Hi ladies,
Not only did I NOT get out early yesterday, I worked until after midnight (was working from home). Then this morning I worked from 9am to noon. But it's all done and all that's left is the printing on Monday. I find that if I leave things in the middle for a few days, it takes me a half day to figure out where I was - I do an excellent job of forgetting. Now I have to hurry to catch up. Wanted to go to the farmer's market to get some fresh tomatoes and a local butcher shop for some fillets and bratwurst. Today's the only day they will be both open. Gotta clean up and get out of here before DH gets busy on other stuff. I will be back later. Love to the chicks. Enjoy your holiday and your weekend too Shad. |
Morning all,
It's cool and blowing a gale out there and we got blown home from Sydney last night. Flight from take off to landing usually takes an hour and 5 minutes however last night we were late getting off the ground but were back on it under the hour and somewhat bumpy it was too! Still it is going to be a glorious blue sky day, so I'll be able to get on with things I think. First off is some vegetables - so it's off to the homestead markets and then some housework. It's untidy, not dirty. Then I need to pay a couple of bills and a bit of weeding won't go astray. Following that there is some down time and it will be spent outside with a book if the wind permits. Tomorrow is back to tiling with a vengeance. DS2 is off to a mates place to measure up for concrete etc - they are about to extend the pergola area and build in the garage to make some more rooms, then put in some shade sails for the cars. Not all in one day I might add. So that's my weekend planned out - back on the plane Sunday night for Sydney again. No congratulations required on the 2 week extension Mel. It was offered and I only accepted because I had some 5 days accommodation paid for on the apartment which I couldn't get refunded. Now I have paid extra for the last days. I'm not putting up with the paperwork involved to extend every 2 weeks. It's so stupid. If they want to extend me again, then they will have to let me work from Brisbane and go into the Factory down the road every day or work from home when I can. Happy - happy swimming and shopping etc. And also to all my American friends, most of whome won't be on line during the 4th July celebrations - have a great holiday weekend. Be grateful for what you have and grab hold of it with both hands. Time to give thanks you don't live in Afghanistan, Korea, Iran or Somalia I think - or a dozen other hotspots around the globe. So I'd better get showered and on with my day. Otherwise nothing will happen and nothing get done. See ya |
Hello Ladies,
I hope everyone is enjoying there day. I was off today too. Got up early, went to farmer's market, picked up watermellon, strawberries & blueberries. Then off to feed store to pick up some tomato fertilizer, then off to Wallymart, to get groceries and last picked up some video. Several friends are having get together's today and tomorrow, but it is way to hot for me.. The temp was suppose to hit 102 today. I can't take the heat the way i use to, so i'm staying in today. Tonight I might go see the fireworks with neighbors or we just might watch from front yard. Luckily i can see the ones in town from my front yard. Yes, hopefully Ceejay and I can meet up, I hope nothing happens with her work schedule, she's coming next week to see her sister. Shad - sounds like you had a bumpy flight. I"m glad you got home safely. Sounds like you have a list of things to do. Happy - What a way to start off holiday weekend, working until midnight! I"m glad you got things to a point of being able to stop. Hope your farmers market has a good selection, my did. Mel - I"m glad you found us. I know this month has flown by... this year has. Take care of your eyes, hope you have a good weekend.. Mitchellez - enjoy the fireworks... |

Good morning chicks,
:bday2you: U.S.A. Nice picture Mel. I haven't seen live fireworks in years. Just too many people and the traffic is terrible. Like you, will watch them on TV if at all. We made it to the meat market yesterday. Got some delicious brats, pork chops and some beef fillets. We made a quick run to the farmer's market. DH did not want me to get a bunch of stuff so I just picked some tomatoes, green beans and cucumbers. We were both starving so as soon as we got home he put the brats on the grill and I made a quick cucumber and tomato salad. Potato chips rounded out the meal. Oh but was it good! We didn't get into the pool but last night sat up on the deck on the swing at twilight. We looked up in the sky and 2 bats were flying above us. Pretty neat to watch them. At one point they were flying a bit too low for my preference, but I know them flying in your hair is just a dumb rumour. We had the pool light on and the water was glowing a gorgeous turquoise. With the light gurgling of the filter, it was so peaceful. There were a few firecrackers going off, but they were mostly muted. I don't mind living in this town if I only stay in my back yard  Today is going to be a hot one (97 degrees) and then ... bam... cold front - 82 degrees tomorrow. They are talking severe storms. Be careful Ceejay - as usual your area is going to get slammed. Or have you left already to visit your family? Mel, I assume all the hulaballu about the roads is because of the fireworks show? I take it you can't see it from across the river where you live? They always show NY on tv - such a pretty show. I'm glad people are getting used to the idea that you are "semi-retired" and not bugging you so much. You have a great weekend Jersy girl - make something yummy with that good organic food in the kitchen :stir: Shad, you always amaze me. Work long hours during the week and then when you do get home you have a pile of house things to do. Hope you get some of that quiet time with a book. Good to recharge the batteries too. Maybe they won't let you work from home (tho I wish they would) can't come and snatch your doco to figure out how they should have installed things in the first place. What a FOOBAR this system is. Universally, across the world. Perhaps this is how armaggedon starts  Patty - the best fireworks shows are the ones you can see from your own front yard! You pick the best seats and you can't be the quick commute home  Yum