I win!

First mini goal: met and even exceeded! About 2 months ago I set a goal to hit 175 by today and this morning the scale read 172.5! This couldn’t have come at a better time, the scale was bobbing around 178/179 for what seemed like forever (you know, like three weeks):p . Thankfully it decided to start being more agreeable over the last couple weeks.

Hmmmm, how did I do it? Well, I’m really bad at doing formal plans, or writing things down, or depriving myself of something once I’ve got it in my head that I really want it. So I’ve basically been changing the general way I eat and think about food slowly. I did a few weeks of entering every little thing into fitday, but I wasn’t going to keep that up forever, too much of a pain for me. It did get me in the habit of measuring portions and at least being calorie aware, so I more or less “guesstimate” my calories and I end up somewhere in the 1400-1700 range. I try to eat as “clean” as I can most days. Lots of whole grains, fruits, veggies, soy products, beans and lean proteins from various vegetarian sources, some good fats (olives and avocados are sooo good!) and I pretty much stopped drinking anything but water and my morning cup (read: tub) of coffee. :coffee: I cut drastically back on the amount of eggs, dairy and refined sugars in my diet. I still have some pizza or some sweets now and then, just not nearly as often. I also have a weakness for wine and beer. Not to sound like a lush, but limiting myself to 2 alcoholic beverages a week was one of the hardest things for me.

As far as exercise, I think getting the scale to move lately has something to do with switching it up that department. I started with a regimen of water aerobics, swimming, walking, elliptical and a very repetitive weights program on the machines at my gym. I’ve changed the way I do strength training a lot, I’m working more with dumbbells and squats and lunges and Pilates. I’m doing a little more intense yoga now too so that helps with flexibility and core strength. I don’t have a workout schedule that I follow all the time, I basically look at that on a week to week basis and see what I can do. Sometimes that means 3 days at the gym, sometimes 5. But I walk with my dog every single day, vet’s orders. My dog lost the 10 lbs he gained last year!

Next on my workout agenda: push ups. I can’t do a single one. How sad is that?
Rollerblading: purchased on eBay, here any day now! :D

I’m also planning on getting a ball so I can do more Pilates at home.

Wow, when I write it all out like this I see how much I’ve changed. Go me! :cheer:
