August Activity Action and Achievement for the worldly chicks

Here we are in August. Year is just flying by and I haven't lost a thing - apart from my mind on occasions.

Lets rip into August with a vengeance. I aim to lose those two darn kilo still floating around before more come back with their friends.

Up and at 'em in August hey girls?

Good Evening My Worldly Chick a Dees..............

Took the day off of work. Went had my hair colored, picked up DS at his dad's then picked DD up at work, went to dinner with the kids and came home. Oh and DS and I went by mom and dad's before picking up DD. Mom had a bunion removed from her little toe that was fused to the bone. It looked yucky. She had it wrapped with gauze and a shoe boot thingy on. She could barely walk without that, now she is really in a fix. Anyway, I had chicken pecan salad on a bed of lettuce, tomato, cuke, cheese. Oh my goodness was it ever good. Yum Yum. We went to Paradise Cafe where they bake their own bread, cookies and build salads right in front of you, fresh. Homemade coutons and ranch dressing. I probably put 200 miles on my car. DSs dad lives about 65 miles away then had to drive back and go north around Indy to pick up DD. I am tired of being in a car and want to strangle someone.

Going out with the girls tomorrow night to a place called Britton's Tavern. Supposed to be a little bit classy but not too stuffy. Live band too. Hope their good, one margarita and I feel like dancing. Not that I can dance worth a poo, but you might say I move around and think I can dance. hahahaha Both kids are in a corn hole tournament tomorrow and probably won't make it home sober or even miss me. I am glad it is not me, tomorrow is supposed to be 93 and humid. It was so humid today, it looked hazy as heck, like someone just put out a fire and there was lingering smoke.

Oh heck, I am just babbling. I took two excedrin migraines (which have caffeine) and now I am finging off the wall, between that and the caffeinated iced tea I drank all day long. My head is feeling better, kind of on the light headed side. Hope to sleep good tonight too.

Oh horse hockey, the dryer just went off, I have a load of towels to get folded. No rest for the weary.

Everyone have a marvelous weekend, maybe will get back in here on Sunday, and fill you all in on the night out with the girls. Maybe I will me my prince. haha.

Love and Hugs

Hello ladies,

Thank you Shad for coming up with a theme and getting us into a new month. Year flying by indeed! Zooooom. Time is running like mad but it still seems like forever to retirement. We never seem to get closer.

I will promise you a renewed committment to the weight loss efforts this month. The more I read, the more I am starting to believe that my "fuzzy eyes" are not so much from getting older, but perhaps an effect of the pre-diabetes which scares me to no end. So I'm going to try harder than I have in a long, long time to get some weight off. I did weigh in the first of August at less than the 1st of July - not by much but by enough to start the momentum downward.

Well Shad, after reading your last post I promise not to complain about the office conditions. No matter how bad we have it, it does not compare to being squished into cattle class on a crowded airplane for 8 hours. :yikes: I am sending you good vibes that you get a decent seat - or at least an aisle :crossed: That is specificially the reason DH does not want to go to Hawaii. (Where my boss is now btw - hope she is having a grand time as she REALLY deserves a vacation after what's turned out to be a very stressful year). And I hate to tell you but youknowwho is not about to change her ticker, you will just have to disable signatures I think ;)

Annie - it sounds like you have a really fun weekend planned. I was watching Last Comic Standing and the last female comedienne did a bit on girls drinking and how after a few we get to thinking we are John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. What we THINK we look like and what we actually DO  My response is this is why Cindy Lauper wrote "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" - get it where you can and have a great time. Chicken Pecan Salad is the best. There's a great one at Portillo's up in Chicago. I miss it dearly. Hope Mom feels better - those orthopedic surgery boots are all the rage right now. Too bad you can't decorate them like a cast. And finally - lots of caffeine on an empty stomach and 2 Excedrin will give you a cheap buzz. An uncomfortable one, but one no less.

I guess I have gone on a bit of a quarterly spending binge. Ordered 6 pairs of shoes online - they have free shipping and returns so is not a big deal. Had to rotate 2 of them to different sizes - one a half size up, the other a half size down, 2 did not work at all. So really, I only bought 3 pairs of shoes. It's very hard to find something that is comfortable but not too clunky dunky. Found a new brand - Softwalk. They have an "egg crate" type of cushiony insole that feels wonderful. Was one of the shoes I had to reorder in a smaller size - I'm anticipating DH's reaction to what dah heck are you buying so many shoes for??????? I will beat him to the punch when we go to the post office to return 3 pairs tomorrow.

