Mayson 04-07-2008 10:23 AM

Beautiful weekend and Beautiful day ahead here in Ottawa. I am starting to see hope as the snow melts away!

Skinny Magee 04-07-2008 10:36 AM

Just popping on in between meetings here at work. It's GORGEOUS outside today...yay!!
I am down another 3 lbs...17 lbs since December 1st..I am quite happy about that :D

Mayson 04-07-2008 10:41 AM

Good for you skinny! Keep up the awesome job! :)

bopeep 04-07-2008 11:19 AM

It's still sunny and warm - the snow is melting fast! I feel like a five year old a xmas!!

I shoveled a lot of snow off my plants yesterday - there was way too much on them and it would have drowned them as it melted. I'll finish that up today. I think I'll do some errands too - any excuse to get out and enjoy this sun!

I've got one of those variable scales too - bugs the heck out of me! I weigh myself every day, and to get any sense out of it, I have to weigh myself several times and take the average.

BP

retiredone 04-08-2008 09:38 AM

Yeah!!! I wore shoes outside yesterday. Yeah!!! The roads and parking lots are clear enough to leave the old winter boots on the shelf. And with the mild weather the last few days the mountains of snow are receding and grass and pavement is beginning to show. I thought that would never happen. It's dripping and overcast today but not snowing. Everything is dirty, mucky and wet. Yeah!!! SPRING!!! I have plans for walking/jogging up and down the street as soon as it's safe (too much head on ice incidents). Yeah!!!!

Skinny Magee 04-08-2008 10:10 AM

It's supposed to be 14 degrees here today!! YAY! I may do my walk outside instead of the treadmill today.
Happy Sunshiny Day everyone!

JuliaDH 04-08-2008 10:21 AM

Looks like we may get rain this afternoon. I better get all the donation stuff delivered and out of the back of the truck quickly! It will have to be a rainy walk today! Kids got new rubber boots they want to break in!

meowee 04-08-2008 01:10 PM

Hi Gang . . .

Yippee for some serious signs of Spring. We are on our third day of sunshine in a row and the temperature is supposed to be 13 by late-afternoon.

Another yippee for me -- just got back from the dentist and Phase 1 of my Root Canal procedure was totally pain-free. Of course, I'm still frozen. Hopefully it won't get too bad later on. :crossed:

Daffy29 04-08-2008 03:34 PM

Hello fellow 'Crazies'! This thread was busy while I was gone and I seem to have missed out on the 'spring harvest' discussion with my fellow dog owners DRAT! Now, if I could miss out on the harvest entirely, that would be great!

Meowee, hope the tooth is not giving you too much discomfort. I've only had one root canal years ago, and I don't recall it being anything Advil couldn't handle, but I know YMMV.

So, how many Eastern Ontario/Ottawans do we have here now? I think I've counted at least 4...

This morning, when I backed my car out of the driveway, I saw the most South-facing corner of our front lawn, hidden from our view from our drive and door by the 4' snowbank. My tulips and crocuses (crocii?) are 2" tall! :carrot: The poor things are poking through all the yucky stuff left behind on the grass along the side of the street. I'll have to find a few minutes this weekend to rake that corner.

Another sure sign of spring: the playoffs start this week! GO HABS, GO! We are big hockey fans in this house and our team finished first when at the start of the season, everyone predicted they'd end up in the toilet! Of course, we're not very popular with our Senators-supporting neighbours this time of year, but it's all in good fun!

Have a great evening, everyone!

SeaWave 04-08-2008 07:37 PM

Re: weight scales -- According to my doctor's office, the only ones that are the ones you stand on, with the slider at the top. Unfortunately for me, I find it very motivating to see those numbers go down so I'm still looking for any recommendations! The best approach I've found so far is to weigh myself every morning, and take the week's average. I hate wasting money on something that doesn't do what it's supposed to!

Yes, Spring has sprung -- this week-end is the bottle drive for my son's soccer team! I'm really looking forward to them being able to practice outside, as the club is by one of my favourite walking spots (Green's Creek area, for anyone from Ottawa/Orleans).

