Just a quick post here. Had planned to write more but got real busy and must be up super early tomorrow morning.
FEEL GOOD CHALLENGE 2 DAY COMPLETED 1 pause taken NO ALCOHOL CHALLENGE 14 DAYS COMPLETED 3 pauses taken EAT SMART CHALLENGE 3 DAYS COMPLETED 1 pause taken REDUCE SMOKING CHALLENGE 1 DAY COMPLETED ************** Caela, thanks a lot for the kind words. I'm happy if I can be of some assistance! You hang in there. Only two drinks in four hours?!? Wow, I would have had....let's see...one pint every 20 minutes.....3 times 4...er...about 12 pints!! :lol3: You rock!! |
Hi everyone. I am so sore from working out 3 days in a row, because it has been way more than 20 minutes a day. (More like 25- 60 minutes a day). I even did yoga & a cardio workout yesterday. However, I am seeing results in my body so I will keep it up. :)
Exercise 20 minutes everyday Day 3 Completed Red, Good luck with all your goals. Quitting/ cutting back on both smoking and alcohol at once might be a lot of shock on your body. You can do this though!! Good luck!! Everyone else, Thanks for the welcome and good luck with your goals. If the next day seems hard, remember that you did it yesterday and you can do it again. |
We had to visit relatives yesterday, so I had to take a pause day. :( Did not have time to logIn and check all the posts either, so there’s some reading to do.:book2:
Got out of bed late this morning with the biggest hangover,:stars: then we had an unexpected visitor, ugh, why can't these people just stay away for sometime to give me time to regroup? Anyway, I’m on day 2 of my staying OP challenge level 3, 1 pause day taken.:o **************************** Mikan~ you’re doing great with your exercise challenge. 25-60 mins.~ WTG! Red~ 200gm less one day, and then up 2 pounds next day?!?! It looks like you are on the scale every single day~ I do that too. Maybe we need to chuck our scales? Or maybe try to stay away from the scale every now and then. We can’t let it take over our lives! So, there’s another challenge for me~ weigh once a week- level 3 (a very difficult challenge for me) Good idea with the smoking less challenge, it’s better to quit of course, however, baby steps is sometimes the key to success. Caela~ :welcome3:, please to meet you. Sorry about the food/drink challenge, however being with your friend has probably done a lot of good for you. You are starting with so many challenges, so it’s a bit more difficult to complete them all, anyway goodluck.:crossed: Jolly~ it’s good that you’re trying to get back on track. The duplex with the nice yard sounds wonderful- a real step up from the big apartment complex, and I’m glad that you enjoy living so close to your family. Do come and chat with us while trying to make up your mind on what challenge to take. Yeah, this thread can get quiet sometimes, but isn't it wonderful of Red to have kept this thread going? It's like a home where one can always come back to. Tex~ you’re doing great on your challenges. I also have a Wii, but haven’t use it in a long time. |
Well, scale is way up again this morning so I know something is amiss. It must be massive water retention and I think so, because yesterday I barely sweat when I was working out and usually I'm drenched. I will expect to be running to the bathroom a lot soon. :^:
Well, no time now. Gotta run! ************** girlie -- Hangover. Ugh? Hope you feel better real soon. Yea, the scale is a pain but I have learned I am better getting on it every day. I chart my weight on this free online graph (fridgegraph.com) and that way see the fluctuations so I know not to get freaked by the small ones. This time, however, it has been long and shown a definite upward trend despite a LOT of hard work and watching my food, so I am bummed. But I think it may be some unusual pms. I have had a very rough emotional time lately and that has surely shocked my system. It often does. Also, the incline walking in the gym has shocked new muscles, which are likely retaining water. Hormonal changes are the worst and often they are caused by anything, the on-again-off-again smoking, new exercise, perhaps salty food, whatever. I will hang loose. Yesterday I was very good with the smoking. I really don't even like it and admitting that to myself is great. I stayed away all day and only smoked at night. Oh, and thanks  so much for the nice words about my keeping the thread going. Sometimes it's not easy but at other times it has helped me pull myself in here despite feeling like giving up in so many ways. In good times it's a great boost. Thanks! Mikan, good to see you're working out so much. That's great! :spin: Exercising regularly is the BEST habit you can get into in life. Really, when I look around me at the older people it becomes very clear what happens to bodies and faces when you don't do anything much. And these people are not grossly overweight. But they look decrepit, very thin but with no tone and no strength. So many Japanese become bedridden from weakness or are very bent over in their old age. What a price for the reedy bodies of near-anorexic youth. :rain: |
Girlie - :wave:Yeah, I know it's a lot. I struggle with my internal motivation so need the challenge format and outside accountability to do things.