I also reordered 2 of my most favorite teas - one is Jasmine Pearls that I absolutely love. I am most grateful that they fixed the air conditioning in the office so that I can enjoy my cup of hot tea again. I also got some delicious cranberry melange which has bits of apple in it and makes the most refreshing iced tea. DH will enjoy that too. I still have a few tea samples in the cabinet to use up. I find that I didn't care for the black teas - too strong so I gave them to my sister. Some of the green teas smelled lovely (as does this cranberry one) but they were rather bland. Either that or I have to pay more attention to subtle tastes. Shad likes fragrant roses, I like fragrant teas

I ordered some books on keeping the brain and mental state in good health as well as 2 books on diet and pre-diabetes. The doctor's office never called me back with a dietician reference - thank you very much. So God helps those who educate themselves and I will also tap into my friend Michelle's resources ;) I did find an educational program that looks good at the hospital - had them call my doctor for a referral - will bug them again next week.

And then I wrapped it up with buying 2 pairs of shorts and 2 pairs of slacks. It's taking so long for them to get here that by the time they show up I won't want them.

I'd say I overspent :o I will have to be REALLY nice to DH

And that's kind of about it. It's going to get really hot here again. I should get off the computer and into bed. Told DH I'd help him finish weeding tomorrow and it will be best to get out early in the morning.

Good night for now and Happy Active August to you :trampo:

Mel
Why is your triglycerides so high?

Everyone have a good day and stay as cool as possible.

Does any one know how to link your 3fc journal to the forum?

I have already recieved a few phones calls and have both water/sewer and electric standby person out on call.

happy2bme 08-02-2008 10:28 AM

Happy hot morning chicks,

3 cats all looking for food in my yard this morning. Mr. Feral ate his fill out front and wanted more so he came in the back yard (where he usually eats). New cat Curly was non stop whining when he even thought food might show up and poor Boo was sitting off to the side thinking "I wish those :censored: would get out of MY yard :censored: Everyone was taken care of...

Mel - I will designate you Official Watchdog of Seasonal Innapropriate Tickers. Go off and do your thing :rollpin:  Yikes on the crazy woman showing up on your door. Just like stray cats at my house, I guess they know where to find help. Now why can't big, burly half naked firemen find their way to your door? Bummer on Richie feeling left out - Jen has to be sensitive to that, especially if he's out providing for them. Thanks for the sardine visual - that sure puts it in perspective. Was going to crop Shad's photo in there but thought better of it as we are a camera shy kind of group.

Ceejay - is it your journal or your blog you want to add a link to? I'd put it in my signature. Tell me which it is and I'll tell you how in a pm.

I was going to work on the garden this morning but I do have to get to the post office to drop off the extra shoes and I wanted to stop at the farmer's market. Running low on things since I didn't go grocery shopping last week. Both of these are Saturday only activities so I think I'll do them and work on the yard tomorrow.

Happy Saturday to all - drink your water and dance a little today just for the heck of it

happy2bme 08-02-2008 10:31 AM

Forgot to say  to the rest of the chicks

happy2bme 08-02-2008 10:36 AM

Ceejay - I just tried the link. You can link to the blog but not the journals. For some reason, the link to the journals just takes you to the 3FC home page. And since the link in your siggie is to the journals and not your blog, I wasn't sure what you wanted to do.

Maybe Ruth can explain...

ceejay52 08-02-2008 10:39 AM

Happy
I've managed to get it linked to the journals. I have one linked to the blog but I'm not using it as much.

happy2bme 08-02-2008 11:25 AM

I see - it takes you to the journal home page but not your specific journal.

HI!! Thanks for the Birthday wishes!!
Home from work. Heading for groceries. I missed a weeks shopping cause we were away last Sunday. One tends to eat poorly when there is not fresh healthy stuff in the house. We are out all day tomorrow too so I am shopping this aft. H and the kids are go-carting and at a water slide park today. It is PERFECT weather out there!! Thunderstormed all night. 24C , light breeze and sunny today.
I am going to try a Neti pot. My sinuses are giving me grief and headaches.

Hugs!!!!

Happy birthday Hollyhock.

Continuing my spending spree...

Lots of nice vegetables, some peaches and a watermelon from the Farmer's Market this morning...

Passport application (in case we decide to take that Rocky Mountaineer train trip through Canada)...

And we joined a gym  Hear me, I said WE :trampo: We were coming back from the Farmer's Market and I asked him to stop at the nearby Athletic Club. We took a brief tour and got some info. At first DH wasn't interested in joining  but in the end I wanted to join and he said he would come with me :yay:

It will mean getting up at 5am to get to the club early but I've done it before and it's way easier to go first thing in the morning than to find the energy to go after work. They have early, early morning classes and some evening ones too. I would like to do the Sunrise Yoga class. And try the eliptical without keeling over.

It's a month to month membership so DH can drop out later if he wants to. The biggest hole in my fitness plan has been exercising so I figured if I shell out the money, I will go. And I'm putting great stock Michelle in the fact that former exercise avoiders will see the light and become exercise junkies

They have an indoor and outdoor pool which is good. All the little monsters, um I mean kiddies will be in the outdoor pool, leaving the indoor one available for laps. And they reserve from 5am to 10am for people wanting to do lap lanes. They have lots of equipment, much of it new - machines, cardio, weights and the like. Enough to keep me busy. There is also a Pilates studio (with actual reformers) for an extra fee as well as personal trainers. I'm kind of excited. Gotta go find my gym bag now. Catch you later...

