How to increase calories?

  • Hey everyone!

My sister and I went through fitday.com and put in two days worth of our eating and sure enough, we are at between 1000-1100 calories a day, which I have heard is below the minimum we should aim for.

So how do we increase calories without increasing other things (carbs/fats/sugars) and still maintain the structure of the diet? Could this be why we stalled out after our initial Phase I?

    Thanks for any advice.
  • Too few calories can stall you, so yes definitely try to increase your calories. If your snacks are fairly small and simple, you could make them slightly bigger.
  • I would try putting in your totals for the whole week and see if they start to even out.....

I have had that problem in the past.... Try variety and hopefully it will find a happy medium

    Have a great day
  • I aim for 1000-1200 calories per day but sometimes go up to 1500. Try increasing your portions of protein at meal times or adding an extra snack of cheese, nuts, fruit or yogurt. Another way is to use olive oil as a salad dressing. Olive oil is really good for you but people tend to avoid it because of the fat content. You can use fitday to see what you are lacking. I find that if my calorie intake is fairly low it is iron that I lack because I tend to eat fish, chicken, beans and dairy for protein and lots of vegies.
  • I don't have an answer but you inspired me. I am entering my food now and suspect I am in a similar situation.
