NonFat Soy Milk

I have some NonFat Vanilla SoyMilk in the house. I read the ingredients - No mention of High Fructose Syrup - But there is Dehydrated Cane Juice. Any ideas as to whether this is this acceptable on Phase1 ???

Thanks!

- Penny

If it is acceptable, it is DELICIOUS in the Chocolate Milkshake recipe ;)

I'm pretty sure cane juice is sugar so I would guess it's not acceptable in Phase 1. Sorry. :(

The fat in soymilk is a good fat so I don't go for the low fat versions. Depending on the brand there are somewhere between 4-5 g of fat and very little sat fat. But you should look for a "lite" version because it probably won't have sugar added. The taste of plainsoymilk is awful, IMO, so that's why so many have sugar added. I use Soy Slender which is sweetened with splenda. There's vanilla, chocolate, and capaccino. They're not to "flavored" tasting so are good with cereal, shakes, etc. They're good plain too.

I love soy milk and it's SO good for you :T Unfortunately, most of the soy milk sold in the supermarket is FULL of cane sugar :nono: I drink WestSoy Organic Unsweetend Soymilk.

Here are the particulars:

Ingredients: filtered water, whole organic soybeans. Thats it!

1 Cup, 8 fl oz contains
Calories 90
Total Fat 4.5
Saturated Fat 0.5
Trans Fats 0
Polyunsaturated Fat 2.5
Monounsaturated Fat 1g
Cholesterol 0
Total Carbs 5 g
Dietary Fiber 4 g
Sugar 1 g
Protein 9g

And it's yummy! I used to get it at the Health Food Store but my local supermarket now carries it in the section with coffee & tea. I bet if you request it, they will get it for you. I find that it holds me longer than regular milk because of the high protein content.

Well, regular skim milk has 8 grams of protein but soy is good for you in other ways.
Dehydrated cane juice is nearly the same as sugar - just not as refined - so is definitely to be avoided.

You want the unsweetened version, Penny. Just add SF syrups or Splenda/Equal/etc. to your recipe to sweeten it. It can be hard, sometimes, to find the unsweetened stuff, but keep looking...
