WooHooo REDA! :woohoo: You are one cool biker chick on that waaaay cool new bike! YOUCH! You Go Girl! I can see why it's hard to get rid of your old bike....but maybe it will be good to keep it too since the ride on each of them is soooo different. All I can say is WOW!
As for my new career....I do love it. It's the fact that they're always short of help that I don't like. Makes the days fly by, but when you have a lot of patients that are really needy (like those from the nursing homes) then it's a day that just makes ya wanna cry...and sometimes I do! :stress: I am exploring other parts of the hospital now tho...since I'm eligible for a transfer next month. Who knows what I'll find! |
Thanks a bunch. So what other department are you thinking? Short on help you know I have a good friend that works in a ??? (not really nursing home because it is younger adults that need assistants) anyways she is always working like 13 days straight with about 5 - 6 being double shifts because they are so short handed. Granted her checks are good but to me not good enough to not have a life outside of work!!!
Well very bored tonight working WSOP right now but really thinking about heading to bed because the 4 hours I got last night isn't cutting it. So have a good night! |
Hey Reda...love your new avatar pic. You are one sexy bike chick!!
Am thinking about maybe looking for a transport job for the ER, OR or Radiology. Moving people around the hospital would enable me to meet more people and find out what's available beyond that. A classmate of mine ended up as an Endo-Tech after a transport job. Ultimatly, I'd like something like that. Still patient care, but not the hard physical work I'm doing now. The down-side would be that I'd give up my three 12 hour days and go back to five 8's. I really love the time off that goes with the three 12's. Like next week I work Monday, Wednesday and Saturday....and many times I'll have 3, 4 or 5 days off in a row! |
Those would be awesome shifts to have, I keep pushing for at least 4 -11 hour days but still on 5 - 9 hour days, (salary so we have 45 hour work weeks) oh well. Ya so maybe not having the hard physical work will make up for giving those extra days off up.....Hopefully you come across a job that you will be interested in and it will have an opening for you to transfer to :)
Have a Great Day and Weekend, not sure if I will get time to log in tomorrow as we will be on a Charity Ride tomorrow. |
Hi Chickies!
We rode over to Cocoa Beach (about 98 miles away).....met our friends who rode up from Port St. Lucie and had a great lunch and visit at the restaurant at the end of the Cocoa Beach Pier. It's the first Saturday in a looong time that we were off work and the sun was actually shining! Boy was it hot! We both have burned arms and faces, but it was a wonderful day. We did have to ride through some of the flood ravaged areas along the St. John's River (from Tropical Storm Faye)...LOTS of water where it shouldn't be, but it's finally starting to recede now. How was your charity ride Reda? Anybody else out there riding this weekend? |
Charity Ride went great! It was really cold had to wear long johns and leathers and sweatshirt to keep somewhat warm..... But we had 32 bikes and 42 people with the passengers so that was awesome considering the weather the cold damp weather. We did only go about 150 miles but that was plenty in the cold.
Sounds like your ride had much nicer weather :) We are suppose to ride Wednesday after work but that was when we were suppose to have sun and 80 degrees but now it is 70 degrees and rainy :( It not much longer before our bikes have to be put away for those SD winter months :( |
I can't really fathom COLD at the moment. That bike is AMAZING, Reda!
Jill - hope you are staying dry. :D I've been riding, but nowhere exciting...unless you count work :p |
Hi Gina!
Nope I can't fathom COLD either...but I'd welcome a few days of COOL! Weather's great here...lots of sun now that Ike is headed west. May ride a little this afternoon.....HH and I are both off today but are working both weekend days this week. Yep...Reda's bike is waaaaay cool! |
Are non-diet motorcycle questions allowed?
Hey chicks!
