The Weekend - August 6 & 7

Good morning and another hot one.

The AC guy came early yesterday and got my air back on - just a fuse. It's not running right now and I hope it's because the house is cool rather than another fuse!

I went out to the karaoke at the Long Horn last night with some friends but couldn't hack it more than an hour because of the smoke. There were 200 people there and I swear they all smoked. Ontario's no smoking law doesn't seem to apply to small extablishments in tourist towns. My clothes went directly into the washer and I had to shower and shampoo before going to bed. I can still smell it this morning - maybe I need a nostril enema!

My darlings are still quiet but I'm going to get them up anyhow. This sleeping in is great but we need to crank up the day. We will go visit Harry this morning and I may do some furniture painting this afternoon.

What are your weekend plans? :cofdate:

Schatzi 08-06-2005 07:11 AM

Look who's back in the Hen House! Good Morning my pudgy pals!
Ruth: Darling , caught up on your journal entries... the quilt is divine! Glad Harry is settled... and yes, life is changing!
I am completely spent and must muster up some energy for a walk.. We managed to move about 7,000 lbs of crap to crap up our new house in Holly Springs. The house is lovely! I have a 12 foot Butterfly Bush outside my kitchen windows...My first day there I was greeted by my favorite-Hummingbirds, and hugical "Mothra" size butterflies! The girls were in their glory allowed to run free in the 1/3rd acre fenced in yard, and the deck is just fabulous! I was pretty much off plan though..either fast food , or my MIL home cookin meat and potatoes.. But thats okay, I really worked hard loading and unloading the trailer and carrying boxes hither and dither..When we arrived the neighbor across the way sent over a hand truck for us, and said he would send us Gumbo for dinner...Then arrived on our doorstep stating that the gumbo was so bad he was too embarrassed to send it..so he gave us a rain check.. Talk about a wam neighborly welcome...not somethin' I'm used to comming from JOISEY.
We took a day off before our return to just drive about.. There are 3 lakes close to us, camping and nature trails.. I look forward to exploring..I think I'm really gonna like NC. We left at 4 in the morn yesterday-arrived back in NJ at 12.. The movers came and did a re-estimate..one I can live with.. about 3,000 to move the rest of our "Junque". Our NJ home looks like a crack house--Back to Phase 1 for me for a coupla days! :)

Ruth, I know what you mean about the smoking. I thought the bylaw was all over Ontario until DH and I were in Smiths Falls one morning, and went into a restaurant/bar for a cold drink. There were a couple of guys sitting at the bar smoking, and DH and I were looking at each other like, "Do we call the police!?" :lol3:
I hope the visit with Harry goes well. :grouphug:

Schatzi, you're back!! We missed you, sweetie!! :grouphug:
Your new place sounds lovely, and what great neighbours!! Golly... Gumbo for dinner... next thing you know, you're going to have a SERIOUS accent, darling.

Speaking of air-conditioners, when I was with my optometrist yesterday, she told me that she and her family are going away for two weeks, and that they like to leave the air-conditioner running so the house doesn't get stuffy. :yikes: Ummm... HELLOOOO!?!? The rest of us are trying to save energy so we don't get knocked off the power grid (not to mention, how about saving the planet), and you're keeping your house cool for the spiders!?!?

It's our wedding anniversary! 17 years. :hat: We were lying in bed last night, and I said to DH, "Three more years, and it'll be 20." We looked at each other incredulously and started laughing. Geez... it seems like we were married only yesterday! How could we have been married so long!

3!girls!for!me! 08-06-2005 08:00 AM

:cheer: Happy anniversary Ellis!! :D Mine is coming up in Sept., it will be 11 years, cant believe it!!

Ruth, glad to hear your AC is working, I just turned mine off yesterday to hear that tomorrow will be back up into the 90's  !!

