Hump Day Chat - October 13

Starting us up for today. I have a cold that's settled in so need to go treat it with some coffee. (Scotch in it would be good but I'll resist!) Sarah comes this morning so I need to get myself together to work in the garden with her.

I'll pop in later so play nicely! :cofdate:

Mamacita 10-13-2004 07:29 AM

Good morning, Chickies~~ :coffee:

Ruth, sorry about the cold. I hope it wasn't me that infected you. I tried to keep my coughs and sneezes to myself. :o

My cold seems to have gone away, only to be replaced by ragweed hayfever. Nasty stuff, that. :(

Enjoying nice fall weather...with a little rain thrown in. DH is having his annual battle with the leaves. He goes out, blows and bags all the fallen leaves. Then, the moment his back is turned the trees shed a whole new batch. He swears they're out to get him.

I got myself into a snit worthy of Princess Anne herself yesterday. This ....PERSON....I'm working for has now decided that *I* need to get his reports to him by 1:00 pm. All morning, til around 1:30 pm, I'm either drawing blood or obtaining other specimens, doing all my own paperwork, and getting specimens into bags for the courier. The lab doesn't even start printing reports until after 2:00. So just how am I supposed to give him reports that I don't even have???? :bomb:

It didn't help that he called my boss, who then called me and told me. "Just do whatever you have to do to keep him happy. Otherwise, I'll have to make other arrangements." OTHER ARRANGEMENTS??? AARRRGHHH!!! :bomb:  After working for him for almost 2 years, you'd think he'd figure out that threatening me is guaranteed to be the best way to really piss me off.

Other than that, nothing new in my world.

Hope you chicks have a great day on the Beach!

Mamacita

kvixen 10-13-2004 07:30 AM

Good morning, ladies. Look at me being up early this a.m.! It never happens, but I have so much to do. They want to switch my hours at my job, so I am trying to be extra helpful so they don't.

I have been bad on the beach lately, but I was sick and my mom made me matzoh ball chicken soup. I couldn't resist. I am going to be better starting this weekend. It is hard with apple season, fresh apple cider, baked apples. But I will try. I haven't been around much, so I don't have much that I can say to everyone except congrats on the new puppies to Ruth, and have a great day for everyone else.

Also, any advice for someone who wants to learn to knit?

Bye!

kvixen 10-13-2004 07:32 AM

Mamacita, we posted at the same time. Stupid bosses always stick up for the wrong people. Can you get a co-worker to help? I know that mine are generally useless (and I am being nice, I swear!) but maybe you have someone that can help. Good luck with that!

amur17 10-13-2004 07:59 AM

Happy Hump Day!

Good morning everyone. Uh oh...everyone seems to be getting sick. Well definately take lots of vitamins. And keep drinking tons of water. But most importantly get PLENTY of rest. It's very important for your body. Sometimes it is so hard though with our busy lives.

kvixen: I hear you about the apples. My family has a big bag of fresh picked ones in our fridge. I'm just dying to sink my teeth into one. Just a few more days and that's my first Phase II celebration.

mamacita: that's awful about your boss. Sometimes I wonder if they are really even human beings. They need to understand there are somethings that they may want but are just not possible. "Make other arrangements" That's absurd! Hang in there. ;)

Well I had a very discouraging day yesterday. I weighed myself in the morning and was all happy, and I thought I did well all day. Then I went to Curves for the first time where they weigh and measure you. My weight was four lbs off from the morning (and not in the good direction :( ) and then my body mass index was POOR. It was awful. But it really put things into perspective for me. So hopefully at my next weight in next month we'll see some changes.

Well have a good one everyone! I'll check in later.

Alli

Heidi 10-13-2004 08:03 AM

Hi everybody,

Mamacita, what a ridiculous request! Any chance you can sit down with the guy and clue him in to how things actually work? Or maybe a tactful email?

Ruth, mmm, scotch in coffee. Maybe Kelly's idea of matzoh ball chicken soup would be more healing though?! Hope you feel better soon. Will you be getting one of your girls back soon?

Kelly, I'm inundated with apples too. I just made my third dutch oven full of apple sauce and I'm only halfway through the bushel. Kids and dh had apple crisp last night and I enjoyed one picked fresh from the tree. Hope you manage to get back on track.

I'm planning to take the dog for a walk along the Credit River today to see the chinook salmon that are swimming upstream. Love to see those huge fish and marvel at how they get through 6" of water at times. Other than that, the normal cleaning and laundry - nothing too stimulating! I am meeting somebody on Friday to discuss a tech writing project which could be just the experience I need to get this new career off the ground.