Ruthxxx 08-02-2008 04:50 PM

I was hoping my first August post would be upbeat but....

I am home from an overnight visit to Ottawa and dealing with a traumatized wee Disney! She met Shirleyanne's Bella a couple of weeks ago and things were OK after an initial growl from B.

This time though, Bella viciously attacked her the minute she got out of the car with me. What a Beetch a dog! !She is supposed to be mainly Lab but has that slightly "Pit Bull" look to her that Shirleyanne was trying to say was Boxer.) Anyhow poor wee Disney's head was in B's mouth and she was lifted off the ground and shaken several times. Andrea and Shirley had a heck of a time trying to get her off my baby. Disney was nearly OK except for a bloodshot eye and a bleeding nick out of her ear. Hershey was still in the car which is just as well or Bella might have been dead. Hersh protects her own!

As it is, B. is now in a muzzle and S. is probably going to have her euthanized this week. Shirl, Andrea and I had a good cry after the event and I learned this wasn't the first time Bella behaved like that! Bella spent the rest of the visit in the basement and Disney spent most of her time Velcroed to me. Very scary to see your dog's head in a big dogs jaws! We didn't cut the visit short but I'm glad to be home safe.

Now I've met some "nice" pit bulls but the damned critters were bred to fight and kill. Something set Bella off. It may be that Disney was small as she did something similar to a Jack Russel a few months ago.

I'm rather upset and so is my old friend Shirleyanne. Andrea, her daughter and my god daughter, is a dog trainer in Toronto and was absolutely horrified.
"Gimme a gun!" was her comment before we all started to cry.

Sorry for the bummer post. I've only had my wee pooch eight weeks and was darn sure she was going to die yesterday. I'm sure we'll all feel better tomorrow.

Shad 08-02-2008 06:23 PM

Have a nice big scotch Ruth, no ice and no bubbles. It's the additives that affect you. Poor little Disney. Maybe a small scotch for her too?

I'm making this short because I have a plane to catch and I will have to rouse the DS2 shortly so we can get on the road.

Weight = 79.9 this morning, so by the end of the month, I want to see 77.9. To think that a year ago I saw 72.9. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!

That woman's ticker is still there. It's like when you have a hole in a tooth - you are drawn to the spot.

So I had better go finish the packing. I'm packing some spare clothes into the carry on bag this time. Last trip, one of ladies checked bag went missing. When she got it back, it had been opened and she had an extra pair of socks. No sign of the man, only the socks. So she gathered all the paperwork together and when she got back to Aus she asked the customs officers to go all over it, take it to pieces etc., and they found a small package in the handle. Warning to all travellers, if your bag goes missing, carry the proof around with you. Mind you, we should all travel with an itemised list of stuff in the suitcase since it is very hard to tell in the heat of the moment whether anything has been included or excluded after your luggage has been searched. I have to because I am carrying a first aid kit given to me by the company which contains needles and medication for the days I step off into the wilds of Borneo or wherever. I wave ithe list at customs and declare kit every time I go through, their eyes glaze over but if I didn't, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on when they x-ray the bags.

Happy - well done on joining the gym. I'm proud of you. Do you have an invisible sign outside the door that states that waifs and strays are welcome here???

Mel - you obviously have 'compassionate person (except for Christmas) tattooed onto your forehead. All the NJ waifs and strays recognise it.

Okay - out of time. Gotta go. I'll be back when I have time in an airport to log on - probably Sydney later this morning. See ya

by The Viking Cooking School
Viking Chef Chris Green puts the Ruby Red grapefruits from Mission, Texas, to work in this recipe for Grapefruit Sorbet.

Servings: 4
Ingredients:
2 large ruby grapefruits, juiced, or 1 1/2 cups pink grapefruit juice
1 tsp. grapefruit zest (zest before juicing grapefruit)
1/2 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tbs. vodka
1 tsp. grenadine (optional)

Instructions: Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil and stir to dissolve sugar. Cool completely.

Combine the grapefruit juice, zest and sugar/water mixture with the vodka and optional grenadine (for color) in a metal bowl. Chill in the refrigerator or by placing the metal bowl over a larger bowl filled with ice water until 40 degrees.

Pour chilled mixture into the container of an ice cream machine and churn until frozen.

Scoop frozen sorbet into a container. Seal and transfer container to freezer for several hours to allow sorbet to firm up. (Sorbet can be kept frozen for up to 3 days.)

 BYE SHADDIE!! SAFE TRIP! WE WILL MISS YOU!!

