SBD Cookbook

I got this the other day and it really has some yummy looking things in it. Anyone else have it?

Ruthxxx 08-03-2005 07:30 PM

Sure do. Lots of the recipes are in the Recipe Forum.

I have it and do like a lot of the recipes. The P2 recipes look really good, I'mon P2 but haven't really tried any out of the book yet. A lot require a bit too much effort in the summer. I like to cook when it's cooler, just makes me in the mood more for some reason.

SBD Recipe Book? :yikes: well girls, call me the British Heretic if you like. .but I find it complicated and expensive.

I must be a basic food kind of girl, give me the Taco Bake and Shatzi's stuffed portabellas and 3 bean salad and chocolate shake any day over the recipes in the book.

Hmm maybe the Brit version is different to yours? :dizzy:

LOL Artemis- A lot of the recipes have a lot of stuff in them but I or shall I say my husband plays around with them. I am trying to learn to cook! I get bored easily and needed more variey plus I got a good deal on ebay

KimberlyHeidi 08-03-2005 10:36 PM

Ruth I noticed that. They should make a new cookbook of SBD users ideas and recipes. Wouldnt that be a cool idea?

Gotta love Ebay!! I bought mine in ebook format off of ebay for a buck total...gotta love it. Honestly, though, I've learned more from all of you chicks than I have from the book...and I gotta tell ya, if you're not a cook to begin with those recipes can be downright frustrating, not to mention expensive. :yikes:

My mom has that book, when we visited her last year I cooked using recipes from the cookbook. I sat down and made up a menu for the week, went shopping. Mom was horrified at how much money I had spent. They are on a fixed income and tend to buy just the basics. Some of the recipes were pretty good, others tasted healthy (as my husband said-his code for don't fix this for me when we get home), many had to adjusted for our family's taste buds, they were too bland.

I agree, too many ingrendients, too many steps, too many odd ingredients (which I tend to have around my house, but not at my parent's, and trying to find them in a tiny midwest town was impossible) . I want simple, easy to prepare recipes.

I tried some recipes from the cookbook that I never though I would like and found out I really love. Some that I like are:

Creole Gumbo (phase 2)
Overnight Slaw(phase 1)
Sesame Ginger Asparagas (I skip the sesame seeds and sesame oil usually, also good with green beans)
ceviche
Five Spice Salmon (I'd almost forgotten about this one. It is wonderful!)
Chicken Capri
Five Spice Chicken (wonderful and fast in the microwave)
Ginger Chicken
"Souffle" Stuffed Chicken
Beef Kebabs with Peanut Dipping Sauce
Meatballs with Tomato and Zucchini Medley (Double the recipe and freeze half the meatballs and the second meal takes less time)
Mexican Lasagna
Sage and Rosemary pork
Garlic and Soy Grilled Pok Chops
Whole Wheat Vegetable Lasagne (my friends love this too)
Avocado Salsa (pg 288 we didn't care for the chili but loved the salsa recipe that was to be served with the chili)

Some of the recipes have a lot of ingredients but they aren't that hard (or at least the ones that I cook aren't) ;)

I agree they look hard to make and I save those for my hubby the cook lol. I am getting so sick of chicken every night! Val good idea about the e book. I have also found I like things I wouldnt have thought I would like
