NSV: I didn't eat it!!! :)

  • A tiny, tiny non-scale victory, but I'm gonna celebrate it anyway!

Today the kids and dh had his famous "cheesey sgetti" (left over spagehetti fried up in margarine with melted american cheese slices...can you just IMAGINE the fat and carb content??) while I ate my chicken and spinach wrap. The girls, of course, had nearly a half cup left on each of their plates. In the past, I would have eaten it (both because it tastes good, and because I've got that horrific "don't waste it!" upbringing).

Today, I'll admit, I looked at it. I picked it up even. Then I said, naah, not worth it...and threw it in the trash!

Better to waste it, than to WAIST it!!
  • whoooo hoooo...
  • I totally know what you mean when it comes to being taught not to waste food. When I was an exchange student in Japan, one of my host families acted like wasting food was a terrible sin up there with stealing or something. I learned to eat every speck of rice fast. I was only with them for a month but I practiced that my entire time in Japan, thinking it was a more common practice. In reality, it was just a very outdated thing and most people really didn't care. It's taken awhile to realize that whether it goes in the garbage or in my stomach it doesn't have anything else it can be used for because starving children in Africa can't eat your half eaten sandwich no matter how guilty you feel about disposing of it!

Another good idea might be to try composting? That way you're turning that "wasted" food into something good, therefore not wasting it. I dunno.

    But congrats!! <3
  • Great!
  • You inspire me!
    Kayley,

You inspire me! You have already lost 40 pounds! That is awesome. I started out at 278 at my highest prego wt but didn't drop much at all when I had the baby. I really get inspired when I see people sticking to it for the long haul with me because it's sooo hard !

I am looking for a group of friends to talk with during my weight loss journey. Do you belong to a certain group? Could I join you?

I just know we're gonna make it.
  • You did great! You should be very proud of yourself. I, too, was brought up as part of the Clean Plate Club. A membership that haunts me to this day. Good for you for resisting temptation!

As far as composting, it's a wonderful idea but I don't think the meal described can be used in compost because of the fat content. I could be wrong, of course (it's been known to happen ).
  • YES!
you go girl.. I have the same " don't waste it" thing goin on.. but i like the way you put it.. i don't want to "waist" it either!
  • I am another member of the "Clean plateClub" It was how I was rised and I Have to fight myself not to eat the kiddies leftovers. Good for you!!!

Congratulations on your NSV! You absolutely did the right thing. When you don't need the calories, eating "to prevent waste" is just using your body as a trash can.

    How true, how true.....!!!!
  • Good for you! That certainly is a victory. It's all about breaking bad habits and you're well on your way!
