Luurve duck and have it reasonably often. I'm a bit like Carla with the duck, I tend to barbeque it so I don't have a mess to clean up afterwards, only I bbq it skin side down first! . Or I roast it on a rack to let the fat drain off. but yum anyway. Never tried it on a string - what happens when it flaps it's wings - flies round in circles???

Quiet lot since Happy went! Not much clucking overnight. Holly is probably on her way as well, happy trails to both of you.
It seems we are coming up for Canadian thanksgiving where Turkeys abound and quiver and the leaves continue to fall. Happy times to our Canadian ladies.

Another weekend at work coming up. I need to get as much done as possible because:
1. Train the trainer starts in 4 weeks and we are not ready
2. DS1 comes to visit for the weekend on November 3 and I refuse to work that weekend.
This year is moving past so fast it's incredible. I'll have to think of things for Christmas soon. Aaaarrrggghh. Mind you the huge majority of Christmas presents is sorted. The boys are coming over for Christmas and I am paying the airfares. That's their Christmas presents done.

Anyway - that's it, I've run out of time to do anything more for the time being. I'd better go before someone decides that you lot are pornographic again.

Hello Ladies,

Happy - have a wonderful vacation. Are you all camping or seeing the sights of Nashville?

Ceejay - what type of challenge are you doing? I know what you mean about the motivation. This past month I work hard at eating clean and I only lost 6 pounds. I was somewhat hoping for 10lbs.

Shad - I"m sure it will be nice for boys to have to do the traveling instead of you. I can't believe Christmas is only 2 1/2 months away. OH, I"m short... 5 ft 1-1/2 inches

Eating was out of control today. Travel to business meeting, rode 2 1/2 hours 1 way for a 3 hour meeting. Of course they bring food in, all good, couldn't pass up plus desserts. Have got to get back on track tomorrow.

Sheesh! I'm soooo behind but will just check in anyhow and try to find time to read later.

Yesterday was a terrible day - overbooked but not really my fault. Things just worked out that way. Today I will stay at home and will probably screen my phone calls. I have cooking to do and the cookie making marathon has begun for the Church sale on Saturday. Lord, give me strength! I'll make the PB ones first as I dislike them and will glug water most of the day. One taste of a raisin or nut and I'm gone!

Have a gold and blue October Thursday. The early fog is burning off and it's glorious out there!

Can't remember the name of this hydrangea at the moment but isn't she gorgeous in her fall dress?

Like Ruth, this is just a quicky. Was a busy day yesterday sorting out travel plans and doing, heck, work. Not sure why I am so exhausted this week, but there you go, am. Welcome Patty... And did I miss Painterwoman's birthday??

Happy BDay (belated) PW!!!! Hope it was wonderful.

I'll have to be back later to read in more detail and post more. Funny, but I was just thinking about Suzi the other day. Glad someone thought to give her a head's up. I miss her positive attitude and hope the world is treating her kindly.

Here are my other "hopes" for today:

That those who are or will be traveling arrive safe and sound and have a great time

That Mel enjoys her tour of the world and doesn’t get jet lag – especially when she is working the weekend. May all those foreign scenes be a break from the stinky roof and construction woes.

That Ruth can ignore the siren song of the fresh-baked cookie. Try chewing gum while baking (nasty habit but it does work).

That Shad gets a ton of work done and manages to hoard time for her DS1. And we are not pornographic – just a little off-colour

Oh dear, it seems I have a meeting to go to. *sigh* Later chicks.

Mel, I wish I could come down there and grab you for this weekend. You could really add to the Canadian Thanksgiving celebrations with your upbeat attitude!

Hey, Madcat, goof off and hop the train to Kingston. You sound like you need a time off. Maybe some weekend?

Shy, I've cooked many a goose - and my goose has been cooked many times! Domestic geese are loaded with fat so I constantly prick them while cooking and pour off the fat from the pan. A wild goose is less fatty. The meat is just wonderful IMHO - all dark meat and moist. I imagine the calories are high but who's looking!

Patty, welcome to this group of worldly ladies - and I use the term loosely! It's nice to "see" you again.

Dinner (pork chops and peppers) is ready, I've made broccoli soup and hummus and will start the cookies in a minute. Hershey and I are going to have a coffee on the deck and savour the morning a bit.

Hollyhock, I can hardly wait to see you. There'll be lots to be thankful for this weekend, I'm sure. Hershey is awaiting your arrival and counting on extra petting and hugs.

