Thought I'd get on and post a few items...

LISA, please do contact WINNIE, I thought your story with you wanting to be healthier for your family and esp. your son would be good. E-mail her and she'll e-mail you back a small questionaire, then probably call you-she's very sweet. As for the bathroom visits, how much fiber are you getting? It may be your system is clearing itself out from all the garbage you USE to eat-or, sometimes, during those TOM, I have the same problem. Hey, it may provide you with a loss! Heck, I'll take one any way I can!!! Runs and all!!

EVERYONE If you'd like to be interviewed for the book WINNIE is writing for Rodale, please, do e-mail her! I'd love it if she was able to use many of our stories, as we are all so unique and all have different stories to tell. Here's her e-mail address: [email protected] She'll send you back a small questionaire and then if she thinks your story would fit into the book, she'll let you know, actually, she'll let you know either way I believe!!

SAS-LOL! Okay, now I understand why no one said a word!

OVERCOME, thanks for the report on dinner-sounds yummy. I have some zuchinni I have to find something to do with before it rots-hmmm, zuchinni pizza crust or zuchinni loaf cake-let me think about that one overnight!

SPARKLE, I do hope you are right about the scale finally moving down, like I've said before, I go down 1 and up 2, such a vicious cycle!

Gonna run, Lauren's hungry, time to pull out some leftovers!!!

Later!

Debbie

Hi everyone

Had a good day at work to-day. Now off for 4 days so should be able to get a few chores done around here if I can keep my butt out of this chair. Spring weather is here at last. It was 72F here to-day and sunny although we had quite a thunderstorm in the early hours of the morning. But at least it was over before I rolled out of bed.

Melf - That sounds like quite an exercise machine you have. Did you make it to work this morning?

SolShine - What a beautiful picture. You are looking great.

Debbie - I looked at your menu for yesterday. I think you are getting enough protein and carbs but I agree with Cherie that you are not getting enough vegetables. The only one I see is the sweet potato. No other veggies or salad. I think you should add veggies and/or salad to lunch and dinner. I found the MEDIA RING site and will probably download it when I finish this post. I will let you know when I get it set up.

Lisa_A_A - According to SB it is not necessary to have fruit JUICE 1/2 an hour before a meal because it empties quickly from the stomach. The fruit rule only applies to the actual fruit. I think you need to add some more vegetables to your menu. Maybe add some at lunch time. Since writing this I have read your later post and it sounds like you don't need any more fibre at this time. The All Bran cereal would have a laxative effect. Perhaps you could replace this with another cereal that has less fibre. I think the veggies are important, not just for fibre but for vitamins and minerals.

Cathycathy - Some people do have trouble losing if they consume fruit juices - this is probably because there is more natural sugar in a glass of juice that there is in a piece of fruit due to the fact that it takes more than one piece of fruit to produce a glass of juice. If it doesn't appear to hinder your weight loss then there is no reason why you cannot have juice. I don't know about the sf jello being a "free food" but the fruit rule wouldn't apply. The fruit rule only applies to fresh fruit. Cooked or processed fruit is O.K. with meals.

Rhroo - Why would you scare everyone with that picture. It is a beautiful picture and you look great. Congrats on having a good day yesterday... KEEP IT UP.

Have a good weekend everyone

Marie.

Default I'm Backkkkkkkk

Hello to all you SB comrades!!!!!! How has everyone's day been?? Good I hope. I haven't read all the posts yet, so I am going to try reading and posting at the same time Well, the golf tournament was nice. It is really pretty over in Hilton Head. The 18th hole has the best view. The Harbour Town Lighthouse, all the beautiful yachts/boats, and the Calibogie Sound with other yachts and watercraft bobbing up and odnw on the waves......awwwww, yes, I am a saltydog at heart. The weather was perfect today, warm yet breezy enough to keep the bugs at bay. I am out of the loop though, when it comes to knowing the golfers- there are so many newbies I am unfamilar with. I must say, that mere 30 minute walk I took yesterday obviously worked me more than I realized. I could feel it while standing long lengths of time. Plus, I prob haven't gotten all my stamina back from the "crudd" As I mentioned in earlier post, poor DH is suffering from allergies, and he wasn't 100% today either. When we got home around 4pm, and he crashed in recliner. He was snoring in no time!!!!!! I had to adjourn to the bedroom to watch Guiding Light in peace. Then I dozed for awhile myself Ummmm.... I want to share that, well, uhhhhh, it was not easy being OP today I am NOT going to beat myself up, but felt I should share. I look at it like this. By Monday I have FULL intentions of getting back on schedule I was on before the cold knocked me down a few notches.