Schatzi, glad to hear everything went well with you moving trip :) and that you love your new house!! I dont post very often but enjoy reading them all when my 3 kids are busy doing something else (or sleeping) missed yours last week.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! :)

ellis 08-06-2005 08:26 AM

Thanks, 3!girls! :) Yes, time just flies by, doesn't it? I clearly remember heading to Burger King immediately after our wedding reception. We were so busy socializing that we barely ate anything, and we were STARVING!!

Barb0522 08-06-2005 09:30 AM

Morning, gals! We are settled in at my sister's house in South Carolina. We had a wonderful dinner last night at a Chinese restaurant. They had a low carb menu and I got a bowl of three types of seafood stir fried with veggies. Really good. Today we are meeting for lunch with one of my high school friends who is driving from North Carolina to Florida today with his two daughters. We choose a Cracker Barrel restaurant. I'm going to have to do some seaching but I've heard that there menu has some OP stuff.

I didn't have any trouble getting connected to their wireless network this morning so I will be able to keep in touch. I don't think I'll be weighing daily since the scale is in the master bath but I'm going to at least try to weight on Wednesday for my weekly weighin.

Hi Chicks:)

Nothing new to report, my life is a total bore.Eat :hun: Exercise:ebike: and than Eat :hun:again.

Ruth=Happy to hear your staying cool.We have a no smoking town, but the smokers are still at it. Yike:yikes: They're killing us along with them.Dh gave it up 20 year ago.

Ellis=:cheers:Happy 17th Wedding Anniversary  Wow!! I can believe how long I've be married more that double yours, next year is going to be #40.

Schatzie=Best Wishes:lucky: for moving to your new home. Its sound beautiful with all those bushes :flow1: :flow1: & hummibirds.I know what you mean about friendly neighbors. Living in the New York New Jersey area all my life the neighbors stick to their-selves and aren't friendly, but now that we live on Cape Cod we have all kinds of friendly:grouphug: people around.

Have a nice weekend Hugs :) BB

Kiko 08-06-2005 10:19 AM

Morning gals!

Schatzi Welcome back dah-ling!

Ellis Happy Anniversary! Hope you are planning something fun to celebrate. :)

Ruth I cannot stand smoky places, especially when you just reek of smoke the next day.

Barb Glad to hear that you and Brian are safely settled. Enjoy your trip!!

Me- Pretty beat after being back at work this week, but hanging in there! DH is off today, we have a wedding to attend tonight. It should be quite fun. My mom is watching the girls- not overnight, so we will pick them up around midnight or so. Not too much partying for me as I am still in Phase 1 (I am going to have a bit of wine thie evening) AND I have to teach Sunday School in the morning.

Kids are back in school on Monday! It is always interesting to anticipate what the kids are going to be like and how the year is going to go.....

Later gators!!

valerie910 08-06-2005 10:35 AM

Good Morning Chicas :coffee:

It's so nice outside, I can't wait to get out there! I'm a little, okay a lot sore today...I over did on exercise yesterday and it seems my body is protesting. So now I'm trying to figure out how to get my exercise in today...I'm thinking it's going to be just a long session of stretching my aching muscles...ahhhh.

My eldest DS arrives home from Peru tomorrow! It seems like a month has gone by and he's only been gone a little over a week, man I miss him. He's an aspiring photographer and I can't wait to hear all about his trip and see all the pictures he took. The reality that he's just graduated and will soon be away to college is starting to creep in...time does fly. I remember changing his diapers like it was just yesterday.

Shatzi - ohhh your new house and neighbors sound just wonderful! I can relate to the culture shock of friendly neighbors - When I moved from Seattle to a small town in Nebraska I was so paranoid about all the folks just waving at me as I drove through the neighborhood...seriously, I thought I'd be shot. Um...waving at someone as you drive down I-5 can get you shot where I'm from.

Ellis - Happy Anniversary! Do you have anything special planned for the occasion?

Everyone else - I hope you all have a great weekend!

ellis 08-06-2005 11:31 AM

Yoga, Val! Have you tried it? It's wonderful!! (didn't we talk about this before?)
Wow... your son was in Peru! What a fantastic experience!

