SO excited...
Beachies, I am a happy woman!!! :carrot: :D :carrot:
I came across these chocolate bars (you had to know that this involved chocolate, didn't you? ) at our local grocery store and checked the back of them just as a habit. I was stunned to find that they were made of really good ingredients! No sugar alcohols, just Splenda! The only thing I could find wrong with them was that they are high in fat (12 g per bar, 7 g of which is saturated, NO trans fats). That's it! :yikes: I was so happy!!! :cloud9: Then, at my main grocery store, I discovered that they have a whole line of products, and they really look as healthy as such things can get! They have cereal, cereal bars, and oatmeal, in addition to the chocolate (which is really tasty, let me tell you! :D ). Being unable to eat malitol (which seems to be in every SF chocolate out there), I was so excited to see these products. :) Here's more info so you can check them out yourself. Here’s info on the chocolate bars: http://www.eatwellbewell.com/product..._chocolate.htm Info on the cereal bars: http://www.eatwellbewell.com/product...cerealbars.htm The only prohibitive thing about the products is the cost... $1.49 for the chocolate bars and $4.99  for the cereal bars. You can get them for slightly cheaper online at Netrition: http://www17.netrition.com/cgi/prices.cgi?manu_id=260 Anyone noticing anything nasty or worrisome in the ingredients list that I overlooked in my chocolate frenzy? ;) I certainly don't plan to make these a part of my daily diet, but it's nice to know that I can make some baked goods with chocolate in them that can be enjoyed during the week instead of just on Saturday (the day I have my dark chocolate). :D I don't have much room in my diet for cereal bars, but it'd be nice to have them around for a treat now and then. I'm just so excited when I see healthy alternatives for junk food! :D |
I don't know that I'd call my beloved Valrhona "junk food" exactly - it'd be like calling Dom Perignon champagne "booze"! ;) It's certainly too expensive to be anything but a rare treat, especially these days.
I'm glad you found something that will work for you! |
The cereal bars are $4.19 for 5 bars at Netrition, not bad. And the ingredients look good too, with whole grains, sunflower seeds, etc. Now, what do they taste like??
|
LOL...*that* is the question, isn't it, Sil! ;) Anyone want to find out?
Netrition is a great company (no, I don't work there... ;) )...I placed a huge order, consisting mainly of SF syrups (our TJ Maxx hadn't had any for months...) and it arrived in two days with each bottled individually wrapped for shipping...it was awesome! H-ko, fill me in on this divinity you are consuming...I obviously missed an important discussion! :T <drooling over here at the thought of chocolate that's worth comparing to Dom Perignon...) |
I have also used Netrition.com before and have been very happy with their prices and service. MUCH cheaper than GNC and the like.
|
Laurie - here's their website: http://www.valrhona.com/fr/menu/home-gen.php3?vlang=A
It's expensive, very high quality French chocolate (hence the comparison). Their "Guanaja" dark chocolate is the one we like. There aren't very many places in my area that carry it, but there are at least a few. |
Be sure and let us know how everything tastes!!!
|
I just bought (and sampled:eating2: ) a Green & Black's Organic Dark Chocolate with Hazlenut & Currant bar, it's soooo good and a tiny bit goes for a long way.
Heather-they have a Dark 70% bar that sounds very similar to your Guanaja. They run a little over $3 a bar so it's probably cheaper, you might want to investigate...http://www.greenandblacks.com/chocolate.php |
batmomm - I tried green & black, but I didn't care for it. I thought Valrhona was much better.
|
Mmmm, batmom, I love their Mayan Gold bar. Spice and oranges. :T
My all-time-favorite still has to be Newman's Own Organic Dark Espresso. It is to DIE for. :faint: :cloud9: And that's after tasting French dark chocolates (in France) with sugar in them. ;) |