Marie - Sorry to hear you felt bad yesterday. I hope taking it easy last night got you back in the swing of things. Bell bottoms - well, I guess I will be out of style, I have NO desire to do that AGAIN!!!!!

Sara - We don't think of you as being a whiner. We all have or have had to deal with the likes of PMS right along with you. It can really suck some months. Pamper yourself, and you will be feeling like yourself soon.

Sol - Ok, this is a tad complicated. My sister has been trying over 3 years to get preg. She finally went little over a year ago to a fert specialist. In his "research" he has done, he felt that blood sugar levels play a part in ovulation, therefore, put her on it. It was a tiny dose...500mg a day. She may have lost 10lbs, but was a stick to begin with. Dr took her off of the glucophage last fall, and she had commented on how if affected her appetite etc.....

Fillise - Sorry to hear about the water/lbs prob. I bet by tomorrow you will be lighter and not swollen.

Viv - By the time I have read your post, I HOPE you haven't jumped off a cliff. Try not to stress so about the house.... I look at it like this, it just gets drity as soon as it gets clean anyway Really, I am only trying to put some humor in the situation. You will figure out what priorities go in what order. I don't have any Prozac... but can email you some Zoloft

Lisa - I do admire you for having the gump to give your son the chemo shots. Anyone would stress - if not pass out - trying to do that. You are a GREAT mom......

Cathycathy - Just wondering, are you drinking plenty of water???? You will start feeling better though. We all went through some sort of detox in the beginning.

Deb - Hope those blisters get gone soon. You are MORE dedicated than I am girlfriend

Ashley - Enjoyed your Happy Easter gif Good luck with hosting 13 people!

I am going to end this post before I get knocked off..... I have already gotten 2 "Do you wish to stay online" warnings. I will finish up the rest of the posts, and will prob be back

Default Hi from "Marilyn"

It's really more like "Norma Jean"

Went and got that wig today - My oh my! Husband promises to take pics for all to see! Need to go get some kinda booty/thigh slimmer to go under this dress too. May try control tops first. Gonna be fun.

Anyone else take Zyrtec? I think this stuff knocks me out about 4:30 in the afternoon. I'm a regular zombie!

DEB - emailed Winnie and got a response. Hope others will do the same. Sorry about your blister. I missed the post that said what you are doing for it. You know me, of course I have suggestions and tips, but don't know if you're interested. A lot of my running books and mages have info about prevention and treatment. Send me an email if you want more info. As you can see I stopped doing the Fri articles for the most part. Seems that not too many were interested in them. Maybe I was too long winded. I will be happy to resume if there is a resurgance in interest or folks can just post their questions to me directly on the thread. Hope your foot gets better soon.

BOB - Hope that you are still nicotene free. Here is a thought for ya. Seeing how I live in the "tobacco state," if you could see the majority of these little po-dunk places that these tobacco farmers grow that stuff on, there is no way you'd want to set fire to the tip of it and smoke it! TRUST ME! I'm sure those of you who've also visisted NC know what I'm talking about! Keep up the good work "Sis-tah!" Not too sad to see Amber go, I'm ready for Tina to hit the bricks. Just don't trust her. Hey to SKeeter!

SPARKLE - thanks for the chat! That was an excellent time on the 3 miler! Thanks for the OA sponsor insights. I always find that type of info helpful as it causes me to be introspective. You made me at the sports bra comment!

OVERCOME - Pizza! yum. I went and got that and several other recipes. In regards to your friend: Sometimes it is hard to change the perspective others have about the links between fat and wt loss and sugar and wt loss. I've experienced it too. If you want to help your friend understand, look back at the book or show her the section that talks about what you are referring to. All that really matters is what works for you.