Kiko! The kids are back in school next week!? That seems early. :?: Ours go back the first week of September.

BeachBum, 40 years married next year! :yikes: How can that be, hon? You sound much younger!

Barb, sounds like you're having a wonderful time. :)

We're going out for dinner this evening. We don't normally bother celebrating, but DH has relatives coming for the weekend from out of town (they're hoteling it, thank god), and as neither of us are anxious to see them, we've told them we're celebrating with dinner this evening. ALONE!!
And then we're going down to the river to paddle our feet. :)
Tomorrow I'll have to put up with obnoxious in-laws. A sexist/racist BIL and his family. (the one that kissed me on the back of the neck) Oh, god.

Where is everyone? Out enjoying the day? :sunny:

jenne1017 08-06-2005 11:35 AM

Just a drive by.

Hopping in the shower then off for a day of walking or doing something. I want to show off my ring ;)

Happy Weekend all!!!

Bamiegurl 08-06-2005 11:39 AM

Hey Chicks! A quick driveby. Lots goin on around here today. Looks like y'all are all busy chickies.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Bamiegurl 08-06-2005 11:42 AM

Oh yeah Happy Anniversary Ellis! Ours was Monday and usually DH and I do go eat but this year we didn't. Role reverse! lol!

valerie910 08-06-2005 12:09 PM

Ellis - UM...YOGA? Ya know...I've always thought of yoga as putting your legs behind your head and doing other contortionists things. I s'pose I'll have to look into it cuz I'm hearing lots about it lately...maybe it will help with all the tension I've been building up lately.

The trip to Peru was a graduation gift for DS. Both of my sons are pretty seasoned travelers...even my 10 year old has been just about everywhere. The grandparents love to travel and they always find a way to work my kids in. I've been to the Bahama's once...that's it...d@mmit.

operadog 08-06-2005 12:54 PM

Happy Anniversary, Ellia! :balloons:

Happy weekend to all you Beachers... as I mentioned, I'm b-a-a-a-c-k and look forward to carching up with y'all... I missed posting daily and nbeomg accountaable!

So, here I go, Day 1, Phase 1.

But, with all that good group power, I'm sure I'll be moving on down to meet my goal.

Have a great weekend on the Beach all you gorgeous babes! :D

ellis 08-06-2005 01:49 PM

Thank you, Anna! :) And welcome back!!

Bamie, a belated Happy Anniversary to you! :balloons:

Val, my daughter and I took yoga together for a couple of years. We both suffer from depression AND tight necks and shoulders from tension. ;) It really helped both of us... we're going to take it again this autumn. I never thought I'd like it, but I'll bet you'd enjoy it, too!

valerie910 08-06-2005 02:39 PM

I've spent my morning and early afternoon cooking for the week...I LOVE doing that. I made some 4 bean salad (love that stuff), a batch of quiche cups, some coleslaw, a big batch of mocha creme, and a batch of cheesecake cups. I also cut up a bunch of veggies and put them in storage containers for quick prep with soups and salads. I've been doing this cook and prep ahead thing now for the last few weeks and it really helps keep me on track during the week...especially if I'm in a hurry and need something quick.

Ellis - yep, yoga sounds like something I need to try. I've got that same tension in my neck and shoulders...seems like I've had that for years. My depression has come since I've become a stay at home mom almost 2 yrs ago - I went from working 60 hour weeks to BAM being at home...it's really been a difficult thing to adjust to...maybe I've been associating my lack of a job as a lack of self worth. Hmmmm

2BFIT1 08-06-2005 09:17 PM

Ellis~Being the sex magnet that you are, you better watch out with that BIL!!!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY :cheer: :woo:

KimberlyHeidi 08-06-2005 11:34 PM

What a long weekend so far! My son has been sick and today we had a family reunion. Went to the history museum which was fun. Now I am sick and this coming week is my sons birthday and chuck e cheese and then his huge batman party. I am so overwhelmed. Lost another lb so its 4 lbs since monday and I started seeing 260's and now im seeing 240's. I couldnt be happier. How is everyone else doing?