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-08-2008 10:43 PM

:wel3fc: TO ALL THE NEWBIES ~ lots more coming in while I was away (MIA) for a while.

SAD NEWS ~ our other furry baby fell ill on Thursday or Friday and passed away at home on Sunday morning. We were devastated as we had just lost her mother 3 weeks earlier. But she went fast and we are glad she didn't suffer. We have lots of friends and family who are praying and supporting us and we are very grateful for that. With each day that passes our grief will lessen, and our faith in GOD is the rock that is holding us up!

They predicted a snowstorm for today and I'm glad to report that it didn't show. Ours roads are now clear, but the weather was very cold and damp. I went out for a bit to feed the WHISKEY JACKS but the air was bothering my lungs (a residue from that nasty flu I had recently). They say the storm is coming tomorrow but we are praying they will be wrong again, and the sun will return soon.

SEAWAVE ~ I bought a digital that weighed me much higher than the docs scale; so I know the frustration. I don't weigh myself too much becuz I get discouraged if it goes up or doesn't go down. Everyone has to do what works best for them.

Have a great week ... :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

meowee 04-09-2008 08:37 AM

Oh ROSEBUD . . .

Good Morning Chickies . . . :grouphug:

Another :sunny: day with double digit temperatures -- getting spoiled. Rain in the forecast for tomorrow, though.

Better get moving and shaking :carrot: We are going to do the great mall-crawl today instead of tomorrow because of the weather. See you later, gang.

Daffy29 04-10-2008 06:49 AM

Rosebud, my thoughts are with you. I know how hard it is to lose a furbaby.

There seems to have been lots of discussion of scales lately, here and elsewhere. I was curious about mine, so this morning I stepped on and off several times. It's digital, and gave me a .2 lb increase each time. Needless to say, I won't be doing that again!

We were supposed to get rain yesterday, but it didn't happen. It got windy enough last night to wake me at 3 AM, but this morning is breezy and sunny, with a few dark clouds on the horizon. It's been warm the past few days, and the snow has melted enough that our resident canine can no longer wander out of the yard. :broc:

Have a great day, all

Mayson 04-10-2008 10:42 AM

Hi
Nice sunny day here in Ottawa, but supposed to be a crappy weekend. Come on spring!

Tomato 04-10-2008 12:11 PM

Rosebud, so sorry to hear about your furbaby!

I guess we all have a different approach for weighing. I have decided I will weigh myself on the 15th and 30th/31st of each month. I don't know I could take the jumping of the scale results on an everyday basis. So far, I am resisting temptation to touch the scale.
I am quite worried about what my result will be on Tuesday, because my old shin problem started to bother me again so I have been off the treadmill this week. I did use the Gazelle one day and I managed to completely ruin my calf muscles (in just 20 minutes) LOL. Now I limp whenever I get up (I do walk it out after a while). I tried Pilates last night but it is a beginner's level and i find the tape so stupid - they waste too much time by yakking intead of just doing the exercises. I fell bummed, I may have to rethink the "I am not joining a gym" decision.

JuliaDH 04-10-2008 01:21 PM

Help!
I have housework to do but I want to go outside! But the work must be done since I played this morning and hubby is coming home so the place should look like I have not been goofing off LOL.

bopeep 04-10-2008 03:32 PM

rosebud - so sorry to hear about your second furbaby in a month!

This spring weather of the last few days sure has been a rollercoaster! I soooooo needed to see some sun and get outside without my winter boots (Shoes! Yea!!), so I've been mentally on cloud nine, but the allergies have started up again and I've been physically wiped out. I've been sleeping really badly and needing naps and no way have I had any energy to use my elliptical. I finally doubled up on my antihistamines and yesterday I started to feel better, but I feel like I'm half stoned :dizzy: I'll just hold on tight to my elliptical today and hope I don't fall off!

