Benecol margerine

Are we supposed to be allowed to have this? I thought we were but it has hydrogenated soybean oil in it.

The only 2 things I know we are allowed to have are "I can't believe it's not butter" and "SmartBalance". I never heard benecol being allowed and with hydrogenated oil in it, I'd say no.

Page 69 in the Guide allows Benecol type, regular or light.

Ruth, that's what I thought! I wonder why he'd allow that? I trashed mine and got Smart Balance instead once I read the ingredients in the Benecol.

Perhaps Benecol was made differently when the book came out? It's a good question...perhaps someone who is on the SBD site can ask?

In the meantime, I love Smart Balance...it helps your cholesterol so much and tastes fantastic! The light is just as good, and now they have flax seed oil, too!

I use Smart Balance too and I am amazed at how good it tastes actually. :D

The Benecol has less sat fat than the Smart Balance. I use both cuz the Benecol reminds me more of butter in flavor. Benecol has 8 grams of fat with 1 sat fat and Smart Balance has 9 grams of fat with 2.5 sat fat per TBSP. Both are allowed though probably because what are we gonna eat it on cuz we don't overinduldge in pasta, bread, or anything else that we would put butter spread on. ;)