Mamacita 08-07-2005 06:52 AM

Good morning, Chicks~~:coffee:

Well, I'd hoped to get to go hiking yesterday, even printed out a trail map, but my plans went slightly awry. Wound up over at Big Lots (they have 100% ww bread real cheap), then I remembered a book signing I wanted to go to. That turned into an all day event. BUT I got my book, (The Fairtax Book by Neil Boortz and John Linder) got it signed by them both, got pictures and I even got quoted in the local newspaper!! :)

Since the day was shot by then, we went over and priced computers, and walking poles. Got a real deal on the poles. Went to Costo and picked up a new printer cartridge AND a new winter jacket for less than the cost of the printer cartridge at the so called "computer discount store"!!

Today, we shall attempt to get that hike in. It's a lovely area. Down by the Hooch, but not real far from us. I'll pack us something to drink and a lunch. I guess I'll take that disposable camera and take some pictures. Since I bought the silly thing I may as well use it! Of course, now that the sun is attempting to come up over the horizon, I can see that it's frassing RAINING!! Maybe we won't be hiking.

To all you Anniversary Chicks: Happy Anniversary!! :woo: :balloons:

Valerie, I'm so glad there's someone on the planet who likes 4 bean salad. Personally, the flavor reminds me of high school bio class and the smell of formaldehyde. Blech!!

Okay, off to make a pot of tea and see if I can get chapter 8 finished up.

Mamacita

ellis 08-07-2005 08:38 AM

Good morning, girls!!

Thank you, Sil. I managed to beat him off last night. ;)
DH and I had a lovely dinner together yesterday evening and got home early, so we invited the "clan" over for drinks. I tried to avoid my BIL as much as possible, but he managed to get in a few irritating comments. He picked up our bagel slicer, and indicated how it might be used as a castration device. Told DD and I about his libido issues. (I put a stop to that) And when he heard that DH and I had been to see Diana Krall perform, he said, "Well she's good, but she's not hard on the eyes, either." Uh huh. That's why I go to see a jazz musician. So I can get an "eyeful".
The best part of the evening was when they arrived... I was delighted to see that my SIL (who is a self-righteous witch) had blown up to the size of an oil rig. I know that's really nasty, but it made me feel good about myself all evening.
I did have a lovely visit with DH's sister, whom I love dearly... we spent the better part of the evening in deep conversation, so the evening wasn't a total loss. ;)

Val, planning ahead with the meals is so important... good for you! I need to start doing that again.
The lack of self-worth leaves after you've been home for about 15 years. :( I've finally stopped making excuses to other people (for the most part), and jokingly refer to DH as my "sugar daddy". ;)
Be good to yourself, Val. :grouphug:

Mamacita, aren't ink cartridges CRAZY in price!? :yikes: I can buy a printer for less than the cost of a cartridge!!
I hope the sun comes out so you can get your hike in today, hon! :sunny:

We're having DH's family over today for a bbq. It's crazy how your mind works... I've just thought of a rude comment that I'm sure my BIL will make about the pork tenderloin. Oh, God... get me through this day...

Barb0522 08-07-2005 08:47 AM

Good morning! We had a great day yesterday. My sister, her husband and my son and I met up with my high school friend and his two daughters for lunch at Cracker Barrel. The grilled fish was wonderful and I did as well as possible on the veggies. It's harder to get healthy veggies here in the South than it is in Dallas. Then we had a heavy rainstorm as we were leaving and we were discussing whether or not to go to the beach. We had just decided to go when my sis got a call from her oldest son to say he'd hydroplaned into a car on his way to work. So instead of the beach we took a drive to downtown Charleston to see his car. Luckily no one was hurt, the car he hit had no damage and his car is driveable (but not in great shape).

