Talking Steel Magnolias -- #21

Good Evening, Flowers! I see we have rolled over to page 2, with 20 posts, so will start a new thread. It's been another chilly day in my corner of the world -- sunny and windy. I'm wondering if we are going to jump right into summer and forget about spring. I have my new computer and am having some issues with it. Our bell choir went out to eat last night as one of our ringers is moving away. When I got home I was too tired to mess with the computer and don't feel much like it tonight.

Susan -- No more Fridays off, but we do have 11:30 dismissals every other Friday until the end of the school year starting next Friday. I am so ready for school to be out, as are the kids and the rest of the staff. I know how much you enjoy Curves and think of you every time I drive by the one here in town. It's right downtown and there is never any parking spots within blocks plus it is next door to a Mexican restaurant where there are always drunks fighting. One guy threw another guy through the plate glass window last week. Perhaps you can answer a computer question for me. I had no trouble getting into this site. However, I also post on a Delphi forum and it keeps kicking me out and shutting down. Any suggestions? I did call the ISP last night and he thought that since I have 2 security programs on here (I think anyhow) that they may be fighting with each other. I have a couple of other questions so am making a list and will call the installer tomorrow. As near as I can tell I have a new virus and spyware program installed (no firewall), but they left the Norton program on also. I wish you were my neighbor!

I need to iron some shirts for Bob and figure out what I am wearing tomorrow. It is supposed to be cooler with some rain on the way, which we need badly. Have a fantastic Friday tomorrow!

Talking Friday

GOOD EARLY AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

Hope all is going well with all of you this day. It seems the older I get the faster the days pass me by so I really need to keep my FOCUS. We are invited over to one of our bachelor friends home tonight for spaghetti so I am eating real light this day. I am taking the salad and grilled bread so I do have the control of the dressing and the goop I put on the bread to grill it.

Not much going on here in the heartland this day to speak of so I will type at y'all later.

Good afternoon, ladies! Only 64 degrees today! I wish spring would come to stay. I'm afraid we're going to jump from the 60s to the 90s again. I look forward to a couple of months where I don't need heat or airconditioning so I have some extra money.

I went to the doctor this morning. She says she doesn't know anything else to do about my asthma so she made me an appointment with Dr. Haja, a Pulmonist. I'm sure it's more than asthma. I hate spending all this money for medication that is doing me no good.

Maggie, glad to see you post. My WW meeting finally got the hungry doll last week so I got one with the magnet and put it on the fridge and 1 bigger one I put by my computer. I'm going to get another one with a magnet tomorrow for my computer at work.

Jean, I had Norton on my computer when I got it. I took it off and put AVAST (free antivirus/firewall/spyware) on. It sounds like the website you can't get to needs to be added to the list of safe sites if you are sure Norton isn't still working. It could be they are fighting each other. You are right - I love my Curves. I'll be going there this afternoon.

I wanted to do some work on my quilt blocks but my sewing machine seems to not be working just right so I'm going to take it to the repair shop and get it cleaned and checked over. I hate being without my Pfaff, even though I have a Singer to use in the meantime.

Have a good day. I don't think WI is going to be good tomorrow - I feel fat.

Good Afternoon, Flowers! I have my new computer and think all the "bugs" have been fixed. I sat and watched while the computer guru fixed it from across town. That is so weird to see the screens switch around and I'm not running the mouse. It's a beautiful day here; my thermometer says 84 degrees, but there is a breeze so don't think it is that warm. I am so glad it is Friday!

Maggie -- Good luck at the spaghetti supper tonight! I need to buy salad goodies tomorrow!

Susan -- I'm sorry the meds aren't working for you asthma. I hope the new doctor will have the solution for you. Norton is gone; there were just shortcut (?) icons left in my unused folder. I was afraid to dump them in case "he" was still hanging around somewhere and I couldn't find him. The glitch was somewhere but the guy went through things so fast it made my head ! Whatever it was he was able to fix it without my having to take the computer back in. They use a virus/spyware system called CA and when I asked about a firewall the computer wanted me to install he said that Microsoft comes installed with a firewall. Our previous home ec. teacher had a Pfaff sewing machine and wouldn't use anything else. I hope the repair is nothing major. My mom had a Singer and she wouldn't have any other brand. I have a Kenmore with all the bells and whistles (because Bob worked for Sears at the time) and a Singer portable that I've never used -- still in the box.

I hope you all have a nice weekend! We have Kolby's birthday party on Sunday and tomorrow is laundry, a grocery run, and vacuuming at this house.