RUTH :faint: :yikes:  WTF!!! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT!! PITS ARE PITS AND THERE IS NO BULL ABOUT IT. SO SORRY FOR BOTH OF YOU. HORRIFIED TO EVEN THINK OF IT!!

HAPPY...I AM HAPPY TO HEAR YOUR NEWS!! GOOD FOR BOTH OF YOU!! ENJOY THE GYM AND GETTING READY FOR THE NEW ADVENTURE! :ebike:

:yikes: OMG Ruth - how horrifying! Poor Disney, poor you. I can't imagine anything more frightening. Hope the poor pup will be ok. I'm glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

That's an interesting point about the luggage Shad and them stowing things in your stuff. There was a point in time when we could not lock our luggage. I think they have lifted that now with the caveot that if they thought it was suspicious, they could open your luggage with any means. Like most, we wondered about them taking things out - not putting things IN. And your emergency kit of needles sounds none too exciting either  I reiterate being glad you are the one travelling and not me. I can live without seeing Borneo, thank you kindly.

Just checked in for a minute. Good night all...

AND I MUST SAY, RUTH, I LOVE THE SIGGIE QUOTE. WISH MORE PEOPLE THOUGHT THAT WAY! HAPPY COOKING :hun:

SHAD....IMAGINE WHAT THEY COULD STOW IN MY CHAIR! :lol3: THEY CAUGHT A DISABLED MAN WITH A TON OF COCAINE INSIDE THE STEEL TUBING FRAME OF A FOLDING WHEELCHAIR MANY YEARS AGO. SEEMS LIKE HE WAS "WORKING" FOR YEARS THAT WAY :yikes: YOUR SIGGIE MADE ME LAUGH..BUT IS IT FUNNY TO YOU? :?:

HAPPY....NICE TO SEE YOU DROP IN AGAIN. AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING UP SO LATE EVERY NIGHT ???? :nono:

YESTERDAY WAS QUIET. ONLY SMOKE ALARMS AND NOTHING SERIOUS. I FORGOT TO SAY THE WEIGH-IN FOR THE END OF JULY WAS THE SAME 187. BUT THAT WON'T LAST. I AM BOUNCING AROUND THE 180'S ALL THE TIME. I HAVE LOST INTEREST IN THE SCALE. MAYBE ONCE AND AWHILE I WILL DUST IT OFF :lol3: :lol3:
HAVE A GREAT DAY. HAPPY SUNDAY/MONDAY :moped:

happy2bme 08-03-2008 09:06 AM

Hi kids,

It looks like it's going to be a cooker again outside. Even at 7 the heat just surrounds you. Ugh. I have to water the flower beds to loosen the soil so I can pull the weeds easier. Might just put the hose out on light spray and sit under it myself. Gotta remember NOT to wear the white T-shirt tho while doing that

Mel I was up late because I was loading DH's IPOD with his blues tunes. He lost his disk drive a while back and with it lost alot of his pretty butterfly shots as well as his music. So I was being the nice wifey and reloading it for him. You volunteer to do this then once you get into it realize how much work you've sign up for :faint:

On the agenda today... weed pulling, laundry, groceries, maybe a pedicure and some light cleaning. Sounds like a busy day, I'm tired already. And I need to plan my gym routine tomorrow so that when I get up at the ungodly hour of 5, my gym bag is packed and ready, I have locker locks and we are ready to get out the door by 5:20ish.

Happy Sunday ladies, stay out of trouble. :D

:belly: A RECIPE FOR AROMATHERAPY :yoga:

http://images.marthastewart.com/imag...envelope_l.jpg

1. Use our heart or butterfly templates, or make your own pattern. Graph paper is good for creating a grid design (such as the one shown at top left). Working on a cutting mat or piece of felt, lay your template over an envelope.

2. With a thick pin, punch holes through the template and envelope until the dotted design is complete.

3. Fill the envelope with blends of scented ingredients. We like the following combinations: cedar tips, cedar shavings, and lavender; orange tea and dried roses; and lemon verbena, chamomile and dried lemon peel. (Vary the amount depending on the envelope size; we used 1 tablespoon in the gift-card envelope.)

4. With a glue stick, seal the envelope.

5. Poke whimsical designs in your paper envelopes, then add your choice of aromatic blends.

CEEJAY...THEY DON'T KNW WHY THEY ARE UP SO HIGH. USUALLY IT DENOTES A TENDENCY TOWARDS DIABETES BUT NOT SO FAR. SOMEHOW MY BODY IS HOLDING ON TO ALL CARBS/SUGARS SINCE I LOST THE WEIGHT. YOU WOULD THINK IT WOULD GET BETTER RIGHT?? HOPE THE WEEK IS NOT TOO STRESSFUL!!