I spent the morning fencing in the back stairs for the upstairs apartment - they have two cats that have just started using my dirt as a litter pan :barf: I just finished cleaning up all the stuff from the neighbourhood kitties that had been able to get into my fenced yard - there was so much snow they could easily hop over the fence, and now that it's mostly melted, they can't get in. Once the snow's completely melted I'll let my two beasts out, and my little one is so territorial that she'll keep the upstairs ones upstairs (those upstairs cats are a big pair of wusses!). Hopefully that'll solve the problem - I don't mind the neighbour's cats coming down, but I'm about to start working in that dirt and I *really* don't like the idea of plunging my hands into s***!

I realized last week that my scale measures me differently if my weight is more on my toes than if my weight is more on my heels! Gah! Oh well, as long as I stand on it in more or less the same way, I can get a decent average.

Has anyone ever used the basic yoga for dummies DVD? I'm thinking of getting it. Yoga is supposed to really help with asthma (all that controlled breathing), but I'm not sure I want to go to a class full of fit yoga nuts and fall over flat on my face - I'm a bit of a klutz :o :D

Rosebud - so sorry to hear of your loss...

I've been stuck inside for three days with my son (who's had a migraine), so going out this morning was a real revelation -- the snow has mostly melted in our front yard! It's south facing, and all our neighbours across the street are jealous, because they still have a couple of feet of snow. :sunny:

Mayson - to share with your crappy week-end, I heard this morning that we might also get 2 cm of wet snow tomorrow. Oh well, at least we're not as bad as some folks who live further north! :D:

Daffy - your scale seems to be a single-use per day item -- don't fight it!

meowee 04-10-2008 08:13 PM

Sorry I haven't been around today . . . we've had a change in the weather and I've had a little migraine coupled with being overtired and having an upset tummy, too. Hopefully things will be better tomorrow.

retiredone 04-10-2008 10:32 PM

I can say spring has finally arrived. Not only can I wear shoes outside on the street but overnight the kids have appeared on bicycles. And today was so nice I passed a group of (crazy) teenagers in shorts and t-shirts. Too cold for that but tell that to a youngster. The snow that I thought would never melt until June is disappearing in front of my eyes and water is running everywhere. We're promised rain tomorrow and possibly freezing rain tonight but it is warming up.

CatHouseLady 04-11-2008 12:27 AM

Hi all

Hello everyone,
I'm a new member and Meowee kindly invited me to this group. I'm a Canadian woman, approaching my mid-50s and hoping to lose some 50+ pounds -- hmmm, that works out to about one pound per year of my age!

It's nice to be here and I hope to meet you all in time! :)

meowee 04-11-2008 08:47 AM

Good Morning . . . :grouphug:

The weather is still dull (supposed to stay that way until Tuesday); but I feel a lot better. :yay:

:welcome: to the group CATHOUSELADY . . . glad to have you joining us. Love your attitude, girl -- hmmmmmm -- I've already lost almost my age and still need to lose almost my age again.

Well, better get moving and shaking -- need to hit a couple of grocery stores today; but other than that nothing very exciting for me. Hope everybody else has a fun day planned. See you later . . .

Daffy29 04-11-2008 08:47 AM

:welcome: Cathouse lady  ...okay if I just call you 'Cat'? I laughed at the 'one pound per year' What part of Ontario are you in?

SeaWave, Mayson: we're all in Ottawa...when we finally get some reliable spring weather, we could maybe meet up for a walk every now and then?

Meowee, SeaWave, I hope the migraines have dissipated. I'm curious if the causes are known, because I had an awful headache through Wed and Thursday myself and just assumed it was allergy-related.

Retiredone: We haven't seen kids on bikes yet, but I saw my first youngster in shorts at the dog park on a sunny day we had last week...don't they feel the cold?

BP, I hope the allergies are better, and that no elliptical-related injuries were sustained...wouldn't want there to be any interruption in your counter-feline preparations ;) The city must be buzzing with news of the Habs resounding victory last night!

Julia, what won out? Housework or play?

