I've been working at a new job for the past couple of weeks. This afternoon, they told me and the other newbies to report to the lunch room to have our photo IDs made. One of the other sections was on break in the lunchroom when we showed up. Lo and behold, this section was serving ice cream to its members in honor of someone's birthday, and they had about five different flavors available,
and whipped cream. They were polite enough to offer some to those of us waiting to be photographed. All the other newbies decided to accept some, so there I sat, surrounded by people enjoying their ice-cream.
The only thing that enabled me to hold out was knowing I could come here and report it as a victory.
I felt a bit under siege, but it's okay, because I resisted. It wasn't so long ago that I'd have considered it an opportunity not to be missed. I'm so satisfied with my decision.
I'm in charge of what I eat, and I
won't behave like a victim of circumstances.
