DEB - can you repost that link you sent to the site where you pick what category you want and it tells you the best food source for that thing... like choose vegetable/fiber and it tells you what veggies have the highest fiber, etc... I thought I favorite placed the link, but I didn't

HiedieHo All!!!!

Thought I'd check in a little early today. GD is home from school but doesn't need the computer yet.

Went to NH this morning, two newspaper offices with articles on Habitat, two Dollar Stores, church office and Winn Dixie. Glad to get home. I'm tired.

MOMMA: Read in your Bio that you liked the Mitford books. I'm just starting the first in the series. So far, I'm really enjoying it!

FROG - Glad you are back home. I worked as Recreation Therapy Director for 10 years in a NH and the next 10 years with head trauma patients. There ARE good NHs, they just don't make the news like the bad ones. I was very proud of the one I worked in.

About GMs bouts of forgetfulness; what you learn first, you lose last, so GM will remember her old town better than you. Pocketbooks are a big thing with female patients, tell your parents to check it every so often, you'd be surprised what they put in them!!!! Food from last week's lunch, dirty toilet paper, etc. Many will begin doing repetitve motions.....folding and refolding a handkerchief or napkin. It's sort of like that is the one thing they can control and keep in order.

Waiting lists can be extremely long and can go a couple of months before entry. Unfortunately, in most NHs you are waiting for someone to die so there will be an empty bed available.

I hope they have an active and stimulating Recreation Department, that offers activities according to different abilities and not lump everybody in one category. Often a very forgetful client is still able to crochet or do needlepoint etc. Granted the needlepoint may be plastic canvas now, because eyes are not what they used to be, etc. Good Luck and God Bless.

SORRY!!!! i CARRY A SOAPBOX FOR JUST SUCH OCCASIONS!!!!! I just feel that a NH doesn't have to be a warehouse!!!

BETH - Seems to me you are really taking a chance in handling food for your family and guests! Pinkeye is highly contagious and can be a vicious cylce in a family. You must be so miserable, hope specialist helps. God Bless. Soon time to start supper, DS is back from a business trip.

Take care all, sef

Talking hit and run

I have to weigh in on the coffee conversation!

Barnies has flavored coffee that's wonderful! Cinnamon Butter Cookie got us hooked on Barnies. We enjoy Starbucks non-flavored now (Thanks, DEBBIE!) Also, something I do occasionally is add some vanilla to my coffee grounds before brewing and on other days I add Almond Extract to the grounds with the Vanilla. Yummy!!! and No Sugar.

FROG - WTG, Girl! Been thinkin' boutcha!

FILLISE - Love the new avatar! How cool!

I missed Survivor so I can't weigh in on that one.

DEBBIE - we (VINCE) made lamb meatballs in tomato sauce two nights ago.....all I can say is that it's a good thing there were enough leftovers for BOTH of us to take lunch!

Well, I've got to run - I have been eating horribly and haven't exercised at all this week. Gonna head out for a 3.5 loop right now. Will try to weigh in later.

POOCH: I am going to journey out to the super Wal Mart and see what Da Vinci's syrups they have. I meant to mention when I posted last that you can look at DietPower software, and download a two week trial of it at That is what I use, and it works really well. I am not the paper journal type. I lose that kind of stuff, or start out, then think of a more efficient way to do it, and get frustrated with my ever changing ideas! Can you tell I am NOT structured at all? Anything logical is a chore!

I wish you lived close. I could set you up with a deal from my massage therapist. I don't pay her...we trade. I make dinner for her family, and she gives me massage. I think I am going to go more often than I have been, since she loves the dinner, and I love the massage. I know what you mean about laying half nekkid on a table, but my MT is very discreet about how she handles it. She leaves you in the room, with a huge flannel sheet, and you get on the table like superman...the sheet as your cape, and when she comes in, you are on your belly, totally covered. She only uncovers the part of you she is working on, so it is not embarrassing at all. I suppose I would find it more so if it were a man or a more public place. How wonderful you feel after makes it all worthwhile.

Do you know where Hopewell, Virginia is? I have a very good friend who lives there. She works as at a very large Baptist church in Richmond....

BETH: Been praying for your SIL. Let us know how it goes. I can imagine how hard it is on your brother. Hope he is doing ok with the surgery and all.

LDBLOND: Thanks for the belated B-day wishes! I had a wonderful day! Glad to hear your little guy is a bit better. It is hard to stay on program when you have that kind of stress hanging over your head. You seem to have a good grasp on things carry on with your plans and keep legal snacks around. It is better to over do legal stuff than go off on the stuff you should not have any of!