Tomato, I'm curious...what's the Gazelle you referred to? In my area, we can get organized exercise classes run by the city for a set period of time, including Pilates. It's not a full-fledged gym committment with all that entails, but it might be a way for you to get started, if something similar is available in your neck of the woods.

An observation: this 'club' seems to be heavily Ontario-populated, and I wonder why. So what's your theory, folks? Serious or silly, let's hear them all!

Have a great day :D

meowee 04-11-2008 08:55 AM

Hi DAFFY . . .

Migraines are really not headaches -- they are just a pain in the head -- technically (at least in my case) called temporal lobe activity. Too many electrical synapses trying to fire at once. My main trigger is a change in barometric pressure -- usually when it is dropping, but sometimes when it is rising. Others may be triggered more by food or drink (chocolate and red-wine are famous triggers). Migraines are often accompanied by extreme sensitivity to light and noise and by upset stomach. I often get an aura (flashing lights just outside my peripheral vision) as a migraine is starting, but not always. For most people, no amount of normal 'headache medicine' will touch a migraine, although some do get relief from special meds (not me - just time fixes it). Anyway, if you suspect migraine, you really need to be tested, so mention things to your doctor.

PS -- The forum is heavily weighted to those in Ontario because that's where the largest concentration of Canada's population is. I think it's as simple as that. BTW, speaking of similar subjects -- Atlanticca has more heavy people per capita than any other area and Quebec has the highest percentage of smokers.

bopeep 04-11-2008 11:51 AM

Daffy - I'm going to risk heresy here and say that I hope the Habs lose and soon! I've been a fan since I was 6 years old (I was a Ken Dryden/ Guy Lafleur fan - but I guess we all were back then ), and I must admit I still kinda sorta hope they win again, but the reaction of this city is a wee bit nuts! The last time the Habs won, in '93, there was a riot downtown that scared the crap out of me (I live downtown) - the bicycle shop and jewelry store below us were looted (as were close to a hundred other businesses downtown) and people tried to break into our place while we were there. We no longer live on a main street so we wouldn't likely be so close to the scary stuff again, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I understand migraines - not fun! I get ocular migraines and they either will or will not (random) progress into the full blown ones with vomiting and all that fun. Even if mine remain limited to the visual funkiness, I also get this stop you dead in your tracks fatigue and need to go to sleep RIGHT NOW. When I feel one coming on and I'm out I have to head home right away because I *will* fall asleep. PITA!! My worst trigger is bright sunlight - I have to wear sunglasses at all times when I'm out. Fortunately they're becoming less common as I get older. I also get bad allergy headaches, but they're treatable with a bunch of aspirin and some antihistamines (usually). DH gets really bad headaches he calls migraines, but they're not - not that a bad headache doesn't hurt as much or worse, but they don't come with the 'extras' that a migraine does.

Every Canadian forum I've been on has been Ontario heavy. Even with its comparable population, Quebec is always under represented because many francophones are too underconfident about their English skills to participate in a written environment (I understand - I'll avoid writing in French if I can because while I can speak and understand French, I can't write it well). I've met a few Maritimers online, but not too many, and most of them are transplanted ones, like me

Today's tasks are to return the movie we rented (Sweeny Todd - excellent!!), get my rear back on the elliptical (I managed to not fall off yesterday!), and to veg out and play computer games. I guess I ought to do some more laundry too... and I also need to clean the front entry rugs... and I need to start putting the winter stuff away... oh well - so much for vegging! The weather is crappy today and I don't feel like doing anything outside.

So does that mean more well rounded chicks live in Ontario? :D I'm not in Ontario. I'm way out here on the East Coast where everyone is so svelt and slim. :snooty: I've recommended this site to several people but I haven't recognized anyone from my neck of the woods.

Daffy29 04-11-2008 03:16 PM

Hey Canucks!

EZ money has started the 'First annual 3FC 5K run/walk'. There's a link at the top of the page, just under the banner ad. I don't know how many Crazies have already signed up ('cause there's more than 19 pages of posts!) but I thought I would mention it here and issue a 'challenge' to my fellow Canadians to join.