Anyway, since we were downtown (without our beach stuff) we decided to go the the aquarium instead. Brian loves animals and we had a great time. Then we tried out a new seafood restaurant right on the water. Wonderful food! And this is where I had decided ahead of time that I would be doing phase 3 for this trip. I had a healthy dinner - teriyaki ginger grilled grouper with steamed green beans and coleslaw but started by sharing an appetizer. We had fried green tomatoes with lump crab salad on top. Worth every calorie and not something I can get at home! Then after dinner we stopped at a special dessert place where my sister and I shared a dessert. Very special and very good. My brother in law is flying out today for work so this will probably be the last chance for all of us to eat out.

I'm not sure what we're doing today. I have been getting lots of compliments on my weight loss from both my sister and my friend from high school. My sister weighs a few pounds less than I do but my exercise has toned me to where I can wear smaller clothes. I brought my Fit Deck with me and plan to get some exercise in while I can. I already checked and Bally's doesn't have any locations in South Carolina but we are getting lots of walking in and lots of relaxing which is great.

operadog 08-07-2005 12:04 PM

Greetings All You Beach Babes!!!

we're back to hiigh humidity in NYC - praises be for the a/c! Took the dog for his early morning walk and he tried to head for hom three times! I think he sprained his hind leg either at the dog run or with all that jumping he generally does. He stands in front of his favorite armchair and can't make the jump - but I'm sure he'll be ok soon... doesn't seem to be in pain - just inconvienced.

Kimberly I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well - hope you rally round in time for your DS's birthday celebration. :balloons:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to all celebrants!!! :grouphug:

Cheers to y'all!

valerie910 08-07-2005 05:01 PM

Ellis - 15 years?? ACK! A few months ago my best friends mother asks me, "Are you a kept woman, too?" OMG...I just about went off on her! The thing is, even though I'm a stay at home mom I have a very successful internet business and make a very sizeable contribution to the household in that way. I've been so independant my whole life and am just not used to having a man take care of me...truly not normal for me. Now that I'm addressing these things I can really feel myself taking a turn for the better, but I think I'll always miss the challenge of my old job.

Mamacita - MMMM...yummy formaldehyde. The bean salad is definitely an acquired taste. It's probably a childhood memory thing for me, mom always made things like 4 bean salad, deviled eggs, coleslaw...I'm sure if I didn't grow up with it that I probably wouldn't like it ;)

Kimberly - I hope you're feeling better! Congrats on your loss, too...you're doing soooo good :D

KimberlyHeidi 08-07-2005 07:47 PM

Thanks girls. I am sitting here with vicks nose inhalers in both nostrils so I can breathe. I look like a walrus! I hate summer colds and sore throats.
Looks like everyone is doing great!

soon2Bfab 08-07-2005 11:59 PM

Hello everyone!! Wow...a lot of chatting in here this weekend...especially you Ellis! Have fun with BIL....he gives me the creeps & I've never met him!
Jen - Congrats on the engagement!
Kim - Hope you feel better soon!
Barb - Sounds like you are having a blast!
Schatzi - Missed you! Your house sounds lovely!
Ruth - glad the ac is back on!
Me - I'm tired! I drove down to Ohio Friday night....got in at 2am. Was up until 4...couldn't sleep. Then I was up at 8am, cleaning & getting ready for the fair. Grandma & I took in 109 entries of pickles, relishes, jams, and jellies! It was fun. We split an elephant ear (I know, I know...but I couldn't tell my grandma no!) I didn't get to see Kloe because it was raining & they didn't want to bring her out into it....maybe on Thursday I will see her.
My dear sister was there causing trouble as usual! Grandma has bruises on her right side...she's 77 & was cleaning her roof/gutters & the ladder wasn't open all the way & it colapsed & she fell. So my sister "volunteers" me to clean her gutters. Granted I rather do it than have her do it & fall, but I live 300 miles away...she lives 13 miles away!!! I gave her a look & she told me that she works full time...hello....I do too! ERRR! So not only do I have to clean mom's stuff, but now I'm doing gutters for grandma....my sister is an ***!
Well I'm going to bed