LISA-A - Great that you were able to say to the Easter sweets. Great loss too!

VIV - I laughed at the suggestion to get caller ID. My sis said same thing. Thank heavens we don't have call waiting! Since we've been redoing the kitchen we will need a new phone, and it will be a cordless one with Caller I.D. I can assure you. Right now I have live Caller ID in the form of Mr. HB (Honey-Bunny).

RHOO - thanks for posting your cute pics! I LOL'd at you talking about the scale at the doc's office. I do that at work in the doc's office/exam room. I close the door (has no lock) and slip off my pants when they are heavy ones like denim. I always hope that he doesn't come in there to prep for the day while I'm standing ther in my thongs! that would be hilarious!

VR I think maybe I will frame those results. Had to get it outta my system this am during our commute by telling Mr. HB that I guess that "all that cheese" didn't hurt my cholesterol all that much afterall! He smiled and let me have a moment of smugness!

Hope all are well. Time for Marilyn, I mean Norma Jean to go get her beauty sleep.

Peace,
Frog

Default Evening all!

I'm sorry that I can't address each & every one of you, but I have been a little over whelmed by all the posts & doing the best I can to keep up, so if I miss you, please don't take it personal. I really enjoy reading everyone's messages, but when I'm on my long stretch at work, there's no way I can keep up.

FROG LOVER, Wonderful news about the cholesterol level. Yes, regardless of what SOME people think about this WOE, it actually does lower our levels of not only cholesterol, but also triglycerides too. It sure has lowered mine.

Debbie, Thanks for the encouragement about being a lb up this week. I know, you keep yo-yoing back & forth for a wile too befor it finally goes down. My feet are doing better & I'm hoping to walk my usual tomorrow am. Please take care of those blisters. They sound painful! I have a mental image you dodging cars in the dark with that strobe light flashing! Hey, I have 2 of those "TALK" programs on my puter, MSN lets you make free calls to either a phone, or a computer. Yahoo also lets you do the same. My MSN comes on automatically when I get online, so it's always on. My AOL IM doesn't & I often forget to turn it on. Now, about my exerciser, I put in all the info about it yesterday, but the name I will refer to it as is just plain CardioFit. It does a total body work out. It has been sitting in the spare bedroom & I really hadn't used it much cause I couldn't do it for very long, but as I said, I think that now I'm in better physical condition & seem to have better endurance & can do a decent work-out on it, so I'll try to use it more often.

StarChaser, That dizziness could be fluid in your middle ear. I have had that problem more than once. I hate it! If it continues, you should see a doc.

SolShine, You're such a pretty girl! LOVED the hat...LOL

ROSALIE, Hope you're feeling better by now & sure do hope you enjoy your time off. I just started my long hule. So you know what Plantar Fasciitis feels like too...wasn't that just the most horrible thing? And yes, I think mine was caused my my shoes too. Learned a valuable lesson no tto wear the same shoes for as long as I did before changing them. And I don't mind paying whatever it costs to have good shoes to work in. I do hope never to experience that again. It was nice to do the voice chat with you tonight on MSN. I really do like that program. I call my daughter in Texas using it & don't have to pay for the call. I hope you get good use from your program now that you know how to use it.

RHOO, Great pix...looking good, keep up the good work.

Lisa_A_A, congrats on the 5 lb loss. Great job!

VIV, Prozac does sound pretty good some days, don't it? Chill out over there....LOL Hope you have a better week-end.

Wishing you all a BLESSED GOOD FRIDAY. I have the day off thanks to a good friend at work that is working the shift for me tomorrow since she is off the week-end. That will allow me to spend the day with some of my family. I'll check in tomorrow, I hope. Good Night all

Hi everyone sorry not to have been around of late but it was getting too much so i'll check in as I can to catch up.

DITTO SPARKLE you put things into words so well and you so often voice my own opinions as I cant do myself
I also couldnt agree more about the sugar free life. I want to be free from the trap and obession and i know that if i attempt to go totally overboard i will set myself up for failure and only be swapping one obession for another.
I dont think its necessary either as long as you have some protien with your meal. Balance as always is the key IMO
I know that if I have a high sugar or sugar +fat only feast instead of dinner (yes i have been there and done that) i wake up with the same sort of a hangover as if I had been drinking

I read your days food DEBBIE and (only cos you asked ) thought where are all your vegetables??
You had a lot of protien there, I dont know if you need that much? but you add alot more bulk with low GI veges dont you think?
Isnt sugar busters very like the Zone where bulky unrefined carbs should make up most of the diet?