If I'm posting at the same time as anyone else, sorry! Hope everybody has a great, on plan day.

Later, chickies!

GoldieFun 10-13-2004 09:10 AM

Good morning ladies! How is everyone today? Glad to hear eveyone so far is OK.

I am getting a slow start today, but it should be a busy one!!! So, I am off to get my coffe as well. Hope everyone has a great day on the beach!

:) Lauren

little chick 10-13-2004 09:16 AM

Morning chicks again it is a quick post. I don't seem to have time for much of anything lately. I am trying to clean the house this morning. My two dd's I swear are little pigs. Laundry it on the go, I have all dd's things ready out and need to get them ready for competition this week end. I have to get youngest dd ready for guide camp also this week end. And dh is working all week end. I should be totally crazy by monday. Interview went well yesterday. Though it amazes me that no one seems to be in a hurry to get people hired. I know that the process can't be made in a day but these people are taking for ever. I really liked the guy yesterday at the wellness center. they also do tanning so if I get the job I have to take a test to become certified. I also get 3 tanning sessions never done that before so I think I am going to do my first one on Monday. I also got a call back from the call center and have to go pick up my shifts some day next week. This job is only til the end of xmas season so it won't be to bad. I am not sure what will happen with the wellness center I hopefully hear from them soon. Well I must go I have to fold some laundry and switch loads. Be back later hopefully.

Ellis- I thought that after giving up a few commitees that I would be less busy. HA HA. I am not sure how I am doing it without drugs.....mmmmmmmmmmm...there is a thought. Oh and the family thing is going much better. We are getting up earlier and I have been saying things to youngest dd. I am not talking to you with that tone of voice so why are you talking to me like that. It seems to be working so far.

Love ya chicks have a great day.

TXMomof3 10-13-2004 09:32 AM

Good morning :)

Ruth: So sorry to hear you have a cold. I hope you get to feeling better quickly!

Mama: I'm with Heidi on talking to your boss and letting him know that you'll get the reports to him at that time, when HE can get the lab to get them printed out earlier for you to do so. ;) I'm sorry you are not feeling well either!!

Kvixen: I hope you are feeling better and good for you for getting back on track this weekend!

Amur: I belong to Curves as well, although with my lunch hour being changed at work, making it hard for me to go (the Curves I belong to is closed from 1-3PM for lunches), and the problem with my back - I haven't been in over 2 months now I think. I really need to get back there though - I always felt so good after working out there. It was a great stress reliever to go during lunch. Ease the tension from the morning and prepare me for the afternoon! :) Keep up the good work - you are going in the right direction!

Heidi: That sounds like it would be cool to watch the salmon! I so miss being able to walk in the park. When we lived in Michigan, I would take the kids to a small park around the corner from where we lived that had a little nature trail. It was always so nice to walk there in the fall. I live in Texas now, out in the country and there really is no place to walk out here. Too many damned stray dogs and no sidewalks or paths, etc - not to mention a few busy roads where people tend to speed. Bleh - don't even get me started...we thought it would be nice to live out here, but our attitude is quickly changing. We've decided though, our next house will be on a few more acres, with plenty of space between us and the nearest neighbor. :p

Goldie: Hi there :) Hope you have a great day!

Me: Well, some good news! After calling and calling, I found out yesterday that the insurance company feels my disability claim is supported! I'm so relieved! At least I will be getting some form of reimbursement for the weeks I've been out of work. Now to just get back to work! I still cannot return as my job is confused as to what modifications they need to make to my work station, and need more clarification from my doctor. So, I know that will take a few days, no doubt. I'm shooting for one day next week to return though, so hopefully that gives enough time for my doctor to get his butt in gear and my job to make whatever changes he recommends to them.
Yesterday I finished making my mother-in-law's birthday gift and will start cleaning up the house today for her party on Saturday. I also have lots of laundry to do, a front porch to straighten up and a pain in the arse mouse to try and catch. He is driving us nutty!! Who has some great mouse catching techniques? LOL

Little Chick: Hello :) I'm folding laundry right along with you! I swear when I give my two boys their clean laundry to put away they put it under the dirty clothes in their basket. Seems like I wash the same clothes everyday.