I'll be walking mine on my treadmill on Saturday morning, with maybe a bit of jogging thrown in from time to time. The enrollment is closing in on 200, so get in while the gettin's good!

:woops:

JuliaDH 04-11-2008 03:27 PM

I signed up we plotted our 5k route last night. The whole family is doing it with me Sat afternoon.

retiredone 04-11-2008 09:41 PM

I'm jogging but I'm not up to 5k yet and I don't want to push it just to say I did it, especially since I've been nursing a muscle spasm in my right leg all week. I've jogged 5k four or five times every week a few years ago and I've only started jogging again. Hopefully there'll be a 2nd annual 5k next year. I'll certainly join in that one.

Chris 04-11-2008 09:57 PM

I just signed up for the 5k challenge. Will be walking 5k on Sunday morning.

Inline skated 3 times this week -- 15km each time. My legs are a bit sore. But I just love to skate so I kept going out to the path. Hopefully the soreness will go away soon.

Nasty weather for the weekend, rain, rain & more rain. But next week looks promising so I may get out skating 2 or 3 times during the week in addition to my 2 nights kickboxing. Can't hardly wait for the weather to be consistently nice.

Plan on doing a bit of clothes shopping tomorrow. Although I've only lost 8 or 9 lbs my pants are pretty loose and they look too big on me. I'm definitely down a pant size. I would like to pick up 1 or 2 pairs of inexpensive pants to wear. Hopefully there are some good sales around. I think I may try Reitman's first because they seem to have lots of sales. After that, maybe Sears or The Bay.

Anyway, have a good weekend everyone. Will check back soon.

Chris

meowee 04-12-2008 07:27 AM

Good Morning . . . :grouphug:

Looks like a dull and overcast morning followed by a rainy afternoon. Guess I'd better get myself out and aboutthis morning -- somehow I don't feel like walking even 1K in the rain.

Have a great Saturday, gang -- see you later . . . :carrot:

SeaWave 04-12-2008 01:32 PM

Hi everyone

meowee - I'm glad you're feeling better. I know how horrible migraines are, and wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy. Daffy - my migraines started when I was 17, until I was about 24, but only a couple a year with a clear aura, so easy to manage; started again after I had my son but with no aura -would wind up at the ER 4-5 times a month. When to the chiro for something else, and haven't had a major migraine since. My son is another issue. We suspect part of it is he's grinding his teeth at night, but another part might be like mine (barometric changes). Diet doesn't seem to affect either one of us. By the way, I recommend that anyone who suspects migraines start a detailed journal asap (time you get up, go to bed, exercise, what you eat). Doctors/neurologists use that to try to identify triggers, so time-saver if you already have one in hand when you finally get in to see them!

Bopeep - Once upon a time, my husband complained about a headache. When I asked him if he's taken anything he said it wasn't bad enough. I admit, my reaction may not have been wholeheartedly sympathetic. :tantrum: You just don't talk like that to a migraineur who's been to the ER twice in 3 weeks!

Daffy - great minds think alike! I too noticed that there are a few of us from Ottawa, and thought it would be nice to get together. There are so many great places around that are easily accessed. I'll to send you something off-line.

It's raining this week-end (and possibly a bit of that 's' word), so we're aiming to tie up a lot of loose ends at home and do some errands. The 'to do' list is forever longer than what I can accomplish, but between FlyLady and David Allen's GTD, I'm starting to manage better.

My success story of the week (and someone posted something similar on 3FC this week, but I don't recall if it was this thread - can't find it!): I went to the washroom and pulled down my jeans *without noticing I hadn't unbuttoned/unzipped them!* :carrot: People may have wondered why I was so gleeful when I came out of the washroom

Hope everyone has a great week-end!

