Introducing myself
Hi all,
My name is Lynn and I am so glad to have found this forum! I am in Melbourne, Australia and while the book is available here, South Beach Diet recipes are really hard to find. (The book is three times the price it is in the US - how does that work???) Anyhow, I've just started Phase 1 and the recipe section of this site is great! It's a bit of a challenge to convert all the measurements and find substitutes for some of the ingredients though  We don't have Crystal Lite here, nor any of these flavour syrups that keep getting mentioned! We don't even have Cool Whip Lite!! But am enjoying thinking about what I eat and getting inspiration from all of you so thanks! |
welcome to the beach!! make yourself right at home, there is a ton of info on this site and the support is amazing!!
|
Lynn, welcome to the Beach!
I hear ya... we don't have some of those things in Canada, either. |
Hi Lynn, welcome to the beach. :)
|
Hi Lynn
I`m in Melbourne Australia as well :dancer: Currently on Day 1 of Phase 1. I found the South beach Diet "Good fats Good Carbs Guide" in K-Mart, for just under $10. They didn`t have the 1st book, or the cook book  .... There are a lot of great recipes on here...... so I`m not rushing out to find the other books. |
online conversions
Maybe this website can help you with the conversion process.
http://www.onlineconversion.com/cooking.htm I have the same, but opposite, problem. I'm from the US but living in Germany where everything is measured in metric!!! |
It's nice to see another Antipodean on the board. The advantage of living down under is the tendency to eat more natural foods anyway. I just base my meals around the food lists in the FAQ section of this board.

Welome to the Beach.
|
Welcome to the Beach! It's great to see new people joining us.
|
Another welcome!! Happy Losing!!
|
Welcome Linky! And also to A Broad Abroad (great name!), whom I hadn't seen before either.
Hope you both enjoy this wonderful place! :D |

Hi everyone and thanks for the hearty welcome.
I've lurked at SBD forum off and on and am happy to say that now I am on day 5 of Phase 1. I'm lovin' the beach so far!! There are so many great recipes I can't wait to try. I plan on making these two tonight: Shrimp Fried "Rice" http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44845 Kyrui Su (Japanese Cucumber Salad) http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40851 I was inspired to head to the beach by a friend who has lost 65 lbs. the SB way. |
Welcome Lynn and the other newbies that signed in on this thread. :)
|
a broad abroad, how did I miss you! Welcome to the Beach!!
If you get a chance, would you mind posting your thoughts on the meals you're trying? Beneath the recipe, that is. Thank you! (it's entirely the fault of these American girls that everything here is in Imperial. They're so behind with the times. :lol3: ) |
Whaddya mean "in Imperial"? Would that be measurements? :D
-a confused yank |
 Laurie, in "Supersize Me", the guy who made the movie asked a number of people to define the word "calorie". No one knew what it was. (by the way, they were all Americans. :lol3:  )
|
Ellis that comment struck me funny. Not sure why could be that I am a tired chick on a friday afternoon.
|
:D Little Chick, you need a nap, hon. :grouphug:
|
Now, now, Jack. You're a writer. You should know better than that! Just because your editor tells you how to spell "colour", doesn't mean you have to pay heed. :lol3:
|
I only pick on you Americans because I love you. :D
|
Quote:
NEWS ALERT! Hilariously funny man enters the SBD forum! Jack! :grouphug: How are you, sweetheart? I don't think I've ever seen you in here before! :D The way Ellis spells color has nothing on the way she spells "whining"! Not only is she Canadian, she's British-Canadian! I bet she even holds out her pinky while drinking her tea... I may be totally nuts here (well, I am, but that's beside the point), but I remember hearing that someone (Thomas Jefferson?) wanted to modify the English spellings to make them more phonetic. He was completely unsuccessful except for the small changes in the spelling of words such as color. Interesting! I'll poke around online and see if I can find out who he was... P.S. You only hurt the ones you love! |
Ooh, in looking for this guy, I came across this hilarious article (I love this whole website!) with the following, "In my opinion, all we have to do to win the whole language war is to popularize some rhyme with some lines like "Cookies, elevator, french fries, truck; don't say 'petrol' or you suck."