Evening ladies. Short post. We will be home tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait to share pics of the little guy! Sounds like everyone is a-ok! Won $66 at the casino with my sister and bought a handbag at their gift shop and gave most of it back! lol

Talk to you probably on Monday.

Good Evening, Flowers! It's prom tonight and has been raining off and on since late morning. I feel for the kids because it's a good walk from where they park cars to the door. I went to the grocery store and the Hallmark store, have the dishwasher, washer, and dryer going, so still need to vacuum. I hate cleaning on Saturdays but never feel like doing it when I get home from school either.

MIL is back in the hospital again. The nurse called just as we were sitting down for a quick lunch. MIL seemed confused, no energy, spilled some of her lunch down the front of her outfit, etc. After waiting 2 hours in the ER, they finally admitted her. When we visited tonight she is only on oxygen and thickened liquids just like at her apt., so I don't know what will happen next. Bob thinks she is just wearing out and possibly giving up trying to fight the system.

"Gma" -- Glad to hear you are having a good time! Coming home with a new purse is a bonus!

Hope you all have a nice weekend, and enjoy whatever you are doing. Tomorrow is Kolby's birthday party and Bob is singing at church so it will be Monday before I know it.

Good afternoon, ladies. 75 degrees today. I have my fingers crossed Spring is finally here.

I went to Church last night. The young man who was our seminarian for 15 months in 2007-2008 was ordained a deacon last night. Even though he wasn't from our parish when he went to the seminary, he asked to have the ceremony there because he likes us so much. Being ordained deacon is the last step before being ordained a priest. The Bishop and about 40 other priests were there. It was a very beautiful ceremony. They had to put chairs out in the common area because the church was full. We had a reception for him and his family afterwards. We have 2 levels of Deacons in our church. The lay deacon can be married and all that but the higher level is for those who aspire to be Priests. When the are ordained Deacon, they take the vow of chastity, obiedance to the Pope and Bishop, and poverty. There is usually 6-12 months being a deacon before ordination to the priesthood. We not only had our choir, but also from 2 other churches and William and Mary Campus Ministry.

I hung my sheets outside today. I love to do that.

My WW is having a 5K walk at the mall on June 6. When I go to the doctor tomorrow I'm going to ask if I can participate. I want to try, at least. As I expected, my WI was not the best, up 1 pound. But I'm on track.

Faye, good for you winning and getting a new purse. I look forward to seeing the pictures and your update.

Jean, we used to use CA at work until they priced themselves out of the network market...at least for us. Sorry to hear MIL in back in the hospital. Won't be long and you'll be able to do your cleaning during the week so you can really enjoy the weekends.

Hi, Maggie!

Good Evening, Flowers! I feel like all I've done today is get in and out of the car! Bob sang at church and I went to early service. MIL is back in the hospital so we checked on her between services. Took off for Sioux City and made a quick mall run, then to Target, and the birthday party place. After an hour of watching kids run, jump, tumble, eat cake and juice, we went to Beth's house for sandwiches. We were there about an hour, headed home, and went to check on MIL again. Not sure what the problem is except that she is confused and very weak.

Susan -- I used to hang my sheets out all the time. My clothes line was attached to the house and when we resided Bob didn't want to drill holes in the new (now old) siding. I can use my neighbor's if I really want to hang something outside. I love the smell! You will have the 1# gain gone in no time! Our chielf of police just became a deacon in the Catholic Church here. He and his wife sing in a lot of weddings and funerals at different churches.

I'm seriously thinking about heading for bed. I have card club tomorrow night and need to find some spring clothes to wear since the weather is supposed to be warming up.

Have a marvelous Monday tomorrow!

Good morning to you ladies! Home at last and trying to do catch up. I have decided we will always leave Indiana a day early, drive half way and spend the night then drive in the next day. We were home by one and I had everything put away, laundry sorted and started and had time to catch my breath, rather than getting home at 6 or after and everything dumped in the kitchen and living room to be put away the next day because we were too tired.

My house is filthy, but it will have to wait. I have errands to run today and I want to finish up the laundry and get it put away. So, I will clean downstairs tomorrow, clinic on Wed then clean upstairs on Thur and clinic on Friday.

We had a great time. Here is a pic of Jackson and granddad having a great time reading together. He LOVES to have you read to him. He is a thumb sucker and it is so adorable to see him sit and suck his thumb while you read to him. I took several shots and am going to buy a I love grandpa frame to put them in I think.

