I'm glad to have found the SBD thread. I have just decided to finally lose this weight and hope to find the support I've been needing. I feel like a real newbie as I am completely unfamiliar with the whole forum situation. It is great to feel like there is someplace to go for answers.

I am on day 10 of phase 1 and I am down 6lbs last I checked. So far, I'm super pleased with the diet because I am constantly full, but I'm starting to become super frustrated with the lack of options of what I can eat. It feels so akward after awhile when you don't have bread, or rice, or pasta to cook with, I never realized how dependent I became on them until now! But more than the pounds, I'm very pleased that an inch has come off my waist, and 1.5" has come off my hips! I only have one more inch to lose on my waist and 2.5" to go on my hips to be at my goal measurements, but I still have 24 lbs to go to reach my goal weight. So! Any support I can get, I'd appreciate because although I like the diet thus far, it's starting to wear a little thin being in Phase 1...any tips and pointers?

missyb - have you tried any of the recipes in the book yet? DF and I were actually excited to eat our meals on p1. They tasted soooooo good!!!! We still eat a lot of them. Although -I haven't been on p2 for long. Their recipes and the ones here too are wonderful!

Beachgal - very nicely put. I will read and reread your post for a while. It's hard sometimes to keep in mind that the scales are secondary in life. It's actually BEING healthy that should be the goal and it's so easy to get a month into it and decide you're not losing fast enough and walk away from an already much healthier you - only to go back to the sluggish, fast food nutt I was was Thanks again for the post!

I started three weeks ago (just finished my first week on Phase 2) and lost 12 pounds during Phase 1. It was very exciting and motivating. I do have to echo what's been said though, the first week in Phase 2 I didn't lose anything. It is very frustrating, but just the realization that I'm putting much healthier food into my body is enough motivation right now to keep going.

Little-grasshopper...I suppose my demise is my own fault, I was stoked to make the things on the menu in the book, but then as I was making my grocery list, I grew very sad at the amount of money it was going to cost to make the stuff! So, I just bought a bunch of food on the "enjoy" list and have been making due with that - I HAVE made the spaghetti squash with zuchinni, red onion and tomatoes, which is WONDERFUL if you have tried it yet. I think I will go today and try the ricotta creme stuff they have for dessert every night, and skim through the book for a way to spice up our dinner tonight. Thanks for the advice!

Missyb - I often use chopped cabbage where I would normally have used rice. I'll make the rice for my DH and son and then I'll serve the dish over the cabbage for me. Even in phase 2 I often use just a bit of rice and add cabbage to mine. There are many good recipes here. I had Taco Bake last night served over salad mix. It was wonderful.

I just want to mention that if you have not lost a large amount in phase 1, don't let it bother you. I only lost 4 pounds when I first did it two years ago. I was on a diuretic so I didn't have the water to lose. But the important thing is that the weight kept coming off. And yes, I have had long plateaus and times lately where I've regained a few pounds. But this is a way of eating for life and I am much healthier than ever before.