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-12-2008 11:11 PM

 WOW ~ lots more newbies coming in at this time; how nice for us Canadians. We are in Ontario too, but in Northern Ontario: way up just below James Bay, near the city of TIMMINS. We had sunshine all day, but with fierce winds that left giant icicles hanging from the roof that look pretty menacing. It's supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so maybe they will all fall off, as our deck is already a sheet of ice tonight.

We have a house guest right now; a teenage puppy was delivered late one night by a visitor at 11 pm. He's an animal rescuer, and a neighbour who felt bad about us losing both our girls, sent him on an ANGEL MISSION ~ to find a needy small dog/puppy for us to look after.

Well, he came on trial and he sure is a going concern, but we are trying to give him a good home. He sure can use a break; he is blind in one eye, but that isn't slowing him down. Anyways, he is keeping us very busy, as you have to watch him constantly; but he has a very lovable personality ... and the training has begun ~ LOL!

Thanks to you all for your kind words and condolences about losing both our girls; they had good long lives but we miss them terribly. Now, we have this little fella, who needs lots of love and attention too! Have a good night and weekend ... :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

CatHouseLady 04-13-2008 02:02 AM

Thanks for the welcome, guys!

I didn't post anywhere here Friday because not only did I not go for any kind of walk (either at the gym or outside) ... when I went to work, I found that somebody had brought in a box of Timmie's doughnuts ... :o On the good side, I ate only one. On the bad side, it was an apple fritter ... and you know the size of those things!

Yesterday I hauled myself outside and walked some 4,000 steps, according to my pedometer. (OK, I did walk to a Timmie's, but I had only a bowl of soup with a bun and some tea ... not a doughnut, cookie or muffin to be seen on my table! :D )

My sympathies to those of you with migraines. The worst I've ever had is barometric-pressure-related sinus pain, and that's bad enough. I have a friend who does suffer from migraines, and how she manages to function around them I do not know.

Daffy, 'Cat' is just fine, LOL. I'm from the Niagara Region in Ontario.

retiredone: you're on! You're all invited to my 110th birthday party! We'll have triple chocolate cake -- we'll deserve it by then! :lol3:

By the way, I have a question: I signed up for a dieting blog, but haven't yet gotten a password. Is it like a siggie -- you have to be a contributing member for a certain length of time before they OK it?

The weather here yesterday was cloudy, chilly and rainy -- my kinda weather. I'm bracing with no enthusiasm at all for the heat and especially the humidity of a typical Niagara summer.

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

meowee 04-13-2008 07:52 AM

Good Morning Crazies . . . :grouphug:

My little corner of AtlanticCa is overcast again . . . but that's okay seems like a good day to tackle the taxes. :p

That's a really great NSV; SEA . . . :high: Keep up the good work.

Oh ROSEBUD . . . . . . So glad to hear about the pup . . . He can't replace the girls, but he can certainly help to ease the current pain.

Hi there CAT . . . I notice that you found out the answer to your blog question all by yourself. ;) I just love being a Moderator around 3FC -- so many people find their own answers :D and that means less work for me.

Speaking of me -- I hve a question for all of you -- I was watching the Canadian Home Shopping Channel first thing this morning and they have now got The Sleep Number Bed. I'm definitely due for a new bed and this sounds very good . . . does anyone have one? . . . or does anyone have strong feelings (either pro or con) about them?

Anyway . . . guess I'd better get about my business. Keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . see you later . . . :carrot:

Daffy29 04-13-2008 11:39 AM

G'day, eh?

I want to say that I hope no one interpreted my '3FC 5K' post as trying to push anyone into something they weren't comfy with...I just thought it was a great idea and wanted to mention it. If I went about it a little awkwardly, I do apologize. That said, Hurrah! to those who have done it/will be doing it later today! The carrot dances for you! :carrot:

Julia: Hope you had good weather for your family 5K

Retired: There's some talk of more frequently than annually, so I suspect there'll be plenty of opportunities.

Chris: One of the best things we can each do for ourselves is find the physical activity(ies) that we enjoy, and pursue them! Looks like inline skating is one of yours, so enjoy! Just be careful...

