can do it too. I've got the muscle, just got to melt the fat off the top of it. Admittedly, it's the women who are the incentive to do likewise. But it's the men who really light the fire. Met a new cutie today. Was asking him if he was done on the squat rack, but he looked at me blankly until the trainer told me he didn't speak any Japanese. Turned out he was Korean and what a young hunk! :dizzy: So I had to speak English! Declaring my Eat Smart Challenge. Help give yourself a clear run and all. But it's your call. Whatever rocks your boat! Just keep paddling! girlie -- Thanks for standing in there while I was out on the range. Don't beat yourself up too much. Takes all the fun out of me doing it. ;) Don't want any of that Danish crap now, do we? Volume over taste, hmm...sounds like a man...uh, I mean, a plan! :lol3: jolly, is that you?!!?! Welcome back!! :welcome: Just where have you been hiding?!?! Good to see you!! :spin: :flow1: :coach: Any challenge will do, just get your butt back in here! |
I did my challenge for the first day last night, after I posted. I worked out for 27 minutes to a Jillian Michaels dvd. Today I plan to work out to "Yoga Booty Ballet". I like working out to dvds because then I have no excuse for not going anywhere. I felt inspired reading everyone's progress on here so I decided to join in, too. Wishing you all luck. :)

Just weighed in and weight is up by 2 whole pounds. WTF?!?!?! I'm a bit sore but not that much. What a bummer. Maybe it's because I ate a salad rather late last night. Sigh. But, this is too frustrating. When I don't watch things, my weight goes up and up. When I do watch them, I obsess. How to find the middle ground amid not much fun? :(
|
Wow just found this thread. There really is something for everything I need on 3FC...especially because I love a challenge!
1. No alcohol, candy, pizza, fries, or potato chips - those are my binge/comfort foods (3 pauses total) 2. Write 1 page of a screenplay - career goal is to be a screenwriter but my ideas live in note-form or my head (no pauses) 3. Exercise at least 30 minutes - just started working out again (no pauses) 4. Leave my house - I know that sounds weird but I'm recovering from depression/anxiety and don't have a job or any other reason to leave the house so I very rarely do (3 pauses) |
Hey all  Thanks for the welcome back. Where have I been hiding, Red? In a cave, I think. I am working on that though. With any tool I can use. I hear you on how to find the middle ground. Always an issue - putting enough pressure/expectation on myself, without putting so much that I go into panic mode. It's tough. My thoughts are with you.
Deputy Yorkie  Good to see you here too. Of course, everyone remembers the fur children. Everyone else, can't wait to meet you. I still am not sure what I want to do for my first challenge or challenges. I am having to take baby steps in a lot of areas, to slowly regain ground I have lost. I went out and tried jogging for hte first time in a year. I had to do week one of a 10 weeks to your first 5k, and only a distance of a mile. Sad really, but I had been so afraid to even try. It felt really good, and I can't wait to go again. Anyhow. That's all for tonight. I am trying to not skimp on sleep. I moved recently, so my commute to work is a tad longer, so I get up even earlier (lovely). But, I now rent a duplex, with a nice yard. Nice break from big apartment complex. Also closer to family. I never would have thought that would be a benefit, but surprisingly it is :D |