Here's a picture from last year when we had lots of red in the fall.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes... it's not till Saturday.
DH had a panic attack when I (ever so casually) said, Oh, look I got birthday cards from Coldwater Creek AND the Dentist. His exact words: OH crap. When's your birthday?! Then he remembered. Stay tuned.

Happy-- Have a wonderful trip. I think taking time off when everyone else is going bonkers is especially wonderful.[QUOTE=1day@atime;1878175]Hello Ladies,

Welcome, Patty-- I'm in Plano and work in Richardson. Your exercise regiment sounds brutal! You must be a pretty tough cookie! If you are on the northside we could meet up. I used to go to curves but I hadn't a clue how to be moderate, so for now I'm going WW. I like the program and the fact that it doesn't contribute to my crazy thinking around food.

I was, however, very sad that THEIR scale only showed a .8 pounds loss. Mine at home was down 2.5.

Madcat-- do you still feel like a bride? It seems like yesterday we were all talking wedding wedding wedding. Hope all is well on the home front.

Shad, do let us know how the steep uphill trek worked out!

TTFN.

Morena

Where to start? Oh yes as always with beautiful Mother Nature. Ruth's photos I mean.

Ruth - gorgeous photos. There doesn't seem to be a jealousy or envy smilie so I can't put any in. Hope you and Holly have a grand time together and just keep on giggling and pulling us all to pieces for our idiosyncracies and craziness.

Holly - safe driving or bussing or whichever way you are going. Take photos.

Mel - glad Croatia was nice. They spent so much time a few years back trying to destroy it. I think that area of the world - Italy and the Adriatic might be my next big holiday. I might leave the phone call until I get home on the 26th since the immediate urgency has now passed. Is that okay with you.

Rennie - Goose is quite nice but lots of fat. We used to get them in NZ but I have to admit I haven't seen one here. No doubt if I went to Melbourne to the QV Markets they would have them there but they aren't very fashionable at the moment - they make very good watch dogs (watch geese??) and it's been known for them to break arms with a flap of the wing. My youngest son used to call them killer ducks. Duck is slowly becoming fashionable again so I guess goose comes next. They will probably call them something different tho' so we don't recognise the product until it appears on the table.

Painter - So typical of the male of the species. But no doubt said lovingly. Hope he thinks up something good. Mine was of the species that Rennie has. What do you want, what do you want, what do you want. Well if you don't like it, it's your own fault because you wouldn't tell me what you want!!!! To save myself time and angst I use to leave magazines lying around open at a picture of something I thought I could use or that would look good in the house or that I could wear. I never got any of them - no doubt the diamonds were a little out of the price range - but it did shut them up. I'm not going to wish you a happy birthday until tomorrow which is the sixth over here - even in Western Australia, the Wait Awhile State it will still be the sixth.

Okay, while I've been on here, I have been texting with Suzi - who is much faster at it than I am. She is okay - had a very busy year and thinks I am sweet to remember that her birthday is around now. Huh? Mel's doing isn't it? I've said I will ring her when I get a spare moment and that I am in Perth, no point in ringing me at the house. I keep you up to snuff with the details.

And that's it from me for the time being. I had better go and do some work. Yesterday was not a productive day for me. I've had better. I did climb the hill on my way home from work and I will do it again tonight. I should take some pics of the hill - it's as good as any of those in SF only shorter. But the prize for steepness has to go to Wellington NZ's Rawhiti Terrace which is almost impossible to climb and cars have to use second gear and the milk vendor used to have to take the van up backwards and there were no steps cut into the footpath.

Catch you all later.

Hello Ladies,

Ruth - I remember you from the SouthBeach forum, or from the general chitchat one. What beautiful scenery you have up there.

Painter - I worked in downtown dallas and live in Rowlett. Your not to far from me. It's took me years of talking about my weight and finally one day I decided to do something about it. I tried Ww before and it works but my problem is I would still eat unhealthy stuff... use all my points then be starving.. A .8 loss is still good. When you weighted this morning at home and had the 2.5 loss where you dressed? Your clothing makes about a 1 1/2 to 2 pound difference.

Shy - A PowWow sounds like a like of fun. Are you participating in any of the events?

Melody - got your good vibes, was not tempted to eat any junk or candy today.

Shad - hope you had a good climb up the hill today. Italy is beautiful. Went there several years ago, come to think about it... it was 10 years ago.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening..

Rennie,
I would suggest that the only place you would find them these days is in specialist poultry stores or delicatessans or maybe an Asian foodstore although those might be already destroyed with peking duck baste and msg. In other words - cooked Chinese style. Failing that, nip out to the nearest barnyard and catch your goose! Good exercise.