on the fresh fruit. Are you sharing because I have a clean fork at the ready? :hungry: Michelle - did you enjoy the fireworks show #1? I see it's kind of rainy again up your way. Hope that didn't spoil the fun. Glad to hear the doctors have finally figured out a course of treatment for you. Get it over with before the winter aches and pains set in. :^: Jolly must have gone on a really looonnnnggg run. Haven't seen her in a bit. Annie, I'm sure skinny dipping is lots of fun but I don't think so. 1) Might scratch delicate parts on the nubby deck around the pool 2) We have lights around the perimeter of the pool so it's not completely dark 3) when you have a deep pool it can get very disorienting as to which way is up or down in the darkness. It's a very scary feeling you never want to experience twice. and finally 4) if my neighbors try, they can see into my back yard. I guess if I had a more secluded above ground pool, I might try it, but thanks for the tip. Does your lack of posts mean that you too have blown town and headed for St. Louis? If so, have a great time. Well, if I'm going to get into the pool after lunch I have some cleaning and laundry to finish up first. Have a good Saturday everyone and put some gusto into whatever you do. |

SILENCE IS REIGNING SUPREME HERE AGAIN TODAY. ONLY A FEW OF US WENT OUT TO SIT. WE WERE REWARDED WITH SOME SUN. I CANNOT TELL A LIE...WENT DOWN THE ROAD AND BOUGHT A COFFEE DRINK BEFORE HE CLOSED THE STORE. EVEN JOE IS LEAVING TOWN BEFORE THE NUTS ARRIVE!! I NEED TO FIND SOMETHING TO DO AND NOT WASTE THIS HIGH FROM THE CAFFEINE  HAPPY~ NO...WE CAN SEE THE FIREWORKS FINE...THEY WILL BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HUDSON RIVER...THAT'S THE PROBLEM. BIG BARGES WILL BE TOWED INTO PLACE. THE WHOLE WORLD WANTS TO BE ON THE RIVERFRONT!! YOUR DINNER AND NIGHT BY THE POOL SOUNDED HEAVENLY. I ENVY YOU...BUT NOT THE SOUTHERN HEAT!! BATS??? YIKES :bat: WHAT?? NO SKINNY DIPPING?? :swim: GET YOUR SWEATER READY FOR THE COLD FRONT. :brr: |
Where's Carla? Mel's hittin' the hooch ... I mean Frappacino's again. I know you love them, just 2 sips to savor - ok? You know how that messes with you my friend. Enjoy the fireworks sister. Tote that barge (or bah-gz as DH would say, you too I bet), lift that bale. Enjoy your sun and peace while it lasts. I'll turn the TV on tonight and we can watch together.
And bats are good. If it wasn't for bats, we'd be wading 3 feet deep or more in bugs. And I only let DH suck my neck  |
Feeling most embarrassed after being away for so long but life has just been kicking my butt with stuff - not health problems for me but too much other stuff, good and bad, happening. The current stressor is a big Church dinner tomorrow to fund-raise for a new roof for the Church. I've just finished 12 pies, 24 table centrepieces, a turkey and dressing and nine cabbages made into cole slaw. Hi to everyone and I'll try to get in here more often. My ticker is lying a bit - I'm getting perilously close to the dreaded 200 once again! |
Morning all,
And another glorious morning it is 'n all. Blue sky, bit of a breeze, sun is creeping into the yard. Time to move it along and get on with the day. Ruth - good to see you on our wee thread again. Maybe it will bring Carla back to us as well. Possible not. Seems like you have been busy with the baking again. Dang it woman, you should just open up in the Longhorn and get on with making a fortune. I fear it was Canada Day last week or sometime last month. I forgot to point towards Ottawa (but which way would I point?) and salute the Canadian contingent. My abject apologies. Hope it was a good day for all of you. Happy Independence Day Mel - thanks for the visuals. They had some on the river last night in your honour. Wish you had been here, we could have had a great time in town last night - instead I went to sleep on the couch. Getting old maybe? Don't mind bumpy rides in planes. At least it lets me know we are not plummetting in a smooth dive or going somewhere I have no wish to be! It's okay for luggage to end up there!!! Happy - Glad you didn't spend too much at the store or the market. One of my big weaknesses is picking up too much food and having to chuck it during the week. I don't have a problem with bats either. Some of them are actually quite cute. They had some remarkable abilities that humans have used, abused and improved - such as radar tendencies - so they have done their duty to mankind and should have earned respect and not fear. They have a purpose to life as do spiders. I would just prefer it that they stay outside and not inhabit my house. The spiders I mean, I don't think there are any bats in here, apart from those in my head. Hope Patty and Ceejay manage to find each other in the crowds of a holiday weekend. Have a coffee on me ladies. Gotta go, the tile box awaits and I still have some laundry to do. Back to Sydney tonight. |
Howdy chicks,
Nice of you to pop in Ruth. That's wayyyyy more stuff than I'd be willing to cook. Maybe 2 pies. Certainly not 12. Hope you raise alot of money. Shad, I suffer from the same deal at the farmers market. I see all the good looking fresh stuff and I buy it all up with good intentions. Then things change - sometimes DH is not very hungry or I have to work late and don't get to make something I planned - and things get chucked in the garbage bin. That doesn't make DH very happy. So I am trying to plan a bit better but even so, it doesn't always work out. I used to be afraid of bats too but then I learned about them and all the good they do. Fear is mostly based out of not knowing about them. Hope you are enjoying the weekend at home. Probably on your way back to Sydney by now. Mel, I didn't get to catch the fireworks on TV but saw pictures and they were taken across the river in your home town. Looked like a gorgeous display. Did you get to see any of it or were you all snuggled in by then? We got some storms early this morning. Didn't get much of a cool front in. It dropped a few degrees but it really muggy, sticky and uncomfortable out. We went in the pool yesterday but the water chilled a bit too much for me. I was only in about an hour and that includes lying on the lounge sunning like a lizard on a rock  I think I'm going to stay inside and do some deep cleaning today. Hope the rest of you had a nice Saturday and fun Sunday. Later chicks... |