I am combining the WW point system with cutting way back on the sugarand it feels right.

I will be 41 on Sunday and feel rather blue about that. Slly isnt it. When i turned 40 it didnt bother me at all but i suppose everyone makes such a big fuss when your the big 4 0 its like something to look forward to. Now i just think ,hmmm... now Ill really be in my 40s.
I wont console myself with too many easter eggs i promise

Time for bed for me

Default MY APOLOGIES!!!!!

Hi Gals!

I have to apologize for not being on much this week. I truly don't know where the week went. Now this morning I have to get us packed as we are leaving for my brother's house to spend the Easter weekend. It will be a great visit, but no time to stop and breathe. One nice thing is my one niece is really into fitness. She wants me to go running with her this weekend. Told her to have 911 ready on the cell phone for when I fall over. She said we could alternate walking and running. Should be fun. Let's hope it doesn't rain.

Anyways, want to assure you all that I'm still 100% on program. Was up earlier in the week, but happy to report that this morning I'm back down to 171.The SB gods planned that perfectly because being at the lowpoint on the scale will keep me in line this weekend. My SIL has already asked me to bring some whole wheat flour so we can substitute. Cool, huh?

Last night the city was FINALLY calm. Mayor instated a curfew from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Did any of you see Nightline? We were the topic. Ugh! It's been quite tense downtown. I'm not used to having to consider where I drive because of safety. Strange feeling. Please send prayers and good thoughts up here because this is a very unpleasant situation. Thanks.

Just one personal note: ROSALIE, I borrowed a Tai Chi video from the library. But haven't had time to really watch it. Just saw the first few minutes. Looks interesting, but must admit that I fell asleep. Signed up for a Yoga class at a hospital wellness center just down the street. I'll start doing that next Wednesday and every Wednesday following for 5 or 6 weeks. Wish me luck. Hope I don't start snoring in the middle of it. Ha!!! I'll get around to reading the posts. So if you posted anything abou Tai Chi I'll get to it probably first of next week.

Hope all of you are doing well. I know there's so much I need to say to many of you, but just can't get caught up with my reading. Have a good weekend. I'm thinking of you all and wishing I could spend more time with you.

Take care
Kim

Default Off to the Big Easy!

Hi Bustees,

I'm getting ready to go to New Orleans to see my son, Tom. Yes, his name is Tom, he's not a TOM that I usually see mentioned here! It is about a 6 hour drive, and I am looking forward to seeing him to tell him about my engagement. I am also a little nervous. My younger son, Colby, was very supportive. Colby is 23, Tom is 27, they are wrapped up in their own lives and not too worried about anyone else right now anyway. Which is good.

I've been doing pretty well with staying OP, even thru the Easter parties at my school yesterday. But going to the City of Food is not going to be quite as easy.

I have only looked at the last page of posts, so here are a few responses.

LISA_A: You don't eat very much, just be sure you aren't getting hungry and suffering through it. That will make you binge eventually. Congrats on the weight loss! I can relate to your sick son and how that makes you feel. Colby was a sick baby also, had several surgeries and it was quite stressful.

CATHYCATHY: I have headaches occasionally from not drinking enough liquids. I have also used the SF pudding. I don't think it would be treated like a fruit though, I just used the butterscotch. It's not my favorite thing to eat, but if you are having a craving for sweets, it's okay when you FIRST make it.

DEB: I hope your blisters are all better. I can't think of too many things more miserable than sore feet. You must be well known in your area for beating the streets on your mission for exercise! WTG.

RHROO: Yucky Dr. visits, I can relate. They always make me feel like they're about to tell me some kind of terrible news. But they usually don't. I haven't had a chance to see your pix yet, gotta post some myself. It is fun to see what everyone looks like.