Red and Girlie - So true about scales determining your mood. My scale is up today, too. :tantrum: I try for once a week but I'm on the thing like 1-4x a day. Umm, fail. That would be a good 21-day challenge/new thread but I can not handle that right now! Mikan -What kind of yoga do you? I've done some cardio pilates vids in the past but want to try yoga. Did good on food/drink challenge today and procrastinated about the other ones. Then tweaked my knee, which has been hurting for more than a year due to weight gain. Had a real ‘woe is me’ self-pity moment. IDK how but snapped out of it. Focused on what I could do and not on what I couldn’t. All challenges complete, no pauses taken today! :goodvibes good luck to everyone! :cheer3::cheer3::cheer3: |
Hey all. Only time for a quick  to everyone. Sister was borrowing computer laaaate. What can you do?
OK. Starting to, related, challenges tomorrow. Want to try and clean up some habits, one at a time. 1) No soda - 3 pauses 2) No frappes (they are addicting little buggers) - 2 pauses. One bad habit at a time, eh? Workouts are being fairly consistent, so will leave that for right now. Need to get some success under my belt. Sorry so short. Have a great night all. And day, Red. Will try to post more tomorrow. |
Wow! I am so happy to finally be keeping this up. Day 4/21 complete.
I am seeing results, and I can't believe it has only been a few days. on 5/17 I was 40 inches or so around the belly button. Today I measured around my belly button and I have a 36 inch waist. It has slowly been going down, but on 6/9 I was 38 inches around the waist. I really hope I can keep this habit up despite the soreness. It feels like it consumes energy, but sometimes I feel it giving me energy now. Redballoon, Thank you for the encouragement. I know what you mean. My future mom in law is an older Japanese lady and while she doesn't work out necessarily she stretches every morning and remains active so she seems pretty healthy at 56 while my mom is the same age (with no activity) and has drastically different energy levels. However, just because a culture is perceived as thin (as the stereotype and perhaps inherited good metabolism), doesn't mean everyone is healthy. I think there is a lot to learn from this within the real separation of dieting and fitness. Caela, I have been using yoga dvds titled "Yoga Booty Ballet". They are really corny, but a fun mix of yoga, ballet, pilates, and some cardio and it keeps me entertained. I bought the used dvds on ebay & amazon from the personal sellers who sell cheaper used copies. I have heard some amazing reviews of other yoga dvds, however, and I do plan on trying them. Such as Shiva Rea's videos. Mainly I have been working out to all of the Jillian Michael's fitness routines. (If you have bad knees many advise against them). I do want to try her yoga dvd, but I heard it's less like yoga and more cardio with repetitive yoga poses. I do think the yoga helps me recover from the more intense cardio and weight bearing exercises, which I feel is essential for me to give me back the desire to exercise again. |
Up at 5:30 a.m. this morning...for no reason. Maybe my mind/body wants me to be super productive today. :rofl:We'll see how that turns out.
Mikan - Good on ya! Wow, everyone's talking about Jillian Michaels series. Have to give it a try. I was thinking about doing more traditional yoga to help me focus and "center" my mind. I'll see what people recommend on here. Jolly - Cute dogs! Those frappes ARE addictive. I don't even like coffee and last summer started drinking two at a time. Ever get/make fruit smoothies? Gives me that icy/creamy taste. |
Red & Caele~ we are all slaves of the scale, eh? It’s good you have mentioned the fridgegraph because it brought to mind that I have this nifty iphone app that I have quite forgotten about since I started WW Online. I have been so occupied with counting points, anyway, it is "true weight app", and what it does is, it keeps a history of your daily weight measurements and builds up an accurate picture of your underlying weight, it also estimates the number of calories that account for your daily weight changes, so you can adjust your caloric intake and exercise efforts. It is actually pretty accurate~ uncanny! So, I guess I have to drop this idea about the scale challenge, and start logging my daily weight on the true weight app instead.