Well, I better get going. I'm going to brew a pot of coffee to get myself in gear! Have a great day everyone :D

Barb0522 10-13-2004 09:33 AM

I think I'm starting to fight a cold or something too. Just extra drainage and a little bit of a sore throat and cough. I've had my first cup of hot tea this morning and think I'll go get a second one. Tonight might be a good night for the broccoli cheese soup. I'll have to see if I have the ingredients for chicken noodle soup. I know I have some whole wheat egg noodles to go in it.

Last night I tried the Sage and Rosemary Pork Loin from the cookbook. It was a hit with the whole family. I used fresh rosemary, thyme and parsley. Yum! I'm hoping to workout tonight. I took it easy yesterday and just did a moderate bike ride around the neighborhood since I have a sore spot on one ankle and I want it better for the Komen 5K walk this weekend. It's a bit better already.

Mamacita - I hate unreasonable bosses! And it sounds like you are really caught without any good choices.

Alli - Remember that your lowest weight of the day is first thing in the morning before you have eaten anything. I typically lose about 3 pounds overnight so don't get discouraged about the Curves weight being higher. I know how you feel about the BMI. When I first started losing weight I was almost into the morbidly obese category. Talk about depressing! Now I am solidly in the overweight category. You will get there but it will take being patient. Joining Curves is a great start.

anchor weight 10-13-2004 09:36 AM

Good Morning!

I have been really struggling with the cravings this week. I had an extra ricotta with choc yesterday to try to cut the cravings. I'm not sure if it was the wine last weekend, TOM or the sweet potatoes I made - but something has kicked off the cravings. I'm staying OP but it's making me crabby. I have a teacher here who complains everyday and it drives me crazy. She just about got it yesterday. I want to wear a tee shirt that says - be happy or don't work here! I know we can't be happy all the time but she is never, ever happy and no one wants to work with her.

Ruthxxx - Coffee w/scotch...... there are many days where I could do that. Maybe a little tiny bit of honey too. :p

Mama- You've got a bonified control freak on your hands. Usually in these situations I find that someone is pressuring the control freak so they must reach out and pressure others. You need some passive aggressive tactics to calm this monster. Good luck!

Alli - As horrible as it seems you got the right idea about putting it in perspective. When I started at Curves my Body Fat % was 49 - now I'm much lower. I would have to peek at my signature to see where I'm at this week. Everytime it gets lower I feel great! Keep up the good work! Plus every scale is going to weigh you different so just use one scale to measure your weight loss. Besides I think some of those places make their scales a little higher to motivate you more. Unless it was a slide scale?!?

kvixen - I love apples too!! I've been trying to avoid them but there are carmel apples, apple cider, applesauce all over the house. I can't wait until my mom restarts Atkins (I can't talk her into SBD) so all the sweet stuff goes away.

To everyone I missed - have a great day!

Barb0522 10-13-2004 09:42 AM

TXMomof3 - We were posting at the same time. My favorite mouse catching technique involves my cat, Allie. If you are really out in the country then it sounds like you might just need a cat! I'm lucky where I am as far as walking paths. The traffic is bad here (suburb of Dallas) but we have some nice hiking/biking trails that go for many miles.

Anchor Weight - Sorry about the cravings. I try to make sure that I get lots of sweet stuff like red peppers when I am craving sweets. My coworker just brought in a bag of red and green peppers from his garden so now I have extra. I've got a few almost ready in my garden too! It might have been the wine that set you off if it was sweet. I haven't had problems from the sweet potatoes. I use Sugar Twin Brown Sugar Substitute with them but I don't eat them too often.

Bamiegurl 10-13-2004 10:09 AM

Good Morning Chicks! A quick post. Looks like it is a pretty good morning. Sorry Mama for the boss! Is there a reason he can't run his own reports since he wants them earlier? UGH! Well I have dropped the 3 lbs. I gained durin my lil vacation. Now for the 6 I set as my goal! I'm off to try to clean my livingroom floor today. I bought some cleaner at Lowe's that is supposed to be for laminate hardwood floors. These seem to have some kind of film on them that I cannot get off. Check on y'all chicks later!

sweet tooth 10-13-2004 11:22 AM

Good morning everyone. I can't believe that it is the middle of the week already. It has been a great week, so far...we are finishing up the closing on the condo that we purchase, DH bought me a convertible this week (must be that anniversary feeling), the boss was away yesterday, I finally slept really well last night (until the alarm went off at 5:00 am, but that is another story), and I have lost another pound.

Ruth - Sorry to hear that you have a cold...take care of youself and get some rest. How are your rehearsals going?