Seawave: Oh, what a fun NSV! Congrats! With the yucky weather, we decided to take in the Cottage and Big Backyard show at Landsdowne park yesterday. Three hours of solid meandering. The exhibitors were very happy with the weather. As for the walk, yes, PM me and we'll work something out; remind me to PM Mayson once we decide.

Rosebud: Glad to hear there's a 'little one' back in your life..."a going concern"...code for you are going to be very busy LOL :)

Cat: Timmies lists their nutritional content on-line. Apple Fritters are my fave, and I do treat myself to one very occasionally...they're around 300 calories, if memory serves

Meowee: I can't speak specifically to the 'Sleep number bed', but Spouse and I have been sleeping on one of those 14" thick air mattresses ( the ones that are popular as guest and camping beds these days) as our bed at the cottage for the past 6+ months. I weigh considerably more than she, so we keep it pretty firm. I have never gotten up feeling sore or achy, even after a long ten-hour marathon catch-up sleep.

My news:
Spouse is a burgeoning birdwatcher. 2-3 years ago, we saw our first Waxwings here, just a couple, and just for a few days. Later that spring, we came home to find one dead on our front deck. We suspect it hit our front window. We felt horrible. We hadn't seen any here since then.

This morning, I let out the dog and noticed a small flock of tufted-head birds in the neighbour's tree...more Waxwings! They are flittering about, eating the berries off vines in ours and surrounding yards. Spouse has gotten some good photos, and they have come very close and we've had some good observing opportunities. They are such pretty birds.

Some of you may recall we were having some canine escaping problems because of the deep snow. This week, the snow has melted and he hasn't been going visiting, so we thought we were 'in the clear' on this issue. Not quite. Neighbour was in her yard and the dog decided to go visit. She says he cleared her 5.5' high fence with about a foot to spare. "He looked like one of those horses jumping". Lovely. We have a canine athlete. There's still about 2' of snow on our side, and we're hoping that once it is all gone, he won't be able to clear the fence.

This is a sore point for us because our previous dog, a Saint Bernard, developed the skill to climb said fence, and it was quite a challenge to keep him home. He never went far, he would just go visiting in the neighbourhood, because he knew everybody. Looks like we have another 'social butterfly' on our hands!

Last but not least, I will be doing my 5K late this afternoon, since we altered our plans yesterday. Have a great day, everyone!

I can not believe it. It's snowing. :tantrum: Ok, so it's only a few flakes, but COME ON! Grrr.... At least it's supposed to be nice and sunny and warm this week - they're predicting 18 for Thursday!!

Daffy - a Saint Bernard climbing a fence!! Poor fence!

rosebud - I'm glad you got a pup to keep you busy! Losing two furbabies in such a short time is very hard - it's good you found another needy one to help you through

Meowee - I know a couple that bought one of those beds (he has a bad back) - they said it was ok, but really overhyped and they wished they'd just bought a good quality regular bed and saved the cash. I've never looked into this item myself, but my experience with researching other things before buying is that products that claim to have all kinds of bells and whistles are usually either cheaply made or don't live up to their claims. Do they offer a trial period with a full refund if you're not happy?

seawave - congrats on the big pants! It's so nice when you get a reminder like that that your hard work is paying off!

I got another happy shock with my scale this weekend - for two days in a row, my weight has been 179.something! I haven't been in the 170's for over five years!! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Time to go get more tea - I'm having a hard time getting my day started for some reason :coffee:

I'm envious of those running/jogging/walking the 5k, but my time will come. BTW, I don't feel any pressure when invited to enter a 5k-I'm pleased to get the invite.

I woke to snow falling this morning-great, big, fluffy flakes that covered all the green spots quite thoroughly. It's all melted now but it's not very warm out.

I read all the posts but there are so many people in so many threads that sometimes I'm overwhelmed by making a comment on everyone's topic. Just to let everyone know I'm not ignoring you. (Now, don't you all feel you have to make comment on me not making comment. :D)