Caele~ up at 5:30 a.m.?!? How did the day go? Mikan- nice to hear that you’re seeing results from your hard work. Keep up the good work. Jolly- good luck on the challenges, yeah- one bad habit at a time is a good way to do it. Good for you, for being fairly consistent on the workout department. ********************** Day 3 on staying OP level 3, 1 pause day taken. |
Evening everyone. Day 1 - no soda and no frappe challenges met. Other than that . . . :o I didn't run this morning. My knee was a tad squooshy from mowing last night. My lawn has real loose soil with hills. Not so great on bad knees. I am planning on running tomorrow instead. Then going out to try out my new kayak. Woo hoo. I did do my weights and stationary bike this morning though.
Made some bad food choices today. Poor planning. I ran late this morning due to forgetting to turn on my alarm, and didn't pack a lunch. then made bad food choices the rest of the day, due to being over busy teaching a class at work. Know better for next time, I guess. We'll see in the morning how much of my hard work got set back. I haven't done the fruit smoothies, Caela, because I am kind of picky about bananas. Most call for that. I would love to find a good protein shake recipe I could make with chocolate whey powder and add a little instant coffee to try and get a similar taste with better ingredients. Ideas anyone :?: As far as yoga, i am lucky a guy is offering free classes in teh park this summer - intense workout!! But I like Sara Ivanhoe's series through Crunch. Different types for relaxation or cardio. Have them on Amazon. Way to go Mikan on seeing results. It is so good to have that success to encourage you. :cheer: Everyone, have a fabulous day. I have to go see what bug my mighty hunter has spotted for me. Talk to you tomorrow. |
Real quick early morning post. I lost 3 pounds this week. Woo hoo. :cb: Not bad for a start. Here's to more weeks just like it :D
Off to work out, then try the kayak. Yeah!! And my hunter found an ant. The situation has been taken care of. |
Jolly ~:congrat: congrats. WTG.:cheer2: Keep up the good work. Hope the knee gets better real soon, so you can get back to running again.
|
Not doing too good here...am going to start everything over. :^: jolly, congratulations!! :cp: :encore: :cp: |
Evening all. Thanks for the congrats. And, no worries everyone. Just rearranged running days. I went out for another mile and a half yesterday. I was a little stiff when I started out, but my head felt so good, I wanted to just run until I couldn't, instead of building back up slowly. Knew that wouldn't be the wisest, so I moved to week 2 of the 10 weeks - 5k program. Felt real good. I don't want to go over 2 miles, until I get some more weight off my knees, but will plot out a good two mile route this week. Also tried out my new kayak yesterday. I am a klutz getting in and out, but it was a blast.
While I still have a LOT of room for improvement in my diet, I am gettng to the point where bad choices feel physically bad. This is a good thing. I want to recognize crap, as if I feel bad physically, I won't eat it again. When i feel bad mentally, I just eat more to drown it out :( Red, sorry you are having a rough time. Hope it gets better soon. You can do it :cheer: |
Hope everyone had a nice weekend!
Red, if I focused on all the negative things about me or my situation, I would be depressed. :coach:Stay positive, pick yourself up, and keep going! You can do!! Congrats Jolly! And thanks to you and Mikan, I got Sarah Ivanhoe candelight yoga and Ellen Barret yoga pilates (cause I love Crunch) plus the 30-day shred. Completing Day 4 of Food/Drink with 1 pause taken and Day 5 of the other ones. I'm not going to lie - thinking about having a :nono: snack for doing so good in the exercise department. Maybe I'll try to hold off until tomorrow. We shall see.... |