God bless them, Kelly and Tom survived Fortune. I was afraid he would drive them bonkers. He is s clingy and at night won't jump on the bed but stands and barks until you get him. He did that with them and she said sometimes they would ignore him and he would jump on the bed after awhile, but I feel bad he disturbed their sleep. He also likes to lay right next to you or even on you and I forgot to tell them that. Anyway, they were still living when we picked him up. I just appreciate them willing to keep him.

Jack and Jay got really sunburned at the game on Thursday. Jay's was really bad as he is much fairer than Jack. The back of his hands and his knees were awful and he was in pain on Thursday and Friday. He finally got himself some benzocaine and he said that helped a lot. Jack's nose is worse than anything else and still red. The rest of his face is peeling now and itching. He wore long pants so he didn't get sunburned legs.

Had a nice time with my sister for the day. She is a terrible backseat driver though and drove me nuts that way. I don't usually get to spend that much time with her so I am sure she really liked it. We won't be back up there again until November.

We took Jackson to the mall and had a great time. We went to the pet store and Jackson got a cookie to share with granddad, we went to the Disney store and Jackson got presents and then we went and played at the inside play area and he had a grand time. He is finally warming up to us and we were able to pick him up and such without him getting upset.

Well gals, I need to get back to work and get me some breakfast. We did accomplish one thing, I found out I love smoked salmon and Jack ate asparagus and liked it so 2 good foods for us to eat.

Have a great start to the week!

Good morning, ladies. Rainy and cooler today, but at least it is washing the pollen off my car!

Faye, I'm glad you had a good visit this time. Jackson is getting so big! Love the picture with Grandpa. If you don't have anything for sunburn, tea works great (tannic acid). I'm sure your house is cleaner than mine before you do any cleaning today. I keep it neat and the floors mopped or vacuumed, etc. but I just saw some finger prints on the pantry door this morning - and now there's no one to blame but me! I love a WW bagel (1 pt) with 1 oz. smoked salmon (1 pt), an individual tub of WW cream cheese (1 pt) and 3/4 cup of strawberries (0 pt) for breakfast. I also like smoked salmon chopped up into the cream cheese with a dab of horseradish and spread on wasa crispbread. I eat asparagus all spring long. Its nasty when its frozen or canned. It is delicious when roasted.

Jean, I'm sorry your MIL is not doing well.

I have Bible Study tonight. We are now into the New Testament so it is familiar territory and much easier to understand than the Old.

Have a good day!

Talking Mone-day

GOOD LATE MORNING THIS DAY MAGNOLIAS

It is in the mid 60's this day in the heartland. AH spring may just be here. The rain has stopped and there is new grass on the field. This is weigh day and it is not going to be pretty. I am having a hard time getting a grip. Too many "functions" with food as the focus have been happening around here. Folks do love to feed us. Makes me better understand what bulimics go through. Like Princess Di had all those dinners to attend and didn't want to gain so she up chucked them. Ick, I couldn't do that and so I do have to get a grip. No one can do it for me.

JEAN Sounds like your MIL's clock is running down. It is hard to see her slowly slip away isn't it. But there comes a time. Sheets ~ on the line. Just something nice about that. We do have a set of clothslines out back here that could use a little tightening up and I bet Will could take care of that. Not long now for you and you will be amoung us retired folks.

DONNA FAYE Girlfriend welcome back. I got a chuckle out of your needng to clean house. I imagine you must be the cleanest of the bunch. My place is lived in and looks good but I imagine I could eat off your floors. I can just picture little Fourtine barking to get on that bed. Thanks for sharing that picture. You have a good looking main squeeze.

SUSAN Isn't it wonderful how the rain washes the air and makes it so much easier to breathe. Your breakfast sounds yummy. I do like smoked salmon. Have smoked some in our smoker and it sure was tasty.

Well Magnolias I need to get busy doing something constructive. Type at y'all later. Have a good day, unless you get a better offer.

Good Afternoon, Flowers! It is cold and so windy here today. The sun has been in and out all day . . . confused for sure, I think. I have card club tonight. Usually we go out to eat or the hostess cooks, but no one said anything last month and the hostess wasn't there so we're meeting at regular time w/o supper. I had to call and ask. The hostess has missed more than she has been there this year.

Bob is home so will put together some leftovers that I didn't plan on eating with him. I'm anxious to see how MIL is today. She was not herself at all yesterday; couldn't put a thought together for anything and I keep wondering if she's had a small stroke. I would think they would have checked for that. It's almost like she is all out of any extra energy she may have had.

