Question about beans

Okay, I loaned out my big book and I can't find my little one.

I am wanting to add variety to my veggies. Basically, usually the ones I eat are cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus & green beans.

What can you tell me about the other beans: northern, black, pinto, etc?

From what I gather, they are good for you to eat, but I don't know in what amounts. Do I go by the nutritional guidelines on the can? Or, can you have as much as you want?

When I eat broccoli, etc. I eat whatever fills me up. I eat raw cauliflower as a snack without measuring.

Thanks!

Look on the frequently asked questions under the phase one food list...it has all that info :D

I did look there. I just saw a list of foods - not amounts...unless I am looking in the wrong place.

Sorry ;)
I believe it is a half cup...I didnt notice that that wasnt on there.
Anyone know for sure????

sb4life 05-20-2004 02:09 PM

I know that is the recommended serving size (on the can). That doesn't seem like much to me.

You know, there is a change to the diet that you should eat 4½ c veggies each day. I have been eating that by consuming the forementioned veggies.

Are legumes different than the other veggies? Am I consuming too much broccoli, cauliflower, etc.?

(Waiting to eat my veggies until I know for sure)

BTW, John 3:16 is my favorite verse!

Mine too :D

I think the veggies are ok...unlimited I think, anyway I eat all I want and am still losing so I cant see where it would hurt. How long have you been on SBD??? This is just my 5th full day :)

I've been on SBD since Jan. I have lost 35 lbs on SBD, 125 lbs total.

What color is your hair now?

Okay, I'm not ignoring the question... I too am waiting for the answer. I don't incorporate beans because I don't know how much to have or what they may taste good with.

I am a blonde now
They have a chili recipe somewhere on here, but I am sure it is 1/2 of beans just dont know how much we are allowed a day....if anyone knows please help!!! ;)

I believe it is half a cup ladies. I go by what a serving size is on the can of beans [too much trouble to cook them from scratch -- AND it takes too long]. Usually it's 3 servings. But a 1/2 cup should be a good estimate.

I put beans everywhere I can -- in salads [my own version of a taco salad], as a side on their own...

YUM

It is a half cup for a serving nut I usually have more than one serving a day.

I just checked Good Fats, Good Carbs, and all beans are okay. 1/2 cup is a serving. It says, "We recommend liberal portions of these healthy foods" under the Bean category heading. The only things to avoid are ones made with lard (like some kinds of refried beans) or sugar (like baked beans).

I am hoping to try a greens and beans Italian dish some day this week. I love garbanzos and kidney beans in my salads. Yum!
