Major victory from a newbie

I just started my lifestyle change this morning. Done well so far -- then, again, I've only been awake for an hour. :p But my victory is this--well, two actually. The little one... I bypassed the cinnamon rolls in my kitchen and had GrapeNuts with ff milk and a banana instead. But the biggie is that this weight-loss ticker in my signature is the first time I have every admitted my weight publicly. It's major because I finally understand that I can't pretend that "I'm not that bad." I think that means something. Thank you for providing a safe forum.

:bravo: Well done for taking the first step - you need to acknowledge that a problem exists before you can really start to work on it. You'll find fabulous help and support on this site, and soon you'll be well on your way!

Kind regards, Janey

Posting my weight was hard for me to do too....however, after the initial embarrassment wears off there's the pride in showing off what you've accomplished.

Thank you!

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I am so excited about the prospect of seeing my stars move across the bar.

Rebounders anon.

I was wondering if anyone has experience using a mini trampoline. Dippy Chip I saw in your blog that you use a rebounder. Any advice about them ? I already have a very dusty exercise bike cluttering up my bedroom. But then, I suppose anything will work if you get up off the settee and use it. Is a tramopline more fun than a bike or is that asking too much ?
I really must stop hovering on the edge of this site and Do Something About It. Every diet I have ever tried has resulted in more me rather than less. It's an odd thing. LIfestyle change rather than diet, I know the theory. I just seem to miss the backbone - but then I suppose a backbone would only add another 10 pounds ...
Me on a trampoline ? :sumo:

Congrats! It really is about taking those steps that may seem small now, but all make it worth it in the long run. It was hard for me to post my weigh too, but I really felt okay doing it because this is such a safe forum. There are definitely a bunch of great people around here! Good luck on your weight loss!

Have you ever heard this before?

"How do you eat an elephant?"
"One bite at a time."

It just seems to fit so well for trying to lose a lot of weight. I've been thinking of that saying a lot today. Of course, I'm trying NOT to eat an elephant ;) so I guess a more appropriate saying would be that you avoid eating an elephant by turning down one bite at a time ;). You're doing GREAT. Small, successful steps is wonderful.

I hear you about posting your weight. I was terrified to put it out there at first. The "high weight" in my ticker isn't even actually my all-time highest weight. I was 266 the day I went into labor with my second baby. This is actually the first time I've ever admitted that. Mortifying. On the other hand, it's nice to look at the ticker now and see that I've come a decent way since starting this weight-loss effort. It makes me feel better to see that I'm NOT at 248 any more, and that if I stick with my healthier lifestyle, I never have to be 248 again.
