Some of you asked about the cake I took to the church dinner, and I said I'd take a picture. So here it is! It's 3 layers, and I got asked over and over how I did it, lol. It's done with a checkerboard cake set, and does take a little extra time, compared to a regular cake. Instead of using the dark pans that came with the kit, I used my own shiny pans, and like the results better that way.

Btw, I'm proud to say I didn't eat any of it. After working with it, I just didn't want any.

Jane, it looks delicious!!! What flavor cake did you use? I've done one with choc/vanilla.

That is an awesome cake! I used to work at a cold stone ice cream store and I made the cakes, it was such a fun job! Decorating was my favorite you could be as creative as you wanted!

Tammy - it was all vanilla with buttercream frosting. The pink is from food coloring.

I read that you could make boxed cake mix and use unsweetened applesauce instead of the oil...and then I could tint Cool Whip with food coloring and ice the cake with that...hey...but then I'd have to find a bunch of people to eat the rest after I have one piece. LOL! That cake is beautiful, Jane! I used to decorate cakes and it's so much fun. The colors you chose were really nice, too

When my first grandson is born in a few weeks, I'm going to make a blue and white one for the nurses on the maternity floor. Think they'll like that?