HAPPY...GO AHEAD AND WEAR THE WITHE T-SHIRT AND SHOCK THE SOUTHERN BELLES RIGHT OUT OF THEIR MINT JULEP FOG!!! :lol3: :lol3: I CAN JUST SEE IT NOW!!
YOU'RE SUCH A GOOD WIFEY LOADING THOSE TUNES!
:hohoho: I HAVE YET TO FIND THE OFFENDING SIGNATURE CULPRIT BUT I AM SURE I AM ON THE RIGHT TRAIL! :scooter:

Happy Sunday chicks --

I hope you all are enjoying your weekends. DH and I went to State Fair yesterday and had a great time looking at all the animals and enjoying the gorgeous weather. Today we had a relaxing day outside in the yard.

I have awesome news ladies! I saw the doc on Friday, and he was happy to inform me that I no longer have diabetes. He said I was borderline diabetic and caught it early, which was good. Anyway, my blood sugar is well within normal levels and he's so pleased that I was able to accomplish this with diet and exercise alone. He still wants me to check my blood sugar every 2 or 3 days and continue eating healthy and exercising so that I will continue to lose weight and lower my cholesterol and triglycerides...which are my next areas of focus. I'm so thrilled!! The name of the new thread mentions achievement, and this is a big achievement for me!

Annie - Sounds like you had a really nice Friday! I'm glad your migraine went away. Hope your mom's foot gets better soon. I hope you had a blast on your girls night out.

Happy - I'm sure you'll go great at managing your pre-diabetes. Don't be afraid....it is a disease that can be treated and managed and, in my case, reversed (even though I will always have to be aware that I am prone to high blood sugar levels). My goodness you really did go on a shopping spree. DH and I went on a spending spree of sorts at the Fair. We went to the building where all the vendors are selling stuff. We bought some cleaner that comes in liquid and paste that is supposed to clean everything and remove even tough stains and pet odors - worth a try. Then we got these big circular lids that can create a vacuum seal with just about any bowl or plastic container. And we picked up a set of 400 thread count sheets for $20 (king size). We had bought a set last year and just love them. They are so soft and silky. Good for you for getting your passport. DH and I just got ours. DH might be going to England for work next week (wish we could afford for me to go with him). And awesome news that you joined a gym!! I love working out at the gym much more than at home. There are so many distractions and things that need to get done at home. I applaud you for getting to the gym before work. I get up by 5:30 and go into work early....so working out in the evening works better for me. I'm so proud of you for committing to your exercise program! Hopefully, you'll find like I did that you feel much better by exercising regularly...and it will DEFINITELY help your blood sugar and help your body utilize your insulin more efficiently.

Mel - You really do have lots of excitement. All those people you take such good care of and look out. Make sure you take time to put yourself first now and then, okay? I hadn't thought about drinking Ensure when I am sick. Probably not a bad idea. I've never tried it though. My tummy was back to normal for many days...but today it reminded me that it's not 100%! My triglycerides are about 170...but my doc wants them under 150. He's increasing my cholesterol meds to lower my bad cholesterol and my triglycerides, and he's putting me on prescription strength Niacin (Vit. B6) and suggesting that I also take 1000mg of Fish Oil a day to help increase my good cholesterol (as exercise alone isn't increasing it enough). Good for you for taking the wheelchairs into the repair shop!

Ceejay - good for you for logging your food. I find that really helps. Especially now when I have to save my food logs to show to my nutritionist!

Holly - I hope the Neti pot helps you. I know several people who just swear by Neti pots because they help so much.

Ruth - Oh my gosh! Poor Disney!! Sad that your friend has to euthanize her dog. Shame that the dog is so vicious. Not all pit bulls are vicious - a friend of ours has one that is totally loving, but you are correct that they are bred to be aggressive. I'm glad Disney is okay.

Shad - I hope your flight to JK was okay and that your time there is productive and for the most part pleasant. Smart of you to pack extra clothes in a carry on. I've lost my luggage and it was a royal pain in the arse to get it back.

well, I've got to get the rest of my sunday work done before relaxing for the evening.

Love and hugs to all,

Shad 08-03-2008 08:52 PM

Morning all,

Holy heck - we have a list of achievements and it is only the third of August.

Michelle -

AWESOME LADY
WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT

Happy is on the way to gym - that's awesome too.

And my go advanced has advanced and gone, so I can't read the other posts.

Hope Disney is doing well Ruth. Was the scotch good??

And I'd better go and do some work or I'll be in the pooh later on in the week. I'll be back for personals later.

happy2bme 08-03-2008 08:54 PM

Hi chicks,

Checking in now as I'm not sure I'll be able to get in during the morning. DH and I are shooting for heading off to the health club in the morning.

