Sugar Coma

Need to stop the sugar habit. I've been eating pretty healthly lately then one bite of sugar and I just want more. Its like I cant have just a small amount. Its like none or a ton.. Needless to say after doing well lately I came down with a crash (literally) tonight after a sugar binge.

What do yall do to avoid the binges? Anything to make the crashes less harsh? (Lol.. I know the real answer is to just not eat it, but that seems so hard right now). I was talking to my friend and she sent me a link to a shirt that says "Sugar coma... Be Back Later"! (It won't let me put links in bc I'm too knew- worried about spammers I guess- if you want to see the shirt its at nosheeping. com) I laughed so hard... totally the story of my night sadly.

Do you do anything to get out of the haze? Just caffeine?

:wel3fc: and our little neck of these gret big woods . . . glad you found us.

For me . . . it's not just sugar that causes it; any overindulgence in high GI carbs will cause me to crash. I'm diabetic and if I overload on those things, I definitely need a nap to shake the 'coma'.

Yep . . . the bottom line is avoidance . . . but it isn't easy.

I know a lot of people have trouble with any kind of artifical sweeteners, but for me, Splenda works well without triggering a binge; so that's how I manage to calm my sweet cravings a little. I mix about a tsp of splenda and a tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder into a half-cup of NSA/FF plain yogurt and pretend I'm eating chocolate pudding.

Good Luck . . .

That's like the AA saying, "One is too many; a thousand is not enough."

That's exactly how I am with sugar. I can't handle it, so I don't eat it. The longest I've gone without sugar was 2 1/2 years. One cheat used to mean crash and burn. But I've learned that it's simply a matter of starting again... and again... and again... until it sticks.

I've always been this way- not just actual sugar, but any simple carbohydrate which quickly converts to sugar in my body. My only solution has been to go cold turkey. It really was the only thing that worked for me.

I'm in first few chapters of "Potatoes not Prozac" which addresses the issue of sugar sensitivity and addiction. It's fascinating so far, but I haven't really gotten into her "prgram". I suspect it's a lot like what I did on my own for the last 7 years :)

Ahhh, so you see. Therein lies the answer - it's like none or a ton. Given that option, I would choose none. It's really the only way.
