lowering cholesterol

good afternoon ladies.

I haven't been OP the past week or so. My husband and I are beginning to loathe discussing food because it was all we talked about.

I am really concerned about how SBD affects cholesterol. My DH just went and had his screened and it is up 60 points. We think it is from the diet. Has anyone else heard this.

I haven't heard of that happening before, Jamie. That is a concern.
Do you think you could post a typical day of food for us?

I've heard of it going up on Atkins but that diet usually has lots of sat fats. This one doesn't. Cholesterol can go up for many reasons. Please post your menu and let us know what the doctor says.

My husband always ate really well. He would have an omlet in the morning, made of egg beaters, mushrooms, asparagus, a little ham and some swiss cheese. Lunch he would eat what ever our leftovers were plus extra veggies, Snack was a ham and cheese roll up or a handful of walnuts. Dinner whas always OP, and he exercised.

We haven't been on plan in about a week, and we would randomly cheat, but we would never have fried foods because he is very eccentric about that.

Does the cheese and lunch meat affect it? I am wondering if the processed foods increased his salt intake. Its really strange to us. We feel like we should be in the best health of our lives, but this came about.

Louise, he probably should talk with his doctor about this. If he has hereditary cholesterol issues, he can control it to some point with diet, but the rest simply does its thing. :( Bad cholesterol runs in my family. My four year old cousin had a choleterol level of 300+ :yikes: There is no way he could have eaten enough fried food for that to happen...

That said, yes, this diet usually helps lower cholesterol, but you need to make sure you are eating the good fats that lower cholesterol. The saturated fat in lunch meats and cheese could definitely be doing it. The walnuts are fine, but try to eat some veggies with a small amount of cheese or or a protein packed dip like hummus or bean dip rather than just cheese and meat, okay? The more veggies, the better.

thanks you guys.

I am thinking of giving up the diet. I might go back on in June, its too hard to stay OP at the end of my school year.