:woohoo: Michelle that's the absolute very bestest news :yay: :cp: :carrot: you should be so very proud of yourself. This was truly a case of someone taking the bull by the horns and doing something about it. You didn't bemoan the fact that you can't have this or can't have that - just got determined and look at you now. highfive :high: and a hug :grouphug: I was thinking of getting a meter to test my blood - wonder if you can claim those on the health reimbursement accounts? I was wondering too if I can use my monthly gym fee for that too if I get the doctor to say that I am in serious need of losing some poundage. Anyway, I'm glad that you had a good time at the fair and got some decent weather. I see some storms but they look a bit north right now. That's quite a bargain price on the bedsheets. I have one set of 400 count sheets I bought a long time ago. They are starting to wear out but they are my favorite sheets. You just love getting in bed and touching them

Mel - you know that if you're going to polish up the chrome on the chairs that you have to also dress as a biker chick which means chaps with a thong or braless with a leather vest. Let me know what you chose AND the reaction in the office  I went grocery shopping today and FORGOT to print some of your recipes out :censored: I think I have the fixin's for some of them. I have one of those pumpkin carving kits for making the elaborate designs on the pumpkins. Could probably use that for the potpouri suggestion you had. I'd like to put a spoon of my new cranberry tea in it. It smells heavenly but is way too expensive to use for just smelling nice. But maybe 1 spoon in the envelope will do.

Shad the sardine, hope you made it safely back to JK.

Is Annie hungover? Or just the new disco queen?

I am sooooo tired. DH and I got up early and worked for several hours in the yard. It was very, very hot outside. We drank Powerade and ice water and I put a cooler of ice water out that he dunks a towel in and puts on his head. We quit around noon and it just wiped out both of us. I did shower up and head out and get a pedicure and pick up groceries. I got 2 loads of laundry done, have to finish 3 more and find my gym bag so I can pack it up tonight. Also have to put the dry goods away and make menus for this week. I had premade crab cakes for dinner - yum, yum and I made DH a chef's salad so dinner was a no hassle.

Gotta go log points into WW for the day and get the rest of the laundry going. Will have no problem with an early to bed night.

Goodnight ladies... sweet dreams.

Got up this morning and drove to Paragould to go to church with the relatives. We ate lunch and took my aunt for a little outing and then came back home.

My uncle is going to the wound center tomorrow. My podiatrist is treating him. He may have to have a skin graft.

Diyana
That's great news concerning the diabetes. I try to tell myself we are what we eat.

Happy
I'm glad you have decided to try the gym. Don't over do the first time.

MICHELLE...CONGRATULATIONS GIRL!! GREAT JOB. YOU MUST BE VERY PLEASED WITH YOURSELF! WOW!!! I JUST LOVE GOOD NEWS ON A MONDAY MORNING! STARTS MY WEEK OUR TIGHT!! :cb:

 HELLO SHAD

HAPPY....WOW THAT WAS SOME DAY OF SWEATING YOU HAD. HOPE EVERYTHING WENT WELL FOR THE EXERCISING. GUESS YOU HAVE BEEN THERE AND BACK ALREADY. :ebike: I'M ALREADY BRALESS MOST DAYS BUT I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE MEN'S FACES IF I STARTEDWEARING A BLACK LEATHER VEST...MIGHT EVEN CARRY A WHIP WITH ME AND REALLY GET THEM EXCITED....ABOUT WORK I MEAN!!

CEEJAY....HOPE THE UNCLE WILL BE ALRIGHT. THAT WAS GOOD ADVICE FOR HAPPY. I HAVE MADE THAT MISTAKE OF BEING GUNG HO THE FIRST DAY!

GOT UP EARLY AND SHOWERED AND HAIR DONE. I WANT TO GET ON THE PHONE WITH THE WHCHAIR PEOPLE ASAP AND I NEED TO FAX STUFF TO THEM FROM THE OFFICE.
WILL CATCH YOU ALL TOMORROW.
HAPPY MONDAY/TUESDAY :moped:

ceejay52 08-04-2008 10:05 AM

Popping into say hello. Will be taking it easy for the next 6 work days that are 12 hours each.

I've brought some 3 pound hand weights with me to work for exercise and also wearing my pedometer.

Ruthxxx 08-04-2008 10:24 AM

Michelle, that is just wonderful news! I hope you are really proud of yourself. I wish to heck I'd been as smart as you when I first got this weight problem. Once you get real diabetes, there is no cure, just control. I did hear that there is a type of WLS now that can cure Type II but I sure don't intend to have any surgery if I can help it.

Ceejay, 12 hour days sound horrible! I know your job involves a lot of walking. How many steps most days?

Happy, the great thing about working so hard in the hot and humid weather is cooling off later. I assume you have air conditioning down there.

Shad, the Scotch really hit the spot. Too bad Disney couldn't have any.

Mel, biker chick, eh? Maybe I could send you my metal bra to dress up for the guys.

Disney is still pretty nervous after her horrible experience. I didn't take her to Obedience class yesterday. We stayed home and had quality time on the front porch. I read and she lay beside me and had tummy rubs.

