I thought I taught you most of them when I was over there - such as 'tinge of green' in the traffic lights etc.

For my passwords - they are not too original. I use people, cats, dogs and add the age and species - eg. Shad15dog and when I update them, I simply change the age. Poor dog has moved years once a month for ages and ages. So has the cat. Me, my age doesn't change. I am ageless. But the kids grow up fast. All else fails and the system can't log me on because the password is in the dictionary or has been used somewhere in the last five passwords, I launch into Maori and the dog becomes a curi, and I change gender from wahine to tane etc.etc.etc.

Carla is lurking - I was wondering! Her avatar maintains she is no giant.

happy2bme 09-24-2007 12:44 AM

Good catch Shad. I tip my hat of ingenuity to you again Carla

I keep forgetting to check out the signatures and avatars.

After losing my post and getting hung up yet again, I finally signed up for the ad free forum here. So far it seems to be making a difference. $15 well spent. I don't mind supporting this website anyway - even if I did have to look at the ads. It's been great for us and I can't believe there's so much here for FREE.

Ok, I'm off to bed. Tinge of green was good Shad but I like the sound of squiz. Surely it has friends. :D

Shad 09-24-2007 05:02 AM

squiz
physog
gander
kark it
bit of a dag
boohai (pronounced boo-eye)
chilly bin
chunder
cockie
crash hot
Eketahuna
get off the grass

How many do you need/ want.
Try this http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~sarah/content/slang.html
These are all fairly common bits of lingo - full of fascinating traps for the unwary, eh cuz!

Shad 09-24-2007 05:12 AM

Spring - that was supposedly 1st September. But really it should start with the equinox. Haven't really caught up with it yet.

MELODY525 09-24-2007 07:53 AM

A FLY BY POST: MY FRIENDS MOM IS IN THE HOSPITAL AND IT DOESN'T LOOK GOOD BUT THEN SHE HAS REBOUNDED MASNY TIMES BEFORE. GOING TO THE OFFICE TODAY. HAVE A GREAT DAY :moped:

RUTH~ WHAT WORDS CAN I SAY. I AM SO SORRY TO HEAR THE NEWS AND SENDING MY LOVE AND HUGS. I AM JUST SORRY YOU'RE ALONE.

HOLLY~ SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT GRANDMOTHER, SENDING GOOD THOUGHTS HER WAY!

 A FAST WAVE TO EVERYONE ELSE. I AM ON THE RUN. SHOULD BE A QUIET DAY THOUGH. THE ACCOUNTANT IS NOT COMING BACK TODAY.

Ruthxxx 09-24-2007 08:06 AM

Thanks, Melody. I am not alone. My friend Claire is here and is going to be with me when we go to the vet. Lucy is very sick, sad and still and is giving me the "Help me" look so it's time. We are just waiting for the vet to call and give us an appointment.

And I am not changing my avatar - Lucy will live on beside Hershey just like Shad's Shad.

For the first time in years, I'm not wearing mascara!

Hollyhock 09-24-2007 08:38 AM

ONTARIO, Canada- a gorgeous province in the fall.

((((Ruth))))

ceejay52 09-24-2007 10:43 AM

Ruth-Friends are nice to have around during this time of tradgedy. You still have Hershey. ((((hugs)))))

Mel-Don't work to hard in the office today. Did the accountant get through?

Happy--I've not had any trouble since I've been ad free. I didn't mind paying for this web sight. The sisters have done alot and they deserve to be paid. It's not much.

Shad--I use the name of my sister's pets since I don't have any for my password.

It's been a busy morning. It's time to get back to work.

Hello to the rest of the group.

Shad 09-24-2007 07:43 PM

Morena,
And a big gentle hug for Ruth and Hershey who are in my thoughts today.

Mind you, this cyber scotch at 7.30 in the morning is a bit over the top!!! But at least there are no calories in it!

Mel - take it easy in the office okay. There is no need to do everything in sight all at once, eyes are precious. Hope the friends mum is okay or that whatever needs to be done gets to be done.

Ruth - It has taken me this many years (4) to even think about changing the avatar. It takes time to heal and there are lots of things which we should not change just because Lucy is physically not there. Here's a wee poem for you with thanks to Jan Cooper

HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR
My best friend closed her eyes last night,
As her head was in my hand.
The Doctors said she was in pain,
And it was hard for her to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled her in my arms.
Were of her younger, puppy years,
And OH...her many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

Mel - the argghh was as you so rightly surmised for work. There is more noise and trouble coming. I'm up to my ears with it and something has to give. And I had better calm down before I make some very rude noises around here. My temper is a slow but terrible thing.

