Clovey - waxwings are cedar waxwings, lovely slate grey birds that eat mostly fruit. They arrive in your yard in a cloud, eat all the currants, cedar berries, or, as Ruth describes, strawberries, and then depart for another yard.
They have a crest, like a small cardinals crest.
Unless you run a fruit farm, they don't stay long, so every sighting is a treasure.
Speaking of which - we had 3 kinds of woodpeckers at our sunflower feeder last night. I feel so blessed, but quiet.

Hello all

Calling from the west! Hello!

You all sound like your primed for the 4th July Weekend....except those in Canada.

My corn is doing great....knee high by the 4th of July. Went to a greenhouse yesterday and bought fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. They were soooo good. For those of you that have these in your gardens, I'm jealous.

I'm having lab work done today, just because I want to know how things have changed in the past three months. It's great working in a hospital.
Mamacita, could you come on over to Idaho and draw it for me??????????

RNMOM 07-01-2004 10:25 AM

by the way....

what is Canada Day?

SoCalBirdLady 07-01-2004 10:33 AM

Good Morning, everyone...

I have been lurking once in a while, was gone to NYC for over a week, but just wanted to tell all of you how good it is to drop by and see everyone.

Off to work and then I will be out of town for the three day weekend. Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate all of you. More later.

Ruthxxx 07-01-2004 10:43 AM

Hey! Canada Day is our 4th of July! Confederation made us a country in 1867!

beachgal 07-01-2004 10:50 AM

Morning, all! Busy trying to get ready for our vacation...we leave in a couple hours, but wanted to pop in and say hi, see how all were doing.

Congrats, Clovey on the lost weight! :cp: May it never be found again! :D My third weigh in this week(yes, Sue, many of us weigh every day...it's a battle not to do it more than that!) of 280, so I feel I can count it! 46 pounds down! Yippee!

So sorry to hear of your mom's problem, Clovey. My mom has the same. Glad she is taking care of it. It's very scary. Just make sure she keeps it clean so there are no infections.

Hope those hangovers go away, LC and Ellis!

Enjoy the Canada Day and Fourth of July celebrations, stay away from mosquitoes, keep Advil and a bottle of water around, and :crossed: your fingers for me that I can stay OP on my journey there and back to Maine! I'll be back on Monday, so play nice! :D

ellis 07-01-2004 11:04 AM

46 pounds down!?!? Holy crap, Laurie! That's GREAT!!! :hat:
That does it, Ruth! I'm getting back OP!!
Laurie, have a wonderful holiday with your DH. :grouphug:

Hi Everyone!

I've been home so little that I'm behind on reading here, behind on my own e-mail etc... but I think it's better not to be glued to the computer all day when I don't have to be. It's felt so good to be out of the house doing stuff all day long, and I don't get as hungry when I'm out busy. Although for some reason yesterday afternoon I was craving a burger or something. Passed it up. That mad cow disease is enough to make me stop eating beef that I don't know the source of. I'll stick to Neiman Ranch Beef I think. Have any of you ever tried buffalo? We got some buffalo burgers the other week and cooked them on the grill and had them without buns. Delish!

Congrats on your loss Clovey! Yesterday when I weighed myself in the afternoon I was down two pounds but they were back this morning. Gotta love that water weight!

:goodvibes :crossed: :goodvibes For your hubby Mamacita, and for you too. I'm just learning how to knit and making socks is my goal.

I'm so glad to hear that everything came out okay Kiko. :flow2: (looks like a nice warm-fuzzy to me)

Cedar Waxwings are beautiful birds. The tips of their wings look like they've been dipped in red wax. Do a google search for them and check the images return for the search, you should be able to find a picture. They're so elegant and beautiful. I've never seen one "in person" only in pictures (I don't think they visit california).

