Ruth, those boho dresses are great...even though that wasn't the point, I am saving that link for future use!
Some of the larger department stores now have personal shoppers as a free service. I will save my budget for one expensive piece and go into Neiman's or one of those boutique stores and let the people that work there suggest things, since I can try them on, I don't have to take them at face value....it has proved for me to get personal fashion consulting for free. I always buy at least one piece because they either work on commission or they work on a point scale...and if I spent time with them I try to do something (even if it is the least expensive item I bought). |
Funny - Boho is dressing up for me! I guess I'd call my usual style (such as it is) "mother of toddler," "farmhand," or "impractical hiker"! ;)
My "good" clothes are the ones without stains or holes! |
I can so relate to this. I wear jeans and large shirts or shorts and t-shirts most of the time. I got used to wearing what I could find that fit that I didn't really worry about how it looked so much.
Plus I have a excessive perspiration problem that is nasty if I wear clothes that are tight. I have the prescription anti-perspirant which helps some but doesn't keep me completely dry. So baggy tops are the norm for me. I've tried to go into stores and tell the salespeople I can't dress myself and please help me pick out stuff that looks good on me. I pick someone is closer to my age because what looks good on an 18 year old sometimes doens't go as well on a 40 yr old person. It's funny because they will suggest things that I would never wear, tight shirts that show cleavage and my waist. I did buy a couple of tight shirts the last time I went shopping-I'm getting good with paper towels placed in stragtegic places to help with the wetness. :o I've also accosted other women in the store as we are shopping-does this look good together? Does this color match? What do you think? does this color go with my skin tone? I'm so not used to having options when I shop that I get easily overwelmed. When I first started shopping for size 12's, I actually broke out in tears and left the store because I didn't really know where to start. And I still wear jeans and baggy shirts most of the time. when i was a hairdresser people would take pictures of other people with there phones so if you have a picture phone take a picture of people you think look good and take it to the store durring down time so the employees can help you tell them you want to do like a makeover! usually they will be excited
