Hi Ani!
Darwin is great! Still haven't experienced any sense of being 'homesick' yet and it is nearly six month since I got here. It is tourist season now and to a small extent I am playing the tourist part too. I have had a few evenings out with friends (Wow! I got some friends! Actually they are work colleagues, but they are good fun!). I have learnt how to gamble at the Casino! Been to the annual Greek Festival. Done the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets.
Consequently, this has all had an adverse effect on my weight-loss though. Don't know what I weigh just now, and I don't want to know. I do know my clothes are very tight, and I am feeling very uncomfortable.
I am still doing my junkmail delivery round, but need to consider taking out a life insurance plan if I plan on continuing for much longer. After the initial run in with the dog that resulted with a buggered up ankle, I was bitten by a Pitbull cross last weekend which has left me with a couple of rather impressive looking holes in my left shin! Yesterday I was bailed up by two aggressive dogs in a cul-de-sac. For someone who adored all dogs, I find myself having minor anxiety attacks if a dog so much as looks at me now! Dog owners - and I mean the owners - are out of control here! Most of the time they keep their dogs shut up in their yards, but for some stupid, insane reason, they think they can pop down to the shop for five minutes and believe their dogs will remain in the yard with the gate open!! Anyway, the council ranger and myself are now on first name terms and we must know each others phone numbers by heart now!
Food is once again my problem. I am still sticking to home cooking...the thought of microwave dinners sicken me now although they were what helped in my initial weight-loss. Problem with home cooked meals is I can't keep track of the calories as precisely as I could when I could read the info on the side of the box. But I have just discovered this website (
www.mealopedia.com) that provides a weeks worth of recipes that also shows the nutritional data per serve of that meal. You can set the paramiters for the type of recipes - I select 'budget', 'easy as 1-2-3' and 'freezable'. And it will even adjust the ingredients to the number of serves you want. And it will even write up the shopping list for the week! I cooked up my first meal from there last night and it was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L!
Anyway, I'll quit waffling on. Not sure if I am going to weigh in just yet, thinking not, but thinking it might also be the kick in the butt that I need.
I haven't read over what I have missed in my absence, so I hope all are well.
Welcome Danni! And good luck with all your plans and goals for this journey!