We had the garlic harvest BBQ last night which was great fun but I did indulge in a tad too much wine. Actually friends kept filling my glass - they do look after me.

Outta here in a few minutes to pick up some donated fabrics for a quilt top I'm doing for Victoria's Quilts. I sure hope I can work with the colours the ladies have matched up; otherwise I'll be buying some more.

I hope everyone achieves something spectacular this month - weightloss would be nice! I am going to a MOD meet-up in September and sure would love to be in the 180's by then.

diyana 08-04-2008 10:57 AM

Good morning ladies --

I was woken up at 4:30 am by a major thunder and lightning storm that knocked out our power. Power was still out when it was time to get up and ready for work, which meant no fixing my usual breakfast or lunch (I grabbed a whole wheat bagel, cottage cheese and fruit from the cafeteria for breakfast and will get something healthy - maybe soup and salad for lunch). I haven't decided about walking at lunch, depends on the weather. I've motivated one of my co-workers so much that she's now pushing me to walk...even today when it will either be rainy or hot and muggy!

I want to thank you all for your support, encouragement and congrats on my achievement! I'm really thrilled and proud of myself. I've got a ways to go before I'm done reclaiming my health, but I am on my way!

Happy - did you make it to the gym today? My blood sugar meter was free. I got it from the diabetic educator. And it came with a few lancets and test strips...after which I had the doc prescribe test strips and lancets...and yes, I do claim those on my health reimbursement account. I'm not sure if you can claim gym fees on health reimbursement...but the big thing is to get the doc to "order" as much as possible. Smart of you to have lots to drink and cool wet towels for working out in the yard. I've had heat stroke more than once while living in California and it's no fun, so now I'm always remembering to bring all kinds of stuff to keep me cool whenever we'll be out in the heat. Ceejay is giving you good advice...start slow and easy at the gym. Don't overdo and hurt yourself. The more fun (and less painful) you make it, the more likely you'll stick with it.

Ceejay - Glad you had a nice time in Paragould. Sorry to hear about your uncle...I hope everything goes okay for him. Sounds like you have quite a busy work week ahead...good for you for planning ahead and bringing weights and your pedometer to work for exercise.

Mel - good for you for taking care of your wheelchairs. So it sounds like you're opting for the leather vest with your polished chrome chairs! You go, girl!

Ruth - you are so sweet. Truth be told, I've had the weight problem for years and years and years. But it was only about 6 months ago that I noticed I was drinking and pee-ing more (and from having diabetic pets, I figured I'd better have my blood sugar checked - so I caught my diabetes really, really early - my doc called it "borderline diabetes".). It's good that you're babying Disney after her traumatic experience. What is a MOD meet-up? Is that for 3FC moderators?? I'm glad you had fun at your BBQ.

Shad - I hope you made it to JK okay.

A big  to everyone!

Love and hugs,

happy2bme 08-04-2008 11:01 AM

Good morning chicks,

Well I saw a number on the scale that I have not seen in a long, long time. :yay: Of course maybe that's the reward for weighing at 5am too

My peepers opened at 4:50 this morning even though I got to bed a bit later than I wanted to (could not find the darn bag of locks I had for the locker). I got decent enough to appear in public and woke up DH. We were out the door in the dark at 5:30. Mr. Feral was curled up sleeping in his bed. Miss Boo Kitty went roaming out the front door.

I walked into the club telling myself that today was the worst I would ever be, after this it is going to get progressively better as I get stronger. And no negative self criticism when catching glimpses of myself in full length mirrors. :dunno: Good thing I did a pep talk. DH and I walked all over the club looking for the locker rooms. Then we went back upstairs and got on the elipticals. Hah! I can tell you that FAT (which I have lots of) is NOT as strong as muscle. Ok so the eliptical is kinda hard. I knew that. I figured I could MAYBE do 10 minutes and would work up from there. HAH! 1 stinking minute. Yep, 1 MINUTE and I was a wheezin' away. I actually got 2 minutes done. With a break in between each minute. Meanwhile, DH is pumping away for 20 minutes at level 3. His first time on an elliptical which he has decided he likes. I slunk over to this arm machine - kinda like Mel's pedals but for arms. I did use it in physical therapy so I knew what it was about. Did 10 minutes on level 5 (started out at level 10 accidentally). It does help the arms as I had to shake them out when I was done. DH is still pounding away on the elliptical so I head over to the walking track. Got 4 laps in - 1/4 mile and quickly figured out that I have the wrong sneakers on. They are New Balance but not comfortable at all. By now DH has joined me on the track. I decide to go downstairs and get into the pool (the number 1 reason that I joined the club). I realize that the lockers we stowed our stuff in were way off from where the pool is so I walk back down the length of the club, go back upstairs to catch DH and tell him where to move his stuff (he was going to finish up in the hot tub). Then I trudged back down and did more walking and moved my stuff. The indoor pool is olympic sized :yikes: I guess they have swim meets there. And they have a moveable bulkhead which they sectioned off part of the pool. There were several swim team members swimming on the deep side but I was delighted to see that I had the entire shallow end all to myself. (There's an outdoor pool too). The water was just cool enough for a refreshing swim. I had finished 7 laps when DH showed up. He walked a mile on the lap track and said we needed to leave in 10 minutes so if I could finish up he'd wait outside for me. I went to get out of the pool and I realized I didn't pay attention coming in so I didn't know where the locker rooms were. No way I wanted to walk accidently into the boys  So I asked one of the attendants who was very nice about it.

