Haggis - IMPORTANT! Please read.

Tomorrow is Robbie Burns' Birthday.
If you plan to eat haggis, forget it!
It is definitely not on The South Beach Plan!
SO DON'T ASK, OK?

Jennifer 3FC 01-24-2004 02:03 PM

Darn Ruth, why not? Is the stomach bag too fatty, or is it the hearts and livers that push it over the edge???

Ruthxxx 01-24-2004 02:12 PM

Damned if I know! Shall I run the recipe though MasterCook?
If you do eat it, just be sure to imbibe lots of single malt along with it.

ellis 01-24-2004 03:55 PM

Oh, thank God. I thought you were going to tell us they'd added it to the Phase I food list of compulsory eating.

Ruthxxx 01-24-2004 05:11 PM

Only in Scotland, my dear, and over there it is SBD limited!
Once I was at a very formal dinner with Stuart (a long story!) and they did the whole pipe in the haggis bit. I nearly choked on the blood from my bitten tongue. It was so silly and so formal. And then this guy stood up and "Addressed the Haggis". I said to S., "Thank God it's not addressed to me!" He was not amused. We broke up a few weeks later but he did look buff in his kilt.
[size]Remind me to write my autobiography sometime. You can publish it after my death! )

ellis 01-24-2004 06:42 PM

 Good story...

I wonder why they stab it. I wonder why those little bags are called Sporran. (I don't think I want to know, either)

mauvaisroux 01-24-2004 07:01 PM

 ummmm.... I am Scottish and I happen to like haggis and eat it whenever I get the opportunity. And I have gone to a Burns supper - it was fun- good dinner, good wine, followed by Scottish Dancing :) They stab the haggis to make sure it is dead ;) not sure about the sporran though

chazmom 01-24-2004 07:04 PM

Haggis? I dont think I could stomach it...I am funny about foods that I can't readily identify, or that look bloody! My husband loves Indian food...I eat the bread only! :D

Daisynyc 01-24-2004 09:27 PM

DH is a Scot and on Burns Night *always* reads the "Ode to a Haggis," which, you ought to know Ruth, is by Robbie Burns Himself!

It's not the address to the Haggis you have to worry about - it's the *reply* of the Haggis that's alarming.... :dizzy:

dentrassi 01-24-2004 09:54 PM

You beat me to it Ellis!! That was going to be my response too. I'm part Scottish, but don't even like the IDEA of haggis. (Although I do tell guests that is what I am making for dinner sometimes!!!)

I'll just stick to the single malt....

mauvaisroux 01-25-2004 10:36 PM

Happy Rabbie Burns day to all you scotch drinking - haggis eating chicks! :cb: (as close to a fling smilie as I can get)

Wha's like us? Damn few and there a deid!

Well I had no idea what Haggis was but thanks to dictionary.com I am a lil more informed than I need to be. But if you like it eat. I just should have looked it up before I ate my b-fast. Have a good day all!

ellis 01-26-2004 12:47 PM

frannymae 01-26-2004 02:44 PM

Oh Ruthie, say it isn't so! I was all set to run out to our local Mac Haggis for a spot of lunch! :p

My DH is part Scot, so hence our son's name-Mackenzie Duncan. Did I tell you guys they wore silk Robertson clan tartan cummerbunds and bow ties on our cruise? We did see one gentleman in a kilt...nice legs! I don't know that DH would have gone for that, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Thanks for the giggles, girls!

ellis 01-26-2004 02:44 PM

Please read the FAQ.

Ruthxxx 01-26-2004 02:46 PM

mauvaisroux 01-27-2004 04:10 PM

You and a few others, who shall remain nameless, have already done that - no hacking required  Just teasing :D