I can't believe I found this thread. I'm taking the motorcycle safety course (the one that the Motorcycle Safety Foundation offers) this week to learn how to ride, and I'm petrified about the range classes this weekend! I can ride on a bicycle, but I'm not so sharp on the turns, and I'm afraid I'm going to make a fool of myself. Can anyone give me some insight into how the riding part of the course goes, if you've taken it? The turns look they require a lot of balance. I'm the only woman in the class, so I REALLY don't want to make us look bad!:( |
Hi Mahalia -
:welcome: Of course non-diet motorcycle questions are allowed!! :D I strongly suggest riding the course multiple times in the off hours at the DMV. I don't know what state you are in - but here in CA, the course does require balance and control especially in turns. I'm the voice of experience here - I first passed the test in 1985, but somehow one of the times my license was renewed the M Class part of it got dropped. I ended up retaking the test a couple years ago and failing it the first time. :o Quite embarassing for a gal who thinks she can ride. My only excuse was that my clutch wasn't really adjusted properly...making speed harder to control at low speeds. One other point - I don't know if it's an option, but it's easier to pass on a smaller bike, even better a twist and go (no clutch). :goodluck: And remember - it's a class for beginners....chances are the dudes in the class are as nervous as you...even if you might not be able to see it. |
Welcome Mahalia!!!
Safety course what a great course. :) I took it as well and learned alot. Our safety course provided Honda 185's and 250's very small, manageable motorcycles. We don't have a DMV course here to practice on because here our DMV just gives you headphones and they drive behind you telling you to take a left, right or stop what ever they tell you to do you do then when you get back they tell you if you passed or failed. Safety course here though gives you a certificate once you pass the driving and written with them then you take that to DMV and pay $8 and they put the motorcycle endorsement on your license. Mahalia let us know how the course is going for you. Your safety course does not provide the motorcycle? We started from scratch as well we partnered up with someone and pushed each other to get the balance thing right before we could even start them up. Jill glad to hear Ike is over and you get to ride some. Gina and Jill thanks for the great comments on the bike:) Well we did put on our long johns and leathers and headed out Wednesday after work it was cold but no rain. I actually rode with DH because it was windy and the thought of rain in the dark on a new motorcycle well I would rather do that in daylight the first time on new bike then at dark and over 60 miles away, so DH had a passenger, me of which he likes:) Well we are suppose to get some nice weather later this week like upper 70's low 80's but then rain and wind again over the weekend so looks like I better get some riding in during the week. It is probably only weeks away before the thought of SNOW:( But with the snow means winter vacation is approaching, we leave for cancun for 8 days Feb 3rd:carrot: Have a great work week everyone! |
Hi ChickS! Welcome Mahalia! How'd that motorcycle course go for you???
What's everyone up to this weekend? HH and I are both off work so today we're planning to ride to Florida's west coast and have lunch at our favorite Greek-American restaurant along the clear waters of Homosassa Springs. Weather's good....just in the 80's today, so a teeeny bit cooler. |
Jill 80's a little cool, :) I am laughing because we are having 70's during the day and 50's during the evening hours already. I did also get to do some riding this past weekend the new bike is going good, I think I may be able to sell my other one since I have been riding this one and haven't even got on my white one since buying this one. I am having a blast with it though.
How was your ride to Homosassa Springs? Geez where is everyone else on vacation still???? :) Have a great day and week! |
Yeah...where IS everyone? I finally get back here and they all disappear!
Ride to Homosassa was great, as was our lunch at MargaritaGrille! We miss our riding buddies who are in NY, tho. They will be here for Daytona Biketober Fest tho and we're looking forward to that. Riding weather should be perrrrrfect by then...cooler and dryer since our rainy season will be over :-) Glad your lovin' your new bike, Reda....you look absolutely awesome on it!! |
I survived planning a 50th Wedding anniversary party for my parents. I will not be taking up a career in party planning anytime in the near future. :P
It turned out fairly well, tho. No fatalities. :D I haven't been on my scoot for a while, it's leaking oil again and I need to get on the ball and order a part before the rain starts. I've been on the bicycle quite a bit...saves even more on gas than the scoot. Jill - Daytona sounds like FUN!! Reda - how ya doin, chickie! Holly, Reb, ollie ollie oxen free! |