Ceejay - pets are really good for passwords. They don't mind you using their names either.

Holly - Wish I was there to see the Autumn colours. I was up in Japan a couple of years back and the colours were so fantastic - just incredible. Whole hillsides coloured orange and brown and yellow and red with a bit of snow peaking out the top. I don't think I will ever forget the beauty of Shira Kawa Go - although I might forget how to spell the name of the place.

Right - a quick gander at the journals and I'd better go do some work.

:grouphug:

Shy Moment 09-24-2007 09:36 PM

Thought I would stop in and say hello. Hope everyone is doing well. Still can't kick this cold. Going to sit here and do laundry tonight so I will be checking the new posts.

happy2bme 09-25-2007 01:42 AM

Hope you feel better Rennie. Take some vitamin C followed by a nice cup of tea as many of the ladies would recommend here.

Shad - that was a wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing it. You sound kind of stressed out lady. We have to find you a new job. Tour guide at the Grand Canyon so you can be near your buddy out west. Tour guide at Graceland BUT you are NOT ALLOWED to criticize the items in the gift shop. Since people here can no longer seem to stay in their lane or one their side of the road, perhaps we can get you a job driving a bus. So what if occasionally you forget which side of the road you should be on, no one will notice and eventually you'll catch on. :bike: We can get jobs passing out wine samples at the liquour store. We can chase all the bratty, ill-behaved kids out of the butterfly tent at the zoo (except that's a volunteer only job and the tent will be closing for the season in a few weeks). You like caves. Alot more than me :hyper: :yikes: We have lots of caves. You could be a cave tour guide. Do you see a pattern of tour guide jobs here? That's because 1) you have a neat accent 2) you are used to herding the masses about and 3) you get along pretty well with people. We'll give Mel a whip or a rolled up newspaper or just a good old fashioned :rollpin: and she can keep the stragglers and mis-behavers in line. I daresay tho that the pollen down here may get to her so we might have to relocate to the desert. Thank you for a whole new list of words I can pepper my conversation with :blah: :?: :gossip: :chin: :dunno:

Ceejay - I'm so glad you suggested the ad-free option. It really is MUCH better navigating around here. I don't get stuck like I used to. Except where I peek at the journals where ad-free doesn't apply. Did you have any luck finding the rest of the furniture you were looking for?

Holly - I was thinking Ontario too. I'll bet it's just breathtaking in the fall. I think you posted some pictures last year. Ontario in October suits me. Did DD have a good birthday?

Ruth - I know this has been a very difficult day. Our hearts are with you in your grief. Give Hershey some extra hugs, I'm sure she will wonder what's going on too and get some rest for yourself. :grouphug:

Mel - hope your friend's Mom pulls through ok. Don't fly by so fast - you got my hair all ruffled and it took 35 minutes of blowdrying to make it look like I have more than 12 hairs on my head

 to Madcat, Carla, Meadow, Painter, Nae and forgive me if I left someone off but it's really late and my brain is shutting down. Good night all.

Ruthxxx 09-25-2007 04:49 AM

Good morning, Sweet Worldly Chicks. I feel so comforted and cherished from all your messages of sympathy. I am sad about my darling but also feel a lot of relief as she definitely was ready to go. It was a graceful and peaceful exit. Shad's poem made me puddle up again but I'm really OK now.

I had a really early wake-up today - 2 PM, finished my book and finally gave up and got up. I suspect a booze bounce. It's all Shad's fault. She called me last night as I was finishing my pre-dinner Scotch (it was that kind of day!) and suggested I have another for her. Of course I did to be polite! Hershey and I dozed on the couch through some sort of TV thing and finally went to bed around nine.

Hershey slept with me last night - she's a bed hog. She's mourning Lucy, I know. When Libby went, Hershey went through this and Lucy was her puppy so... she'll be getting lots of extra attention, affection NOT food.

Fall on Ontario is gorgeous. The area I'm in is part of the pre-Cambrian Shield and we have tremendous fall colour. Right now there are tinges of red in the higher areas but full blaze will be Thanksgiving Weekend in honour of Hollyhock's visit.

You know, it's not yet 5 AM and I'm getting sleepy. I don't have to leave for my quilting class until 9 so I'm going to have a really early afternoon nap. Move over Hershey!