VIV: I dread moving because I am going to have to get the dust off of everything before the movers see it. Yes, I also used to clean before the cleaning lady came. Why do we take dust as a personality trait?

RODEOMOM: I have avoided the candy aisle in Walmart since Halloween. Thank goodness Easter is the last of the big candy holidays for a while. Think about it: Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter. They clear out one and install the next. I think organized crime is probably involve, *wink*

OVERCOME: Don't you just breathe a sigh of relief when those classroom parties are over? I only had to clean up one spilled punch and an upside down cupcake yesterday. I saw nothing that especially tempted me, since the kids mostly brought jelly beans, cookies, etc. Not too much really good chocolate stuff!

SASAHM: Potty trained! WHOOPPEEEEEE! Of course, now he's going to want to go potty everytime you sit down to a meal, but it's such a major step!

SPARKLE: As usual your posts are inspiring, and so well thought out. Loved your comment about the pounds and their friends having a party on your a$$. You are so funny. Now get those taxes done, girlfriend!

CHERIE: Hi, you seem to be on the run. I am ready to slow things down for a day or two myself.

ROSALIE: Enjoy your long weekend. Don't spend it all doing chores though. Just enough so you can enjoy yourself. That's what I have done.

AMSER: Hilton Head, how wonderful! I've never been there, have seen pictures and heard about it. That's a place to go sometime...

FROG: WHat is the deal with the little tobacco plots everyone has there in their yards? Is tobacco so profitable that growing a few rows is worth it? Or is this for their own use (roll your own!) I have noticed that almost everyone grows some. I love your state, and so do a lot of other people apparently. It seems that everyone I know is moving there!

MELF: I am also overwhelmed by all the posts here. It's great and I love reading them, but think I will only be able to respond like this once a week or so. I am overwhelmed at school this time of year, and then there's the romance thing going on. I really should stay here and rest this weekend instead of heading to N'Awlins, but can't stay away. So Happy Easter to you too!

BEE: HAPPY BIRTHDAY IN ADVANCE! I had the most trouble with 39, all the rest have been no big deal. I am not sure how 50 will affect me in a couple of years....it seems like such a huge milestone. More than likely, the day after your birthday, you will be fine.

Default Sorry, BOB

BOB: How could I forget to congratulate you on your smoke free life? Keep it going, it will get a lot easier. I have noticed that I can smell it on people even when they smoked one cigarette outside in the open air. Guess I used to smell that way too. And I thought I was keeping it a secret! I think quitting smoking is even more important than losing weight. What do you think?

CATHY - Lisa is on diet pills and has been eating very little. I may have read your post wrong, but you can't really compare your WOE to hers. Following the SB plan will work, sometimes our bodies have to take time to adjust to a new WOE. Also, have you had a full physical recently? I went to the Dr. because I was doing everything I knew to do - name a diet I did it! (low calories, proportions correctly, exercise, etc.) and not losing weight. That's when he sent me to the endocrinologist and I found out about my insulin levels being off and SugarBusters.

AMSER - LOL about Martha Stewart!! Ya, if I had her money I would also have a kick-butt garden! I already have it planned!! Thanks for the info on your sister. I hope she was able to get pregnant!

FROG - I'm on Zyrtec and I've noticed a little droopiness, but not too bad. Your articles sound like it would be good information to have. I have a TipWorld subscription that I'm going to share from at the bottom of this. Mr. HB sounds like a wonderful hubby....being live caller ID, letting you gloat and all. Looking forward to seeing Norma Jean!

OVERCOME - I have an article I got of the web somewhere - maybe here - it's "78 Ways Sugar Can Ruin Your Health" if you're interested I can e-mail it to you. But as far as your friend.....sometimes people don't really want answers to those kinds of questions they're just trying to stir things up or tear us down. Since you know her you would be better able to tell what her motivation was for asking.

SPARKLE - Thank you for the kind words!! I work out at the gym at work in the mornings and used to blow dry my hair, but I've started letting it air dry. It's a little more motivating that way 'cause everyone knows I worked out that morning if my hair is wet. My hair is straight as a board and will not hold a curl for anything so it's no biggie to just let it dry. I try to go for the "wet look" at least 3 days a week!

