Stop smoking

I am finding this thread interesting. I would like to join the challenge re: cigaretts. I quit smoking 2 days ago... :carrot:

I am planning to enlist my self to quit smoking.

Shad 05-31-2009 06:07 PM

Day 1 Crunches done
Day 1 Water done.

No on to day 2

redballoon 05-31-2009 09:36 PM

ugh.....

Ah well....I have to take another pause on smoking and I feel real bad about that because I initially intended to not allow pauses. But, I have allowed smoking in one area of Tokyo when I am drinking and I drink in other places and don't touch them. I feel quite ill though today....drinking after the Derby....but I think the cigs are what have me feeling ill. I think there will come a time when I remember that they make me feel sick and I will be able to totally choose to stop it all ALL the time. But for now....well, that's the report. Good on sugar though and that involved neat little unmentionables I bought yesterday for people at the track and I didn't touch them myself. Hurrah!

Day 19 on No Smoking done, 2 pauses taken

Day 13 on No Sugar done, 2 of 3 pauses taken

**************

Shad -- Good for you! I did crunches yesterday too and may start a challenge (if I can get them in today)

miriam -- Hurrah on liftoff! :cp:

Lady -- Welcome! :welcome: Best of luck! :goodluck: I feel extra bad about allowing myself a smoking pause last night now that I see your post and your challenge to quit. When I finish this one, I'll do another round with NO pauses with you, ok? Oh, and Lady....you're ALREADY a flower, don't you forget it!!

Day 2 - checking in

Checked in with the scale too - WTH?? here i am eating soooo well, and gaining and gaining. GRRR

Red - wassup with the pause?! You're SOOO close to the end! But good for you on resisting the sugar.

Welcome Lady and good luck on breaking the ciggie habit!

Shad - here we go :)

Shad 06-01-2009 06:18 PM

unnerving day...

It was an unnerving day yesterday, but I resisted smoking again. I admit, I almost bummed a cigarette from a buddy out drinking. Yes, that is pretty bad as well and I am hurting for it today, but yesterday was a very decisive day for me as I turned in my notice at work. Yup. I have to the end of July but this is a definite. The company is asking for voluntary resignations and at least four other editors answered the call yesterday. It's scary but I've got to be brave.... :^:
Anyhow, the drinking from the night before screwed me up and I was dead tired but busy as ****, so then I just let go and reached for sugar, not even because I needed to but because it was there. Anyhow, it wasn't horrible and I walked 45 minutes home as well, so I don't consider it a failure. The smoking save was good.

Day 20 on No Smoking done, 2 pauses taken

Day 13 on No Sugar done, 3 of 3 pauses taken

**************

miriam -- Yeah, well, it's not pretty, I know, but the pauses happened. No excuses though. So, is your challenge just to check in? Well, whatever it takes to keep you on board, that's fine with me.

Shad -- Good glugging and crunching. I couldn't get them in last night....well, actually I forgot, but get me past today and I may be able to start up a crunch challenge as well.

Lady -- where are you? :listen:

Shad 06-01-2009 11:03 PM

Red, whether you like it or not, I think you have done the right thing. You haven't been happy there for a long time. It does not do your life, body, brain or anything else any good to go for a period of time in intense unhappiness.
Will you stay in Japan or move on now? I guess leaving Japan, the horse and the animals might be a bit of a downer as well. But is there work elsewhere there? I suspect it might be a bit hard, Japan being what and who she is - maybe you need to try to be an English teacher somewhere!!!!

Better get off here and get on with it. Life's not fair - I wanted to start into retirement this year.

Hi -

I'd like to join the challenge. I've got recurring back and hip pain and I am trying to get my fitness back after not exercising at PT's orders for over a month. I'm doing PT twice a week and acupuncture once a week. I want/need to work out 30 min/day at least 3x a week (which I do using a recumbent stepper at the gym)...but not sure how to put that into a daily challenge without 4 pauses a week.

So here's my challenge:

Eat at least 3 servings of veggies daily - 3 pauses allowed
Drink at least 60 ounces of water daily - 3 pauses allowed
Do Physical Therapy stretches and exercises daily - 3 pauses allowed
Walk at least 10 minutes daily - 3 pauses allowed

I know the walking challenge doesn't sound like much...but I can only walk about 6 or 7 minutes without pain right now, and I'm trying to increase that amount gradually.

miriam101 06-02-2009 12:17 PM

Day 3 checkin in

Believe it or not - just checking in is hard for me, but it keeps me that much more focused Almost as powerful as looking in a full length mirror, hehehe

Red! Gave in notice??So what's next on your agenda? Now that you've mastered some Hebrew - you coming to live here? ;) Good for you for persevering through with your challenges in this challenging time! One step away from completing the 21... And with regards to the sugar? Tomorrow is another day...

Shad- what field of work are you in?

Welcome Diyana! Sheesh - good luck on all of those challenges! I find that being accountable online really helps.

diyana 06-02-2009 02:01 PM

Hi everyone -

Just had my physical therapy appt, and she said I need to change my challenges. I'm not supposed to walk any more than absolutely necessary for at least a week....so that means no 10 minute walks for now. But she gave me more PT exercises to make up for it.

So my revised challenges are:
Eat at least 3 servings of veggies daily - 3 pauses allowed
Drink at least 60 ounces of water daily - 3 pauses allowed
Do Physical Therapy stretches and exercises daily - 3 pauses allowed

Shad 06-02-2009 06:10 PM

Day 3 done
Crunches done - no pauses taken
Water - glugged - no pauses taken.

redballoon 06-02-2009 08:43 PM

Hey all, no time to talk now.
I completed the smoking challenge!! Still have a week on the no sugar with no pauses left...ugh. I don't know if I want to do that...but I'll try.
