3:00 Tea

I have a question. I like to combat my 3:00 sweet tooth with herbal tea, chai tea to be exact, and a sweet snack. Any suggestions on a healthy snack that would go well with my tea? I am just begining Phase I on Monday and want to get all the ideas I can so I will be able to stock up when I go grocery shopping this weekend.

TIA,
Lisa

It's not sweet, but I like cucumber slices with salmon spread (watch sugar content, or make your own) with my tea, or stuffed cherry tomatoes, or raw veggies with ranch dip. I'm a black or green tea drinker, myself. Edamame go well with green tea, too. I'm not really much of a sweets person.

Sounds good!

The cucumber slices with salmon spread sound yummy. What is that last suggestion, edamame??? Those were all good suggestions, I guess I just have to give in to defeat and change it from something sweet to something healthy I guess. LOL!

Thanks again,
Lisa

One more thing...

Where do I find salmon spread?? :dizzy:

I bought some at my local grocery's deli - with the dips and such. I don't use a lot as it has real cream cheese, not lowfat, but I haven't had the time to make my own. It's not hard - I'm just really busy these days.

Edamame are green soybeans. You can buy them in the pod in the freezer section of the grocery store (at least here - but we have a large Asian population, so maybe it's different there?). You boil them, still in the pods, briefly in salted water, rinse and drain them, and pop them out of the pods and right into your mouth. They are a traditional Japanese snack - especially popular with beer, but still good with green tea.

Ty!

Thanks so much, I'll have to look for that dip, the other stuff, I'm not too sure about.LOL!

I make a salmon spread by zapping smoked salmon in my small food processor with ultra low fat cream cheese, dill and chopped onion. It works fine with canned salmon too. Add some paprika if the tinned salmon needs more colour.

Ooh! That salmon dip sounds yummy and easy, Ruth. I tried the one in the book and wasn't at all impressed. I love smoked salmon so maybe I'll use 1/2 that and 1/2 canned to save on the sodium and nitrates. Next trip to the store will include ingredients for that for sure. Yummy! Do you think dried dill would work or would fresh be better?

I think I screwed up.

I ended up getting the Philadelphia brand salmon spread. It seems to have a lot of calories in it. It's all I could find though.

Is it allowed in phase 1? I am supposed to have it today for a snack with cucumbers.

If it's not allowed, I guess, I'll have to try to make it. I've never had or used canned salmon before. This could be interesting... :^:

I love the ricotta cremes when I want sweets, recipes in the book or some in our recipe section. Some days I do vanilla, sometimes choc or espresso, so they don't taste the same. And SF jello really hits the spot, especially with some Cool Whip Free! I alternate between craving sweet and salty, so I've been there, done that!

Sorry but the Philly salmon spread is not low fat so.........