DEB: Hope you are doing ok, volunteering and not feeling well. I can understand your frustrations with the parents that back out at the last minute. I used to be on staff at my church, and part of my responsibilities running the first and second grade Sunday school (with about 350 kids...big church) was to staff the classes with volunteer teachers and workers. Nothing was worse than having a morning where half the workers did not show up, and did not bother to call either. Then you had to scramble and try to fill in. I took it for nine years, then decided I had had enough! I miss the kids, but not those people who had no clue of the problems they caused when they were too selfish to keep to a committment!

Well, my daughter and her fiance', the chef, are fixing dinner tonight- a kind of belated birthday present to me. He is going to make Spanikopita (Greek spinach pie) with my whole wheat filo dough. I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Evening Everyone!

Thanks again for all the prayers and thoughts for my Mother. She is home and resting and recuperating nicely.

Beth: I hope and pray that all went well with your SIL. My thoughts and prayers were with you all.

Toni: I have a lot of family in that area. My Dad lives in Piedmont, Aunts and Uncles in a small town called Silva and Greenville and Lake Wappapello. It's really beautiful in that area.

Deb: Hope you feel better soon.

Well, I weighed yesterday. It was not pretty. I was at 277. That is 5.5 pounds up. BUT, I know that most of it is water retention. My legs, ankles and hands are swollen from not drinking enough water and drinking too many diet pepsis.

Everyone take care. I'm sorry I can't respond to everyones post, but you are all very important to me.

Arrow Quick Update

SIL is doing ok... surgery went well, took about 45 minutes is all, but they had a hard time waking her up. She didn't get up for 3 hours!
They got her 'cleaned out', and found that the mass was a cyst. She had several of them.
MIL said she's really sore, and just sleeping off the anesthesia right now, and she'll be ok.

Thanks for all the prayers. A few follow up visits will let us know more about babies in the future

Thumbs up Why do I even bother?

I am so discouraged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been doing really good today, staying OP, and I've only had 1 carb today.

But then I put on jeans (jeans that were BAGGY on Saturday!) and they are tight!!!!

Why even go through this? I was losing weight and eating Oreos not too long ago!

I am so sad!

Hey Everyone!

Just thought I would say hello - I was just gonna lurk but couldn't help myself!

BETH: Gosh girl - I can't get over that pinkeye situation! I feel so sorry for you! Glad to hear your SIL is doing good - I can certainly relate to her situation! I just had that same surgery on Valentine's Day! I also know the baby situation all too well - as do MANY of the other ladies on this board! Many of us have had the struggles! Tell her that we are thinking of her and hope she has a speedy recovery!

DEB: Hope you feel better soon girl! There's nothing worse than feeling crappy!

FROG: Welcome back! Hope everything works out with your GM.

FREEDOM: Don't be sad! Those jeans will fit better before you know it! It's probably just fluid - unless you ate those oreos recently! HAHA!

Ok - I'm runnin - see y'all tomorrow

Red face Thursday night

Evening everyone!

I'm sitting here at the computer putting off getting the last of my tax stuff together for the my accountant tomorrow. I don't think it should be too bad, but I always feel like I'm forgetting stuff

My stomach is a little crampy tonight--don't know what's up with that, but I am tired so I hope I'm not comming down with anything.

Beth--I'm glad to hear that your SIL came through surgery OK. I'll hold a good thought for her!

Freedom--I know it is hard, but try not to be discouraged. It takes a little while for your body to get with the system, especially while you are still detoxing. You also need to be eating carbs. SB isn't like Atkins where all carbs are bad. Of your total calorie consumption 40% should come from carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats. Just try to stay with the low glycemic carbs. Of course you need to make sure you are consuming enough calories too. But Deb's good at that lecture--so I'll leave that one for her!

OK got to go do taxes.

Red face Happy Thursday

Just finished catching up. Made notes to reply to all when I have time. Am working tomorrow to try to make up for time lost M-W this week.

Thanks to all who sent well wishes. My thoughts are with those of you who are sick or who have loved one's who are sick.

There are so many replies I want to send, but need to send a note to SEF the most tonight!

SEF - Thanks so much for your input. I was counting on you for info and I didn't even have to come asking for it. I KNEW you would have terrific insight. {{{HUGS}}} I used to be an activity therapist and am a speech-language pathologist now and have seen more bad than good NH in my training. When you see one that really stands out you know it! When we toured there where events going on all over the place. They have a great volunteer support system and you see them all over the place. The Alz unit is the most remarkable thing I have ever seen. Only AD patients who are a flight risk are on that unit, otherwise they can remain on a regular unit until they are a risk. The AD unit is enclose but has tons and tons of windows and unrestricted access to an outdoor area. These folks can wander until the cows come home as long as they are ambulatory! It made me feel soooo much better. The Dir of admissions told my parents yesterday that they have a bed open on the AD unit and they may be able to place her there, then transfer her later if she can be OK with less supervision. There's hope lurking! If you think of anything else please let me know. My parents are desperate for anything that might help. I plan to share your post with them the next time we talk.

