Bulgur

Has anyone used bulgur before? What is the taste and consistency of it? I've seen several recipes in phase 2 using bulgur and am not quite sure what it's like.

I believe bulgur is cracked wheat berries. You can find it at health food stores or in the special section of your supermarket. It's used in tabouli, a cold grain salad..sort of like couscous but coarser. My mom used to make bulgur porridge, it's like oatmeal, and I used to love it. Don't like tabouli, though. I have a thing with mixing foods..don't like hot foods cold and vice versa, absolutely abhore fruit mixed with any sort of meat...no mango salsa with grilled chicken for me, hate honey ham..yuck!! Yes, I'm weird :D !!

Weirdo!
I make really odd food combinations that gross people out, but I won't share for that reason.
No idea about bulgur. As an amateur chef, I rarely venture into the really unknown, but I'm slowly making progress (hey, I tried ricotta cheese, and cottage cheese in the cheesecake.)

You may just have to try it to see if you like it. I'm not sure how to explain its taste or texture, sort of wheaty, ricey. Well, since it is wheat.

If you go to a store that has bulk products like Whole Foods Market or a food coop, you can get a small amount just to try it out.

It's pretty easy to cook, just add I think it's 1 cup water to 1 cup bulghur, add the bulghur to boiling water, cover it, turn the heat to low and wait until all the water is adsorbed. It makes a really good pilaf.

Have fun experimenting.