QUILTER - Glad to hear it's calming down up there. I've been thinking about you.

I know I'm not going to get to everyone today. I'm sorry. Thank you for the kind comments on my mug shots!

I subscribe to TipWorld at www.topica.com for several categories and this tip I got yesterday seems to be appropriate for a lot of us. Thanks, DEBBIE, for suggesting I post it.

NO PAIN! NO GAIN! FACT OR FICTION
You can gain the benefits of exercise without pain. In fact, over-exercising can be very dangerous, especially for a person with an undetected heart condition. Trained athletes can work at 85 percent of their maximum heart rate, but if you don't fit in this category don't try this level. If you want fast improvement, exercise LONGER, not HARDER.
Balance is the key to a safe workout program. If you have a couple of heavy workout days, counteract with a light day. Listen to your body. If you are fatigued, have sore muscles, and dread your workout for the day, you are over doing it. Most health experts agree to start an exercise program slowly and increase the frequency, intensity, and time over several weeks or months.
Another form of over-exercising is the repeating of the same activity too often. Switching exercises on a daily basis allows the stressed muscles to recover while different sets of muscles are being used. This is especially important if you are over 40. Muscles cannot repair themselves as quickly after this age.
For most of us, it's not a question of too much exercise but too little. Daily moderate activity for 30 minutes will give health benefits without pain. A vigorous activity level may benefit us in longevity and obtaining higher body fitness, but this level of exercise should only be started with the approval of a physician and with an appropriate training program.
Elizabeth Thornberry has a Master's Degree in Physical Education and has taught at both the secondary and post-secondary levels. You can send email questions to [email protected]

Debbie has tried to coach me through how to do this, so here's one last picture of me. This is one of the most recent pictures I have. I expect to be able to post a "smaller" one in a few months!

OH MY GOODNESS!! How could I forget to mention Survivor??? We have an office pool and I've got Colby and Rodger. I think Colby is in for the axe if he wins another reward challenge. Everyone else has really bonded after the true survival night on the beach. I can't believe Tina and Keith crossed lines - not upset, mind you - just surprised. I'm thinking now it may come down to Tina and Rodger. I think Keith or Colby is next off the island.

Default a little depressed :(

Good morning! I just got back from a 3 mile walk w/my sister. Whew! I realize just how out of shape I am when I walk with her...... we were really moving! This Alabama humidity is in full swing and I sweated my *** off. I'll make sure to drink extra water today.

Okay, now I don't know to be happy or upset about my 5 lb. weight loss this week. So many of you are telling me that I'm not eating enough....... now I'm worried that I'm setting myself up for failure. I'm not hungry, and think I am doing okay (or at least I did ). It would help me a lot if some of you would list a typical day of eating. I really do want to lose this weight healthily, and obviously need your help!! I'll post my day again from yesterday.

B'fast: 2 egg omelette w/ham & swiss cheese (yum!), one c. skim milk
Snack: handful of pecans
Lunch: Baked chicken breast, green salad, cherry tomotoes, one slice wheat bread (SF)
Snack: frozed grapes (this is SO good....if you've never tried it, do! Feels like a desert ) and Low-Fat Triscuits
Supper: 1 1/2 grilled hamburger patties (no bun), fresh brocolli, brown rice

Thanks for the tip about the OJ...... I'll try to eat more whole fruit instead.

Have a great day!

Good morning everyone

This is just a quickie. Have to get ready to go out to visit DD and family.

Kim - Glad to hear things are beginning to settle down in the city. It's good you can get away from it for a while.

Lisa - I think your menu from yesterday looks better than the previous ones you posted, but I would suggest having some carbs with the protein for breakfast if you are going to be doing 3 mile walks or other strenuous exercise. If you are not exercising in the morning then what you posted for breakfast seems adequate to me. The rest of the day looks O.K. if you will be adding one or two servings of fruit. This is just my opinion. Others may differ. I wouldn't worry about the 5lbs weight loss. Some people do lose a lot the first couple of weeks and then it settles down to a more gradual loss. The initial weight loss is probably mainly fluid from the sudden decrease in carbohydrates in the diet.

Will get through the other posts later.

Have a good Easter Weekend.

Marie