Welcome SoCalBirdLady! I'm a bird lady myself. I have four birds (2 cats and 3 dogs)...parrot behavior has been a hobby and very strong interest of mine... and I'm leasing a horse this summer. It's been 15 years since I last rode (grew up riding) and I'm having fun being saddle sore ;) Sounds like we have a little bit in common :)

Have fun on your vacation beachgal...

...sorry for not saying hi to everyone individually. Have a great OP day on the beach... I'm getting ready to go and meet with a CPA today about family and money and crap. It's amazing how unfriendly family can be when you're trying to give them something when if you weren't being generous they'd otherwise get nothing *sigh*

I'm also gonna stop and see my Dad and step-mom today. I've been roped into "hostessing" a baby-shower for my step-sister-in-law who is basically only socially cordial to me (I think she dislikes me because of my weight). My step-mom is giving the party (paying, and it's at my Dad's house) but was babbling some nonsense about it not being "proper" for her to give the party. She's invited like 40 people and is expecting like 35 to come. It's all my step-mom's friends and some of the SIL's family and junk (read: I won't know hardly any of them). I can't belive the logic my Mom uses sometimes... these are people that she would have invited to the weding but didn't because the wedding was half way across the country and inviting them would have been just asking for a gift ... and inviting them to a baby shower is what? *shakes head*

My Mom (step) has decided that she wants to use BLACK pages for a memory book that people are supposed to write advice to the new parents in... only the book she had is too small so I made up a lovely scrap book that I now can't finish becuase it's WHITE with WHITE pages and Mom is all hung up on how gel ink looks so "neat" on black paper and the SIL that this is for is all into white and ultra modern so I can't even get away with doing something antique style to use the black pages and I already spent the damn money and did the other thing. So today I have to convince my Mom that the black pages are a bad idea... else I'm stuck having paid for all this stuff.

well... enough from me... Have a GREAT DAY ON THE BEACH!!!!

Lovingly,
:foot:

OK, ellis, I'm on for Phase II and no junk or junque food. Of course, we could always just cancel her membership and spare ourselves the jealousy!

HistoryChick 07-01-2004 11:58 AM

Good Morning Ladies!

Well you guys will not believe this. This morning my dad went out in our back yard and called me to come out there. There in our yard were 2 squash and one eggplant.....all chewed up.:o...Yesterday my dad and I went out to the garden to check on things and picked a few ripe things. Well something had attacked our zucchini plants....and we were missing zucchini. It was......one of our dogs!!!! My dog Murphy our youngest yellow lab.....he's almost a year old....I can't believe he went into our garden and took our VEGGIES!:nono: I guess he'd rather have that then dog food? Once again I'm in my dad's office answering phones...it's pretty quiet. I"m going to my little brother's baseball game this evening. He made it to the all-stars! He's a great little pitcher. He's 10 and playing on the 11 yr old team!

Laurie-46lbs! That is WONDERFUL!!:cheer: I hope you have a wonderful time on vacation!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!! It sounds like we're all going to be busy bees this weekend celebrating Canada Day and the 4th of July!!!:balloons:

Ruthxxx 07-01-2004 12:04 PM

Jess, our dogs must be related! My Hershey eats green and yellow beans right off the bush in the garden. She also go herself a bad mouth infection from raspberry prickles! We have learned not to pick the lowest berries as they may have dog slobber on them. Too funny!

HistoryChick 07-01-2004 12:11 PM

Ruth, that is too funny! Who would have thought our dogs like fresh veggies!

KristasMom 07-01-2004 12:11 PM

Our yellow lab/Shepherd mix just gums them, then spits them out. I've told her that I don't mind if she licks plates, but if she takes a fruit she has to eat it.
She doesn't listen.

Sue, our other dog, Yeller, is a yellow lab/shepard mix. He thinks he's human. His only problem is he eats socks....I think I'd rather him eat the veggies and not the socks. We have to hide them...

Ruthxxx 07-01-2004 12:24 PM

Lucy eats the crotch out of underwear! Not when you are wearing them....yet!