Both of us enjoyed our visit there. We are going to go 3 days a week MWF and since we have to get back home and showered up by 7:30 we will have to get there right at 5:15 when they open up. On the way over, DH was commenting about how this was a good time to come because the streets were practically empty. We were very surprised to see about 40 cars as we turned into the parking lot. Lots of people like Shad out there at there at the crack of dawn. Oh wait, the sun HASN'T RISEN at that time in the morning yet

I have decided to do cardio and swimming at the club and do the weights on Tuesday and Thursday myself at home. Ideally, to do a full circuit I'd need about 2 and a half hours and I just don't have that kind of time so we'll space it out accordingly.

The pool guys are supposed to show up today and do some work. We'll see if they do. No sign of the cement guys.

Ceejay - I think that's a great idea to take your handweights to work. My friend does that as she is on conference calls alot. She gets a pretty good workout in!

Garlic harvest sounds good Ruth. Did they do alot of cooking (obviously there was some wine on hand  )

Mel - not sure Willie will let you on the bus with a leather vest AND a whip  He might be distracted

Shad - glad you made it in ok. Happy financing - if there is such a thing  or are we still struggling with the HR folks?

Morning Michelle, Annie, Holly and the rest of the lot.

I gotta go get busy now...

Ruthxxx 08-04-2008 11:01 AM

Yup - some of the MODs manage to get together every so often. Two years ago we did Philly and some of them were in Asheville, NC last year. It's nice to meet face to face and spend time together.
Aside from the MOD meets, I've met many 3FC members including our own Shad, Hollyhock and that missing in action Carla chickie.

Happy Monday Ladies........

Saturday night was one fun evening. Didn't get in until 1 am, which is late for my 8:30 pm bed time. lol. I didn't even dance once, however the company was good. I laughed so much and so hard. What a great time we had. Did not meet prince charming either.

Michelle....WOWSER BOWSER. Congrats on the no diabetes!! How awesome!! You deserved a great report as you have been kicking heiny girl. Keep it up so it does not come back.....State Fair sounds fun, I haven't been to our State Fair in about 20 years. I think it is too expensive.

Ceejay...you have some great goals there, and very doable. Make us proud and stick to them. Maybe Michelle will rub off on you.

Happy...Cats are sly and demanding sometimes. I think its funny how they can work you. I got my passport in January and it only took 2 weeks to get it. Govt is much better and quicker about it now.

Ruth...OMG Poor Disney. That had to be so tramatic for everyone. Hope she and you are feeling better.

Shad...Have a great, safe trip, my dear.

MEL...I love the recipes. Keep them coming. Black leather vest..shuweee, if I wore one of those braless, my boobies would hang out the bottom of it. hahahaha

Holly...happy belated. I am bad at birthdays, hope it was a great one for you.

Everyone have a marvy day.

Love and Hugs

Grilled Chicken with Lemon and Oregano

Ingredients Serves 8
1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from 2 lemons)
1/4 cup finely chopped fresh oregano (or 1 tablespoon dried)
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for grates
Coarse salt and ground pepper
4 chicken halves (1 1/2 pounds each) or 2 whole chickens, split
4 lemons, halved crosswise
Oregano sprigs (optional)

Directions
Make marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together lemon zest and juice, oregano, oil, 2 teaspoons coarse salt, and 1 teaspoon pepper. Divide marinade between 2 large resealable plastic bags. Place 2 chicken halves in each bag; shake to coat. Let marinate at room temperature 30 minutes, turning bags occasionally.
Preheat grill to medium; lightly oil grates. Remove chicken from marinade, and pat dry with paper towels. Place chicken, skin side up, on grill. Cover and cook, until lightly browned and cooked through, about 20 minutes. Turn chicken over; cover and cook until well browned, 10 to 15 minutes (an instant-read thermometer should register 175 degrees.when inserted into thickest part of meat, avoiding bone). If chicken is browning too quickly, move to cooler parts of grill or turn grill to low heat.
Transfer chicken to a cutting board. Tent with foil; let rest 10 minutes. Meanwhile, place lemon halves on grill, cut side down; cook until slightly charred, 8 to 10 minutes. Cut chicken pieces in half; serve with grilled lemon halves, and, if desired, garnish with oregano sprigs.
