Hi Kristin--

First off :grouphug: I can SO relate to your frustration at not being able to lose weight.

I'm not diabetic--and I don't want to go down that road. I'm so thankful I found a doctor that understands insulin resistance.

By oral meds are you referring to Glucophage or Metformin? If so, good! Keep on taking it, with your doctor's approval and ask him to include some niacin (slow release, no flush) along with it. The first time I tried the Metformin, it didn't work for me. There seems to be some sort of "magic" that occurs when I include the niacin.

And you definitely need to get some sort of exercise. Even if it's just brisk walking. March around your living room if you have to, just DO IT!

Believe me, I'm the slowest loser in the universe and the combo of the meds, the SBD and the exercise are THE combo that works for me.

Think about the reasons why you keep failing at Phase I. Is it because you're bored with the foods after a few days? Is breaking the addiction to carbs too difficult?

Try using some strategies to help you get moving forward. Change little things first and maybe it won't be so difficult. For example: If you enjoy sugar in your coffee or tea, switch to Splenda or some other non-caloric sweetner. If you can't live without bread, switch to whole grains and limit yourself to 1 slice. When you've got these things mastered, then try Phase I and you'll probably find it's not so difficult.

If you're an emotional eater, when you find yourself reaching for food to soothe yourself, reach for something else instead...like knitting or gardening or even taking a bath...any activity where eating is pretty much impossible. :)

If you find yourself getting hungry and your snacks just don't seem to do the trick, try drinking a dose of psyllium fiber (sugar free Metamucil is one) and a full glass of water. You'd be surprised how full you feel after that!!

Most importantly, keep on posting here....we'll be here to support you in good times and bad.

Take care!
