Calorie counting
Hi Chicks
I am kinda new here so am reading lots these days. So much great advice and support! One thing iI have noticed is that some of you count calories. I thought it was not necesary on this diet? Are you getting better results with the calorie counting? I am also a great believer that in the end it matters most how many calories you get in and out. However, I find it really tedious to count them and besides here in India they hardly provide any nutritional information, so is quite difficult. So I just wanted to know if anyone is having success without counting their calories or should I also get down to it? I am getting results though even though havent weighed myself since last week. Am on day 15 and my pants that were tight are now sliding of my butt! I however have to confess to having had 3 snickers since I started the diet. Since, I have had results anyways am convincing myself that I can have 1 snickers everyday  Love |
India, first of all, eating Snickers is what got you into this situation.
:coach: Put the Snickers down and back away!!! Seriously, girl, if you eat sugar like that every day, you won't be able to cut the cravings out. That's one of the best parts of this diet, IMHO. You'll still be eating healthier (when not eating candy) but you'll miss out on the rest of this WOE. If you decide to treat yourself to candy once in a while, then do Phase 1 to get rid of the cravings, you'll be okay. But one every day? Not only are you using up precious calories with something that has almost no nutritional value (but lots of fat and sugar that turns to fat...), but you are simply giving yourself the cravings that will make you have one tomorrow. It's an endless cycle that only you can break. So, cold turkey...no Snickers!!! If you go without one for at least 3 days (could take as long as 5), you won't have the physical craving for them anymore and you'll find it much easier to walk away. In the meantime, avoid the places that sell them, keep money out of your wallet, ask friends to keep you away from candy, etc. You can do this! :jig: As to counting calories, not sure if it'll work with Indian products (they may not be listed), but you may find www.fitday.com helpful. You don't have to count calories on this WOE, but some people do like to. :) |
I personally count calories, i keep everything on fitday. it's to help with portion control, kinda. i'm trying right now to eat the portions i normally eat, wih the exception of the things that are limited on here, to see if i'm eating too much food on top of eating the wrong foods. if i discover that i'm eating way too many calories then i will cut down the portion sizes.
I have done SB before without calorie counting and did lose. I'm not sure how effective the calorie counting is this time around cause i just started. It's nt necessary however. I think too on SB you're ultimately going to eat fewer calories in the past because the cravings are gone. |
I never count calories. I will look at the calories on a recipe/food sometimes to see how high it is but I have never entered an entire days recipe into a calorie counter tool like Fit Day.
I think it can be very helpful, though, if someone has stalled or is gaining and doesn't know what the problem is. They may be eating too many or too few calories. |
that's why i started counting calories, because i know i generally don't eat enough. When i did weight watchers (unsuccessfully because I couldn't afford to go to the meetings and i hadn't found this website for support) i actually had to eat a piece of chocolate today to get into the bottom end of my points range. so this is really assurance for me that i'm eating enough. people kinda giggle when they hear that i don't eat enough food and then look at me being 120 lbs overweight. they just don't get it. i have a very hectic schedule and its only going to get worse (i'm going back to school for culinary arts in January) so I need to make sure I eat. Sometimes, especially after working 5 hours in a professional kitchen, I don't want to eat and I'm not really hungry. I can look at fit-day and say "hey, have i had enough calories today?" if i have, i don't eat. If i haven't I can 'force' myself to have something to eat, usually something will just enough cals to get my up to my daily minimum. but anyway, that's why I personally count calories.

I haven't counted at all on this diet. My weight loss is slow going though, but still losing.

I don't count...but I am having problems with eating enough for about the past week...
Not sure why? :?: |
Thanks everyone for your replies.
I think I will not worry about the calories then as long as I am still loosing. I dont think I have a problem of getting too few calories. I have to admit that sounds a bit strange to me :dizzy:. Barbara your weightloss is truely inspirational. Congrats on being so close to your goal. Amazing! Laurie, thanks for kicking my butt. I know I shouldnt have the snickers, and I had the first one after 10 days on phase 1 and I hadnt cheated at all before that! I really went cold turkey but suddenly the cravings popped up again. I guess its cause I dont really stick to the snacks. Will try to be strong! Love |