Mama - You poor thing...it is one thing to be asked to provide something that is actually do-able, a completely unrealistice thing to be asked to do something that is beyond capability. Is there a way that you can give them a choice - such as, if you want the reports on this time frame, I will need to have some slack time in drawing blood, etc...both things cannot be done at the same time? Hopefully, there will be some reason in there. Good luck.

kvixen - Hoping that everything works out with your work hours. It is so difficult to have your life organized, then have the days upset with a change in schedule...especially when you aren't the person to choose the change. Advice for your knitting? ...don't leave your balls of yarn around a cat.

amur17 - Don't worry about the difference in weight from your morning weigh-in to the Curves weigh-in. Just note that you tend to be heavier in the afternoon (makes sense after you've eaten), so that in the future you will know. I weigh myself, probably too often, and that is common. My weight often flucuates 5 - 8 pounds in the course of a day, but by morning, I am right back down. It will work, just be patient.

Heidi - It is really interesting to see the salmon swimming upstream to spawn. We have a long way to travel to watch that - you are so lucky to have that so close. Do the salmon spawn every year? I thought that they only spawned every few years, but I could be wrong. :dizzy:

lc - Glad to hear that the interview went well. Hoping that you get the job - sounds like something that you will enjoy. Also happy to hear that things are going better with dd. Some day, she will thank you, even though it seems like a remote possibility right now. Take care.

TXMomof3 - Thank goodness you were able to resolve the insurance claim with your disability. That also helps with the ergonomics of your work station redesign as well. But, most of all, it will prevent further injury when you are able to return to work. I hate those mice. We had one in the house one year that we could not catch. The little beggar stole the food off traps and our cat couldn't catchi him, either. Sooooo, one Saturday morning, I woke up with the thing on my pillow staring me in the face.. :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: What insued was nothing short of a scene from a movie. DH (completely nude, of course) chasing the mouse around the bedroom with a stick, beating him to death. After that, he had to fix the screen in the patio doors and several holes in the wall. Wish I had pictures, but by then the kids were in hysterics with all the commotion. I am NOT recommending this action, especially before a party on Saturday. The clean-up would be devastating.

Barb0522 - Thanks so much for taking the time to post the reviews on the recipes. I am not that adventurous when it comes to trying new recipes, so really appreciate that feed back. I encourages me to try new things, for which the family is appreciative. Have a great day.

anchor - Those cravings are always difficult to manage. Drink more water than usual, and when you get a craving try drinking a bottle/glass of water as your reaction to the craving. I find that when I do that, it keeps me busy with my hands and also seems to decrease, if not eliminate the craving. It might be worth a try if they are getting bad. Good luck and keep on going. You are doing so well to manage to stay OP through that.

Bamiegirl - Congrats on the weight loss. You can get the extra 6 off, too. Don't forget to count the floor cleaning as exercise :D . Have a great day.

Me - Well, I am truly stiff and sore this morning. I started working with my fitness trainer yesterday and she worked muscles that I had forgotten that I own. However, I am hoping that everything goes well and that I can tone up some of the flab that is hanging there.

Today I was able to wear an outfit that DH bought me in China. When he brought the outfit home, I looked at the size (XXXL) and wondered what size he really though I was. When I went to try the outfit on, it wouldn't even come down over my boobs it was so tight. Anyway, I am now discovering that XXXL is actually about a size 6 here. I was finally able to get it on this morning...

Hope to get some more medical tests back today. Pray that the news will be good. I appreciate all your support.

Also, we have made most of the final arrangements on the closing on the purchase of our condo. We are supposed to take possession on Friday, but will not be in Calgary until the end of the month. We also have a renter that will be moving in on November 15. Everything has fallen into place so easily and quickly. I have needed that rather than any more stress to add to what I am presently experiencing.

Hope everyone has a great day. Stay OP, you can all do it. Take care.

buckie 10-13-2004 11:23 AM

Good morning beach girls!

Hope everyone is getting along well! I have been on phase II for about 2 weeks now. Gained a 1/2 pound last week and tonight is weigh in so I will see if I am following it properly! Been quite a day for me. My mom decides to email me at work and tell me that she and my dad are not getting along anymore and is looking into moving out! Boy that was a huge one! I am one of the youngest out of 5 children and she tells me! I was not sure how to respond and she does not want me letting my sisters know yet as she is trying to figure everything out! I am stilling here in awe!

Anyway, wishing everyone luck this week and will talk to you all later!
