Introducing ME

  • Sorry, I didn't read all the rules. I started yesterday, just boldly came right in and didn't tell you anything about me.

I am a grey-haired, retired old lady, who has put on too many pounds. I also have type2 Diabetes, which makes it even harder to balance insulin and food. I told you yesterday how my blood sugar dipped too low on Sun. night and I had to have some o.j. and a few crackers before I could go to bed. Well.......it happened again last night. I've been cutting back on my insulin and I guess it's just not been enough back. I'll try again today. I may be on Phase 1 FOREVER at this rate.

My lucky DH doesn't need to be on SB, but he's all for me doing it. I just jazz up his meals a little more, and he's a very good sport about all of this. I've been doing SB now for one week and one day. I've lost 5 pounds, but I'll sure have to be more careful and eat more veggies I guess. I thought I had done that last night.

We have 2 sons, 2 daughters in law, and 9 g/kids. One boy, and eight girls. My g/kids are older, graduating from college, getting jobs, graduating from High school, the youngest will get her driver's license next year. My oldest g/daughter just got engaged after 3 years of going with the same young man. She works in a bank in her choosen field, Investment broker, the next one has her job, she's trained to be a nurse. I have another g/daughter who just graduated Basic and is in the Arny. (Not happy with that one especially in these times) but I'm only the g/ma. My g/son works in an insurance office away from home, so don't see him often.

I took my name from my very favorite fruit and apple, GrannySmith. I'm dying to have one, but haven't weakened yet, except for the o.j. for two nights. I can't function when my blood sugar is down into the low 60's and o.j. gets it right back up in a hurry.

Again, sorry I broke the "rules" and didn't do this first. I just started posting, FORGIVEN????? GrannySmith

  • Welcome Granny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad you are here!!!
  • Hey that IS low BGL! I am Type II Diabetic too and know how it feels to get that low. It usually happens when I have to drive for a half hour for fasting bloodwork! I go ahead and eat something. Screw the "rules".

Are you making sure you eat some SLOW carbs on Phase I? That should help. I try to include legumes in my meals when I'm on Phase I. By the way, there is enough sugar in a Lifesaver to bring your BGL back up.
  • Welcome GrannySmith!!
  • Granny! You are definitely forgiven, especially after such a nice intro!

Ruth's right...try including bell peppers, beans, and tomatoes in your daily food so you get lots of good carbs in Phase 1. It makes it a little easier.

Your family sounds wonderful! They are lucky to have a mom/g'ma who cares enough about her health to work on it. Eating healthy like this will keep you around for a long, long time so they can all enjoy your company!
  • Welcome GrannySmith!!! What a lovely family you have!!