See y'all later.

happy2bme 09-25-2007 09:14 AM

Good morning chicks.

I made a big batch of this last night to go with the roasted chicken. Ummmmmmmm :T :T :T

A simple recipe, makes a huge batch and so very good for you. You can use whatever vegetables appeal to you. Enjoy.

Roasted Vegetables

WW POINTS® Value: 2 Servings: 10

Ingredients
1 medium yellow summer squash, chopped in chunks or half rounds
1 medium red onion(s), cut in 8ths
1 medium zucchini, chopped in chunks/half rounds
2 medium potato(es), cut in chunks
3 medium carrot(s), cut in chunks
1 large sweet red bell pepper(s), cut in chunks
1 cup asparagus, cut in half
1 cup mushroom(s)
1/4 cup olive oil
1 Tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp table salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp balsamic vinegar
1 medium orange bell pepper, cut in chunks
1 medium yellow bell pepper, cut in chunks
3 clove garlic clove(s), optional - chopped in chunks

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Take a bit of the olive oil and spread it on a large roasting pan.

2. To speed cooking time you can nuke the potatos and carrots to partially pre-cook. Cut the potatoes into chunks and place in a microwave safe dish. Rinse with water leaving just a bit extra in the bowl for steaming. Microwave potatoes for 5 minutes. Toss in large mixing bowl. Do the same with the carrot chunks but cook for 2 minutes for medium thickness carrots, 3 minutes for large, thick carrots. Toss in bowl with potatoes. Toss in the raw red onion chunks. We're going to cook the root vegetables first because they take longer to bake. Drizzle a bit of the olive oil into the bowl with the vegetables. Add chopped fresh garlic . Add salt & pepper to taste as well as parsley and a few drops of the balsamic vinegar. Mix well and put into roasting pan. Bake in 450 degree oven for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. De-seed the peppers, chop up the peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, yellow summer squash. Toss in mixing bowl, add salt, pepper, drizzled olive oil (just to coat vegetables) and parsley. Add to roasting pan and cook for 20 minutes. Give the pan a good stir so that the vegetables don't stick to the bottom.

4. Asparagus cooks up fairly quickly. If using this add it to the roasting pan for the last 10 minutes of cooking.

Total roasting time - 1 hour or until vegetables cooked through. A very simple recipe, the vegetables are delicious and flavorful. This makes a HUGE batch so you'll have lots of leftovers for the week.

Seal the leftovers in an airtight container as soon as they cool down out of the oven as they have a tendency to start to shrivel up if they sit out for a while.

Ruth sp nice to get a report from you. It helps to hear you sounding so well and thoughtful. You were on my mind for a while reflecting on how much I enjoy my little furry family. The colors here are changing the deer have stripped my lilac trees to stubs but they will come back next spring. Have good day and get that nap in when you come home from quilting. We have a new shop here and it offers some great classes. I just don't havethe time to do the projects.
Have a great day everyone!
Peace,
Nae

Madcat 09-25-2007 09:24 AM

I'd like to vote for October in Ontario too. Hey, my native province in the month of my birth... what more could you ask for?? Though it is frassin' 31 degrees C here today and humid!!! Those of us from this lovely area could even provide pictures as the month progresses (from glowing radiance to twiggy brown). We'll make Happy homesick for Chicago. :) Not much colour change down here in the south yet, but I think I saw a bit of yellow in the Don Valley the other day. I love fall: the colours, the cool weather and the stark blue skies. All that autumn produce. I feel like hugging a pumpkin.

Ruthie~ I was thinking of you all yesterday. Give Hershey a hug or 50 for all of us. I find it so interesting how far ahead the season is where you are. We are still in the fall peeping out stage. How great that Holly and you will be able to get together. I hope you both have a joyous time.

Happy~ You are too funny! I love the idea of Shad riding herd on a bunch of tourists. But how could she refrain from editorial comments?? Heck, I think travel writing might be her ideal job. Then again I think travel writing would be the perfect job for a lot of us.

Shad~ Thank you for the poem but I’m all weepy at work now. Of course that could be that I am at work. Happy is right. You do sound a tad pressed for time. Hope the projects sense of urgency isn’t making you too stressed.

Mel~ Sorry to hear about your friend’s mom. Hope she is ok and if not, at least your friend has a good shoulder to cry on.

I’d love to write more but I better get this day kick started. Be back later. Hi to Ceejay and Meadow and Holly and all the rest of the chicks that I no longer have time to name. Carry on kids!