OK, lots more later on all the topics I read up on tonight. I promise!

Default Just Time for a Quick Post

Boy, working all day and taking care of my family in the evening sure puts a crimp in my 'puter time.

Beth: I'm so glad your SIL is okay. Will keep her in my prayers for a good follow-up report.

Ld: Glad your DS is better. It's so hard when our babies are sick.

Frog: My thoughts are with you and your family. I've seen my grandmother and my one of my mom's sister decline. My GM sounds very similar to yours. She made the decision herself to go to a NH after a terrible overdose. She was living alone in a mobile home next to my uncle and we think she woke up one morning and took her meds, went over to their house and fell asleep, and took another round of meds when she woke up. That was about 25 years ago and I still remember it vividly. She's in Heaven, now. My aunt had Alzheimers and she declined very quickly. I feel for you.

Deb: Congrats to Lauren. I know you all are so excited. What a great opportunity. I understand you frustrations about the tournament vols. And you wouldn't believe some of the things parents call us at school to complain about. I sometimes wonder if they just sit around at home trying to think of something to call about. Many of the moms in our school have waaaayyyy too much time on their hands.

I know there are folks I haven't responded to, but my mind just went blank. I'm usually alseep by 11 but wanted to get this in.

Welcome newbies! Freedom, I'll have to read the bio board and see where 'bouts in TX you are. The Lone Star State Ladies are growing every day.

BTW: My scales are possessed with the same demon as Gracious'. I was up to 168 on Wed. But I know it's mid cycle and that my size 12 capris fit just fine today! Back in August, you couldn't have paid me a million dollars to try on a pair of 18's.
And I'm trying out a pair on contact lenses. I had perfect vision until I hit 40, then boy did it get bad. I hate wearing glasses. I hope these work out for me.

'Night Y'all!

Default Friday

It is still snowing here today. We got about 10 inches yesterday and today it is blowing really hard..the snow is falling horizontally! You would think I live in Canada or something!

We have the kids home again today and sadly it was my daughters birthday party today, although her birthday is actually on Monday. I don't know if that is a go or not. We will still have a family one if her friends cannot arrive, but as you know, to an 8 year old, it is not the same.

I really don't have much to say today..isn't that odd? Later I will be doing my firming and toning exercises again, decorating for the party, baking a cake, playing with the kids, feeding them all ( I have 5 of them today) and otherwise just tidying up. Guess I better get moving! Have a great day.

Good Morning everyone,

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes. My hubby took me to the Outback Steakhouse for my birthday. Boy was it delicious. I couldn't believe they had sweet potatos. I told our waittress to tell them to not put anything but plain butter and cinnimon on mine and it was yummy along with my shrimp.
Hope everyone that is sick and has sick loved ones is lots better today. I said a little prayer for you all.

Welcome to the newbies this is a great board and a great way to eat. You will not regret it.

Well I have to get off here and go fix me and my unborn youngun some breakfast talk to you all later.

Everyone have a great day!

Wow Friday already.. I just did my treadmill. Brr! is it cold here.....
Didn't get to try my eggplant! LOL. when I opened it, it was bad inside. I was really disappointed I didn't get to try it.. Oh well next time.

Thunderwoman- I've never eaten at the Outback but now I sure want to. I love sweet potatoes just baked. Glad you had a nice birthday.

Gracious-Sounds like you have a busy day ahead of you. Hope you get time for your exercises.

Hi jred, you must be losing inches and your body readjusting itself. Hang in there.....

Frog-Sure hope all goes well with the NH. Thats so hard and stressful on everyone.

Fillise-Hi and I hope you're not getting sick. Lucky you getting your tax stuff done. We haven't even started...

Fruitloupe-Hi hope you have a good day.

Beth-Happy for your SIL, I hope everything continues to go alright..

Freedom-Don't get discouraged, I know its hard not to but your body may just be adjusting itself. If you've taken your measurements maybe its losing inches. You've done so well. Hang tight and keep on..... Drink that water..................

Sheann-That has to be fluid gain.. Boy that water really helps. Just start drinking a barrel full.... I'm glad your Mother is feeling better..

Solshine, Monet, Sef and all I hope you have a great day....
