getting ready to hit the beach

well, I have just finished the book and I think it sounds like exactly what I need. I am having way tooo many of the problems/symptoms that DR. A talked about, and I am only 24. so I am getting ready to start this program. I feel like I should detox my house as well, and start fresh. any suggestions to get through phase 1. I am alittle worried though, because my boyfriend will not be following the plan- is it selfish to tell him to deal with his "own" food if he wants to continue to eat the way we used to, because I do the majority of the cooking. I am nervous, which is strange, possibly because I know my body needs this change for my health's sake and not in vain like my attempts have been in the past mainly to look better physically. which I know can't hurt my self-esteem right about now. guess I'm just going to take it one day at a time.

Hi! I am on day 2. I did a lot of Internet research, and copied many of the recipes posted here. I also read the book a couple of times. Decided to take the plunge for my health. I never feel hungry. It would take a lot of self-control, I suppose, to have stuff in the house that you can't eat for 2 weeks. I love kiwifruit and gave away all 21 of them yesterday. The support here looks great, too. Best of luck!

Welcome to the beach. It is a good idea to get rid of foods you can't eat and stock your cupboards with OP foods. If you are cooking for others and want to stay OP I would suggest prepare what you are eating (I go for lean meat and salad) with some starchy addition for the rest of the family/household. Make it something that you are not too fussed about then it will be easier to pass on it while you are going through carbo cravings. I have been serving up pasta and noodles cause they are quick to cook and I don't want to eat them. I make them really plain and unappetising so I am not even tempted! This is a bit mean but once you have got through the first couple of weeks you won't be craving them so you can jazz it up a bit.

Ok, let the kitchen detoxing and carb pawning begin! I think my brother will appreciate the sweets and stuff. As for the bf, he probably won't even notice except for the lack of soda and ice cream which if he's really that interested in them he can go buy a single serving for himself. No fruit though for 2 weeks, did y'all miss that? Thanks for the suggestions!

Sunseeker - It was like reading my own story!

Sunseeker -

I could have written almost the same message!! I just finished reading SB and I'm starting the diet on Monday. I'm giving myself the weekend to clean out the house and get grocery shopping done. I'm at 200 now and want to get to 150. I'm 27 yrs old and live with my fiance who (as a feminist I'm embarrassed to admit) I usually cook for!! Any chance you hate to exercise as much as I do? It's great to know there is someone like me out there! I'll be keeping an eye on your progress! :goodluck:

Welcome to the beach and good luck on holding out for the next 2 weeks from the food we so loved. I just started Monday and its been ok. Haven't really missed the fruit so much, but I have stocked up on A LOT of vegetables. I found it very easy to just cut up a bunch of veggies and oven roast them. I can eat them just like that or i'll throw them in a pan and add some egg substitute, and viola!, instant omelet. I love the SF jello and vanilla ricotta creme...together! So yum.

Have a great weekend! :)

Oddly I actually got rid of the bad carbs (regular pasta, non whole grain bread, etc) AFTER phase 1. I found I had no interest in it. You will be surprised at how easy this diet. Welcome :D