Have a nice evening and a terrific Tuesday tomorrow! There are 24 days of school left! :-) Sorry this is short and sweet today!

Talking Moan-day

BACK AGAIN MAGNOLIAS

I am so sad. I went to WW earlier this evening with cash in hand to buy "Hungry" and a magnet little "Hungry." They don't have any here. One of the gals said they could only order 5 of them and they are on back order and don't have a clue when they will get them.

Anyway I did show a loss though, of 1.8 which I am very happy about.

Later Magnolias

Good morning ladies! Today is clean the downstairs day and put away the last load of trip clothes. As soon as I get done posting I am going to start on the cleaning. I have to break it up as I usually end up with a backache somewhere along the way.

Maggie: I am not surprised that "hungry" is very popular. I imagine they will up production now that they have seen how popular he is. Hopefully you can get what you want soon. My house is a mess and is driving me nuts, but there is only so much I can do. I had a bunch of errands to run like restarting the mail, taking things to the cleaner, groceries, etc and trying to get the laundry done so the cleaning had to wait until today. Since I have clinic in the morning tomorrow, upstairs is going to have to hold on until Thursday. It is much easier to do actually except for dragging the vacuum up and usually Jack does that for me.

Jean: Our kids have 25 more days of school it looks like. The 27th is their last day according to Thomas. I am supposed to do clinic that day, but they may not need me to come in. Poor mil, I imagine she is tired of going back and forth to the hospital and such. It stinks to get old sometimes. I found the cutest thing for Jackson for his birthday (June 10.) He will be two and one of my dil's sisters brought him a fisher price type plastic car to ride in that is feet power and had been passed down through several kids. He just loves it so I am going to get him a battery powered one to ride around in. I bought Thomas one at about the same age. It has a little hatch in the front to put things in and even a cup holder. A funny story about his sand table that I bought him for Christmas. They took it into the house this winter and put snow in it for him to play with. Jack and I took him out into his back yard one day last week and it was on the patio with the cover on and snapped down. He wanted Jack to take the lid off so he did and Jackson looked in it and it was empty. He kept telling his granddad, "Snow, snow!" Jack kept telling him we couldn't put snow in it as there wasn't any snow. I told Jay he needed to get sand in his box for him so he could play in it as Nonny and Granddad were looking like grinches not having anything for him to play with.

Susan: Jack's asparagus was grilled we think. I always hated it but my dil says you have to be careful of eating the ends because they are bitter. I tasted Jack's and liked it. I do know you have to get fresh if you want it to taste decent and make sure you whack off the ends at the bottom. Do you put anything on yours like lemon, olive oil, garlic or anything? I want to include it in our diet now that Jack will eat it. I can't believe how much I loved the smoked salmon. It is so mild compared to what it tastes like from a can or as a steak. I will have to look for the ww bagels and cream cheese. I really like bagels but don't eat them because they are so huge in pts. I usually buy ff cream cheese to avoid the big points too. Maybe can find them at Walmarts.

I hear Jack is out of the shower and will be down in a couple minutes so I should go. Oooh, before I do I have to show you the yarn (it is called daffodil) and pattern for an afghan I am making for one of Jay's friends. He is Jay's best friend and like a son to us and he is finally getting married to a really nice, nice girl. We are very excited for them.

Talk to you tomorrow!

Good Evening, Flowers! We lost our sunshine late this afternoon; the clouds are rolling in and the wind is blowing. I hope the wind blows them right on through. School was SSDD again today. I won high at card club last night -- had good cards for a change and came home with an extra $2.00 in my pocket.

Bob finally got to talk to the assisted living nurse who had just talked to MIL's doctor. She has been "cheating" and drinking regular liquids when no one was looking, I guess. I've seen the thickened stuff in the hospital and it is gross. Anyhow, they have had her sedated so no wonder she has been in la la land. I wish the hospital nurse would have told us that. They will let her come back to the assisted living, but if they catch her drinking regular liquid she will be moved to the health center immediately. I know she won't like that. Bob tried to explain all that to her tonight, but she still isn't connecting the thoughts in the right order.

"Gma" -- The yarn is a pretty color; I'm sure the couple will enjoy receiving it and especially since you made it. I am at 23 days until school is out. I may work an extra day if they decide to move special ed. teachers around and I can help pack boxes, etc.

I am heading off to bed. Have a nice evening and a wonderful Wednesday tomorrow!

Jean -- from Iowa!
